Came here on a rainy Sunday about 12:30. We got one of the last tables. As usual very busy and people were waiting for tables. We brought a friend with us who has never been here before. She ordered an omelette and toast but she didn't realize potatoes don't come with it. So after the food came out she ordered a side of potatoes. They took forever to come out. So normally a diner would have hash browns and home fries already on the griddle but this place seems to put them on the griddle made to order which is probably why this place is always packed. On the other hand the food was great. I had my waffle with butter and their house made strawberry jam. I also ordered a half order of their biscuits and gravy. That was better than expected. The biscuit was soft and flaky and the gravy had the most meat in it that I've ever had. Bacon wasn't as crispy as last time but still great. Bacon can't go wrong. Especially deep fried bacon. My son had the chicken tenders and fries. I assumed the fries were meh because he didn't finish them. The chicken tenders were pretty good. Besides a few French fries we all finished all of our food. Service was ok. Had some moments when we were trying to get her attention for a bit but like I said it was a full house in there. Those cute one of a kind bird houses are for sale so make sure to purchase the one you have your eye on. A couple bought two of them while we were there. Great breakfast - worth the wait on a Sunday but there is no "hurry" in any of the staff. There were people waiting to be seated continuously, yet clearing tables was not a priority. Maybe they were short staffed? I had the French toast with real maple syrup and a side of scrambled eggs. Hubby had eggs, hashbrowns & bacon and a delicious cinnamon roll when he was done. Stopped by for breakfast after spending the previous day at Foxwoods Casino. Small cozy diner- friendly staff. My eyes were bigger than my stomach- I knew I had to have the grilled cinnamon roll (yum) but I couldn't pass up the sausage biscuits and gravy (that came with 2 eggs and potatoes). $20 later I had a large spread of food. Everything was cooked perfectly. Many locals- a few visitors like me. Could miss it if you weren't looking- attached to the package store (aka liquor store) next to the Mobil gas station. read more

Found this restaurant on a quick overnight in CT, it's attached to the local package store so it's easy to miss. Jakes serves breakfast & lunch. Open till 2:00 daily, serving homemade food. Restaurant is small and gets busy but staff is very friendly and knows the locals. Prices are reasonable and portions are great. Looking forward to going back and trying a few other menu items. After a trip to Foxwoods we stopped here for breakfast. Did not disappoint! Gracie was a great waitress, even noticing our ice coffee needed more ice. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious. Before we went home, we wanted breakfast Sunday morning after a night at Foxwoods. The four of us arrived around 9 a.m. and were seated right away. It seemed like we got there at the perfect time because about 10 minutes later, we could see a line forming waiting for tables. The inside is small but clean and well-spreadfive out, so you don't feel like you are sitting super close to other people. Our table got blueberry pancakes, (homemade) hash and eggs, biscuits and gravy, and a turkey club sandwich for food. The pancakes were the best on the table, fluffy, fresh berries, and a huge portion. The sausage gravy was more sausage than gravy, but the biscuit was homemade. The hash wasn't very flavorful and had huge potato pieces in it. The toast came with a side of homemade jam. We opted for the Mango, which I had never tried before, but it was great! I didn't try the turkey club, but my friend said she enjoyed it. Its not 5 stars..but they arent trying to be either, its a great place to stop when you are heading to Foxwoods. We wanted to try here bc we've seen good reviews BUT.... We saw rat droppings on the plates when we had asked for some extra plates for the kiddos..... EVERYTHING DOWN TO THE TOAST I kid you not absolutely everything we ordered here was amazing. The corned beef hash was tender and delicious, the biscuits and gravy were the perfect ratio and the gravy was amazing. My favorite part and a must order was the homestyle potatoes. Absolutely fire- they were hot and crunchy and flavorful. Even the toast with homemade blueberry jam would have me crawling back to this gem. We also tacked on an order of the cinnamon roll and i swear my heart grew two sizes. Last thing, it's a local breakfast place and it's small so expect a line in the morning but I swear the ladies here are turning those tables quickly. Solid diner with a few real highlights. Friendly staff in a very no frills atmosphere. We sat at the counter since ,ost of the tables had families who needed the seats. Great breakfast all around but two call outs. First, the corned beef hash was amazing. Fresh roasted corned beef and potatoes, and very heavy on the beef! Everything was well-seasoned and the chef goes above and beyond--even making homemade jam! Thankfully, you can buy a jar for $10 to take home with you. They have strawberry, blueberry and mango. The staff is very friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is very clean and bright. Even the bathrooms are well-kept. They have unique birdhouses on a tall cabinet for sale at reasonable prices. It came with a side of hash. My wife got the eh-vah omelette which was made with homemade corn beef hash and potato. My son got the evah eggs n hash which came with 2 eggs, corn been hash, and toast. The star of the dishes for them was the corn beef hash as mmm it hit the spot. Overall, the food is no frill but pack great flavor for diner food. A fantastic spot for some amazing breakfast! I was in the area for a road race, the No Sto Defeats MSA 5K, just up the street. After a wet, early morning run, I was starving. Jake's was on my way back through to get home and I was sold on the reviews for the waffle. Being a Saturday, it was busy, so I waited a few minutes for a table. Always worth it though if you know it's going to be good! To reward myself I ordered the house made hash and of course the waffle. I included pictures so you could see the legit-ness of this hash. I have seen "homemade" thrown on the menu many a time and it being a stretch or an outright lie. This hash was just gorgeous, refreshing, and of course tasty. The ginger waffle was also everything I wanted it to be. Crispy and the perfect balance of sweet treat with that little bit of gingerbread "tang. My food came out quickly as well considering the craftsmanship and the crowd. My server's name was Gracie. She was very nice and asked me about my race and my shoes! She is a hardcore marathoner! She has run several and was considering which one to do next! Very kind and some great stories and accomplishments to share. If you see her, be sure to ask her about her next race or her last one. She is awesome. An all around perfect breakfast experience in my eyes. It is not a short drive for me for breakfast, so I do not get out there as often as I would like. No star Let me mention I have been a waitress for 10+ years I have a 1 hour lunch break I showed up because all the other restaurants are closed on Mondays except the Dunkin' Donuts near by or I could have risked a stomach ache and gotten the chicken and Jojos from the gas station but I chose to waste my break at jakes not even a full dining room, the woman says " i cant just put a scoop of tuna in a togo cup, everyone else needs to be served first, its first come first serve. All I had was a 50 and she would have gotten all the change. Word of mouth is important. And today Jake's place failed me. I had no idea a scoop or 2 of tuna in a to go container was so difficult.
