OK, you're driving down Topanga Canyon from Malibu. It's a two lane road. And you could easily pass Jalan Jalan Imports. But if you catch a glimpse of the sign at just the right time and make a sharp turn left, ideally missing the demonic oncoming traffic, you're there. Technically this plot of land is shared by Jalan Jalan Imports and Topanga Rocks. Topanga Rocks, I could take or leave. Jalan Jalan on the other hand... So, what is this place? Good question. What you are about to see on this lot are an enormous number of Balinese statues. Mostly Ganesha and Siddhartha Buddha, but also some apsaras (celestial nymphs) and a few other members of the Hindu and Buddhist pantheons. Many of the statues are very beautiful. But with few exceptions they are carved from stone and are 1) very big, 2) very expensive. The only people who would normally buy these are either New Age types that want a statue at the end of their heated pool (these statues are clearly designed to be outside) or perhaps a very devout Buddhist or Hindu who saved a month's salary to have a giant murti (form of a god) for inside their home So, why are we here? Well, you might want to spend 10 or 15 minutes looking at the statues (they are very pretty), but soon your eyes will wander. And then you'll see it: Owl Falls. Owl Falls is an incredibly picturesque waterfall. It is not a heavy stream, but it is continuous and beautiful. You can wade into the water. You can sit on the rocks. Or you can just watch it and contemplate existence for fifteen minutes. It's an incredibly peaceful and lovely place. You may want to explore a little more before you leave. If you go up the stairs toward the...geodesic dome/hut...thing, you will find a Balinese Hindu Shrine. Every time I've visited, it is covered with cash, coins from all over the world, pieces of jewelry and little pieces of paper (prayer requests, I assume). It is pretty damn cool. So, in conclusion: are the statues for sale cool? Yes. But is going to Jalan Jalan Imports merely an excuse for visiting the gorgeous waterfall and exploring the traditions of other cultures? A great little gem in the middle of Highway 27. I passed by Jalan Jalan on the way to Malibu when I was passing by Topanga. I am so glad I did. They have amazing Buddha statues, oriental chairs and many other Asia inspired gifts. They also have a temple and a gorgeous mini waterfall. Make sure you visit the store - Topanga Rocks as well. They're located next to historic Owl Falls, a continual 3-story spring fed waterfall that served as a primary drinking source and important gathering place for the area's indigenous population for thousands of years. One day I truly hope to be able to own multiple pieces from this beautiful collection of work and display it in a nice home. All the benches, tables, statues, and everything in between are clearly handcrafted and well made, and most look very weatherproof as well. The space itself holds a very distinct and grounding charge that no doubt has to be in part from the concentration of large, and clearly valuable crystal pieces that are placed throughout the area. As soon as you enter the space you can definitely feel the charge of all the magnificent crystal pieces basking in the sun, and even if you aren't fully in touch with your spiritual body you'll definitely be impressed by the selection of crystal pieces that they have available. I'm not sure if Topanga Rocks and Jalan Jalan work hand in hand with each other-- it would seem so since the space shares both crystals and wood-workings, but either way the partnering of wood and crystal only help to enhance the powerful charge that comes not only from the crystals, but from the beautiful waterfall, Owl Falls, in the back of the space. If you need a space to disappear for just a little bit without too much of a strain on your body, Owl Falls is a perfect hidden waterfall where you can take a second to zone out. When I last went (6/1/22) the waterfall itself was no longer as accessible as a lot of pictures had shown, with people sitting basically on the shore of the waterfall. The water has gotten a bit murky and the area by it does not look accessible anymore, but there are a couple nice sitting areas around the falls where you can still admire the beauty of the hidden spring. Love coming back here to reset after going to the beach, or even after a fun day in Topanga Town. read more

Located at Owl's Fall, this place is worthy of a visit even if you have no intentions of buying anything Balinese. If you have not seen any Balinese carvings and art this would also be the place to spent some time. The inventory is always changing so sometimes it is better and other times not so great. The large stone carvings are costly but the smaller items are more affordable, so there is a range but you can come here just to soak in the tranquil Topanga vibes. If you can't go to Bali, Bali has come to you. So drop in for that little piece of Bali in Topanga. read more

It is a nice place to do some looking. It has a beautiful natural waterfall in the back...and a little bench to sit on where dragonflies flutter around. They sell statues and benches of all shapes and sizes. They have some beautiful large and very expensive specimens of crystals outside and their store on the inside had some crystals (a little overpriced but some nice ones that I have not seen anywhere else). They also sell what appears to be locally made jewelry. It is a nice stop after you have lunched or done some hiking. read more

Stopped by Jalan Jalan after spending a beautiful day at Topanga State Beach. Even though Jalan is on a very busy Topanga Canyon Blvd with cars topping 40mph in both directions, there is a calm and serene feeling that overcomes you when stepping though the gates. There are many beautiful statues, benches, and other art throughout the property. My favorite is the Northwest corner, which features a small waterfall and pond. I wish this was my backyard. Even with the sale prices, I didn't purchase any of the beautiful crystals that caught my eye or the beautiful hand carved buddhas. I will definitely be back as we come through Topanga quite often. read more

The hubby and I, took a day trip on Saturday, to explore our new state and picked the path through Topanga Canyon to Malibu. It was the BEST day! We stopped at this gem to browse and were very impressed with multiple things but I will sum it up with two items: 1) the selection 2) the service This place, was by far the "rose" of our day trip exploring. By just visiting the location and browsing, they share with you an experience. We even had the experience of the waterfall and the protection area above the steps and sanctuary. By visiting you gain an experience into a culture, belief, and way of life. We had the pleasure of meeting the owners and hearing the story behind two pine chairs that were remade and refinished. How amazing is it when you get to hear the story and intent behind a item of sale? Isn't that what life is?-A collection of stories/events/purchase of treasured items/experiences that you encounter? Feng shui is a challenge when you live in the valley and can't find quality items! Yesterday I made it a point to check out Jalan Jalan Imports - must have driven past it a thousand times on my way to the beach. I guess you don't notice something until you're looking for it. Anyway, I'm SO grateful for this place!!! It is GORGEOUS, the staff is amazingly friendly, the prices are very competitive, and they have great stuff from all over the world. Seriously, I would bring my lunch there to just eat it and take in the ambience of the natural waterfall on the property. DO take the time to visit this hidden Topanga jem. Jalan Jalan's main product is carved wood furniture, which we admired, and (if our house actually had any space left in it) definitely would have bought. I have bought many items from Jalan Jalan over the years. Their staff is always incredibly helpful and imports the best quality statues, furniture, rugs and art from Bali. I've bought chaise loungers, stone and wooden statues, tables and love the eclectic vibe that it brings to my home. You really need to check back often because their inventory is constantly changing. All of their pieces are one of a kind and hand crafted. The pricing is very fair as well considering the quality and selection. You'd be hard pressed to find a better place in LA. I found their prices very market current and here you are buying from genuinely nice people who have a story to tell behind the individual piece you are buying. We couldn't be happier with our last visit to Jalan Jalan and plan on making it a regular stop whenever we visit Topanga Canyon. Oh my god.....my girlfriend and i were laughing that the buddah joint. It got 5 stars across the board. Were all the people under the influence of some mysterious substance who wrote these. First of all, place is spectacular in its setup..tranquility etc. Thats what may be lulling all these people into buying at the sky high prices they are.The owner was sitting inside on his phone and ive spoken to him before, hes an affable guy but maybe today he was tired, burned out, anythings possible. The prices... yikes!!! astronomical!! Im a avid shopper of these type of products and I assure you if you shop online or at other places they are 1.5 times the price they should be at minimum. We saw three size skulls, asked the owner the prices..." he said all are the same". 300.00 My girlfriend almost fell down ...(laugh) the sizes were hugely different . Folks , I asure you 98.5 % of the real population will see his prices and go into cardiac arrest. My husband and I stopped in last Saturday after an overdue visit to the Getty Villa. Perhaps the inspiration from the collection at the Getty is what drove me to spend money on our new home by purchasing some items from a roadside stop on Topanga Cyn. The three employees that helped us were all friendly and helpful. We bought an Indian silk rug made from leftover fabric from Saris. We also picked up a Huichol yarn painting and a cast concrete Medusa head for our garden.
