A long overdue review! I've been going to Ling and Eddie for years to get my hair done. Love going to them when I'm looking to try a new hairstyle or cut. My most recent trip, I wanted to do a more vibrant color with my hair since I'm working from home for the next few months. I sent a few pictures in advance of my appointment to ensure they had the right color. It wasn't my first time dying my hair but it was the first time going this extreme and I have to say, I LOVE IT! After all these years of coming here for a cut, I decided to try my first balayage coloring. Ling did an incredible job. I'm obsessed with the results! I went for a mixed auburn brown tone for my hair that I've grown out for nearly a year. Ling first gave my hair a light trim and layering before applying any color. Then she meticulously covered each layer with creme coloring, alternating between a mohogany and a lighter brown. It did take a while for the color to absorb cause of the dark hair (almost 3 hours), but the time was worth it. Following the wash and dry, I could definitely see the shades of each color blended beautifully into each layer upon layer. I'm so happy I finally got around to trying the balayage :) Will keep coming back for all my cuts and coloring! read more

I had an appointment with Mrs. Siu who owns the salon. She is AMAZING. I showed her an image of what I wanted: hair cut short (all the same length) and ashy brown balayage. I got that for the most part, I just have to come back because my hair was way too orange from the previous dye job I got at another salon that we couldn't necessarily accomplish what I wanted in one session. That's okay. She got rid of 90% of the brassy hair I was rockin so I'm so happy with the outcome. She was very patient with me as it took 6 hours to deal with my crazy thick and curly hair. Hard to imagine that after bleach and toning, I left the salon with softer and healthier hair. Let me just say the shop is really well kept and clean. The staff is attentive and friendly, as so are their customers. I will definitely come back in a few weeks to tone my hair again so we can accomplish that ashy brown I've been aiming for. read more

Ling is the only person I allow to cut my hair. My mom used to cut it for me because shes a hair dresser, but she moved to Hawaii and since then I have had bad haircuts. I feel so lucky to have found Ling because she's amazing! She listens to me and what I want, and she tells me if what I want will not look good for my face shape, which I super appreciate. I stopped by as a walk in because I noticed they had threading at this salon. I had not find anyone to thread my eyebrows in Alameda yet. Kalpana cleaned up my eyebrows nicely and she did my waxing. I was happy to find somewhere to get both things done. I LOVE this salon. I always leave with the layers I want and a price I can afford. It's not cheap, but for half the price of some of the more "upscale" salons I've been to, I get a better quality cut from a stylist that consistently LISTENS to my requests and ACTUALLY FULFILLS them. On slower days, I might even get a free wash or or get my hair straightened/curled after it's cut. On top of the great price and service, I keep coming back because Eddie can achieve the Asian-style layered looks I prefer--something that generic chain salons of the same price range don't really understand. :) The only minor downside about going here (and because it's minor I won't dock any stars for it) is that it's a cash-only joint. For those who forget, there's an ATM that'll gladly charge you annoying service fees just outside at the nearby bank. read more

Hair cut was mediocre Hair highlights were the worst I have ever had. I asked for a light honey blonde highlights and what I received was orange ugliness. Highlights were not consistent in color either. My portion of highlighted hair is fryed They still charged me full price They said if I want to come back they'd fix my poor excuse of a highlight job. Called in and made a last minute appointment for a hair cut. I rarely have time to go to the salon so when I do I need a great haircut from some one who will not chop off all my hair because of my lack of getting trim every 3-5 months. Came in at my scheduled time, and was out of the place 45 minutes. The man ( I think it was the owner) who cut my hair took his time and listened to everything I wanted. I am asian and I have really difficult to cut hair. It sticks out all over the place and I have two cowlicks on the sides of my head that can't be tamed. So when I find a good place, I stick to it! Eddy is the guy in the picture and he's my stylist. He spends a lot of time on my hair and uses actual scissors to cut! Imagine that! Most I've been to just whip out the trimmers and they're done inside of 5 minutes, with ill results. Eddy is very precise and takes his time and I've yet to walk away unsatisfied. I have been uncertain about what to do with my hair-it's been pretty short and I was bored.
