January is Tamil Heritage Month, and this is a spot you need to try comfort Tamil food. It's so convenient to have a centrally located Tamil food spot in downtown Toronto that brings authentic flavors right to the heart of the city. What I love most is the wide range of spice levels, catering to all preferences, as well as the creative fusion items alongside traditional Tamil dishes. I have tried the mutton kothu roti, kopi (coffee) and jaffna fries here so far and all are filled with rich, bold flavours. Next time, I'm planning to try the breakfast items, which are harder to find in most establishments. For those unfamiliar with Jaffna street food, this place truly captures its essence. The street food culture of Jaffna is known for its bold spices, fresh ingredients, and satisfying snacks, and this restaurant brings that authentic vibe right to the table. It's super close to St. Patrick Station, and there's ample parking nearby, making it easy to stop by whenever you're in the area.

I tried the kothu roti and mutton rolls. Both were serviceable for Downtown Toronto, but I'm told the best and most authentic Sri Lankan food is actually in burbs like Scarborough. The kothu roti in particular felt really dry, and the mutton roll could've used more mutton (vs potato). Could still be worth a try if you're craving Sri Lankan while Downtown though!

Jaffna Street Food located in the food court at the Village on the Grange serves up Tamil food to the streets of Toronto. Making Tamil food more accessible to the city, they serve a modern take on classic kothu roti, wraps and rice bowls which can be customizable based on your preference. They open in the morning for breakfast where they have several breakfast items as well as lunch and dinner where they serve bowls, wraps, and fusion items (poutine, fries, etc.). There are also snacks available as well throughout the day like chicken patties, mutton rolls, and chicken rolls. I stopped by Jaffna Street Food on a weekend (yes! they are open on both Sat and Sun) to grab a rice bowl and a tropical mango shake (ripe mangoes, coconut milk, and a hint of vanilla). For my bowl I opted for the chicken kari as my protein and added rice as a base as well as red onions, parippu (lentils), beet root, tomato sambal, coconut sambal (the spiciest sambal they have out of the three!), half an egg, cucumber, and appalam. My bowl and shake were made at a reasonable time. Service was friendly and quick. I rarely eat Tamil food so they were happy to answer any questions for me regarding the food. Health care workers and students also get a 10% discount if you show your ID as well! Food wise, the rice bowl was delicious. The chicken kari were the right amount of spices where all the ingredients I chose worked well together. The coconut sambal was spicy but nothing I couldn't handle. The bowl is a good portion if you are hungry. The mango shake was a bit sweet for me but I enjoyed drinking it. Overall, a great new fast food place in the Village on the Grange food court for some delicious Jaffna street food!

The I Heart Butter Tart Concrete ($6.49) that I ordered was a little too much for myself. I did decide to go through and finish the ice cream / sundae just so I don't have anything to go. The interior of the place was properly though out and well designed. Self order stations are available to order from and the ordering interface is one of the better systems I have seen. When I dined in early afternoon on a weekday it was a rather slow day. There were a couple of Shake Shack employees constantly roaming about the premises ready to attend to any customer request. 1 such employee was thoughtful enough to serve me and a group of other customers some water. I have mixed feelings about the bathroom setup. Yes, it is clean and there were a few toilet rooms available, but it requires a code to be entered prior to using. The door screen shows as vacant but an employee still needs to give out the 4 digit code needed to access the toilets. I also found some issues with the water faucet sensors. It is inconsistently picking up my gestures resulting in an unreliable and unsteady flow of running water when I was washing my hands.

I couldn't let the opportunity pass. The dining space? Bright, clean, inviting. Modern but casual. Off to a genuinely good start. And then... things went south. I ordered the peri-peri chicken with two sides. The wait was excruciating. Not just long--confusing. Every single person who ordered after me was eating while I sat there wondering if my ticket got lost in another country. When the chicken finally arrived, I was stunned--and not in a good way. Easily the smallest leg/thigh combo I've ever seen. Yes, I'm used to USA-sized, GMO-filled chickens, but I've eaten plenty overseas. This wasn't "European portioning." This was kiddie-sized. Flavor? Underwhelming. Forgettable. Nothing that made me pause, nothing that lingered. For a place built on peri-peri heat and personality, this was shockingly flat. I can get chicken with more punch at my local Grocery & Go. The mac and cheese had decent texture--the breadcrumbs did their job--but flavor-wise? Completely bland. Zero soul. The fries? Although well seasoned, we're like warm. Overhyped things rarely deliver, and Nando's sadly fits the bill. Massive disappointment is the phrase that keeps coming to mind

Had the chicken with a fried egg on rice (substituted for pork, though) - ca. 15.99 on menu. It was just as great and even better than some other vietnamese restos (pickled carrots and turnips were sweet and tart! :)). Quick to serve and just what I was expecting. The one guy serving the entire dining room (ponytail and arm tats and piercings) is the reason I'm writing this review. He was accommodating and super friendly and went out of his way for me more than couple of times in my one visit. I really appreciated him. Thank you, whoever you are! The ambiance was good - it felt comfortable, clean and friendly. The set up was a bit weird on first glance: sit, scan, and the order is served out to you (they also have take-out). The condiments were self-serve - the small containers to put sauces in made it hard to put it on your food though. I waited for 3 people to come and go at the station before I even attempted to get my hoisin and hot sauce. Individual bottles at the table would be better. More seating needed for sure! Overall, this was a good resto for a quick vietnamese food. Glad I stopped in. Hope they stick around for the long haul.

This location is a full restaurant with plenty of indoor seating. There is easy-listening music playing in the background. I ordered the following: 1. Signature Poutine with Beef ($9.99). 2. Plum Cold Brew ($3.99). I've never had the Poutine before. It was good. I've had the Plum Cold Brew before and it was like I remembered. This restaurant chain introduced the "Chinese Hamburger" in a crispy bun to Toronto back in 2021-05-23 (soft opening). Very tasty indeed! Plus, they have a wide variety of appetizers. The two owners are from China. The brand was founded in Beijing on 2014-04-08 and now has over 65 locations in Beijing. The Chinese Hamburger is called Rou Jia Mo (肉夹馍) in Chinese, which literally translates to "meat in a bun". It is the cuisine of China's Shaanxi province, which has the capital city of Xi'An (or Xian), where you find the terracotta warriors. For Chinese hamburgers, there are two types of buns: crispy and non-crispy. Most restaurants use the non-crispy buns but Bingz is the only restaurant in the GTA that uses the baked crispy buns. There is free WiFi. The restaurant wheelchair accessible. There is one gender-neutral washrooms, which is also wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2025-244
