My partner had what the waitress referred to as a "restaurant staple" which was short rib stroganoff. He got food poisoning and was vomiting for 16 hours starting the next morning and had a 102° fever. Not going back. read more

Awful experience. Ordered a steak medium rare and it came out well-done and insanely salty. Sent it back, and the waitress suggested switching to a filet because the steaks are all pre-marinated well ahead of time. The filet was medium rare but still overwhelmingly salty. Salmon was just as bad, and even the salad dressing was sickly sweet. For the prices they charge, this is unacceptable. I am new to the area this year and this is my favorite restaurant in town. I've loved everything I've ordered, especially the short rib pasta and the mussels (which are on the specials menu and have a different flavor each time). We decided to try a new restaurant for our anniversary and we were both so impressed by the food and the service here at Suna! The ambiance was ideal...a nice quiet dinner for two in the dining room. For starters, before we even looked at our menu, our super friendly waitress, Emily brought over fresh bread (in a bag) and olives with fresh butter and took our drink order. She brought the beverages right over whilst we continued mulling over the menus. For an appetizer, we decided to try the pork potstickers, and they were delicious! The sauce was particularly tasty- with just a hint of spicy. The pork stuffing was juicy and flavorful and the wrapping was thin and soft...prepared very well. I ordered the Roast Half Chicken (with parmesan bacon brussel sprouts). The presentation was so gourmet and the taste was even more amazing. The chicken was cooked to perfection- juicy and tender and was further complimented by the seasoned brussel sprouts with the crispy bits of bacon blended in. Delicious and loved the combination of textures. Hubby ordered the Tips & Frites with a side Caesar Salad. I can't believe this was a side salad because it was HUGE. I partook in some and it was fresh, cool & crisp with the right amount of dressing- not overly saturated, but very generous with the cheese. Speaking of generous servings, hubs was very pleased by the serving size of the steak tips. I tried some bites, and it was super tender, like butter. Incredibly delectable. The fries were also perfect- crispy throughout the meal. For dessert, we decided to share the warm cinnamon bun with brown sugar ice cream, fresh fruit and whipped cream. It was definitely made to be shared and it was to die for! What an incredible meal! We enjoyed our entire experience at Suna. Emily was super attentive and extremely pleasant. Went to dinner here on a ski trip, did not expect much but was surprised but how beautiful the interior was and then the food was delicious. What really made this a five star experience was our waitress, she was extremely attentive, helpful in recommendations, explaining what I had ordered may be different than what I expect (I got the Haddock which comes as a filet on top of a chowder-amazing!). Although we were stuffed we still made room for the delicious dessert and regretted nothing! I Will definitely go back next visit up to Sunapee. read more

My new favorite local restaurant. Since covid reservations required even if you want to just sit at the bar so call ahead. We started with warm French baguette slices. Omgggg so good. They had a few olives and a pepperoncini to nibble on while we waited for our food. Large selection of cocktails, wine, spirits. They have food specials. We ordered the large ahi tuna. Pieces were on the thicker side. Edges were seasoned with a pepper rub. Ahi was seared. It was really delicious. I had 6 Wellfleet oysters with a strawberry kiwi mignonette. I really enjoyed them. I prefer briny oysters but they were yummy. My husband had the filet mignon with augratin potatoes and asparagus. Never mind the steak knife because we could of sliced them with a butter knife. I had the marinated steak tips and finally found a restaurant where they actually tasted marinated. This came with seasoned green beans and parmesan fries. The portion seemed endless. I had it for lunch the next day and still had pieces left over! We were too full for dessert but my goal is to return until I have tried everything on the menu. read more

I ate there recently on a weekend night, fairly early. I had no trouble parking and getting in being handicapped. The Suna, was not busy at the time I entered the front door. This is the second time, I stopped in. However, this is the first time I actually ate here. The first time, I went on a weeknight and stood at the hostess stand for 5 min. but no one acknowledged me and I left. That was about two years ago. I suspect that during the week it is a local drinking crowd in for happy hour. I will explain more in a minute about this... On weekends, they assume the persona of a upscale bestro, since the tourists show up and they are afterall, at Lake Sunapee! (Hey, what ever drives foot traffic and pays the bills!) The second time, I was acknowledged and greeted properly. I was shown to a seat in the corner at the south end of the resturaunt. The interior decor and arrangement is very nice, while the exterior is in serious need of painting on the trim and elesewhere. The pleasant woman who waited on me, came over and took my order about two minutes after sitting down. My eyes opened wide at the pricey cost of the entrees. To say the place is pricey is a bit of and understatement. I settled on a local beer and a cheeseburger. The meal came out after about 10 to 15 minutes and in the interim, they give patrons a snack consisting of a few pieces of bread in a bag and a dip and pickle. The bread was good. The hamburger came out and was cooked to order. However, while the burger was juicy, it was also high in grease and fat content. It was on a standard bun which was fresh but more consistant with wonder bread buns than a quality bread. I had a second local beer of the same type as the first. When I got the bill, the first beer was $5.50 USD and the second was $9.00 USD! The Hamburger was $21.00 USD. I asked the waitress why the cost of the beer was different and she answered you got here just before "Happy Hour", ended! They open at 3:00 PM for happy hour and I suspect the local traffic from the drinking crowd, helps sustain them during the week. The real income is during Summer, Fall leaf peeping and Ski Season with tourists. They are a local hangout pretending to be something that the are not. I personally would recommend Bubba's in Newbury Harbor, or the Appleseed in Bradford for a better dining experience. I would give Suna 3 and 1/2 half stars if I could, but that is not an option. I would give the service 5 stars and the food 3 stars. If you are a tourist with deep pockets, you might have a good time at Suna. I don't think I will be back, as I am a retired person on a fixed income. I wish them well. read more

A gorgeous little find. Best restaurant in the Sunapee region. A food menu to please any palate. Atmosphere is casual-nice, and quite clean. Service is quite good. The bartenders know their craft. The chef is very creative, always with a new special up his sleeve (ever had kangaroo tartare?) Pricing is commensurate with what you get. A burger costs what it should; filet mignon costs what it should. This is a must-see if you're anywhere near Sunapee. read more

Exceptional food and service. Pseudo-industrial interior decor, with classic New Hampshire theme. Very upscale menu, very well prepared and visually appealing. Very nice restaurant for our date night. We made reservations earlier in the day and were seated immediately when we arrived. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive to our needs. Decor is minimal but we were there for the food! My boyfriend had the steak "Tips and Frites" with green beans and parmesan fries. Service was good, food was good but not worth the price point. Nothing was great. Our medium rare steak tips were medium well and salty. The shrimp and lobster grits were good but did not have enough seafood to justify $36. I'm not sure if it's tourists or the rich retirees in the area allowing this restaurant to use prices more indicative of a more upscale fine dining establishment. This was definitely the nicest restaurant in town. If you are finishing up skiing on Sunapee, definitely come here for a nice dinner afterwards. We started off with trying two oysters. We've never had an oyster before and loved them so much, definitely oyster fans now because of this place. Next, we had The Chips, which I thought were delicious, I'm a HUGE blue cheese fan so it was extremely flavorful. Afterwards, we forced ourselves to eat our entrees (we were full from the chips, huge portion). I got the Mixed Grill which is a combination of shrimp, turkey tips, and steak tips. The steak was my favorite, so delicious. The shrimp was a little spicy so I had to dip it into the potato salad. I had to take a box home with leftovers because it was a huge serving size, amazing for the price!! My husband got turkey tips with the potato au gratin & he's a big fan of potato au gratin so he loved his meal. While we were waiting at the bar, we where we were greeted by two very capable and friendly bartenders. Once we were seated at our table, we were so delighted with the menu choices. We were a part of a 75th birthday party last evening which was comprised of 7 couples. We were seated in the dining room section and not the bar area. Our waitress, Kim, was one of the best waitstaff we've ever had serve is a meal at any restaurant. Each couple had separate checks, all ordered off the menu, all had various drinks, apps, etc. She got EVERYTHING correct, including making sure that everyone got the right bill and got the right credit cards back. She was amazing and always with a smile. The food that we, my wife and I, had was outstanding. We started with the escargot which was good but not over the top. We then had salads. I had a Caesar and my wife had the Waldorf. Both salads were fantastic both fram a taste and a portion perspective. The Caesar included a generous portion of anchovies. I then had the Short rib Stroganoff which was one of Kim's suggestions. It was the real deal. Great portion of both very tasty short rib and a wonderful stroganoff with fresh peas. My wife had the mushroom risotto and she's still racing about it. All in all, a wonderful dining experience! We will be returning and we will definitely be joining their frequent dining program. read more

We came here for an early dinner after a day of skiing. The menu had a lots of choices as well as specials. We ordered a few things to share and started with escargot. Very delicious. We had so many things, bread, salad, and odds and ends - by the time my tuna salad and lobster flatbread came out I was pretty full. I liked both dishes very much but focused on the tuna, as I knew the flatbread would be great as a leftover. Everyone else enjoyed their dishes as well. This is going to become a must-go place for good dining in the Lake Sunapee area. It is brand new, clean as a whistle, with great food and a well stocked bar. The parent company, Magic Food Restaurants, owns several casual but yet upscale restaurants in New Hampshire's tourist areas. And their expansion into the Lake Sunapee area is welcome. Despite over a half a million visitors each year, the Lake Sunapee area lacks in restaurant and lodging infrastructure. So a new restaurant is always welcome and with the appropriate food quality and service standards, it will do extremely well. Entering the venue, I was welcomed by the friendly and obsequious staff is obviously well trained and eager to please. The bar, to my immediate left, has a full stock of well and call drinks and plenty of sitting room. While to the right and down the hall, the dining room featured white table cloth tables ready for the evening rush. I had the shrimp cake and washed it down with a delicious IPA which was more than enough. Their beer selection is extensive with local brewers featured on tap while bottled beer was also available. Then there's a full array of appetizers, such as the Ahi Tuna served with a delicate ginger and soy sauce and the shrimp cake with chipotle mayo. Their entrées have something for everyone with a New England flair, from Mac & Cheese with lobster meat, to Argentine Churrasco, to Baked Haddock. Excellent food, excellent service, smiles all around, incredible cleanliness, and superb taste. My only reason for four stars is the setting. It needs some sound barriers or wall tapestries or something. As clean as it is, the sound, even with few people inside, carries throughout. I can't imagine a full restaurant in a closed-in environment like during the Winter, and being able to have anything like a normal conversation. Talking to the management, it helps - better yet - strongly recommend, to make reservations during the weekend. Once ski season starts, watch out. This visit was only a taste. I read that they highly recommended reservations because of a situation with short staffing. I called and asked for 6pm. I was asked if we could make it 6:15. Suna is a place that serves sophisticated entrees, a nice variation from the typical fare in this area. Every meal at my table was stellar; all of the plates were clean! Some favorites are the haddock the meatloaf. My wife said it was the best she has had in a long time, and the meatloaf was fantastic.
