AWARENESS: My cousin Chewy talks about this place ALL the time. He goes on and on about how great their Micheladas are. NARRATIVE: Since I knew I'd be in the area. I called my cousin and basically told him to put up or, shut up. I invited him to Jalapeño's and even offered to pay his tab if the Micheladas were everything he's raves about. SCENE: Jalapeño's is located on at one corner of a strip mall. Inside, there is ample seating for larger families with booth seats or, if you visit and just want to grab a bite, a beer and watch a game. There are three bar tables with four seats close to both the bar and restroom. For entertainment. They have three 55 inch TV's positioned on three of the four walls. EVIDENCE: Jalapeño is very clean. The tables upon my arrival were ready to go. They offer a nicely stocked salsa bar for your free chips (you get two free) and their beers come in two sizes. A regular 12 ounce glass and I believe a 40 ounce one. Not too sure of the size but it's pretty huge. I ordered three tacos to try with my beer. One beef. One chicken and one tongue. I also ordered a large Michelada. My steak taco was amazing. Some of the best tasting and well seasoned beef I've had in a long time. The chicken was okay. Next time I'll order it and my beef tongue pan fried so it's crispy. RECOMMENDATION(S): Great spot to grab a Beer, Michelada and some eats. I highly recommend. read more

The first thing that drew me here was their high rating, and they didn't disappoint! The staff was friendly and helpful and pleasant. The price was extremely affordable for this day and age, I mean 12$ for a large plate of nachos! (I nixed the beans, Pico, guac, etc) that's a lot for that price tbh. Considering how full it was it was actual pretty relaxing and not overly loud inside like it was easy enough to tune out into the back ground. Now for the food, I'm picky about my nachos the first thing I look for (when I order acrually) is what's the cheese like (I don't like that fake liquid cheese sorry!) And I was excited to learn it was in fact melted montero jack! Next factor the chips of course! It's the base so I except it to stand uo to the weight it carries, literally, I don't want my nachos falling to pieces while I eat them. They did not let me down! I grabbed my complimentary chips, found a bar top and proceeded to the salsa bar. My favorite salsa would have to be the creamy green salsa. Although this wasn't spicy, it had the most flavor with a cilantro base and creamy texture. The light orange salsa, would. E my second fav, as this one provides the most spicy kick! My husband ordered the 2-item special which consisted of two chicken enchiladas with a side of Mexican rice and received beans. The enchiladas here are very juicy and full of authentic flavor. My carne asada burrito was absolutely delicious! There were random fat pieces of steak within my burrito - which is hard to come by with other taquerias. This provided so much flavor throughout the burrito. The rice? Omg, the rice is so tasty with a nice tomato after taste. From the tasty salsa, to the delicious Mexican rice to the juicy pieces of carne asada...this place is worthy and I stand behind my 5 star rating! Kinda shady, I ordered a super burrito bowl ($9.95) they charged me for a super burrito ($10.50) then put no tortilla. She could have just charged me correctly for the menu item I ordered but blatantly charged more and subtracted the tortilla to get the extra .55 ... Not that big of a deal. Overall food was pretty good, the burrito bowl was much bigger then expected. I'd come back, hopefully they can be sure to charge according to menu list price. read more

Jalapenos is our go to place for Mexican food. Their burritos are huge and the price is right. The pozole on Thursday is the best that I've had from a restaurant. They give you warm tortilla chips when you order and they have a self serve salsa bar! If beer is what you're looking for, you've found the right place! They have around 10 beers on tap, Mexican beers, bud light and coors light as well as some I.P.A.'s and the prices are awesome. The service is top-notch from Jessica, Liz-Beth, Marilu to all the other employees , everyone is super nice. They always greet you with a smile and the service is fast. It's a low key, no frills restaurant but what we love about it is how quickly you are served and their salsa bar. For me, the salsa bar makes it!! I have never seen pickled carrots with jalapeños before and they are delicious!! All we like to order are the bean and cheese burritos and load up on sides of different kinds of salsas, the carrots with jalapeños, and the onion to eat with it and it really hits the spot!! This is the only Mexican restaurant I go to in Modesto. Plus they're super close to my home. I order the Chicken burrito with shredded chicken and it always hits. It so good and i always have leftovers because the burrito is super big. Doesn't look like much when just walking past but I like it better than el rosal down the road. It's fairly cheap and great food I get a super burrito and they give you chips and a drink for under 10$ Got a good amount of stuff on the burrito for the $$ Definitely worth the shot. I also ordered fries and while they tasted good it wasn't worth the price. SERVICE: Very nice people behind the counter but it took a long time to get out the few items I ordered. You can order ahead so if want to give it a shot and want a chubby taco go for it. COST: Okay. Except the fries. For $3 I expected more than a handful.
