Been patronizing this business for 20 years plus before the current management. The original owners I came to know was a kind Chinese man just trying to make a go at running a respectable, profitable business. Being an immigrant myself, I appreciated his hard work and integrity, at least in terms of providing a service to the community that was customer service based. At some point, the business changed hands. The ones in charge of the business have now been there for a good stretch of time. They seem to be a familial team (mom and pop). I have given this business my patronage for over 20 years now, always giving them the benefit of the doubt. I have ignored the lack of friendliness from the business management, and downright abrasiveness, chalking it up to the culture divide. Honestly, though at some point you have to stop giving ppl a pass for behaving badly. I used to be a 1X-3x per month patron, but am now maybe a once every other month customer. After tonight's experience, I'm wondering if I'll be going back this year at all. Prices here have gone up 40-50% which is understandable in today's market, But Jesus Christ, don't be so unfriendly and so unpleasant to deal with. Your product is mediocre at best. Tasty and quick Chinese food! I stopped by close to closing during a weekday and ordered the Chicken Lo Mein. The inside is very clean and the kitchen area is visible which I liked. The food is priced fairly and was ready in less than 5 minutes. The small was a very large serving which was a pleasant surprise. The chicken lo mein was good and very saucey. I enjoyed the larger chunks of cabbage. I do wish there was more chicken. This is something I'd keep in mind in the future when ordering and instead get the veggie lo mein and possibly a separate chicken dish. read more

2.5 Stars. I shop at the Publix in the same shopping center, so I decided to try Jade Garden. The front door was propped open, and it's clearly because there is no air conditioning. It would be way too hot to eat inside the restaurant. They still have their COVID-19 plexiglass precautions all set up, and the women working the counter behind them was very unfriendly, to the point of being rude. I ordered off of their "house special" section of the menu, and got the General Tso's Chicken. It was described as chunks of chicken sautéed with broccoli in a spicy sauce. I got home, opened the container, and actually laughed out loud. It was these fried nuggets in a greasy orange sauce, with a total of 2 pieces of broccoli. I know there were exactly 2, because they placed them right on top so you could see them. For all the greasy sauce, there was zero flavor, and zero spice. Let's see I am always skeptical with new Chinese places. But I was craving the food so I tried it. The reviews looked ok and I ordered chicken and broccoli and sesame chicken both with steam rice. I chose to sit and eat and there was space to eat inside and it was clean they had pictures of their menu on the windows which help shade the Florida sun. The food was good was not a big fan of the chicken egg roll. The staff pretty nice and location convenient. I would recommend this place price was not that bad either. I have always had a Chinese food addiction and having recently moved to the Tampa area, I was on the hunt for a new regular spot. Jade Garden did not disappoint. The food is reasonably priced, which is rare these days. It comes out quickly, hot and ready and is extremely tasty. The restaurant is clean and the service is very polite. I ordered shrimp and lobster sauce to go at this place. They served the rice in a small Chinese food box and the lobster sauce in plastic container. No issue there. However, because I planned to eat this in my vehicle I politely asked for a styrofoam box. The lady instead hands me a flat plate which would make things more difficult considering the lobster sauce is liquidy. When I asked for a styrofoam container instead she got loud with me and refused. How rude! It wasn't like I was asking for free food or anything, just a normal container they had a stack off that would allow me to eat my meal without getting rice and sauce everywhere. Screw Jade Garden. I have had a hankering for Chinese food for a few weeks now and Jade Garden looked like they needed some more love on Yelp. Jade Garden is a solid 3 stars! As I write this review, it's coming from a place of having dined at many Chinese take-out places in several different states around the country. That comparison is what I base my star points on. I placed my take-out order at 6:40 PM and then took a seat to observe the scene and review the menu. It was pretty much your standard take-out restaurant atmosphere with your standard Chinese food menu. There was nothing particularly special about it that made it stand out. A couple of other customers came in and ordered some food about 5 minutes after me. Around 6:55 PM (give or take) the cashier called out some orders. Interestingly enough, the orders were for the people who came in and ordered AFTER me. I continued to sit and wait until a little after 7 before my order was complete. I found this a little off-putting. I got home with my food and it smelled delicious. I was excited to tear into it. I have to say, it wasn't too bad, but it wasn't the best. The chicken with broccoli had an excellent flavor and the veggies were cooked perfectly. I had an issue with the chicken, as I do with most Chinese take out. The texture of the chicken was off--almost a bit rubbery or chewy. The rice that came with it seemed old and not very moist. The chicken lo mein was pretty good, though not as flavorful as the first dish. The egg drop soup was totally disappointing. It was very bland and flavorless. The egg rolls were pretty standard, but also quite tasty. The portion sizes I got were outstanding. I paid $5 for the pint-size portions for each meal, but as you can see in my pictures, I received a hearty amount of food. They definitely give you your money's worth. Would I come here again? Maybe. I wouldn't miss it if I didn't... But I might if I'm just really hungry and happen to be passing by. It didn't quite settle my craving, so my quest for a regular spot shall continue on. read more

I don't order Chinese food very often, but when I do...I want it to mimic NY style Chinese food. I stopped at Jade Garden on a Monday night after finding out that most ramen places were closed and I needed to find a take-out alternative. Yelp certainly helped me with this one! I ordered an appetizer of crab rangoon, chicken lo mein with pork fried rice as well as beef & mixed veggies with white rice. I did not order ahead and stopped by around 8pm. The food was ready within about 10 minutes (as promised, which I was not expecting based on previous Chinese food restaurant estimates!). I do not think this place does delivery because it was not on their menu nor advertised on the storefront. The establishment was larger than other Chinese restaurants I've been to with seating for at least 20 people. It was clean and had clearly marked restrooms. The woman at the counter was very friendly and attentive. They got my order right and it came to just under $19. Comparable prices to other places in the area. The food was delicious. The beef and veggies reminded me of NY style Chinese food for sure and the crab rangoon was very large. All other food was tasty and did not disappoint. I would definitely return to this place...lives up to the promise of being a NY style Chinese food restaurant. read more

Cheap, delicious, plentiful food. My husband is a super picky eater. A restaurant can't be too healthy or too unique. I can tell that if a restaurant menu looks exciting to me, he won't enjoy it. He is, however, a lover of Chinese food. I love dim sum, but every day Chinese food is take it or leave it for me. Since I have less of an aversion to Chinese food than he does to everything else I found this place, which is only 6 minutes from his work. Things to know: 1. It is warm! At first, I was afraid my husband was going to sweat through his suit. It was warm enough to make me question if their AC was broken. After acclimatizing a bit to the temperature, I found it was definitely warm, but not uncomfortably so. My husband didn't break a sweat in his suit so I wouldn't count the temp as a negative, just something to take note of. 2. Their portion sizes are huge. I got a small Shrimp and Vegetables and it was definitely filling. My husband got a Chicken and Broccoli lunch combination and sent half of it home with me. They don't skimp on portions. 3. Their "diet menu" just means the food with sauce on the side. This seriously cracked me up. I ended up dipping my chopsticks in the sauce to give the food some flavor. I'm really happy I ordered off the diet menu because I left without feeling drowsy and having an MSG headache! I wish all places would offer this! This is definitely a hole in the wall spot. There is no ambiance to this place whatsoever. For some reason, it reminds me of a more run down version of Subway (maybe it's the style of seats and tables). But would I go back? Absolutely. First time here...the flavor of the food wasn't too bad, however, I wasn't able to eat the shrimp... (I ordered shrimp and broccoli). The shrimp wasn't cooked and was very translucent. I had asked to make it spicy and they said I would have to charge you to make it spicy because it's a dish that doesn't come spicy automatically... greedy! Never had that happen before. Overall... If i could give leas than a one star, I would. I ordered moo shu chicken and an egg roll. 1. The egg roll was cold and primarily dough, crust, wrap, whatever you call it. Very uninspiring. 2) the moo shu was horrible... no discernible chicken in it, the little pieces were so small, my wife had to point them out to me. the veggies were limp and soggy, I asked for hot pepper oil 3 times and she still could not understand me. No hot pepper oil in the bag. FINALLY, the wraps you use to make a moo shu wrap were those cheap, fake, processed wraps that disintegrate the moment you attempt to pick it up. I will never go back. My coworkers and I have no idea how this place has 4 stars. Do not eat here. My coworker's chicken fried rice had grey chicken and my garlic chicken had about eight little shreds of "chicken" that were dangly and gross. When I went back to return them, the staff argued with me for several minutes before giving our money back. Had they been nice about the return I would have maybe given them a slightly better review. $8 bucks can get you a great amount of food. All of it tastes good and it's the perfect couch and movie meal.

PROS: -Tons of variety, even for this style Chinese -Prices are very good, servings large -Surprisingly fresh tasting ingredients -Reasonable vegetarian and "special diet" choices -Friendly counter service CONS: -Not much to look at, but for NY-style Chinese, do you really care? -A lunch buffet would rock! LOCATION: Tucked into the corner of the shopping center at Hillsborough Ave and Habana Ave dominated by Publix. Parking directly in front is limited and awkward to navigate but there is plenty of space in the rest of the lot. FOOD: I see the menu as typical of these NY-style Chinese fast-fry places but with an even greater diversity. The main menu has at least 160 items and that doesn't include the 20+ lunch specials. The breakouts are standard: apps, soup, fried rice, various noodles and blocks of selections based on protein choice. Most items are available in a pint or quart size. I've eaten several lunches here but really like the pork fried rice, chicken curry and Singapore Chow Mai Fun. Getting beyond the menu, the real winner, for me, is that this is the best NY-style Chinese I've found in my two years in Tampa. I know other Yelpers have made similar declarations so there is something to it. I've also found that the ingredients seem to be very fresh (not always a guarantee, in my experience) and well-seasoned. Given I've liked everything I've ordered, and the enormous selections, JG deserves 4 Stars for Food. SERVICE: Of course you order at the counter and pay right there but every time it's been polite and friendly. There is very little language barrier. The food prep is actually a little on the long side for the style but I'm happy to chalk that up to starting each order when its placed. Easy 4 Stars for Service. VALUE: The prices for my lunches are very, very good. Few things exceed $10. The lunch chicken curry, with a big serving of pork fried rice, a fried egg roll, fortune cookie and a bottled water is less than 7 bucks! And it's huge. I never finish it and it could easily be two meals. I would expect to get some limp, stale, non-inspiring meal for that price, but the flavors are very good besides. Definitely worth 5 Stars for Value. ATMOSPHERE: Also typical of the style, the front of the house is just a drink cooler and several tables. To their credit, there are actually more tables than most but take-out orders are still the bulk of the business. Probably the best NY style Chinese takeout I've been to so far in Tampa. They are very quick for take out orders. The place looks clean, nothing fancy, just couple tables. During lunch there is quite a few people that come here, but it doesn't stop their speed and quality of orders that come out. I've tried this place out for lunch several times, satisfied each time I went, no complaints. Food is always hot, egg rolls are crispy. The food is never dry, I've had this problem at a few other Chinese Take out places. I recommend coming here for lunch because it is cheap, tasty, fast, and you get your moneys worth. Usually I can't even finish the whole meal given to me. I recommend the boneless spare ribs, general tso's chicken, or sweet and sour chicken. I think for most people they are hungry as hell when they come here during lunch, therefore there was no food photos. I stopped myself and actually take a picture for all to see. I came here based on reviews on yelp and the fact that it is sort of close to my work. I ordered Beef Broccoli for lunch... and with lunch special you get this delicious smokey BBQ pork fried rice, along with a pretty good egg roll. With tax I think it was $5.75 I've seen some horrific looking broccoli at some Chinese takeout in Tampa Bay Area so I was skeptical. But I'm glad I came. Everything was really awesome and satisfying. Cons: staff could be a bit warmer. I went on a slow Sunday evening, and all my 'hello's pleases and thank yous ' were met with cold stoicism. I know they are there to serve me food and not to be my best friend, but it's the little things that go a long way with customers. Now onto the good stuff: fried chicken wings were average, not bad but not great either. I DEFINITELY appreciate that their wings are quite meaty, unlike that 80% breading/10% meat underdeveloped chicken wings that are served at another of my neighborhood Chinese places. From this first time experience, I have a lot of faith in their main dishes. I got the beef with vegetables, and it's absolutely delicious. I'm definitely eager to try more of their main dishes. I'll come back and possibly edit my review after more experience with the food. Ever so often, you get a craving for some Chinese take out. Surprisingly, Tampa has a plethora of different take out locations. After shopping through a few of them, I have finally found my favorite: Jade Garden. Now, each of these locations pretty much offer the same menu. Sometimes, I feel like they're all owned by one person because of how freakishly similar they are. The prices are also exactly the same as well. However, Jade Garden has the best quality of food...well on the standard of Chinese take out. The portion sizes are quite large and the food always tastes pretty fresh. Personally, I would come here more often if my diet would allow it. The service is pretty quick too. If you call ahead and order it over the phone, the food is usually ready by the time you drive over. Plus, the people there are hella nice to you too. This place also earned another place in my heart because it was one of the only places open on Easter Sunday #noncatholicstruggles. PS. This is our go to Chinese Restaurant and has been for years. I love the General Tso's and the food is pretty consistent. They also have "deals" so if you spend $25 or more you get a bonus appetizer (spring rolls are good). They also let me sub out chicken fried rice instead of the pork fried rice. They're fast and friendly! My one complaint is that I'm not a huge fan of their egg rolls, but they're not bad.
