This was my third time eating lunch here in the past year and a half, and their prices have skyrocketed. Taking into consideration the price of food, I expect some increases. Paying $17 (Inc $3 tip) for a tiny bowl of French onion soup is over the top. The cheese was shredded cheese that never covered the top of the bowl. There were way too many onions that were not caramelized and barely any broth. My friend's Caesar salad was drenched in dressing that was barely edible. Leaving the restaurant we saw a sign at Cafe Anne's ( which we haven't tried) posted onion soup for $9. Definitely will try that place over the outrageous prices at Cafe Montmarte. read more

Truly a hidden gem! I was a little hesitant about going to a French restaurant that also had Vietnamese food but cannot deny how great the combo was. I was so conflicted picking between the two menus because it all looked so good. Service was fantastic and the servers were wearing their masks while serving patrons. The tables however were a little closer together. Either way, I got the fried tofu which was ABSOLUTELY delicious! My brother and I scarfed that down very quickly! Our entrees were delicious as well! I got the quiche and my brother the salmon. The salmon was buttery and decadent. The pastry crust for my quiche also had so much flavor so you can only imagine how yummy the actual quiche was. Who would have thought there'd be good French food in Reston? I couldn't decide between feeling super French and getting the escargot or being a basic American and getting the American-friendly french onion soup, so I ordered both. I'm so glad I ordered both because they were both delicious! If you've never tried escargot, the texture is similar to a mussel or clam. Kinda chewy (and unappealing to some people). But the real star is the garlic butter sauce that the snails are bathed in. It tastes soooo good and I love dunking bread in the garlic sauce, then eating it with a piece of escargot! The French onion soup was classic and tasted great! The cheese was bubbly and the broth was flavorful, without being overwhelmingly salty. I'd definitely order it again! My friend got the crab quiche and she seemed to really enjoy it! It was a good serving size too! My only minor complaint is that the outdoor tables could be a bit further apart. I don't think they were all 6 feet apart, but at least I sat outside. The servers all wore masks as well, so I felt safe overall! Walked in to order two sides of French fries to go, and asked not to season on top with pepper or salt. The host waved me off, and after I just checked to make sure the "frites" won't be salty, he said "we don't put salt" and walked off. Got home and the fries are very salty to the taste. So, poor customer service and also dishonest. Hard as it is to find independent establishments in NOVA, I will not be back here for a full meal. read more

Albeit I do not have much to judge on except the cappuccinos were so fabulous I had to order 3 and my friend ordered 2 yesterday. But I will now never go to the coffee shop at Lake Anne to get coffee, I will come here for PERFECT cappuccinos. But the one thing that applies to all their customers is how personable they are with customers. I saw them come by the table just to say hello, many different staff stopped by. And I saw them checking with all the patrons that were there as well. My friend describes the atmosphere like the TV show Cheers. She is a regular and they do know her name. My wife and I rented in Reston Town Summer over the summer while our new home finised construction. It was great to walk to a nice restaurant, but we found the food pricey and nothing wow about the food, except perhaps pricey Mon Ami Gabi. Then we discovered Cafe Montmartre in Lake Ann Center. Great traditional French food at reasonable prices including drink prices. Great service. We eat outside and enjoy the Lake Ann 60's hippie vibe. (We are decidedly not hippies but the place has a fun vibe while chilling over a drink and fine food and good people watching.) Think of it as 70% of L'Auberge at 25% of the price with a Vietnamese kicker. Ask about the specials. For some strange reason they won't tell you about them unless you ask. read more

The food was excellent. The French onion soup was good, a little on the sweet side which is not what I prefer, but adding a little ground pepper made it better. The cheese and french bread in the crock made it a special. Had the trout almondine with rice and veggies. The rice tasted like a good basmati and the vegetables were tender and seasoned well. The trout was very good, though had more oil than I would have liked. It was cooked well and tasted delicious. We split a creme caramel that was also very good. The meal was paced well and our waiter kept returning as necessary to check on us, fill water, get other drinks, etc... Very nice place by the water, beautiful night to sit out. A little on the dark side depending on what table you sat at. We were fine on where we sat, but would recommend putting lights up to make it easier for patrons to see after dark. I've had this bookmarked forever because it's one of the few (or only) French Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Went for brunch and it was disappointing- and definitely overpriced. The goods - escargot were so flavorful and soft. The complimentary baguettes were hot and fresh. Nice venue in Lake Anne, outdoor seating had views of the lake. The bad - One of the dishes we ordered never came out. Towards the end of the meal I asked the waitress to please not include it on the bill and she insisted that the kitchen could make it quickly. We were all full by then and I declined. All the other dishes we ordered were not very good and the portion was underwhelming for the price. The French onion soup was a bit sour. My husbands crab quiche did not taste fresh, the Vietnamese grilled pork and shrimp platter was quite small and lacking all the fresh Vietnamese herbs, and my tuna Niçoise salad was made with canned tuna. There were several options for lunch at the Lake Anne Plaza. Based on yelp reviews we selected Cafe Montmartre. We easily walked in and scored a nice outdoor table. The weather was an unusually nice cool day for early August. I ordered a ham sandwich that came with a fresh salad. They provided 2 pieces of complimentary bread and butter. This was the same bread used for my hand cut ham sandwich. The portion was very generous for about $10. Normally I would have requested extra mustard but this sandwich was pretty tasty. The staff was very attentive. We never had empty glasses and the food arrived pretty fast. They offer a fusion of Vietnamese and casual French fare. read more

Great place, food and ambiance. It was our first time here, we celebrated Fathers Day during Covid. We sat outside, the waitress was the only waitress, but she was very attentive, quick and efficient. There were about 5 other tables of 4-6 diners. I'm surprised this place wasn't busier. For the price and food, we were satisfied with the menu. The outdoor patio area could use a facelift, looks like they took the tables and chairs from a Chinese carry out. This restaurant is one of our favorites. We have probably eaten there 2-3 times a month for 5+ years. It's been at Lake Anne Plaza for over 25 years for a reason- great food and fantastic service. Both reasons why we go. Plus, the outdoor seating helps- our kids can run around Lake Anne Plaza while we wait for our food and after they are done and we can watch them from the table. No long wait for food either. We've tried almost every dish and all is wonderful. Make a reservation in the summer months. Seriously- check this place out. You will not be disappointed. read more

****3.75 stars**** An interesting little place this is. It's a Tuesday evening, and the story begins with us not really being able to find the darn place. See, our GPS led us to the parking lot of a neighboring apartment complex. After getting quizzical and unfriendly glares from the residents, we proceeded to drive around the block looking for the restaurant. No dice. Our best guess was that the restaurant is located in this hidden, run-down plaza named Lake Anne something or other. So we parked our car, grabbed our restaurant.com gift certificate, and decided to walk this odd little plaza (complete with smelly lake, run down drug/grocery stores, and empty storefronts. Sooner or later we found the place, on the first floor of an apartment complex, facing a "Flair for Hair" salon. We were the only ones there, save 2 other tables. More people showed up later on, mostly locals it looked like. We sat outside in some rather pedestrian looking white plastic patio furniture, which didn't seem to coincide with the pricier menu we were handed. I sort of expected to at least be sitting in less dusty and dirty plastic chairs while eating $7 spring rolls. Anyway, we ordered the calamari, seafood linguine, and beef stroganoff. After handing the server our restaurant.com certificate, we were promptly told they couldn't accept our gift certificate. They only accepted certificates dated before 4/9, and unlikely albeit too coincidentally, ours was dated 4/10. We were told restaurant.com was completely at fault, and awkward silence ensued as we just blankly all stared at the waitress and nothing happened for what seemed like at least a minute. Well we ate anyway, since we had already ordered (the waitress eventually told us she called restaurant.com and there was nothing she could do, but offered up one of their own restaurant.com codes for us to use). The food? I have to say, it tasted pretty fresh. Probably fresher than I honestly was expecting (given the empty dining room), but don't get fresh confused with good. I mean, it all tasted ok, but I definitely felt it was overpriced. To be picky, the calamari was soft and fresh, but the breading was a little thick and the sauce runny. It was ok, nothing memorable. My pasta was fresh, the seafood (3 shrimps, calamari, mahi mahi) was fresh. It was all ok. The beef stroganoff, however, wasn't that great. The beef was a bit stringy. In all, this is one of those meals where it was OK, filling, and rather fresh. But, when the bill comes, the experience doesn't translate correctly into how much you owe on the tab. The server was nice and did offer us 10% off due to the mistake. +1 stars for that. But still, at around $60 out the door for basically 2 places of noodles, it's a bit pricey. Unfortunately, I probably wouldn't return -- especially since I live so far away and won't drive all the way out to Reston just to eat there again. **Update: Later that week, I emailed restaurant.com about what happened. They told us it was their policy to honor all outstanding certificates regardless of whether or not a restaurant has cancelled their partnership with the website or not. Restaurant.com also said that all restaurants should know this policy, and they would contact the restaurant to remind them. Interesting, hm? read more

My first encounter with Cafe Montmarte was one lovely Saturday morning where I had no expectations. I love pleasant discoveries like this. All I wanted that morning was to sit in the sun and enjoy the Lake Anne view. I asked the waitress what was their speciality dish and she pointed me to the quiches and pates. And both were excellent choices, in portion and taste. What was especially nice, is the perfect crispness of the baguettes, lightly crusty on the outside, and soft airy inside. The crab quiche was excellent balance of sweet crab meat and egginess (if that is a word). After that encounter, I have returned there to host a small birthday brunch. Even though it was a brisk morning and I initially was bummed that we had to eat inside, it was completely the perfect setting. To my surprise they had decorated each table with bright sunny daffodils which was perfect for the occasion. In addition, as a special request they baked a fruit tart for us girls a nice alternative to a heavy cake. After speaking with the owner through out the event, she was very accommodating to our needs and requests. I would certainly host future events there. read more

Eggs Benedict, three kinds of quiche plus other brunch favorites. Lunch & dinner specials always good. French theme plus a Vietnam menu. Best Hamburger around. Escargot. Calamari. Gazpacho. And DESSERTS. Don't miss them . My wife loves the carrot cake. I am a fan of the creme brûlée. Lately they've added a tiramisu that is the best I've ever had. Outdoor dining when weather permits. There's really nothing fancy about this French restaurant. Simple decor and simple French inspired food. I don't think it should be labeled Vietnamese, because the only "Vietnamese" item on the weekend brunch and lunch menu are the summer rolls. Maybe the weekday menu has actually Vietnamese food. I give them props for excellent service. The food was also delicious but nothing out of the ordinary. I had the mussels and the broth was lightly flavorful with butter and garlic. I like the garlic chunks, sliced red and green bell peppers, and I think, bits of saffron in the broth. All the mussels were edible so that's a positive. My husband had the pate sandwich and it was descent pate. The salad also came with mini pickles to spice up the greens. The complimentary bread came out warm so more props. Definitely the better place to dine at when at Lake Anne, Reston. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to dine here. read more

Okay, here's the problem. Cost. We have gone here many times and the food is good. The Pho is great...great broth. the spring rolls about as good as it gets. The onion soup, fantastic. But the other day we went, the four of us, two adults, two kids, and had 1) One small Pho, 2) two orders spring rolls, 3) one side of fries, 4) one bahn mi sandwich 5) two french onion soups, 6) one coke, 7) one glass of wine. Cafe Montmartre could survive on their bread alone. We have been regulars for ages. First our kids, now our grandkids play in the fountain on Lake Anne plaza while we eat. Unlike most al fresco joints, outdoor seating is on Lake Anne. Not a car in sight. No exhaust fumes. Cafe Montmartre is Reston's hidden gem. Last visit was between waves of Covid-19. Curious to see others had trouble finding this place. Such was my case. GPS is not very reliable. So, here're the directions. Turn south on Village Rd. from Baron Cameron. Turn left onto N. Lake Shore Dr. Then immediately right into the parking lot. A convenience store is on the right. Keep walking south past the buildings and to the edge of Lake Anne. Why so difficult to find? Lake Anne development was built as an extraordinary planned community. Not a far stretch from communities like Robert Owen's New Harmony, IN. A mere glimpse of the architecture will signal that Lake Anne is indeed a very different place. The intent was to preserve communal strength. A byproduct is that shops are hard to find. There's little to no signage. When you locate Cafe Montmartre, you're in for a nice treat. I had a wonderful brunch of an omelet and the fixings. Do go when the weather is fit and sit outside to enjoy the fountain, view of the lake, and the tranquility. Also, the Reston museum is directly across from CM. Stop and give it a tour. Great place to take visitors. They also have a nice dining room. Menu is not extensive, but has a lot of favorites. read more

Back to cafe Montmartre had a wonderful early dinner. The scallops with Lemon & herbs sauce is very tasty and fresh. We start with Shrimp & sweet potato Fritters and finish the meal with Crème Brûlée. Now it's time to walk around Lake Ann. Always be my favorite place for years. All the Quiche are excellent. The Mussels Marinière is the best. We also enjoy the Viêt Menu especially Pho soup, Roasted Viêt chicken over salad and Viêt Grilled Platter. We love the food here.
