Jade Dynasty is our go to Cantonese restaurant in the Twin Cities. None of that American Chinese food;) It's a more upscale looking Chinese restaurant, and we love that they have big round marble lauriat tables with a lazy susan. We usually come with extended family and this is one place that has a big enough tank for 12. We were celebrating a birthday so ordered too much food for our group of 7. We also arrived early enough for dimsum. We went to Jade Dynasty around 6:45pm on a Monday. It is handicapped accessible, with a few handicap parking spaces in the lot. Most of the rest of parking is in a paid lot. The space is fairly clean, modern, and brightly lit during the day. My partner had the Nankin Wanderer's Punch which was sweet and fruity. I had the Long Island Limoncello which was good, but a little bland. We shared the rest of the meal. Steamed Bbq Pork Buns were delicious. Highly recommend. Steamed Soup Dumplings were very hot so I recommend letting them sit for a few minutes. Once they were cool enough to eat they were very good. Sesame Chicken-this is a dish I often use as a benchmark, and it was excellent. The chicken was crispy and the sauce was very good. Eggplant in Garlic Sauce was also delicious. Beef Brisket Stewed Clay Pot was disappointing. First off it was not in a clay pot. Why call it clay pot when you could call it a hot pot. When it is brought to your table it is fully cooked, and the pot is placed over a small gas stove so it continues to cook while at your table. Even though we let it stew for quite a while the beef was very tough and very chewy. Even though we ordered appetizers a good 10-15 minutes before the entrees, all of the food came out at the same time. Food was delivered fairly quickly, servers were ok. read more

**** GOAT DIM SUM ALERT**** This place has the best roasted pork buns on dim sum that I've ever had in my life. The inside is of a Peking brown sauce style roasted pork inside the white bao bun. They also have the best long shrimp noodles on dim sum. Very thick and doesn't break when you pick it up with your chopsticks. This is the best dim sum place in all of Minnesota. I mean, we are talking comparable to Los Angeles, Boston, & New York. They have a huge parking lot, however, the spots adjacent to the building are customer parking free parking. Had the beef and broccoli lunch special. Upon ordering I thought it was fairly pricey at $15 for a lunch special. Lunch came with one egg roll and white rice. You could upgrade to fried rice for $3. The woman who took my phone order and when I picked my food up from inside was extremely nice and helpful! It looked busy inside when I took it to go. The container looked bigger than I thought it was going to be with good flavor. I probably would order something different next time and I would definitely go back to try some more of their items. Service is good, the restaurant is spacious, nicely decorated, and has plenty of seating. The food is good too. I had dim sum with a friend and everything tasted freshly made and good. I just wish there were at least 1 more piece of chicken feet in the order and the sponge cake not be as sweet or sticky. It's good, but it also had a very bold flavor of brown sugar and a lot of it was sticking to the paper. The garlic fried fish and roast duck were flavorful and fresh too. This is our second visit to this restaurant and I'm and in this updated, I'm giving it five stars. The shrimp dumplings were the standout dish from last time, so I ordered it again, and they were equally terrific. I believe we ordered the egg rolls last time, but these were veggie and also were crispy and delicious. Impressive is the more-subtle-than-most sweet and sour sauce. Usually, it's cloyingly sweet, but Jade Dynasty does it most better than others because it's flavorful without that usual overwhelming sweetness. Also excellent. For main courses my wife had the minced Minced Pork Stir Fry with Chives and xo sauce. This had great flavor with the minced pork, fresh chives and XO sauce combining well for a good dish. I tried the Kung Pao Chicken. For as common as this is, it's interesting that every restaurant has a different spin on it. Jade's version was excellent with a variety of veggies, in addition to good (and generous) pieces of chicken. Among the ingredients were green pepper, yellow onion, green onion, and peanuts. The sauce was excellent and I very much enjoyed it. In terms of appearance, Jade Dynasty is a joy to look at. It's bright, opulent, and just plain beautiful. It looks better than any Chinese restaurant I've ever seen. Our server seemed a bit distracted, like her mind was somewhere else. But other than giving my wife regular Iced Tea, instead of Iced Milk Tea, everything arrived hot and in great shape. I believe that Jade Dynasty has dramatically reduced their menu selection, which is a good thing. It was overwhelming to read, and I'm sure the food was overwhelming to make. Now that they have paired it down, this is an improvement. In this case, less is definitely more. read more

Jade Dynasty brought up some genuine concerns for me. When we walked in, the atmosphere was really nice and I actually liked the way the restaurant looked. The service was okay and we were seated almost immediately. We ordered a variety of things. The dumplings were just okay, and the kung pao chicken was also pretty average. The sauce was good, but the chicken itself tasted a little freezer burned to me. We also ordered a large meat platter with duck, pork, and poached chicken, and everything came out very lukewarm. When I asked our server about it, she told me that was how it was prepared, which surprised me because I have been to plenty of Chinese restaurants and have never had a meat platter served that cold. My biggest concern happened when I walked toward the restroom and noticed one of the fish in the tank. It was upside down, barely moving, and repeatedly hitting against the side of the tank. It looked extremely unhealthy to me and appeared to have visible damage to its body. When I got back to the table, I mentioned it to our server. She told me she had already checked on the fish and said that sometimes they do that. The whole situation made me extremely uncomfortable, especially seeing a fish in that condition inside a restaurant. I obviously cannot say what was actually wrong with the fish or what they planned to do with it, but what I personally saw was concerning enough that I did not feel comfortable eating here again. Jade Dynasty was absolutely delicious! Their dim sum menu offers a wonderful variety of shareable plates, making it perfect for larger groups or anyone who loves trying multiple dishes. It's such a great spot if you enjoy sampling different dishes. The space is stunning, especially after the recent remodel. You walk into a beautiful dining area that opens up into a larger space with high ceilings, gorgeous light fixtures, and an airy, open feel. It feels modern, elegant, and welcoming all at once. A blast from the past as I was able to delve into some of the most classic HK Noodle dishes back when I was a UofM student Jade Dynasty comes from the same heritage with many familiar faces. Ordered - Roast Pork/Duck: Tasty, good balance of fat to meat ratio, and phenomenal when paired with rice. Also, not gamey which usually can occur with duck - Beef Chow Fun: Wok Hei was on point (IYKYK). Noodles were skinnier than other places but still was delicious - Golden Fried Garlic Fish: Our favorite. This was circa 2010s from college. Heard great things about this restaurant, with friends from LA saying it was the best Chinese restaurant they've been to. I was excited to discover they served dim sum every day. Meant to order the green beans that I read high reviews about but only getting things from the dim sum menu. Loved the shrimp rice noodle - impressively long, and made with very large and well flavored shrimp. The turnip cakes were amazing - will definitely get those again. I also really liked the taro puffs and coconut puffing. I was a little disappointed with the sticky rice in bamboo leaf since it was a little mushy and the flavor wasn't as deep as I expected. And the stuffed eggplant was quite disappointing. Pretty but very bland. But everything came out very quickly and hot. And the service was very friendly and efficient. The restaurant is also very lovely. It was very impressed with the decor, and the gigantic 22 seat table on the upper level. For Dim Sum a high bar has to be met for me to be blown away and this was not it. The food was ok but honestly as dim sum goes it was ehh. Lack of choices that I love, no carts going around, overpriced versus other dim sum locations. Also pay to park was not the experience I was going for. This is a nice and convenient spot. It's very spacious, so there is no problem accommodating a big group. You also don't need a reservation since there are so many table. However, I still wish they had a better reservation system; it's currently not automated and requires an email to reserve. Overall, this restaurant is really aesthetically pleasing with attentive and pretty quick service. Although, I've only been during non peak hours, so service experience may vary. Now, the food is quite good and I enjoyed most of my dishes. This place is on par or slightly better than most other Asian restaurants. I especially enjoyed the fried rice options, the bbq pork, and the Korean short ribs. However, I was underwhelmed by the fried chicken and potstickers, both lacked seasoning. Portions are huge as well so you get a lot of value for your money because this place isn't expensive at all. Stumbled upon Jade Dynasty being in the area and looking for a place for dinner. We started with a Livener bubbles drink and a boba tea. Their menu is large and I was overwhelmed. We order shrimp dumplings (3/5), fried cheese puffs (5/5), beef chow fun with black bean sauce (4/5), and seafood with lo mein (3/5). The lo mein had good flavor but because there were various types of seafood mixed it and it felt a little bit like mystery meat trying to figure out what type of sea creature you were eating. Our server was very nice and provided recommendations, but a little slow. The serving sizes are LARGE, we shared and still had two meals of leftovers to take home with us. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant and it is pretty easy to access from Lake St. The restaurant is pretty and depending on where you sit you can see the fish tanks. Initially the restaurant name made me assume that it wasn't going to have good food because it was a very stereotypical way of naming a Chinese food place and usually places like such ends up with subpar quality Chinese American food, but after I tried the dim sum here with a friend, we both agreed that we would return, and I honestly was glad that we can find solid dim sum right here in Minneapolis without having to roam into the suburbs. All the dim sum items are very good in the most conventional way, which is a good thing, because dim sum is comfort food and people want to ensure that it tastes like home. My favorite item was actually the egg custard lava buns because the sweetness and saltiness balance for the egg custard lava was very well done, so neither flavor was overpowering, and I have tasted the same item from other places for worse. My friend and I ordered many of the most commonly found items in a dim sum menu and we were both satisfied. Relatively the item I enjoyed the least was the egg tart, primarily because it wasn't fresh enough. It did not have the egg flavor and the custard mixture was hard, almost making it taste like it was premade a while ago. I don't know what else to say other than that the dim sum tasted like the good dim sum I have had elsewhere in the United States, so I will just say that if one is craving for dim sum, this establishment is a great place to visit. read more

We stopped into Jade Dynasty after catching an acoustic set on the water and grabbed seats at the bar. The place was very busy, which gave it a lively vibe. The bartender was super friendly and upfront. He let us know their menu item names had just been updated in the system, so ordering might be tricky. He also warned that dumplings would take a while due to cook time and the crowd. We were in no rush, so no problem. We ordered the deep fried shrimp balls, steamed BBQ pork buns, and a couple of cocktails. The lemongrass 75 came in a cute whale-shaped cup and was really tasty. The shrimp balls were crispy, flavorful, and paired well with our drinks. Unfortunately, the BBQ pork buns never showed up. After about 45 minutes we asked about them, and the staff quickly brought out something that looked like stale bread covered in garlic butter. It was not the dumpling-like item pictured on the menu and was generally unappetizing. That put a damper on the meal. Overall, the ambiance was nice, the cocktails were fun, and some dishes looked worth trying. Given how packed it was, it is clearly a popular spot. I will probably give it another chance, but this visit was hit or miss. Be prepared for long waits, especially on dumplings. Paid parking lot available. read more

TLDR: Food is great, and like others have mentioned, service needs a lot of work. It's a lively ambiance inside during dinner time and the interior is cute We stopped by on a Thursday evening for dinner. It was early (5:30 pm), so the place was pretty empty. we asked to sit at a booth and they told us those were not for two people so they sat us at a different table, but after 30 minutes or so, we saw quite a few groups of two being sat in the booths we were not allowed to sit in. I would've understood if the place was full, but it was very empty at that point. we asked for a few minutes to decide on what we wanted, and they took quite a while to come back and take our order. Once we place our order, the food did come out relatively quickly. We tried the fried tofu with shrimp, the beef brisket pot, and the Mongolian beef, all of which were very tasty. However, we were given such little rice for two people when two dishes were supposed to have come with white rice themselves. When I looked over at other tables that also had the same amount of food and people as us they were given more rice. we also had to flag the server down to ask for more water because they never stopped by to check. our server also gave us the check before we even asked and didn't even check in to see if we wanted anything else. We felt like we were being rushed out, especially after being barely attended to. Overall, I felt that the food was really yummy and the portions were generous, but I would likely not eat here again because the service was just so bad and inattentive. Maybe takeout! read more

Beautifully decorated inside, comfortable seating , and clean tables. A great family style restaurant with lots of options if your people have different dietary restrictions. You can get vegetarian, pork, seafood, beef, and chicken, duck, etc. The portion sizes are pretty generous as well. Dim sum is served all the time which is nice, but it took just a bit longer to come out than other dishes. The pork bun was super soft, it broke apart when grabbing it. It is also on the sweeter side. The orange chicken is crispy, sweet, and comes with broccoli to balance. Bbq duck was juicy and not overly covered in sauce. Staff is attentive, had my water filled up plenty of times. There is a paid parking lot that is spacious, but the turn into the parking can be busy. read more

This is an excellent place to dine with a small to medium sized group. Everything is medium to large portions, great for sharing. Even if you go with just one other person, you'll be able to share a few items family style. They have an extensive menu of exotic as well as American favorite Chinese dishes. Dim sum is my favorite category of food so had to make the trip to try out this newer spot. First impressions are very formal with an enormous dining room, large family-style tables, and loads of gilding on every surface. The service was super fast and friendly. We went right when they opened so can't speak to how it is when it's really busy. As always, make sure to start off with chrysanthemum tea! It's not the standard cart-service style where you're fighting for a table close to the kitchen to snipe the freshest goodies. You have a dry-erase menu and mark off what you want. They bring it out as it's ready so you always get relatively fresh fare. Everything was good but not mind blowing. The char siu bao, salt & pepper octopus, and lava custard buns were my favorites. I looooove this place! Jade Dynasty is such an awesome Cantonese restaurant! If it were closer to me, I would be here for dinner every weeknight. I have not had a single bad dish. Everything has been consistently delicious, especially love their beef chow fun and all their meat dishes. The vegetable dishes are just as impressive, fresh and full of flavor. Their braised eel is amazing -- tender, rich, and full of umami. The fried fish and shrimp are next-level too -- crispy, perfectly seasoned, and topped with those irresistible garlic cracklings that make every bite unforgettable. I want come back for their seafood tower and lobsters. You know the seafood is as fresh as it gets when you see them swimming in the live tanks, which is the true north of any great Chinese restaurant. Fun VIP experience for our birthday party of 11. Delicious Chinese food in large family sized portions, with a modern and clean restaurant. I highly recommend the Siu Mai, Beef Tenderloin, Salt & Pepper Octopus and Wanderer's Punch cocktail. Skip the Peking Duck 2 Ways, Crab Meat & Fish Maw Soup, and Korean Style Beef Short Ribs. Peking Duck Two Ways was advertised in the menu as $68, but I later noticed that they charged us $88. The first duck meat was tender and juicy while the skin was crispy. They served the duck with thick Bao buns instead of the thin pancakes I expected. The toppings included cucumbers, scallions and hoisin sauce, but was missing the julienned carrots pictured on the menu. The pricing change may have been because the second duck was chopped and served with this delicious green beans instead of the "Shredded Duck Meat with Lettuce Wrap" in the menu. Either way, the substitution was not explained to us clearly. Service was very helpful during ordering and was highly attentive when they were there. However, there were times during our meal when we had long waits in between server check-ins. When I called to make a reservation for a VIP table (upstairs) they explained that we would have a minimum charge of $300 for a 12 person table and that the bill could only be split up to 4 ways. This was not a problem for us, but glad they explained it up front. They also mentioned we would not be seated until everyone arrived, but that was not what happened since they weren't that busy on a Sunday night. There are 3 VIP tables available, and the minimum charge increases up to $400 for their largest VIP table that seats 18. We would have preferred one of the round tables with lazy Susan, but our group is so loud and boisterous that it's probably a good thing they put us a room protected by glass walls. Haha! FYI the table next to us ordered this awesome looking dish called the Fried Seafood Mountain! I was so jealous but they said it was $177 - maybe someday. It looked so impressive though. Still in their soft opening, and we had a fun experience, so I didn't take away any stars for service. I'd love to come back and try more dishes from their expansive menu. First off; good parking, very spacious restaurant, and beautiful. As we were looking through the menu, we noticed they had a lot to offer. Everything looked really good as well. It wasn't about until 5-10 minutes after looking through the menu that our waiter told us that the items marked with an orange circle sticker were not available. He said it was due to having an extensive menu and they are fairly new. It would have been nice if they told me when I made reservations and even before we sat down. It was a let down because more than half of what we wanted to order had an orange sticker. That was a bummer for a table of 7. But nonetheless, the food was good. Cute vibey place with lots of seating. Service is friendly and attentive. Food is a little overpriced but good. The Hong Kong style duck is delicious and they got the skin perfectly seasoned. I liked that key dim sum dishes are available all day. The salted egg yolk buns and shumai were really good. Great cocktail selection with fun Asian inspired flavors. The black sesame espresso martini wasn't overpowering and the lychee martini was good too. The lemongrass 75 came in a cute whale cup. We went for dim sum and tried a lot of things: steamed pork buns and shrimp dumplings in tofu skin were savory highlights, the sesame balls and custard dumplings were both excellent sweet options, but really you can do no wrong, everything we had was great. A very enjoyable dining experience with a menu full of flavorful dishes and generous portions. The food is consistently well prepared, and there are plenty of options to satisfy a variety of tastes. Authentic Chinese/Cantonese style bbq, dim sum, seafood PLUS great vibes! They are slightly more pricey than other Chinese places but definitely worth it. For example if you get a fried rice somewhere else, it might cost you $15-$18 with smaller portions of protein, mostly just rice; the eel + cha siu fried rice we got here is huge. The eel and pork were so juicy and we couldn't finish all the protein. This fried rice costs $22 though. You have to try the salty + pepper fried octopus - it's an appetizer but pretty big portion and this was my favorite dish. Hong Kong style bbq is good too - the onion ginger oil sauce goes really well with the chicken! They actually made the sauce the way Hainan and Cantonese people did it. At other places you will just have to always eat everything with soy sauce (which is something we can simply buy at a grocery store) and that really bores me. read more
