Avoid this place if you are looking for good food! Absolute worst Mexican food I have ever eaten (fajitas). Salsa is bland, chips bland and the fajitas were weird tasting. Service was ok but when we ordered a beer got the giant size without the option of the smaller size. Also weirdly our booth was up against the bar. Ordered a basic Carne Asada burrito. Meat is just trash, with no flavor. This guac that people are praising was old and brown. The rice was crunchy. The beans the same, no flavor. The nachos?? The sauce actually didn't make sense. We came to visit from California, expectation was not high on Mexican food but we figured something has to be good out here. Nope, not HERE! I was in Helena for work and it was my first time visiting Montana's capital city. It is a nice city and seems like a decent place to live but Helena doesn't really strike me as a foodie destination. That said, Jalisco Mexican Grill caught my eye so I decided to give them a shot for dinner. The door facing the street is not the main entrance but it's the one I went through. From there I was directed via sign to the host station where I discovered another sign directing me to seat myself. This is a very casual place with a charmingly dated interior. It has a very pub like feel with a large bar counter and a couple TVs for watching sports. I ordered the Plato Ranchero which can come with steak or chicken. I picked the steak. The presentation is great with an oversized plate and generous portions of meat, rice, beans, pico de gallo, and guacamole. My food was tasty and satisfying. Service was casual, friendly and competent. This place really gave me 80s standard Mexican restaurant vibes, but in a good way. The ingredients were fresh, the flavors were good and the portions were generous. This will be a place on my list anytime I am in Helena, Montana's capital city. read more

The food here is simply disgusting. Save yourself the time and money and go to a different restaurant. This is not quality Mexican food, it's not even good Mexican food. Came here from California and I was expecting to be somewhat disappointed but not THIS disappointed. Our server was very sweet I will give them that. The salsa taste like PACE salsa from the grocery store; I ordered the birria quesadilla and they put the onion and cilantro cooked inside, which wilts the cilantro and makes it taste nasty. The beef seemed almost undercooked and tasted nasty. The refried beans tasted like old dusty beans that had been sitting around for a few days. They bring out a side of sour cream, guacamole and pico de gallo all in the same container, didn't even strain the juice out so it caused a nasty little mess in the container. The consome for the birria quesadilla was flavorless it was like dipping the quesadilla in hot water, even when I mixed it no flavor came through at all. Please don't come here and seek out some quality Mexican food if that's what you're looking for because it's not here. Another side note is the restaurant looks a bit dirty and the bathrooms are very weird, there's no doors on the women's restroom stalls and the sink in the men's bathroom doesn't even work. read more

We had a craving for Mexican, and tried to find a place that wasn't too "fancied up" in Whitefish, to no avail. When we drove to Helena for our next campground, we immediately checked out the Mexican again and looked for something more authentic. From the reviews and photos we realized it looked more like what we'd been hankerin' for, so we found our way there and tried it out. The waitress was the only one working in the middle of the afternoon, so she was a bit run ragged. Our meal portions were large, hubs had the chicken fajitas and I went for the huevos rancheros. Mine was massive! In fact, when she brought it to the table the food was just pouring over the edge of the plate. No, it didn't get cleaned up before we left. Hubs said his was ok, and I thought mine was pretty durned good. In my book that's good enough. For what it's worth. read more

Placed a call in order and have never been so disappointed. I thought they seasoned their ground beef. Ordered a tostada and beef nachos. Both were very bland, only flavor on the tostada was the sour cream I put on it. Forget about chips and salsa, you get less than a half a bag and not enough salsa to use. We've been meaning to check this place out for a while. Such a welcoming atmosphere. The hostess was very friendly and smiley. The young man (blonde, muscular) who served us was friendly, prompt and funny! The food came out so hot, the portions are HUGE and it was authentic and tasty! We felt very taken care of. Came through town and stopped here. I have eaten every type of Mexican food from Los Angeles to Texas to Seattle. The guacamole was ok. Nothing to write home about but I have had much worse. I really enjoyed my recent lunch here. I got a combo with shredded beef taco, cheese enchilada, rice and beans. Taco shell was the perfect texture, enchilada didn't turn into a pile of grease like so often happens - it remained tasty even after the cheese had cooled a bit. Overall, not too bad. They were pretty busy, and only had about 4 waitresses/bartenders for the entire restaurant, so service was a little slow. My wet bean and shredded beef burrito was delicious. My husband's chicken enchiladas were alright, but not the best I'd ever had. My virgin pina colada was delicious and his spiked horchata was pretty great too. Just moved from out of state (where we have real Mex food) and read the reviews for Jalisco and thought I would give it a try. Decor is fun and appropriate. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food came out quickly and Looked great but..... chips and salsa were good , beans were ok (needed more seasoning) chicken enchiladas with the verde sauce was absolutely tasteless (no heat or spices), the taco was just a taco that anyone would make, usually made with al pastor but they use carnitas,meh. The rice was more of a Spanish rice then Mexican but had the most flavor of any other dish. I'll still be looking for some good Mexican food but from what I hear, that's not to likely, too bad. This was our first time at Jalisco. We have been cautious about eating inside during Covid. The tables were spaced out appropriately. It's a big space. We felt comfortable. Our server confessed that she was new but she did a fine job. She had the right temperament, good timing, and a sense of humor. We had 2-combo dishes - tacos, enchiladas, and tamales. It was all we'd hoped for from a Mexican restaurant in Montana. I had the Cadillac margarita, which was worth the extra dollars. Having moved here from Southern California, I was desperately trying to find some good Mexican food. All of the "Mexican" food I've had in Helena so far just did not taste like the food that I grew up with, until I found Jalisco. I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I tasted their carnitas for the first time, and saw not only that it was fried, but that it had delightfully crispy edges! Stopped by on my way through town with my family. (Husband, toddler, and infant.) Atmosphere was relaxed, clean, and service was great. Our waitress was attentive and really understanding of what it's like to dine with young children. My husband and I each had the fajitas, which were hot, huge portion sizes, and honestly some of the best fajitas we have had (and we eat at many Mexican restaurants). Stopped by last night and had the Jalisco steak burrito. My wife got one of their enchilada plates. It was a very good meal. The steak was very well seasoned.
