She's a pro - patient, clear in her exercise instructions, encouraging (yet firm), and flexible with some of our last minute scheduling issues (Niu Valley is quite a commute from Moanalua). The facility is right behind Jack in the Box on Kalanianaole Hwy; the light at the left turning lane can try your patience. Parking during lunch hour can be a little challenging; fortunately it is very large parking lot shared by other businesses. They do a nice job with scheduling/changing your appointments, and the email reminders really do help (as does the $50 penalty if you cancel in less than 24 hours). All in all, the experience of going through this form of PT along with the physical exertion without impact to your joints is definitely worthwhile!

The location itself needs probably some tender love and care, it's not as well kept as other physical therapy locations, but the machines they use are all perfectly fine and clean.

If I'm paying for physical therapy I should have one at least observe if I'm doing the exercises correctly or need any adjustments. They cattle people in and leave them to do whatever they need to while the therapists and assistants go to their "break room" and you can hear them chatting and laughing. When he asked me where would I like to have my pt, I was expecting him to refer me to the Queen's Healthcare Facility in the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center but was taken back when he referred me to this place (located in the ground floor) of the building to the right of the Hi Kai 7-11/Boston Pizza building. My one hour long therapy was from 5-6pm 2x per week, then shortened to 1x week from early June to mid August. Martin, my therapist was very personable and knew his techniques and knew where my threshold of pain were and stopped before I screamed in pain. It came to a point in August where he told me that there was not much more he can do to relieve the pain, and said that I needed to go back to Dr. Morris. This was great in showing that their business wasn't trying to 'milk' the system for all they could, and I appreciate that ! Business hours were great to accommodate patients, as there was another person who had pt after mine ended at 6 pm. The reason for only 4 stars is that this office space is quite small, but looked larger than it was due to the numerous wall mounted mirrors. The waiting room is just a few feet to the room where pt is done, so whoever is waiting inside can hear the conversation going on, so what I usually did was just to wait outside until their session was pau. Martin is a great employee and is very valuable for this small business ! Strongly recommended !

Sani welcomed me as soon as I walked in. He asked me what I wanted to focus on and we went to work. I get like 2+ massages a month, so I sort of know what I like. Sani was great. I told him I wanted my upper back, tops of shoulders, deltoid area, and left hip/glute. While he used great pressure on my upper back, I prefer much more pointed, focused, deep tissue massages where they dig into a knot to the point where you can feel the crunchy trigger point as it releases. Sani had a smoother, sweeping technique. He would press on trigger points to get them to loosen up a bit but wouldn't keep at it. I don't know anything about massage techniques but I wonder if this is because his speciality might be sports massage? Anyway, it was more than adequate and I left feeling relaxed but my shoulders were still a bit locked up when I left (to be fair to him, my shoulders are always ridiculously tight so they require a lot of attention). Why he gets 4 stars is because of his work on my deltoid area which I had previously injured and is still healing. He focused a lot of pressure and used his fingers to help break up whatever scar tissue or fascia or whatever. I definitely had greater range of movement in my shoulder after I left. Same for my glute medius/lower left back area. It's perennially tight and painful but Sani used a bit of compression, manipulation of my legs, and stretching to help loosen up my back. This is where he excelled as a therapist. My TL;DR is if you're an athlete and/or need to get specific parts of your body worked on due to injury, Sani is your man. He can help get that range of motion you lack back to your affected area. He reminds me of the sports massage therapists that works closely with a PT or chiropractor. I would trust him to get me back to competing in whatever sport I was in 100%. In terms of the run of the mill deep tissue/therapeutic massage. I thought he was still very good but not completely aligned with my preferences of smashing a trigger point into submission no matter how much pain it requires. Perhaps that's why this place is called Active Sports Massage. haha. Anyway, well worth the trip and the money. I'll be back when I'm on that side of the island.

After a week of pills, rest and stretching I was still in pain but somewhat mobile. A friend told my wife about Mati and she called for an appointment. About 15 minutes into the massage I was already feeling relief and when I left after an hour it was almost back to normal. 24 hours and one dose of Motrin later and I am typing this from Waimanalo beach where I have been (cautiously) swimming and enjoying the day pain free, Thanks again Mati!!
