We stopped by Jacob Lake Inn on the way to Kanab after hearing about their famous cookies. This was on a Sunday in mid April and it wasn't crowded at all, with perhaps only another 5 parties or so in the store. Since our visit was during the off season, they unfortunately only had four types of cookies to choose from - apparently during the summer they have 16 different varieties! While we didn't have that amazing selection, the employee did tell us that they cookies in the tray were less than an hour from the oven! We ended up trying one of each (4 for $8.46): Chocolate Chip Cookie - This cookie has a golden brown ring around the edge and the bottom. It has a delicate crunch along the more well baked portions, but the interior remains soft and gooey. Especially the semisweet chocolate chips, which at only an hour after removal from heat, are still melty. The center of the cookie tastes under baked like raw flour with a somewhat granular and sandy texture. Chocolate Parfait - This is a tall cookie that doesn't seem to spread. It looks more like a small scone or biscuit to be honest. It's quite wan in color, so there's no particular baked crust. Instead, the entire thing is soft and tender, but it's not under baked like the chocolate chip cookie since it all tastes baked through. It's absolutely stuffed with large pieces of Belgian milk chocolate, and like the other cookie, the chocolate is still melted and gooey. Oatmeal Raisin - This cookie has the hardest bake with a darker golden brown bottom creating a great crunch. It's otherwise filled with oats and studded with plenty of sweet raisins. Snickerdoodle - This cookie is surprisingly yellow in color. It has the same chewy and tender texture throughout and tastes like a sugar cookie with cinnamon. I do have to say that all the cookies were super sweet. So sweet I had to drink an entire bottle of water afterwards. I drank more water after the cookies than a 5 miles hike the previous day. The staff were very friendly and nice. For dinner we ordered salad and literally waited an hour for them. They were okay. For breakfast the wait was a little shorter, but none of us thought it was very good. The eggs tasted off, the potato scramble was very heavy on the potato and didn't look to have any egg in it. The bread was touted as homemade but one of us got burnt bread and it was a tiny piece that sort of broke apart as you tried to eat it. One of us asked for another slice and we were charged another $3-4. We tried two of the cookies and thought they were okay. They are the only place around so it there or bring your own. read more

Jacob Lake Inn is a great place to stay when you're going to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. There are not many other places to stay in the area but there are a few that are open the same season as the National Park's North Rim season (May-Oct.) However, Jacob Lake Inn is open all year round. They have a cute store and restaurant on site as well as a gas station so there is everything you'd need. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated in a western/Grand Canyon/woodsy theme. For being out in the middle of nowhere, the hotel has all the same amenities you'd expect to see in a city. It's nice to have that in the middle of the woods feeling but without having to camp. The prices are reasonable and everyone working there is always super nice. Plus the history of the place is pretty cool too! read more

What happened to this place? We come to the area every 6 months and make it a point to have breakfast here and always leave with cookies. First time was phenomenal. We sat in the dining room and the menu had unique options. Second time was September 2025. We sat at the counter. The breakfast options were limited, but food was good. Left with cookies in hand. Today, we had the worst breakfast and service I ever paid for. The eggs over easy were not edible. There was a very strange taste to them. The hash browns were just grated potatoes (maybe frozen) and over seasoned with salt, French toast was bland, and the toast had to be repeatedly requested. When it finally arrived, it was over buttered and cold. It was not from the fresh made bread I remembered just months ago. We left for the first time without cookies. I no longer trust what comes out of the kitchen. read more

Cookies! We made a detour here given that the North Rim is still closed but we needed a quick treat and some drinks. What lovely, special people and the Snickerdoodle cookies were excellent! We wished we had bought more further in to our road trip. The road closure to the North Rim is right out their doors....we can only imagine how devastating the fire has been on the North--and to them as a long-standing business. It is worth the effort to help support a decades old staple in the Grand Canyon. read more

The place was a madhouse when we first got there, with memorial weekend travelers checking out and others checking in. parking lot was packed. we arrived about 45 minutes early for check in, but had to wait almost an hour for our room. Staff were attentive and doing their best with only one check in desk computer. Our room was one of the motel rooms. they are spartan and only had a 2 chairs, and a couple of narrow tables. Lighting was not the best inside. The beds were reasonably comfortable, and the AC/heat worked well enough. there are no coffee makers, microwave, or fridge. Ice is free to Guests. Bathrooms are small and shower was connected backwards from what the dial indicated. There is a small store with almost any thing you will need, but there are no prices on any of the food. Of the food I bought prices were 66% higher than where I am from. The nearest grocery store is in Fredonia so not much you can do about that. Everyone was helpful and pleasant, though a bit awkward. After all the holiday people left the place was a lot quieter, and the parking lot nearly empty, though the place had filled all vacancies. read more

Jacob Lake Inn was a wonderful place to stay while touring the Grand Canyon! The lodging was very cozy and cabin like. The food and bakery was delicious. All the staff was friendly and accommodating too! It's only an hour drive from North Rim. When I booked my night where, I accidentally booked the wrong night. I called and they were able to accommodate the change! The cabin we stayed at had 2 queen beds and 1 full size beds which was perfect for our family of 5. At night, there's no light pollution so I recommend going out and looking at the stars above. We grabbed breakfast here before we hiked the Grand Canyon. The breakfast was very filling and delicious! It's very diner style. Don't sleep on the Kaibab Style pancakes that have cereal and craisin mixed in. It was delicious! The pancakes were also very buttery and my favorite to eat. There's also a bakery and we grabbed cookies for our road trip. I highly recommend! There's shops within the diner area that sell Grand Canyon merch and Native American pieces. We purchased some items from there as well to bring back as souvenirs. I'd book a stay at Jacob Lake Inn when I visit the Grand Canyon again! read more

First time here. Place is a very old establishment that's been around since the 20's. Huge pines surround the whole area. Located just north of the Grand Canyon North Rim. We opted to stay in the newest available rooms in their Hotel. They have cabins and older single level Motel style rooms also. Cabins look very rustic with some that look 80-100 years old. Our room was very nice and modern. Worth the extra money. King size bed with flat screen TV with streaming channels. Bathroom was clean and tiled very nice. Only showers are available. I would stay here again based on our stay here. We had booked two nights, but after the terrible food we had at the Jacob Inn Cafe we decided to leave after one night. Hopefully place is ran better in summer. Skeleton crew in the off season is only 7. Main season crew is 70. Website doesn't mention short comings of off Season amenities. read more

We have stayed at the Inn at least 6 times. We have never had a problem with the rooms or cabin. Clean and easy to check in. The only bad part of the Inn is the restaurant. We were there a few days ago and all (8) of our meals were so gross. The only good thing about our meal was the rolls and the ice. We will never eat there again. We needed that meal because we were hiking R2R the next morning and most of us had to find snacks in our bags to eat. read more

We've stopped at Jacob Lake Inn for lunch and gifts a few times over the years as the price, quality and selection was always great; however, this time we had our 3 senior chihuahuas in tow and decided to try a 2 night stay. The Inn has pet friendly rooms available for an additional fee of $45 for motel and $35 for cabins (pets aren't permitted in the newer hotel building). We had originally booked a cabin thinking that they would offer more privacy, but looking at the amenities, we upgraded to the motel for the a/c (it's been a hot summer!). Having read quite a few mixed reviews for both the motel and the cabins, we approached the experience with zero expectations prior to arrival. Wow were we impressed! The room was bright, clean and well furnished. The walls were solid between the rooms and the water pressure gave no complaints. Due to fire restrictions, there are no coffee makers, mini fridges, etc. permitted but the hotel provides free ice. We would stay here again in a heartbeat next time we come to the north rim. read more

This review is for the cookies and the restaurant inside and not the actual inn. Stopped here before and after going down North Kaibab Trail from the North Rim. For cookies: got the pumpkin chocolate chip, gingersnap, snickerdoodle, and peanut butter chocolate chip. My god, the peanut butter chocolate chip cookie was still soft and delicious three days later in its paper bag. My favorite (and my friend's favorite) was the pumpkin chocolate chip. Never had a cookie like that before but maybe it was seasonal. I should have gotten two of those. Gingersnap was also amazing. Heard another guest say that was the best gingersnap cookie they ever had. It was probably the best I've had in recent memory. Get more cookies than you think you actually want. Don't hold back...unless you're at the North Rim often. Got the Jacob Lake Club sandwich. Obviously, it was delicious because I ate it after climbing 7.5 miles out of the canyon that morning. The fries were great - could have eaten more. Moral of the story: get the cookies, especially the pumpkin chocolate chip and gingersnap. Keep up the great work, Jacob Lake Inn! read more

We drove to the north end of the grand canyon, and on the way back stopped at the Jacob Lake Inn restaurant for some dinner. First off the prices are outrageous, I payed 16.99 for a "sandwich". I got the "Grand Bull Sandwich" it was the driest sandwich of all time. The meat was extremely overcooked, the bread was dry and falling apart, and worst of all the sandwich was dry their wasn't sauce. For $16.99 i would rather wipe my butt with it. read more

This review is for the gift shop and cookie counter. We did not stay in the cabins. They looked nice and cozy. It would seem though located where it is it would be noisy due to the large parking lot. We stopped in the gift shop for a road break. We wandered through the gift shop. Loaded with souvenir shirts nik nacks and jewelry. Lots of crafty stuff on consignment. Theres a cafe located in the middle of the shop in shape of an oval. There are stool seats all the way around. We were thinking about having a sandwich but all the stools were taken . We wondered off to the cookie counter. Opted for 2 chocolate chip and 2 snickerdoodles. Perfect road trip food. Grabbed a few other snacks and drinks. Bathrooms were small but clean and Jen G approved due to having paper towels and butt gaskets. Good stop if you're passing by they have gas too! read more

We stayed one night on our way to Arizona. The lady at check in was super friendly and helpful. The room was clean enough, but dated (which was expected). The mattress desperately needed to be changed! The worst I've ever slept on. Dinner at the lodge was decent. Burger and fries. But the young lady taking orders and serving was SUPER unfriendly and not at all worried about taking care of us. We kept having to ask her for things like a menu, napkins, silverware, water, ketchup, mustard. It was never ending. The next morning we had breakfast with a different server. We were the only ones in the restaurant. We had to find our own menu, then wait 15 minutes for her to come and take our order. We then waited 20 minutes for her to decide to grab simple pancakes and scrambled eggs. They had clearly been sitting for 15 minutes as they were cold. The pancakes were the worst tasting I've ever had. The server was worse than the one the night before! Zero customer service skills. The entire short stay was so disappointing. We cancelled our return trip. read more

Wonderful hotel, restaurant and staff. We were visiting the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and stayed at the Jacob Lake Inn. We had dinner in the restaurant and enjoyed a delightful meal. There were many deer hunters staying there who also came in for dinner. We had very nice conversations with several different hunters. The waiters and waitresses were all so polite and friendly. It's worth the trip to stay there! And don't miss the cookies in the bake shop! read more

We stayed in the hotel. The rooms are old but clean. The deck doors need to be weather striped, large gaps let cold in as well as smoke from prescribed burn. Towels are thin and rough. One hand towel had holes and tears, it should have been in a rag bag. Shampoo and condition were single use size in a room that could sleep 2-4. The cost of the rooms must be related to payroll because it is not related to amenities. read more

We stayed in this location for two nights in one of their historic cabins. Our cabin was supposed to have two queen beds and one full-size bed, instead, all three beds were smaller double beds. The bathroom and shower were built for a small child. When sitting on the toilet you had your left side on the tiled wall. To make this more clear the toilet had no clearance on the left side they cut a hole in the wall to fit the tank. The shower was extremely small as well. I suppose this is why they don't have very many images of the inside of the cabins. Considering the hotel and motel rooms were the same price as the cabin you would be better off with them. Including taxes, we paid approximately $200 a night for the two-room cabin. Working as a camp counselor for a scout program when I was in high school my shared cabin was larger and I got paid to be there. So it was a touristy visit and we don't regret it but you won't find me paying that much for a cabin at this location. read more

This place is so bipolar. Some staff are great. Some seem like they are being held against their will. The kitchen has serious issues. They are out of almost everything on the menu and the cooks are unhappy to cook what's left. I get it's the winter and it's slow, maybe print up a temporary smaller menu that people can actually order off of. read more

This inn is a gem, and the staff are great. We enjoyed the natural beauty, clean and spacious room in the hotel (as well as cabin #3 for others in our family) albeit for only one night. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner, fantastic desert, and perfect breakfast the next morning. We planned on 3 nights, but cancelled the 3rd night because the North rim of the Grand Canyon was not yet open. And then had to cancel our 2nd night because my 95-year old Mom had a bit of trouble breathing when sleeping at night (apparently from the 7,910' elevation). The staff were fast, friendly, and accommodating for both cancellations. Fortunately, I can visit again with younger family members in the future. If I'm in the area again, I look forward to the Jacob Lake Inn. read more

Mariah turned out to be our waitress after asking a guy walking by if anyone was going to serve us. watched people in the front come and go. finally got coffee and meal. asked for refill and Mariah said ok. watched a new table order drinks and meals. when they got coffee refills and i had to ask again for coffee and watched them get a whole pot. got refill with bill that i asked for. We had a great experience here. Last minute room rental after our camping gear got soaked in a quick thunderstorm. We got a nice little cabin that suited our needs perfectly. Front desk staff was very friendly. Quiet, clean, and peacefully rustic to a T. We will be back. read more

The days are long past "an old Gem". The restaurant and gift shop are really old and quaint and historical. The cabins? Holy moly! Shabby is an understatement. Rustic is an understatement. Weird floor plans, bathroom with a door to everyone's room. Super small. Toilet against the wall in the corner and a super small kinda scary shower. Beds were comfy, our cabin (15) has three beds, two queens and one double. We brought a little grill and planned on doing our own dinners. Unfortunately the Forest is in stage 2 Fire restrictions which means no open flames, charcoal, etc., As such, we had dinner at Jacobs Lake Inn, the only choice. The waiter and hostess were both super nice, couldn't have been more pleasant. Their menu is expensive with entrees ranging from 18$ to 30$. I close the NY steak which came out very well done despite ordering Medium Rare. Tasted ok- no complaints there but I expected a better steak for 28$. My daughter had the Jaeger Schnitzel which she really liked and our other companion had cheese tortellini. She also said it was good. Tough place to rate- historic, amazing service, only game in town, but just OK food. Overall, for them, it's like shooting fish in a barrel. If you want to eat, this is the place. It was very busy. I guess my recommendation would be, come here, enjoy what it has and what is has been. My first visit here was almost 50 years ago. Still a fantastic gift shop. Gas station right next door. Try the cookies- they are amazing! And, ask for a room in one of the cabins with new windows or the hotel rooms that are new. To the owners: you are making a bunch of money, bite the bullet and make the renovations the rooms desperately need. read more

Stayed one night (7/21), after a long drive from Phoenix. It is a nice inn, a bit rustic, but I did not expect a 4 star resort. The room was clean, comfortable and cozy. A few flaws were present, the floor near the bathroom could use a good look see, they moved a bit, some loose caulking in the shower... We recently stayed here for a 3 day weekend. We had a queen rustic cabin. We knew when we reserved it that it was pretty small and it definitely was. But the issues weren't with the size. The cabin had not been cleaned properly in a long while. The carpet and drapes were so dusty you could smell it. There was a strong smell of urine in the cabin. The drapes were ripped and the curtain rod fell off the window. The sockets there were so loose you couldn't keep anything plugged in. The faucet had the screen missing so water splashed everywhere. The outside chairs were broken and even though we told them the first day nothing was ever done. On the good side, the staff there was excellent and the restaurant was definitely worth visiting which we did every day. If you go, don't stay in a cabin. The lodge looked much better. read more

Great place to stay when visiting the north rim. Rustic cabins (very rustic!) but clean and comfortable, with a basketball court and playground for the kids and a wonderful restaurant and store with everything you need. The people were very friendly and our family had a great time. Would be 5 stars but our cabin was a bit drafty and had some moth friends hanging out inside. read more

This review is only of the food--didn't stay at the actual hotel. We stopped off for lunch at the counter on our way between Phoenix and Salt Lake City and were pleasantly surprised, though I admit it's hard to tell how much of it was real quality and how much of it was just gratitude for not having to eat fast food (and make no mistake, there's not much fast about this experience. I wouldn't recommend it if you're in a hurry.) It's not terribly intuitive as it's located smack-dab in the middle of a lobby and gift shop, but you just take a seat at the bar in the lobby area and a server gives you a menu and takes your order. The offerings are mainly sandwiches, burgers, and soups, and all in hearty portion sizes. They're not particularly cheap ($9+ for most entrées), so if you're budget-conscious and/or feeding a large family, again, keep driving. Still, I found my expectations exceeded. The fries are clearly cut and cooked in-house (not frozen) and I enjoyed the Bull, which is basically a burger but with lots of onions and some other mixture into the beef. It felt like a real meal after a day on the road, and for that I was definitely appreciative. The fruit pies were also worth getting. Service was great. The waiter was a young guy (maybe college-age) and he was very friendly and attentive. The Inn also sells allegedly famous cookies and sometimes has hot chocolate and ice cream available, but not in the wintertime. Gift shop has some beautiful pottery for sale. Great, family friendly lodging close to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The location is great and the accommodations are clean nice. The food here is good as well. There are plenty of options to choose from. There is a gift shop that has wonderful cookies and treats. There's even a gas station as well. Our family enjoyed our weekend stay here and we're welcomed with open arms. Please give this establishment a chance if you are in the area. Great setting amongst the trees. Jacob Lake Inn is much more than just an Inn. It is also a gas station, convenience store and bakery. When heading to the North Rim this may be your last chance to stop for gas. After nearly running out in The Painted Desert, I wasn't about to take any chances. Gas was expensive, but the remote location supports higher prices. Pumps were easy to enter and exit despite being quite crowded. After fueling we stopped in to the convenience store part of the inn and were pleasantly surprised. There were the standard convenience store items like drinks and chips. What I didn't expect was the large variety of baked goods available at the counter. We hadn't intended on getting cookies, but that impulse purchase was a good one. Those cookies were delicious, particularly the oatmeal raisin. The drive to the North Rim was just a little bit sweeter thanks to those cookies. In addition to cookies as an impulse buy, there were several stickers for sale at the counter that we picked up. Most were somehow related to the canyon and were very reasonable. Now if I could only figure out what to do with all the stickers I bought on our trip. If you're headed to The North Rim, stop here for fuel and cookies. read more

We stayed at Jacob Lake Inn in January so the service is different as it is off season. We loved this place! The main lobby/ lodge area is the central hub. The entire facility is older as it opened in the 40's. We were assigned the motel motel area which did not have tv and wireless was not available. The hotel area appeared to be more updated, however, they were having a quilting convention so there was an abundance of Pfaff sewing machines and fabric at that area. The motel area is older and can use updating, however, it was awesome. You are surrounded by woods, cabins, and at this time of year snow. It was wonderful. The staff was five star. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The temperature dropped to six degrees at the time we were there and I forgot to open the faucets a little which after we came back from dinner we discovered our pipes froze. We called the front desk and had a maintenance person there in five minutes moving us to another room. I would highly recommend staying here. Next time we plan a visit, we will try to come in the spring or summer when the North rim is open. read more

Five stars for the cookies! So many kinds from which to choose. I got a half-dozen, consisting of the "cookie in a cloud" (YUM), lemon zucchini (quite cakey, not cookie texture), peanut butter, gingersnap (really good), lemon sugar (one of my favorites), chocolate parfait (huge, thick chocolate chip-like cookie), and oatmeal raisin (lovely). One individual cookie is $1.65, a half-dozen comes to $9.25, and a dozen is $18.35. The more you buy, the more you save. ;) While I was in sugar heaven with the cookies, I thought the cookie clerks could have been friendlier. I mean, how can you not be happy around cookies? They didn't smile and perhaps it was a busy day that day (a lot of tourists and campers do pass through on their way to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon), but I still believe that customer service should come with a smile. I wasn't blown away by the Inn (mayhap "rustic charm" is lost on me?). It looked a little dark and dingy. Nevertheless, any time I go to the North Rim, I'll stop and get cookies for the road. read more
