Breathtaking arrangements were flawless at my daughter's wedding. Dennis and his crew thought of everything and even added special touches. Another reviewer referred to them as high end. I disagree. Their prices are competitive but the design and quality are definitely high end. They don't do FTD cookie cutter arrangements (thank goodness). The price isn't cheap compare to supermarket products. However if one looks for quality, the price is right. I walked to the store around noon last Friday, and told a lady what kind of flower arrangement I like. She said it will be ready after 3:30pm the same day. I went back around 5:45, the store was about to close. That young lady was still there and brought out the beautiful bouquet. She wasn't hurry to leave, on contrary she suggest to use green sash ribbon to decorate the vase, and one more time watered the flowers. I immediately felt how much love she put on these flowers. I checked three other flower shops in town, their flower arrangement were not as nearly elegant as Jacob Maare's. They do offer delivery, but this time I have to deliver in person. read more

David Navarro designed all of the floral arrangements for my wedding, which included an arch, various bouquets and boutonnieres, cocktail table centerpieces, and centerpieces for the reception. At our initial meeting, I gave him a rough idea of what I was looking for and he executed on my vision even better than I could have imagined! The flowers were beautiful and everyone at the wedding couldn't stop commenting on how unique the flowers were. Not only did David transform my wedding venue, but he was also extremely easy to work with. He was quick to respond to emails, set up the wedding venue on time as promised (including delivering my bouquet to my parent's house for photos before the wedding), and even transferred the arch from the ceremony to the reception during the cocktail hour without the guests noticing. He and his team worked quickly and discreetly the day of, which amazed my Mom and many of the other wedding guests. An update on the situation described below: this week I received a call from Jacob Maarse apologizing for the multiple issues with my Mother's Day orders. The person who left the message also answered the phone when I called back and she could not have been more accommodating. She willingly offered appropriate refunds, which I appreciate, as it will make the resolution of this incident easier than it would be by wrangling with my credit card company. When she offered to deliver a bouquet to my sister-in-law at a discounted price, I hesitated for a moment, but then decided to give them another chance. The bouquet arrived promptly and is quite beautiful, according to the photo sent by my brother. I'm happy to update this review, as I've been pleased with the quality of the flowers and service I've received from Jacob Maarse in the past, which was why this incident was so disappointing. I hope their renewed efforts at customer service are maintained and I hope any orders I place with them in future are filled in as satisfying a way as those I've placed in the past. Previous comment (05/18/13): This past Mother's Day was the last time I will ever use Jacob Maarse, though it pains me to say so. They not only sent TWO bouquets to my mother (and billed me double) when I only ordered one, they charged me $60 dollars over the quoted price for my sister-in-law's bouquet and she didn't receive it! Every time I've tried to speak to someone at the shop this past week, I've been told the person I need to speak with is "busy." I've disputed both charges with my credit card company, something I never thought I'd have to do with a business that used to be know for its excellent customer service. I don't think this florist is being ran well or they are just taking people's money. Despite the high quality and beautiful floral arrangements, the customer service here is terrible. The employees are arrogant. When I tried to buy floral arrangements here for my company, the lady only tried to sell the high value ones. When I said the budget was $150, she then just said they only did the high end arrangement there and pointed to some cheap ones around $90, which look more like those from Ralphs and Vons. She then left me alone. After I picked two less expensive orchids to be combined as one pot, the lady then said I needed to pay extra $70 for design fee and that there was no guarantee it could be done in two days! She claimed she was busy, could not negotiate the price and could not talk to me further because she had plenty of customers to serve. I was shocked when I heard that. Use to be the premier flower shop in Pasadena, but that was long ago. Ordered a $150 'sympathy' arrangement for a guy at work. It showed up with 90% greenery and maybe 5 white flowers. Not acceptable. Word on the street is that if you know one of the flower arrangers and ask to have your order done by them, you are good to go. We ordered a bouquet for a departing employee today and it was nothing short of spectacular. It was organically beautiful and everyone who saw it stopped and commented how unique and stunning it was. Also, we called to see when it was going to be delivered, and were told that since we didn't pay a rush charge, it would probably be late afternoon. My colleague called the shop and asked to pay for it to be delivered earlier to coincide with a cake delivery. They agreed to deliver it ASAP AT NO extra charge. The previous time I used Jacob Maarse was 2 years ago for a memorial. I had a big budget for that and what was delivered is still being talked about as the most incredible flower arrangement anyone had ever seen. And this is LA. This time, for the employee, I had a $100 budget and was a little worried that it wouldn't be as nice. Wrong. It was spectacular. It is pricey as heck, but worth every penny. Hey remember me I am the customer!!!! How fustrating it is when you have been using the same florist for the last few years and just got off the phone with a employee named Brittany who made it very difficult to order a boutonniere for Saturday for my daughters prom date. I asked for a big white rose and if the rose they would be using is small to please add another and I wanted specific greenery around flower like I have done in the past when ordering from them..She proceeded to say that she could not guarantee what flower would be used and also if requesting certain greenery and it would be up to the designers choice. I just ordered 2 boutonnieres from Jacob Maarse the week before but had gone in to the store to place the order and requested the same thing and it did not seem like a problem at the time. but, when I went to go and pick up the flowers, one of them was perfect and the other was a small tiny tiny bud of a rose and I asked to please add another one to make it look more substancial and I would be glad to pay more...The girl that happend to help me the day I picked up flowers is the same sales girl who answered phone today Brittany(she told me she remembered me). She was very hesitant and somewhat RUDE almost as if she was doing me a favor she proceeded to remind me this is prom season and they are very busy and the weather conditions can somtimes effect the size of rose. Yes I can understand that, but the rose was a baby single rose and did not look presentable. I told her this is not acceptable. she finally went to talk to the designer and it was fixed within a few minutes. She made it seem as if I was asking her to run down Colorado.... I had to go through so much just to get one rose added a very unpleasant experience.Being busy is a great thing and be happy your business has customers, because for not the customers you would not have a job. She did not seem to enjoy her job. I ordered flowers for a birthday and they were never delivered! When I called they had the wrong city down and said they couldn't find it. They had my phone number and the recipients phone number. Why didn't they take the extra step of customer service and call and say they were having problems. Come on now, everyone has a cell phone. We had a difficult time choosing a florist for our wedding, as it was hard to know from looking at pictures who would be able to bring our vision to life. We ended up choosing to work with David because of the support he and his team would be able to provide our other creative vendors and the glowing recommendation from our wedding planner. Boy, did they deliver! David and his team worked seamlessly with our wedding planner/designer and balloon vendor. Everything looked gorgeous, and we received tons of compliments. One of the things we especially loved about working with David is how well he listened to feedback during our mock up. Even though we weren't able to articulate very well what we wanted to change, he went and pulled flowers from the back and worked on the arrangement while we were there. Jacob Maarse Florist is the best. I have used their services for both business and personal use since 1994. They always deliver amazing arrangements. Our company used them to send employees flowers and it was always a hit. I have used them on many occasions to send arrangements to friends and family and it was always done on time and in a classy manner. When someone gets a delivery from Jacob Maarse it says you "sent the best money could buy!" I have even used them to decorate my house for a holiday party and it was unbelievable. There is no florist like Jacob Maarse Flowers. It is in a league by itself. I just purchased a one-of-kind Valentine's Day arrangement for my Mother (on behalf of my Dad, who could not go himself because he is recuperating from surgery), and everyone who has seen the arrangement has been awestruck. There are other florists around who can do beautiful arrangements, but their creations pale and seem ordinary in comparison to Jacob Maarse. I picked the arrangement for my Mother up at the store on Valentine's Day and, notwithstanding all the commotion and crowd, the woman who helped me was awesome. She tastefully made some adjustments to the arrangement (ribbon choice and other small details) at my request to make the arrangement even more beautiful, with no extra charges or exasperation about my requests for changes. Then, in the garage, a man (who might have been Hank Maarse?) saw me carrying the arrangement to my car, and put down what he was doing. He then came over to my car and offered to help me get the arrangement situated in the car. The arrangement was so large that it was not an easy feat. He then worked to prop up the large arrangement on my front seat with extra cardboard pieces, and used the seatbelt to secure the arrangement, so that I could transport it safely. I had declined assistance with carrying the arrangement to the car in the store, because it was so busy and I felt I could manage on my own, but was very grateful to have the man in the garage spontaneously drop everything and help me. While I have been a long-time customer, I realize the criticisms below have been directed at the post-2010 era. Thus, it is relevant to note that this is not my only experience with Jacob Maarse in recent years. I regularly have been using them since 2010 for wristlets and boutonnieres (high school dances), Secretary's Day, get well bouquets, and for arrangements I use at my house when entertaining. I have never had anything but a gracious experience dealing with them. Seeing all of the incredibly vicious reviews seeking to damage this one-of-a-kind business is mind-boggling, all apparently based on what they watched on some tv reality show (?). I don't watch the show, but whatever happened on some tv show is not going to change my personal, repeated and actual experiences with this wonderful Pasadena institution. If the tv show purposefully made Hank Maarse look bad (or highlighted areas where he needs to improve as the new owner), CNBC and Marcus got their money's worth. Common sense teaches that CNBC and "Marcus" have not been "defrauded" but actually have made many times over the purported "$150,000" that the armchair critics have identified as the amount Marcus should be "paid" -- just by airing the Jacob Maarse segment of the show. That's why producers make so many reality shows -- they don't have to pay a roster of actors. They save on those costs by using "real" people who allow these types of shows to film them in a so-called "reality" situation. Also, the show is apparently "sponsored" by Jaguar, with lots of product placement. In short, it's entertainment, at the expense of real businesses. I sincerely hope that the bad hype being driven by the set-up of this tv reality show does not have the effect of damaging an actual business that employs many real people, pays real taxes and provides a service and product to people who want to buy it from them. In this economy, Americans should be rooting for the success of small local businesses like Jacob Maarse rather than demanding that it be "punished" because of some reality tv show's entertainment-driven portrayal. read more
