As always, the food and service were impeccable. Our servers spotted two separate issues on the way to the table and corrected them before serving the butter plate and a beer glass. She had the crab cake and it was impressive and delicious. I started with mussels and selected the Rockfish special for the main. Both were excellent. I never hesitate to select items that I would not trust at most restaurants. The accompanying vegetables were on point. As always, we started with the house aperitif. She had two, I switched to beer. It was a beautiful day, only marred by an unfortunate table for two in the middle of the room and an exceptionally loud large party beside us. read more

First time at Jacques and won't be the last! What a beautiful bistro! It is the counterpart to L'Auberge. Went today with some friends to celebrate a birthday and from start to finish, everything was fabulous! Waleska was our server and she was outstanding! Friendly, and attentive without being overwhelming. The food was delicious. Two had omelets off the brunch menu, one had the crab cakes and I had the lobster bisque with a Caesar salad. My friend said the crab cake was the best she has ever had. Friends who had the omelets said they were delicious and the veggies were amazing. For dessert they brought out chocolate ice cream surrounded by meringue and whipped cream with a candle for my friend. We also shared the raspberry soufflé and the grand marnier soufflé. I have eaten here 4 or 5 times now and everything was impeccable, every time: the service, the food, the ambiance -- all of it. Really, I didn't think restaurants like this existed any more, but this one is the real deal. The food is authentic old-school French cuisine, with all that entails -- carefully-crafted sauces, seasonings that are measured and thought-through, only the best selections of meats and produce. The result is a meal you will remember. And, although they are especially known for their souffles (three flavors), really all of the desserts are amazing. The pacing of the meal is leisurely (though not slow), so you can enjoy your food in the proper French tradition (which is much healthier than the American penchant for inhaling food before running off in a huff to another commitment). A well-known highlight is the fact that they grow some of their own produce on the premises in vegetable plots you can walk over and look at. I can't say enough good things about this place, but in addition to the caliber of the food, I'll note that the last time I went there, my party accidentally left a bag with a gift at our table and as I was pulling away in my car in the parking lot, one of their staff members came running out to my car with the bag. I don't think you can find that level of attention in many places these days, and it shows in every aspect of the experience here. Top-notch, across the board, whole-heartedly recommend. read more

FANTASTIC souffles! One of the few places around that you can get it and I love that I don't need to drive all the way into DC to get it! The same that goes for everything else on the menu. My husband and I absolutely love Jacques' Brasserie--for the charm, the wonderful service, and the consistently fantastic food. It's rare to get such quality Alsatian food out here in the burbs and this place truly delivers. We never fail to order the onion soup gratinee and a few of the souffles, but a few of our other favorites include the boef bourignon. You really cannot go wrong with Jacques' Brasserie and I look forward to trying the upstairs restaurant for a special occasion. read more

Jacques' is a hidden gem, upscale traditional French restaurant in a lovely neighborhood setting. We had reservations for lunch & came straight after a long flight. Note the bistro section for lunch is more casual, but the main restaurant is upscale like a traditional French restaurant. Our meal was impeccable from the food to the service... the crab cakes, sole, trout, onion soup, If you like soufflé, it's perfect! Upscale quite pricey even for lunch, but it's a treat for the beautiful park like ambiance setting, if weather permits to sit outside. This is a great little date spot. It was my birthday so the gf treated me to someplace special. It was a Friday afternoon but things were pretty busy. Their specials sounded great so we both went with those, paired with a high acid Sancerre (Sauvignon blanc). The fish was just enough capers to make me happy without overdoing it. I've been to both L'Auberge Chez Francois (upstairs) and here, and it's hard to decide which I like better. The menu selection is more limited here, but then again you're not paying the same price so it's a reasonable tradeoff. In terms of being socially distanced, I think they did an excellent job. read more

We went here for a birthday brunch. It was such a lovely experience. I was a little worried about bug bites eating outside as an older review mentioned that, but I walked away from the meal unscathed! It was 80+ degrees, but they made a nice setup with a tent and fans to keep people feeling cool and comfortable. Mushroom crepe: 10/5. This is the best mushroom-centered dish I've ever eaten. So savory, umami, the minced mushroom tasted like a super flavorful ground meat, the sides were so fresh, the crepe so delicate. Complimentary bread, butter, ricotta: 5/5. I loved the garlic bread. Some of the best ricotta I've had. My partner loved the butter. Halibut special of the day: 5/5. The sauce was incredible! Texture on outside was just crispy enough, inside tender and juicy. Crab cake: 5/5, similar impressions but different flavor profile compared to the halibut -- though we thought the Halibut sauce trumped it over the crab cake. Side salad: 5/5. Fresh, light, different (a few pea shoots on top?), not inundated with filler croutons. French fries: 5/5. Shoestring, fried to perfection with a delicious oil. Blueberry tart: 3/5. Surprisingly bland. But the ice cream and whipped cream were really good. We were also given a complimentary birthday meringue (?), which was a sweet touch! We also ordered a dark chocolate tart (not pictured), which I actually liked more than the blueberry even though I don't normally like dark chocolate. It was especially good with the vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. 5/5 from my partner, 4.5/5 from me. Service: 5/5. Punctual, courteous, neat, everything so great. Our cocktails were incredible (not pictured), 5/5. We went here 9 years ago to have L'Auberge Chez Francois, which was an amazing experience... but more expensive. I would definitely recommend both that and the Brasserie, though probably more frequently patronize the Brasserie for what I think is an equally satisfying experience at a lower price. Looking forward to coming back here more regularly. After eating, you can stroll around the grounds to lounge in a lawn chair or look at their garden of fresh herbs and vegetables. Very good food can be found here. The caesar salad is a winner; leans a bit toward a salade nicoise, but the lightly fried egg on top and dressing with just the right touch of anchovies and lovely parmesan cheese keeps it in the caesar world. The chefs are adept at fish preparation. The catch of the day is well executed as is the traditional bouillabaisse. The desserts are reliable--fresh blueberry tart and kougelhopf are both yummy. As another yelper has pointed out, this is really a place to get L'Auberge Chez Francois's dishes a la carte, plus other items. Appreciate both the inside and outside seating options--two very different spaces in the basement of the complex, if you will. The blood red interior of the smaller indoor dining room is tres francais while the outdoor service area is diffuse, relaxing and causal. The thing I like about Jacques' Brasserie is that I do not feel the need to be as dressed up as I would be for the expansive, formal dining room operation of L'Auberge Chez Francois, situated above, on the ground floor. Jacques is pricey but French cuisine from the Alsace region is not commonplace. I continue to think that all of the restaurants/bars housed on the grounds here are some of the best French spots in the DMV; been a customer for over 2 decades. read more

TLDR: 10/10, totally recommend, will be back! Be aware that the entrance is in the back of the building, not the front. Went there to celebrate a special occasion and LOVED everything! We ordered a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Brut champagne and it went perfectly with our entire dinner (semi-dry, bright, notes of apple, citrus, & brioche). For food we ordered escargot de Bourgogne, sautéed shrimp & scallops Provençal, the Brasserie burger w/ foie gras, and 2 soufflés (grand marnier & chocolate). A lot of places tend to overcook seafood thus making it rubbery & shriveled, but they cooked everything perfectly (plump, meaty texture). The burger was HUGE, definitely worth the price. The only thing I would suggest is not adding on the foie gras, it was a pretty large amount and was VERY rich (if you love that then go for it otherwise). I personally didn't like the chocolate soufflé (partner ordered it & loved it), but the grand marnier soufflé was amazing! Last but not least I want to note the amazing service & hospitality we received. Both the staff and the patrons were all wonderful, it's a very happy ambience which just made our dinner even better. We've eaten here several times in the last year or so, and have always walked away feeling like we not only had a terrific meal, but a terrific experience. The staff are incredibly attentive and the food is delicious. The best part about dining there is that you can 'dress it up' or keep it casual, meaning that their selections can work for a midweek meal, or something more special. Our last time dining, two weeks' ago, was equally as good. Sat at the bar, had the Cherry Blossom cocktail (which is a must have if you like gin). Had the trout, with a truly delicious bottle of white Chateauneuf du Pape, recommended by the sommelier. It made for a special night. read more

Took dear old mom here for her 75th birthday and couldn't have been more pleased with a delectable meal, gorgeous setting and terrific service. I was worried it would be a bit fusty. And it sort of is, but in the most magical and delightful way imaginable! The host and waiters seemed genuinely happy to share our experience and were so lovely about my mother's birthday. She and I joked it would be worth coming back for the bread and the ice cream alone - both sooo good-- but everything we ordered was massively better than any French meal I've eaten in the district (oui, looking at you, Le Dip!) Crab cakes, beef tenderloin and desserts were our jam and highly recommended but I bet everything is good, basically, you're enjoying the benefits of years and years of experience and technique! read more

We went out with some friends for outdoor dinner Saturday night. The restaurant has a generator thankfully because they'd lost power the previous night and it was still not returned 24 hours later! The generator is super loud and the servers wear masks so it was next to impossible to hear them, and I'm sure hard for them to hear us. Two drink errors were made and I think it was because of the noise. Entrees were all amazing, and the cocktails were yummy even if they weren't the drinks as we ordered them. Soufflés were a little disappointing! Our raspberry one was quite eggy and not smooth and light, and our hazelnut one was just okay in flavor. The biggest issue is the BUGS. There is still a global pandemic - we are all vaccinated but we all have small children too young for the vaccine so eating indoors is a no go. We assumed a restaurant of this caliber would have SOME kind of mosquito control - spraying the grounds, large fans, torches or citronella SOMEwhere? But sadly they did not, and we got eaten alive by mosquitos. At current count I have over 200 individual bites on my legs, and I was wearing a floor length dress. If you want to go and sit outside at the brasserie, douse yourself in DEET beforehand. read more

And then had the crab cakes benedict from the brunch menu, the poached eggs were perfect. Of course had to try the souffle .. we ordered hazlenut and raspberry, both were delicious. Went there for my birthday August 19. My mother being disabled we entered through their L Auberge front door entrance . They told us quiet sternly that we should go to the back of the restaurant and enter from there . However one of the staff took my mom and let her enter through the front door and into their dark basement . Ordered mussels and warm Roquefort cheese . Delicious . The mussels were large . For lunch I ordered the soft shell crabs stuffed . Portions were large but pricey $40 with bacon served on top . Very soft crab and stuffing with crab meat melts in your mouth . My husband ordered salmon grilled to perfection . Crunchy on top and moist inside . They don't have good sides with their dishes . My daughter got the seafood pasta with shrimp and scallops. It was ok nothing to die for . Bit on the dry side My other daughter ordered eggs Benedict and salmon was not happy with her dish . Eggs were hard . My son in law ordered a stuffed omelette which was ok . Not too great . They have a good wine selection . The dessert were too good . Had a great experience. For the place decoration needs improvement. Very dark and dated . Not much of a price difference between L Auberge and this one . I just moved into the area and was craving a French brunch. I have to admit, I was disappointed. I mean, the food was good, and the service was EXCELLENT, but the food wasn't on par with the French cuisine I've had all over the world. I had the mushroom creme and escargot. The seasoning for the escargot was perfect, and it was served properly, but overcooked. The crepe was good, but it was missing the Je ne suis quoi in the richness and flavor. It was a bit "off" I am unlikely to come back, but I was glad of the opportunity to try and support the business during these hard times. The staff were amazing and awesome. Exceptional French food hidden away on a wooded lot amid the mansions of McLean. Building looks like something you'd see in a small mountain town in France. Clientele were a well to-do, dressed-up, older crowd. Staff take service very seriously and were impeccably attired in uniforms, and a manager was floating around making sure everything was going smoothly (e.g., noticed when the heat lamps in the outdoor tent went off and turned them back on before I could mention this). Outdoor dining area includes a clear plastic tent with heating lamps that gets some ventilation from outdoor breezes, and a fully exposed patio dining area. Portion sizes were always perfect, whether it was the fresh hot bread they bring out before the meal, the meal itself, or the complimentary dessert they bring out if you tell them you are celebrating a special occasion of any type (e.g., a family member visiting from out of town). The beef bourgonion (sp?) was memorable and my diningmate said the halibut was the best she's ever had. Pricey but a fun little adventure if you're looking for something different. Though the food here will not compare to the dinner I had at L'Auberge Chez Francois, this romantic French restaurant delivers an affordable and delicious French menu. Jacques Brassiere is located on the lower level of L'Auberge Chez Francois, and they have their own separate entrance. The decor is a mixture between Moulin Rouge and countryside France. My husband and I might add this place to our rotation for dinner date nights. I tried my hubby's Thursday special burger and it was a hand cut filet mignon topped with cheese, two thick cuts of bacon, and a huge piece of fois gras! The burger was so juicy and the fois gras was melt in my mouth good. It was a huge portion for $32. It was totally not what I envisioned when I think of petite French plates. I ordered the bouillabaisse with salmon, shrimp, mussels, scallops, and lobster. The seafood was tender and the tomato based broth was flavorful. They kindly brought more garlic bread to accompany the delicious broth. My only suggestions would be for a small bowl to hold the mussel shells and check the fish for bones as one got caught in my mouth. If it wasn't for everything else, bones in the fish isn't acceptable. We had the hazelnut soufflé and baked Alaskan for dessert. I've had their soufflés before at L'Auberge Chez Francois and it's as soft, sweet, and decadent as I remembered. Baked Alaskan wasn't very good. But I appreciate the four different scoops of ice cream (hazelnut, vanilla, green tea, raspberry sherbet). I also appreciated the three different kind of breads (plain, multi-grain, garlic) for our pre-meal. I appreciate the warm and superb service! What takes the dining experience to a whole new level is the top team at Jacques': Danny, Saundra, Jefferson, and Pam. This is probably one of my favorite places to come for happy hour. The food is delicious! Their oysters are phenomenal and the only place I like them cooked. The lobster bisque is full of flavor and has a nice chunk of lobster meat placed in the center. One a recent trip, I tried the mushroom tarte flambee on my last visit and I will definitely be getting it again. I used to consistently order the Virginia Vesper, however on my last trip, the bartender used rail liquor which greatly impacted the smoothness and overall taste of the drink, as well as leaving me with a headache. Fortunately, the wines on the happy hour menu are quite tasty. Strangely, my mom's Manhattan (also on the happy hour menu) was made with a top shelf bourbon and was much better than my Vesper. This restaurant shares an address and a kitchen with L'Auberge Chez Francois. The key is it offers a la carte ordering of the dishes served in the upstairs dining room. The tables are in a cellar and a little less spaced cramped than the upstairs space - but certainly the norm for good DC area restaurants. You don't get the amuse bouches, salad, chocolates and coffee included - but the tab will be much less and the dishes are what you'd get eating the full menu upstairs. I had the bouillabaisse as a starter - nice way to try a classic dish My main was the beef bourguignon with spatzle - a very hearty and satisfying dish on a cold winter night. The menu is traditional and reflects the same excellent Alsatian countryside choices as upstairs, just in a more casual fashion. Delicious. We had Sea-bass & peppercorn, and my favorite, duck confit. Due to traffic, I was late for the reservation and neglected to call and advise. The staff instead beat me to it and kindly phoned me to inquire how I was doing and to say "drive carefully in this rain" We were in fact last in at nine pm. No rush and no difference as if we had been first in for the evening. I enjoy the service from these professionals who are mature, attentive, and transparent. Perfect Waiters.
