I could not be more pleased with the excellent work of Scott Riley and his crew in our recent…read moreremodel of our 30 year old home. We completely updated 3 bathrooms, including a major change in the master bath; and updated 4 bedrooms as well with new paint, carpet, and updated wiring, etc. Every surface in the upstairs was changed. We had 3 estimates for the work plan and Scott was not the highest or the lowest. But Scott is the best builder I have ever worked with, and we have built more than 5 homes over our marriage. He went over our needs and specifications, gave us a complete price with recommendations for how we could save costs if we chose to do so, and built a detailed schedule for completing the work (before carpet) in only 7 weeks. He even included costs to us if we caused any delays in his scheduling of his crew. He was here almost every day to oversee the work; was rigorous with the schedule; and completed the work on time. Scott is a very detailed person and the details have shown up in the tile in all the baths that is perfect, the paint that was perfectly applied, and all the woodwork that required careful replacement, cutting and installation. We had to make a few adjustments along the way but these were handled well and with good counsel as to the choices we needed to make. I will add that we used Joanna McGann as our designer (JDM Design Group) and she helped us make all the selections of paint, plumbing fixtures, lighting, etc. and she and Scott were a wonderful pair to help make this a successful remodel. My wife and I cannot be more pleased with how this all turned out. I highly recommend Scott Riley for any remodeling work that you need to consider and plan.

AWFUL!! They've blocked me on Facebook. we've had our house less than a year with roof leaks…read more(plural) toilet leaks, broken shower for months and mold took them 6 months to fix correctly moulding issues, caulking issues, now our AC is broke for up to 1 weeks because that was also not installed correctly. Rude service and sometimes weeks before responses. I ah s picture up on their Facebook page if they have not taken them down. House was left nasty...many other things I highly do not recommend. Anywhere else has got to be better than what we've been through.

I cannot understand how Yates Home Sales can have a five-star rating. Our experience has been less…read morethan desirable. On the good side, the house is structurally sound. In making the purchase decision, we liked the concept of a modular home because they are constructed in an enclosed environment. The marriage wall makes the house very strong, and Yates Homes uses 2 x 6 exterior walls. This house has - so far - squeak proof floors. This is the 3rd house we have built, and it is the only one about which I can make that statement. On the not so good side: 1. We demolished an old house to build this house. We had specified that the electricity to the garage, two night lights, and the pipe and electricity to a second well be reconnected. (We built this house on 18+ acres of land. There is an old well that used to serve the old house as well as another house on the family farm. Hence the two wells.) I was not astute enough to ensure those conditions made it into the contract, so Yates would not do them - the exception being they did split the cost of reestablishing the connection to the night light near the house. The message here is if you make any additions to the home, make sure they are included in the contract. 2. When the house was put on the foundation, the doors were not square. We did not discover this until we were in the house and had storm doors installed. It took was too long to get this corrected. 3. One the initial walk through in January 2021, one of the items noted was a drawer in the master bath cabinets did not match to color scheme. It was noted then that a new drawer would be ordered. Months later, the same notation was made by Yates that a new drawer would be ordered. Here it is one year later, and the issue still has not been resolved. 4. We had a second floor, unfinished attic added. The peaks at each end were not enclosed nor insulated properly. This issue was finally fixed, but it should not have happened and it took too long to get resolved. 5. One window in the attic had a piece knocked out of the frame. This item was on the initial walkthrough in January 2020. Here it is 13 months later and we are still waiting for the drawer. I escalated this item to R-Anell Homes and just heard today from Yates that the service and operations manager is going to personally order the drawer and ensure it gets to us. She has been the one person at Yates who has done what she says she's going to do. I am confident we will get the drawer if that color scheme is still available. 6. We moved into the house in January 2021. A few months later, we went to sit on the front porch and charge our phones while we relaxed a bit. We found that one of the outlet boxes did not have the outlet plug in it. This issue reflects more on R-Anell Homes and their lack of a quality final inspection, but it also was not caught in a final install inspection either. In fairness to Yates, this item was repaired quickly. 7. There were three outlets on the wall in the kitchen that were not working. Again, Yates did fix this issue on a timely basis. And again, this issue reflects on the lack of good final inspection at the factory and on install. 8. The air vent in a half bath was not connected to the HVAC ducts. This issue was also repaired on a timely basis, 9. The window frames in a few rooms began to sag, indicating they were not installed properly. Yates did repair these on a timely basis also. However, this is another issue that should not have happened and looks like a weakness in the quality process at the factory. 10. One of the bedroom windows came without a screen. (How does it get out of the factory like that?) Yates took the screen from the window with the cracked frame to put into the bedroom since a new window should come with a screen. It didn't. The repairman built a new screen on site. To end on a positive note: There is likely to be some settling in any new house. Yates did a good job in repairing those small cracks for the first three weeks. As noted above, they did respond on a timely basis to some major issues. It is just sad that the response to so many issues was untimely.

Our punch list was completely taken care of to the point of going over and above our expectations. Our house is beautiful, and we are very pleased. We have had repeated coil failures, dangerously high indoor humidity (often above 70%), and eventually had to replace the entire HVAC system this month. After the replacement, humidity levels immediately dropped into the normal range, confirming that the original system was faulty. A professional mold inspection in July 2025 revealed Condition 3 (active mold growth) inside the ductwork, with multiple toxic mold species detected. We've also dealt with ceiling water damage, the failure of two refrigerators (likely from moisture), and most concerning -- our 2-year-old son has suffered repeated respiratory infections, requiring nebulizer treatments, steroids, and emergency medical visits. In July 2025, a company rep (Dale Pearce) entered our property without permission, failed to identify himself, and claimed the system had been installed correctly -- despite Ring footage showing it was already dismantled. He offered no documentation to support his claims and didn't inform us of the visit until nearly a week later. He spent exactly 5 minutes on our property and made no attempts to contact us for permission to be there. We've reached out repeatedly since June 25, but have received only two vague responses that ignored our health concerns, the mold photos, and our request for compensation. So far, Homes by Dickerson has refused to take accountability. We've since filed formal complaints with: - The NC General Contractor Licensing Board - The NC HVAC Licensing Board - The NC Attorney General's Office - The Better Business Bureau We're also aware of other homeowners in our neighborhood reporting similar HVAC and mold issues, and are now exploring legal action. **Buyers, beware.
