Pimiento cheese sushi? Yes, we are where pimiento cheese is popular but - I'll pass!

I was in a hurry and hungry and have been craving Asian cuisine. I thought this buffet would offer the usual healthy choices and variety. NOT! I should have walked the buffet before accepting a seat and picking up a plate. I arrived about 5:00 p.m. The bar already looked stale, old, and some things were put on the line because they ran out of ideas - hence seafood spaghetti, pimiento sushi, and the list goes on. I can usually find lean protein, sautéed veggies (green beans, broccoli), Singapore noodles, etc, but struck out. I put a teriyaki chicken skewer on my plate and some yakisoba noodles. Chicken skewer was tough and the yakisoba noodles were flavorless and oily. I left without eating and paid the $16.99 because I felt obligated. My beverage was a water. Sanitation and maintenance are clearly not evident. Oh!! They had those grade-school cups of ice cream in a separate freezer for $1 to go only. I am still kicking myself. Never again.

    Storefront at night.

2.5 stars for Jade Garden sounds about right. This is your run-of-the-mill Chinese buffet so come with tempered expectations. It's only $10 for all-you-can-eat, so the value is there and it's the main reason why I'm bumping this place up to 3 stars. Surprisingly, there is a lot of variety for just 10 bucks, but you also get what you pay for. It shows in the food's poor to mediocre quality. Jade Garden is located near the Tanger Outlets on 278 (Fording Island Road). It's tucked away in a strip mall and hard to see from the road. Look for Saigon Cafe, another restaurant in the same shopping center, which is easier to find. The restaurants are on the same side of the road as the outlet malls. Our family has been coming here on and off for years. The inside is a little bit nicer than one would expect. Unlike typical Chinese "super" buffets, Jade Garden is more quiet. There are a few different dining rooms. The main dining room has privacy walls set up between sections, which is nice. The decor, floor to ceiling, isn't too shabby for a cheap Chinese buffet. Here's a list of items you might find on the buffet. Note it's not 100% complete, but close. Dim sum items: Shrimp, pork, and chicken dumplings Gyoza/potstickers Chive cake and chive dumplings Sticky rice in lotus leaf Egg tarts Seafood: Salt and pepper fried calamari Cheese mussels Steamed little clams Crawfish Cooked shrimp Steamed salmon "Cheese" crab meat Stuffed shrimp Fried flounder (bone-in) Sushi: Assorted rolls with seaweed, tuna, tofu skin, vegetables, and tobiko Mongolian stir-fry bar (plates cooked to order): Steak, chicken, pork Noodles Assorted veggies - onions, broccoli, baby corn, bean sprouts, carrots, mushrooms, etc. Salad/cold bar: Shrimp cocktail Salad Broccoli salad Deviled eggs Meats, entrees, and sides/appetizers: Egg rolls Chicken wings Chicken nuggets Crab rangoon Mac and cheese Pizza (yes, pizza) Wonton soup Mixed vegetables (broccoli, carrots, baby corn, water chesnuts) Pepper steak General Tso's chicken Chicken with broccoli String beans Honey chicken "Crispy" chicken Sauteed mushrooms "New York steak" Vegetable lo mein Vegetable fried rice BBQ pork ribs Dessert: Sugared doughnut balls Apple pie Sprinkle-covered brownies Coconut puffs Cream-filled pastries Jello Pudding Peaches Oranges Mandarin oranges Cantaloupe Assorted cookies Single-serve ice cream cups (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry) I've tried most of the food here and it's hit or miss. Some of the foods are fresher than others and your experience will vary each visit. If you see them bring out a fresh batch of something from the kitchen, go grab it. Some items look (and taste) like they've been sitting out all day, if not longer. Some of the decent foods include the chive dumplings, sticky rice in lotus leaf, steamed clams, fried flounder, chicken wings, mixed vegetables, string beans, and the Americanized chinese food (e.g. General Tso's chicken, chicken with broccoli, pepper steak, honey chicken, etc.). I like the steamed clams. They're just so tiny. However, for the price, I'm not complaining. The fried flounder, when fresh, may be their best item. Quite crispy and delicious actually. Disappointments include the egg tarts (blech), the salt and pepper calimari (way too soggy and oily), cheese mussels (it could do without the heavy cheese), pork ribs (too fatty, excessively thick sauce), and several of the desserts. I'm sure many of the foods are prepackaged. For example, the peaches, Mandarin oranges, cookies, etc. could easily have come from a can or box. For low-end buffet sushi, the sushi rolls are not terrible. I like that they actually use tobiko (green and orange colored), real fish, and don't overload the rolls with too much rice which is typical of economic Asian/sushi buffets. One of the most memorable things about this restaurant for me has been the ice cream. There's a freezer in a back corner of the restaurant, near the other desserts, that contains boxes of "Wholesome Farms" single-cup ice cream. Many customers walk past the non-descript freezer and don't realize there's ice cream to be had in there. The ice cream cups remind me of the ones served at elementary schools. In fact, it may be the same because Wholesome Farms is a Sysco product. Service is fine. In addition to the buffet, you can call in orders for take-out. There is no delivery service.

    Mold on the ceiling!!!!!

Stay away, my whole family got sick the day after eating here. My in-laws went a different time and claimed that it was ok, so they invited us to try it out again, against my better judgement, we went back. This time to find the AC dripping from the ceiling, mold above the table, by the AC and huge cobwebs in the corner. I refused to ever go back, and walked out...

    Other choices from buffet.

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. I'm surprised they received a C rating. Service was horrible. Food was almost inedible.

Ordered some chicken mini platters, fruit and hash browns for breakfast when we visited yesterday…read more I was unable to get the app to let me place the order, but was successful doing it by phone. Food was ready when I picked it up and hot and delicious. The fruit was fresh and plentiful. Of course, I never met a potato in any form I didn't like, so those were a hit as well. No pics because my father in law thinks I'm a nut for doing so. I'm just trying to get along! lol I don't know why this Chic Fil A gets these negative reviews. The place was spotless, the young lady at the counter was gracious and helpful. The food was great.

Disappointing, but we let it go. Today, after running errands, I made another 30-minute trip for lunch and -- again -- no Diet Coke. It's honestly hard to understand how that happens two days in a row at a Chick-fil-A. On top of that, the location had a strong unpleasant odor due to construction, they were out of salt, and the staff seemed frustrated that I was disappointed. Being told it's "spring break" doesn't feel like a valid excuse -- busy seasons should be planned for. This is now the second year in a row I've had a disappointing experience at this Hilton Head location. I expect better from a brand known for its service and consistency. I truly hope this location takes a closer look at both customer service and overall quality.
