Rocking V Cafe was the highlight of our stay in Kanab UT! We ate there 3 times! When our friends arrived we suggested they try it too. They loved it! We had to put our name on wait list, it took 40 mins. Then the next 2 times we were seated right away. Wait staff were friendly, professional and kind. First night we had rib eye steak, we shared. It was excellent! Husband had cowboy chicken, he loved it. He also had the burger for lunch but it was over cooked, dry. Our friend said the same thing, it was over cooked. They said flavor was good. What a gorgeous day in Kanab to discover Rocky V -- a place that clearly takes its outdoor seating policy more seriously than most international treaties. The beautiful Center Street patio was completely empty, with probs 10 seats just sitting there basking in the sun, not a single soul (or paw) in sight. Perfect, right? Wrong. We were bluntly informed that this pristine, deserted patio was reserved exclusively for customers with pets. Never mind the zero dogs actually present. Inside? A luxurious 20-minute wait for a small table in a crowded room. We gently noted the glaring lack of any actual pets enjoying this "exclusive" area, but rules are rules, apparently. No dog, no patio. I did consider claiming my girlfriend occasionally identifies as a furry to game the system, but I decided against it. Instead, I simply let the hostess know their brilliant policy had successfully driven away two more paying customers. Mission accomplished! read more

The service was great. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Utah has lots of rules that we don't have on the east coast and none of the staff made us feel out of place when they told us the rules. Family friendly restaurant, with low chatter. Gets pretty packed. The food was really good. Cooked to perfection, well seasoned and yummy sauces. If you are from the east coast, skip on the cocktails (this goes for any cocktail in the state of Utah). Great for a replenishing dinner after a day of hiking. read more

AMAZING! We have done a few restaurants in Kanab on our few visits and this has been the best in our opinion. We went last night for dinner. Service was fantastic. The ambiance is pretty eclectic and vibey. Food was phenomenal. Between my hubby and I, we had the trout antipasta, bison steak and the Cajun trout. All delicious and huge portions. Butterscotch cake for desert. Huge gf and vegetarian choices and my hubby being GF, was in seventh heaven. I had the canyon cosmo and it was so delicious that I ordered it twice. Hubby loved his whiskey sour. The prices are crazy reasonable and am surprised with the quality they are offering, why it's not more. This will be a place we will come back to in Kanab. read more

Definitely has a cozy atmosphere- adding to the waitlist ahead of going was a plus. Followed review and shared the ribeye- it melted in our mouths! The menu has 'amazing potatoes' (or something similar) and that basically a mashed potato with some skin in it and topped with a cheese sauce. There didn't seem to be fries available, so my teen got the mashed potatoes on the side of her burger. The burger was on a homemade bun with thick bacon strips. Another great meal. Service was efficient but not overly invested- my only complaint was the beers we ordered had a frothy head on them and weren't filled to the full pint. A good stop for family or couples. read more

The staff knew what celiac was (bless them), and the menu had multiple GF options--including desserts. That's basically the holy grail for those of us living the GF life. We ordered: The Outlaw Margarita - bold, sassy, probably rides a motorcycle Whiskey Sour - no complaints, just vibes B&B Salad with Chicken - healthy-ish but still tasty Tomatillo Lime Chicken - limey, tangy, and a little spicy (like me on a good day) Service was a bit slow, but our server read the room and apologized before we could even start making passive-aggressive eye contact. We had just come back from a morning at Bryce canyon, finding to our dismay that food choices on a Sunday are few and far between. Funky But Homey With Very Good Food..... My wife and I tried to get into Sego at 545 PM, but they were booked until 830 PM. So we headed for the Rocking V which had a 45 minute wait the night (Sunday) before. - Overall: 5 - Location: 5 - Exterior: 4 - Ambiance: 4 - Menu: 5 - Food Quality: 5 - Food Portion: 5 - Service: 5 - Price and Value: 5 - Parking: 5 - Location: Convenient. In the "downtown" area of Kanab in the midst of local stores. - Exterior: Funky. Lots of energy pulsing out the door. - Ambiance: Quirky, but homey. One big room with some outside dining. Music from the 1970s pumping into the restaurant added to a nice throwback vibe. - Menu: Interesting with several vegetarian and vegan options. - Food: No complaints. I started with the House Salad ($7) which was worth $10-12 for the size and variety of ingredients. My entree, the Grand Staircase ($21), was a tasty combination of vegetables presented (to me, at least) like a Southwest version of lasagna. Mildly spicy, filling and great. My wife had the Happy Hippie ($19)...a veggie burger with vegetables and a small house salad. She said "it's better than most vegetable burgers in California". For dessert, we each had a vegan Chocolate Mousse ($10). Excellent with no use of milk! For drinks, I had a Hops Rising IPA ($7) while my wife had a glass of Ecco Pinot Grigio ($10). Both were fine. - Service: Very friendly. Este, our server, covered several tables but always dropped by to check on us. Other servers were quick to remove empty dishes. Really solid small town café. The service was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was generously-portioned, well-prepared and tasty. My burger was juicy, well-proportioned, and quite tasty. I was a bit surprised at the price point ($15-30) for the main dishes, which would be more in line with a bigger city environment. Nevertheless, this was a very pleasant experience that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to other visitors in Kanab. The staff was particularly hospitable, providing attentive and friendly service. Dog friendly, solid place in Kanab. If you sit outside with your dog, the heaters weren't working when we went so it can be chilly. Service is friendly and food is very comforting. We got the cowboy chicken and the el verde bowl. Both are delicious! cowboy chicken is classic comfort food and I think I loved it a little more than the el verde bowl. After an eventful day in Bryce Canyon we headed south towards Page, AZ and targeted Kanab, UT as a place to spend the night. While heading that way we reviewed a place to eat for the night and chose Rocking V Cafe. Our waitress was very cheerful and helpful about their menu, drinks and the local area. She suggested among other things the tomatillo lime chicken which I had spotted on their menu before we had even arrived. I chase this for my meal and wasn't disappointed! The chick was excellently spiced and had I believe pepper Jack cheese on it. It was served over a bed of green chili rice which complimented it just fine. Additionally there was a flavorful black bean Dish and a jalapeño relish on the side. Both were excellent although I would have liked to have a little more of the relish. The rest of the party opted for a shrimp linguine dish and seemed to be pleased. The menu had plenty to shoes from with a wide price range. I thought it was excellent. The service was superb, the food came out quickly and we had no wait getting seated. The restaurant itself was decorated beautifully and was clean. This is a beautiful restaurant, the decor is lovely with a very much southwestern almost New Mexico feel to it. Vibrant colors, and beautiful art was everywhere. The food was also good, my boyfriend had the El Verde bowl, pork roast dry rubbed with garlic, cumin, and other spices, then braised in a perfect blend of citrus and spice for hours. Topped with house tomatillo sauce, queso fresco, and pico de gallo. Served with green chili rice, mango salad, and a side of jalapeño relish. I had the house salad, a mix of romaine and spinach, carrots, grape tomato, edamame and cucumber with your choice of dressing. This was quite a substantial salad for a house salad, and my entree was the Shroom burger, a Portobello mushroom cap dusted with our garlic blend seasoning, then topped with vegan chive cream cheese, pickled peppers, crispy lettuce, and house barbecue sauce on a toasted bun. Both of these were very delicious. We were both full, but we had the desert that had caught my eye earlier, the almond amaretto bread pudding. Warmed almond bread pudding, topped with house amaretto cream sauce, and a dab of whip cream. All in all, this was a very delicious meal in a delightful setting and I would definitely come back. The food was mostly tasty with some dishes better than others. The one drink we ordered could be better. Service was very friendly and accommodating. Our waitress Sharrie was kind enough to bring some cherry tomatoes for the kid not eating the salad. Food came quick and in the right order. Prices were a bit on a higher side, probably due a limited restaurants choice in Kanab. Overall, we recommend Rocking V Cafe if you are looking for a good dinner in Kanab in a nice and warm setting. Appetizers Smoked Trout Antipasto - the trout was excellent. Cheeses were good. Plate is great for sharing. Goes well with beer:) The Southwest Salad - good, Mexican style salad. Tomato Basil soup - smooth and warming as it should be. Entrees Tomatillo Lime Chicken - delicious! This restaurant's signature dish and it deserves the title. Lasagna - this was tasty, but nothing special. Noodles Alfredo, Grilled chicken breast - we got this for the child and asked for Alfredo sauce on the side just in case. Alfredo sauce had very little resemblance to actual Alfredo, so it remained on the side. It was surprising as Alfredo sauce is easy to make. I would have like a smaller steak (I know some reviewers said it was too small, but an 8 oz filet is just too much for me!) The real star of the meal was the mashed potatoes! The food is splendid. The service was horrible. We got here right at opening 11:33am and we were the first ones there. Our waitress didn't not greet for 10 minutes. Then we order hummus as a starter and wait another 20 minutes while other patrons around us get their food. We finally get our food and it's amazing of course. But the service was so bad. She checked back once then we waited for our check staring at her while she sat in the back talking. After 10 minutes of staring at her while she talked we asked the hostess to go ask our server for our check. So...the food is top notch. They need a better wait staff. Hubs & I split the Tomatillo Lime Chicken, it was just right for the both of us. Chicken was nice and tender, black beans were yummy and cilantro lime rice was just right. We had Sadie as our server and she was very pleasant. Food came out quickly and was hot. She was around enough to ask about drink refills. The restaurant has about 20 tables inside and has some outside seating. It was a little too warm to sit outside. The restaurant gives iff a "new Western" vibe. Pictures and artwork from local artists. Mostly "Western" themed. I would eat here again next time we're passing through. read more

Sometimes you just need a good salad and that's the food situation I was facing when I recently visited Rocking V Café. They came through for me with a delicious salad that included quinoa, edamame, cranberries and crisp apples. It was perfectly light and flavorful. As good as it was, I still was a little turned off by the price. It was $16 before adding the chicken, which was an additional $9. Even though it was good, it's hard to spend $25 on a salad. Aside from a pricey salad, the service was a bit slow. We were seated outside on the patio, which was lovely. But I did feel like it took awhile to get service. Maybe it was just a busy time, or maybe I was extra hungry. Overall, I'm happy to return, but I'll come with different expectations. And I'll probably order that salad again. read more

Surprising decent spot in Kenab. Came here on a Monday night on week of new years. Pretty busy. Had to wait 45-60 minutes after putting our names down. We were able to check in our hotel and do some groceries for next day's hike in the meantime. When we got texted, we came right back and was seated pretty quick. Food came pretty quick and service was decent. Food was pretty solid. My SO got the Cowboy's chicken which was chicken breast marinated in mild spices and chilies, with country sausage gravy and and mashed potatoes Potatoes and roasted corn salad. Pretty flavorful. I got the El Verde Bowl which was like carnitas with with various spice, green chili rice, mango salad, and a side of jalapeño relish. We both thought the dishes were solid, however they were a bit too salty! I usually don't complain about saltiness, but it definitely had a lot of sodium in it. Overall, would recommend. Solid dishes, the other dishes look very promising as well. Only wish they made the food less saltier. read more
