I have been here a few times via Uber Eats where I ordered and picked it up myself. Very nice staff very attentive and super friendly. This time I decided to dine in. I was greeted upon entering and seated at a table immediately -- it took a few minutes for someone to come by my table and take an order, but they answered all of my questions. My order consisted of: 1. Unsweetened iced tea. Likely from the soda fountain but decent. 2. Pork dumplings. Served hot and steamed. The pork is well seasoned and very tasty. . 3. Duck noodle soup, ordered for an egg allergy and not spicy. So let's talk about this duck soup. First of all the broth is not that salty, but has a lot of good flavor. The noodles are perfectly cooked and the vegetables are fresh! The duck is is very very good. Some may find the duck is not tender enough however I really happen to like it. One thing other folks may not like is the fact that the duck comes partially on the bone. At least you know it's freshl! If you order this, make sure to take your time with the pieces of duck! Family owned and operated this place is one of the best Chinese noodle spots in the college area of Tampa. It's run by a lovely couple and they're always friendly and inviting. It's also nice because they explained the menu options a lot more thoroughly if you are a first timer. I prefer to order the braised beef noodle with the thin or flat noodles. I prefer big pieces of juicy fatty pork belly to the tiny little lean cubed pork here. Our mains were both showstoppers. Came in around 12:30 on a Saturday and was able to be seated immediately. We were a table of 7 and our party (3) arrived to secure a table before our other 4 guests arrived. May have been attributed to the other large party however it was even hard to get a drink refill. We had to walk up to the register area to ask for refills. While we waited we ordered the soup dumplings which comes with 8 pc. This was the first time ever having and wow were they so delicious! They were fresh and juicy! Highly recommend these. For lunch entrees we ordered the chicken stir fry hand noodle (daughter), braised beef noodle (hubs) and the chicken ma la pot (me). The food took forever to come out but when it did, it was hot and fresh and delicious! I absolutely loved my ma la pot. I ordered not spicy and with no mushrooms or fungus. The veggies were so tender and the sauce was amazing. Daughter loved her noodle dish also. Hubs wasn't that crazy about his soup and I thought it was ok. Everything seemed quite mediocre for me here. First we had soup dumplings, two lamb skewers and a beef burger. Love my soup dumplings from Trader Joe's. I thought this would be much better since it's coming from a restaurant. Nope. Only good thing is now I know my husband likes it for future reference. Although if you never had Chinese food in a bigger city nor Asia, then I can see how it is popular with that population. I ordered some appetizers of: 1) beef & cilantro: this was pretty decent 2) pan fried dumplings: pretty sure it's from the frozen aisle from the supermarkets 3) soup dumplings: where's the soup. I should have known when it doesn't even come with a soup spoon. My entrée was braised beef with flat noodles. The noodles were falling apart and beef were over cooked. It had beef, chicken and shrimp and you can get it levels of spicy I had a medium spicy and it was nice, flavorful not overpowering. For appetizers we had the shumai, the shredded potatoes, and the cucumber salad. One of the people I was with had the steam pot which had lots of vegetables and whatever meat/seafood you wanted in it with rice on the side a nice meal for sure. Would definitely recommend. We had an appointment near USF & were excited to try Lan Zhou Lamen (LZL). It has good reviews on Yelp & I've noted that the different ethnic food choices near USF have been excellent. LZL fell into that category of excellence. I ordered Beef Stir-Fry Handmade Noodles. This version of Beef Lo Mein was one of the best I've tasted. Each layer of flavor in the dish was at a perfect level. Instead of one flavor being over-bearing, all were in a brilliant balance. The sesame oil was subtle...the red chili flakes delivered pleasant flavor & a tiny bit of heat...the noodles were fresh & cooked with precision...the beef resembled thin strips of lean roast beef...& the small veggies offered great texture. My family and I randomly stumbled into this eatery on a Monday evening--we were not disappointed. My toddlers had the chicken stir fry my hubby ordered the shrimp stir fry and I got the crispy pork chop rice bowl. For appetizers we got the shrimp skewers, beef skewers (we didn't care for) and spring rolls. All of our entrees we hot, fresh and flavorful. The workers were very nice and accommodating the place was clean with a mellow atmosphere--JUST DON'T GO IN THE BATHROOM. The toilet was clogged and did not flush, and the rest you can imagine...it seemed to be the only place they left unkept. Other than that 9/10. My hubby and I both agreed we would come back and try something else. TIP: If you are unsure of what to order on the menu, they have a digital screen by the register that shows a picture of what each dish looks like. I grabbed takeout from here, so knowing that I drove 30 minutes home and the noodles were still amazing is incredible. I tried a variety of things so now I know what I should and shouldn't order to have the best experience. Braised Beef Rice Bowl - Pass. The sauce was good, but I find the beef to be a bit tough. The reason I love this place is for the noodles so anything without the noodles is a no go in the future for me. Roast Duck Lanzhou Noodles - Get. The duck was amazing and fatty. The noodles are the best thing on the menu. The broth wasn't too salty and really contributed to the dish overall. If they had a duck hand pulled noodle dish I would get that every time, but alas they don't. Beef Stir-Fry Hand Noodles - Get. If it's between this and the Lanzhou Noodles I have to weigh this one slightly above. I love the noodles. Like I mentioned before, the beef is a little tough, but the noodles make up for it. Beef and Chicken Skewers - Pass. They were tough and slightly spicy (I don't like spicy). I asked for it to not be spicy, so that was probably their attempt as making it mild. On the menu you can see the fire sign next to it. I would definitely recommend coming here. I see on their menu they have an option for extra duck and extra braised egg. I should attempt to get the Beef Stir Fry Hand Noodles with extra duck (can I do that if it had no duck to begin with?) and extra braised egg. But if they don't allow that, then future Christina, go with the Roast Duck Lanzhou Noodles with extra duck, extra braised egg. You're welcome. read more
