Worst haircut I have had in my adult life. (When I was little, my mom decided for me, and there were some not-so-good moments there haha). Lady did not listen to what I said and just hacked at my hair. When shampooing her nails scratched too much on my scalp, when cutting, she barely paid attention and just cut huge chunks off and talked loudly in my ear to her friend in Vietnamese. Never go into a hair salon and proclaim that you want your hair cut short. Short to you may not be short to them. I'm sitting there with my palms sweating hoping that she would just STOP CUTTING. Every time I thought she was through, those god awful scissors would magically appear in her hands again and she just kept going and going and going (the energizer bunny got nothing on her). I hate to write a good review for a place like a hair salon....why? Cause it sucks to have wait for a haircut, thus the less popular the place, the shortest the wait. But this is the BEST...I SAID BEST hair salon (for mens at least) I have ever been to. And not writing them the highest 5 star review would be defeating the purpose to what Yelp is for. As a guy, $15 haircuts are what we like (assuming you can still find them around). Cheap, quick, and you'll get it cut again in about 2-3 weeks anyways. In my life, I've been to a few $50 men's haircut places (usually out of desperation), and this place beats them all silly...for 15 bucks! BTW, this includes a shampoo! Ya, so this place isn't in a swanky location where I've gotten my pricey haircuts before, but that's OK. I'm there to get my hair cut...not really there for the "ambiance". Unlike terrible places like SuperCuts, where for $20 they give you 5 minutes, and what they can cut in 5 minutes is your haircut, PERIOD, whether you think they're done on not. This place is different! The time, the quality, the effort, the value....c'mon, you can't beat this place. I'm new to Asian neighborhoods, so not sure if this is typical of their prices or quality, but I'm impressed. BTW, I've been here 3 times or so. It's your typical Asian neighborhood establishment, i.e. they don't speak much English here. They'll talk to each other when they're working in Chinese and Vietnamese...then switch over to their broken English to speak to you. Greatest thing is they haven't the slightest clue that I'm also Vietnamese and understand absolutely everything they're gossiping about! It's actually kind of funny though. For most of my life, my mom has been doing my hair. Recently, i decided that I wanted a short cut and that required more skills than my mom had. I went to Jade's and asked her for her advice. I wanted the asymmetrical bob (the Rihanna bob), but was nervous that the short do would make me look even younger than I do now. She reassured me that it'll make me look a little older and she wont cut off too much just to see how it'll look. She saw that I was hesitant and just went for it. Before I knew it, I had a short haircut, and i'm glad she didnt let me linger too much. I've already come so far and was sitting in the salon chair already. I was very satisfied with the cut, until I went back 3 months later to get my hair trimmed when another woman made a more drastic cut. Half of my hair is red, and she strategically cut it so the back showed the layer of red. I LOVED it. I've gotten a lot of compliments for my cut and my hair color. I've been back one more time after that, before Lunar New Year and expected the place to be packed, but it wasnt. I didnt have to wait long to get my cut. The hair cuts have been consistent so far. The hair dressers are all very nice. They talk to you more if you understand Cantonese. A very fun group. read more

I used to like coming here the first 3 visits I made when I desperately needed my bangs trimmed and my hair relayered. But today I had the worse hair cut and I was really disappointed. It was from the only male hair dresser there. I made sure to tell him I wanted to keep my hair length and repeated it twice to make sure. However, he cut of 4 inches (yes its a huge difference) and gave me the most hideous layers that I did not ask for. I would have said something in the beginning but the damage had already been done. This is the 2nd time I've been disappointed with this place and I will not be returning. My scalp & neck is very sore from the intense scratches. I am writing this because I can see my mom getting not-so-happy here as she sits idling in her seat. I take mom here to get her hair cut and permed once in a while. The first hour and a half usually goes well - haircut & perming process. After she gets her hair washed, they seated her in one of the salon's chair and have her wait for at least half an hour or so before someone (usually Jade herself) can come over and chop up my mom's hair a bit and dry it. It doesn't make sense to me that they rather let my mom wait meanwhile help customers who just arrived. Three stars because my mom likes her hair permed here... ugh, the extra wait is ridiculous as the perm itself already takes forever! Definitely one of the best places to get a haircut (for Asians especially) in Oakland. I never actually had Jade do my hair but she's super nice! Her staffs are okay, they do talk a lot in Vietnamese or Chinese but I've never heard them say anything rude about their customers. Make sure you tell them clearly what you want and ask questions! I am a really big fan of the owner Jade. She deserves a five, but i've been here plenty of times and had horrible outcomes, so from now on, I am requesting Jade to cut my hair. the first time I had it cut by jade it was wonderful, the layers came out unbelievable like magic, they flow down so swiftly and in just the right amount of layers. i absolutely loved it! and it was only 20$! I then had my haircut by another lady who does okay with layers, not as wonderful but still decent, but the last time I went there, there was this young lady who I assumed to know fashion well, but my assumption was completely wrong. In this salon, you should really pay attention to your stylist's hair bc they will cut your hair exactly the same as theirs. It was that fobby haircut right out out of asia, that one really short layer and then the others just look horendous, it was so awful that she even curled it without even asking me. It looked really nice with curls, but its too bad I don't curl it everyday. I've been through so many of their stylists who are lower than mediocre, I am surprised that someone of Jade's talent hires them to degrade her store, that is what kept me away for a while, but the next haircut I will be having is at Jades with her, and only her. read more

Just got my lash extensions here and loved it! Don't let the small interior of the salon fool you, this place is a hidden gem. The salon ladies are so sweet and helpful, & Wendy is so meticulous with her lash service! My lashes are so soft, fluttery, and natural looking. Also, when I texted her after my appointment saying that I wanted my lashes to be slightly more voluminous she immediately told me I could come in the next day free of charge and get them touched up. My mom and my aunt both know Jade, and I only have her cut my hair. She does such an awesome job on my hair, I completely trust her to do what she wants. I must say that she is the BEST at cutting "swoopy bangs." haha. I love them so much, that I have brought my friends there, and they come from San Leandro and Union City to get their hair cut by Jade. ( There are a few other girls that cut well, but I don't know their names, and I don't have them cut my hair...) I have brought my husband as well, and Jade is the only one that cuts his hair now! She does it so perfectly, and she pays attention to the details of cutting his head because he has a "unique" shaped head. :) Jade also did my hair, my mom's hair, and my sister in law's hair for my wedding, and she did the perfectest job ever. I showed her a picture of what I wanted, and she went above and beyond what I had expected. She didn't even use a rubber band! My hair stayed in the same position from when she finished at 9am, to 1am the next day! Now that is some HARD core hair spray! I didn't even have to touch it up at all!!! The best part I must say is the hair washing... OMG. they massage the heck out of your head for like 10-15 mins!!! And they have nails so they scratch it too... oohhh it feels so good! haha. To top that, they blow dry, flat iron and use the BioSilkk stuff on your hair with NO extra charge :) I love it. Total price: $19!! Jade is a great person, my mom and I have been going to her salon for over 9-10 years now. She does great with the color, and I am always satisfied with the way she cuts my hair. Recently I got short layers and purple highlights around my crown. I've had the color for 2 1/2 weeks already and it is still vibrant! hardly any fading!!! I am always getting compliments and people always ask me where I get my hair done, same with my mom. Her prices are reasonable and her staff is friendly. The only thing I don't really like is that on a busy day she tends to skip from customer to customer and you may be in there longer than you want to be, which is why I took one star off. Now that my short A-line bob has grown into a lob (long bob), I needed something to do to adjust the look since I'm trying to grow it out. I decided I wanted to go with an ombre dye. Jade wasn't there yesterday but I decided to go on since there wasn't any sort of wait. The ladies were on point! They spent a good two hours on me making sure the dye was on evenly. I always go to Jade's because she can make any hairdo happen! Every time I want to change my haircut, I just show her a picture and she knows exactly what to do to recreate it perfectly. I've had haircuts, hair dyes, and hair oil treatments here, and the best thing to do is to request Jade to do your hair because she actually listens to what you say (and doesn't cut it too short, unlike some other people!) Please stay away from the lady with a purple streak on her hair. She doesn't know what she's doing. I have been coming here to cut my hair for almost 10 years...I've had a few that I didn't like but that was because they were newbies. But ever since I started requesting for this one lady to cut it for me, every single time I go I have not regret cutting my hair. She is very good and knows and listens to how I want it cut. She pays attention to the detailing after she cuts and blow dries and straightens it. If she's not there I'll just come back another time. The ladies that washes my hair are always really good, it's always so relaxing and they have the perfect water temperature and I love the flow of the faucet. They will have small talk with the regulars there or co-workers and their conversations are always entertaining to listen to. I just got my haircut, the owner (Jade) did WONDERS for me! The hairwash+scalp massage+cut+blowout+flat-iron was done under an hour for only $21+tip! This was a mere fraction of the price I paid at the upscale Japanese salon (Arty) in SF which charged me extra for my long hair, AND it looked better too! When I came in, I had about 30 pictures of different hairstyles that I wanted to show her. Instead, all I ended up doing was saying, "I want layers like yours!" and showed her a picture with different bangs. During the process, I asked her who cut her hair (she must have been 40-50 years old, but her hair looked SO healthy, gorgeous, and stylish) and she said she did it herself. She was also rocking a very chic purple highlight near her bangs. I may return to ask her to do one for me but in pink! Also, today was a Saturday, and we all know how busy things get on the weekends. I called to make an appointment, but they told me to just come right on in because they weren't busy. When I came, I realized that they weren't busy because there were 4-6 stylists and they all worked VERY quickly to get people in and out! During my time there, I also noticed that it is a very kid-friendly place, as multiple parents brought their kids in to get cuts. I had some much bleeding into my roots, the highlights length, size and color was way off. It did not even look close to the picture I had shown her.
