Who knew that such delicious Mexican food was waiting for me in Newport? Nice outdoor space although the traffic was loud. Staff was courteous and friendly. I had the agave tacos with chicken and my mom had a quesadilla. Everything tasted very fresh! The rice was delicious, the tacos were a nice bit of spicy and the quesadilla was enough for two meals. It's not a fancy place but if you want an informal meeting place, Jalisco Mexican Bar and Grill will fit the bill. I went there with friends and found the food good and the service excellent. We were a party of six and the waitress was very attentive. I ordered the grilled steak (meat was a little tough) and shrimp with wings. The drinks were well prepared and our waitress was very accommodating. Overall, the meals were hot and came quickly. Just be careful of the overzealous police in the area. The road is twisty and the will pull you over for coming too close to the line. read more

We wanted a nice lunch and drove 15 minutes to this restaurant to which we hadn't been before, and we were pleasantly surprised. We were given our choice of seats, booth or table and were seated instantly. Our waitresses was affable and courteous besides efficient. She recommended the house made salsa and picante sauce and she was 100% correct. Music was a mix of Mexican, Bachata, and Colombian Cumbia. It flowed smoothly and added to the ambiance, just enough to be heard but not overpowering. The liquor menu was extensive including a large number of tequila selections from the basic proletarian Jose Cuervo to the Don Julio and Clase Azul extra añejo - for a price. The fajitas we had were absolutely delicious. Beef, chicken and shrimp well seasoned and superbly cooked. Together with the pucante sauce, it was a match made in heaven. Yum! Although the building itself is large, the footprint for the dining area is relatively small, and I can understand several reviews of crowding. But for us, at lunch, this was not only perfect but it made for an absolutely superb evening. read more

We stopped in for a late afternoon lunch. The place was pretty quiet. Max our server was friendly and attentive. No lunch menu here but we ordered from the regular menu. We ordered the shrimp ceviche which was fresh and a little underwelming. It needed more lime. It was supposed to come with crackers or plantains, which never made it. Also the chicken enchilada verde was really good. THe verde sauce was the real deal and very fresh. It was supposed to come with rice which was missing. Good portions and fair prices. Great Mexican place! We went for lunch around noon during the week. They have a full bar and seats at the bar as well as a big dining area. A large parking lot with plenty of parking and colorfully decorated inside. They have a full menu, but they also have an abbreviated lunch menu. Everything was much more affordable on that menu, but it's only half portions. We ordered off the lunch menu and it was plenty and delicious. They also have complimentary chips and salsa. I have eaten here three times. The first time, I went with a friend and it was good. The second time, I went by myself and it was fair. The third time was not the charm! It was terrible. The people were sitting around on their hands and the poor young white girl out front was in over her head and none of the others were helping her. It took 10 min., to be seated after much confusion on her part. Finally, an older Mexican Fellow came over and took my order. He was the only one in the place who knew what he was doing. The meal came out room temp. I was not happy. I will not visit again. This is a shame, since their sister locations that are south of Newport, are all excellent! Sunday August 31 we ate at Jalisco for the first time. My wife ordered Quesabirria quesadilla. This is her favorite Mexican dish. Soon as it was served she noticed the season was off and very strong. Leaving an unpleasant taste. Two people at the table who order the same dish at this restaurant concurred this was dish was not made correctly. My wife who has never sent food back. Could not eat this dish and sent back and ordered a whole new meal. We were Shocked when the bill came that they charged us for both. The waiter refused to take it off the bill. California guy here, with so many Mexican food choices from street tacos to fancy sit down experiences. We're out here for a fam wedding in Sunapee, and after the weekend wrapped we ventured down to Jalisco with my mom and sister's fam. Back in California, I use Chile Rellenos as a gauge for whether they know their game or not. Jalisco? They impressed me. It was spot on. Our waiter Jesus greeted us and seated us right away and then proceeded to bring us the complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were warm and the salsa has a little kick but not too much. Taste was very good. Reasons for not 5 Stars: Jesus was very off putting and unfriendly, and we made a point to be extra friendly to him and it didn't make a difference in his demeanor. Each other time I've been I have to ask for items like hot sauces other items. The wait staff does not make any assumption as to what you might need or want so be prepared to ask. My wife had coffee today and he just plopped it down on the table and walked away (no creamers only one kind of sugar). When our food came he never checked on us to see if it was to our liking. (it's not like he was busy) Unless your a table full of good looking women don't expect anything extra from these waiters (we watched him interact with the other table today and he treated us differently). The food was okay. That's where the good ends. From the moment we walked in, the service was less than stellar. In fact, the staff was down right rude. When we arrived with our toddler the hostess seemed annoyed that a toddler was there. "Just what I need" to quote her. Not sarcastic, just plain annoyed. Mi Jalisco opened about a month ago in the former Country Kitchen in Newport. Mi Jalisco has other locations in Keene, Peterborough, Milford, and Manchester. I've been to the two latter locations which were okay experiences, but I decided to try out the Newport location on a Friday evening after work. When I pulled in here around 5:30, the parking lot was very full around the building and there was a wait to be seated at a table. The dining room is very cozy with tables and booths. I decided to head into the cozy lounge bar area which has seating up at the bar and high tops. I found an open seat at the very busy bar which had two bartenders on duty. It took about 5 minutes before a bartender gave me a menu and took my order and gave me an ice water as requested. I already knew what I wanted and ordered Beef Chimichangas ($13.50 plus tax) with rice. Being so hectic at the bar, I did have to ask for complementary chips and salsa, which was brought out quickly. The warm chips were nice and crunchy with a mild tomato salsa. My entree arrived very hot in 10 minutes, 2 deep fried crunchy chimichangas filled with soft shredded beef and green peppers, and a good portion side of soft Mexican rice, plus sour cream, guacamole, shredded lettuce, and ripe tomatoes on top of the chimichangas. The food was really good here. I was all set for the check after finishing up dinner. The total was $14.72 with tax and before tip. The service from the two bartenders was adequate and I was given a refill on the ice water to wash down. As I was leaving, there was still a waitlist to be seated at a table. read more

We came into the restaurant very hungry after a long drive. The inside of the restaurant is very clean, bright and well kept. Waitstaff was friendly and prompt. I got the Camarones al Mojo del Ajo, which lightly tasted of garlic, but was still quite flavorful. Overall we were happy with the ambience and the food. Something has happened here. Have been eating here since opened. In July Jr was gone ...service & food went down hill. Server max said ..we are busy what do you expect? Enchiladas cold in middle, chicken stringy and tough. Didn't care. Recommended previously to 2 friends and they said couldn't cut burrito, same comments on tough chicken. They will not go back. Called yesterday to talk to manager..no answer on phone after 14 rings it hung up, 4 other try's says not available...what is going on? Called Keene location to verify using right number.
