The quality of the food has deteriorated since the business changed hands in 2019. We went back a few times since it was sold because we thought the drop in quality was simply the result of someone having a bad day. Either our assumption was wrong or someone was having a bad four years. Today was the last straw - the contents of my burrito were cold - like right out of the refrigerator cold. The burritos were excellent. My shrimp burrito supreme was flavorful the shrimp were tender. Even though we ate in, our burritos were served wrapped in foil and in a paper lined plastic basket. My burrito was so saucy that I had to use a knife and fork to eat it, but without a plate It was very difficult to eat foil with each bite. The dining room is functional but not cozy. There is apparently only one bathroom and it requires a key to use it. The Yelp listing has the correct address listed, but when we used the "direction function" it took us to a point north of downtown and miles from the actual restaurant! The restaurant manager said "oh yeah, we had a lease option there". IMPORTANT- the restaurant is in a pedestrian mall! Find a parking ramp or on street parking near by. I had the beef taco and the carne asada taco. Both were very good. Nothing too fancy. Fresh toppings and tasty sauce. Lived in New Mexico and it measured up to that standard, sans green chili. Ambiance is very casual. You don't kids were there. The workers were pleasant you get your food like you at Subway, standing in a line. read more

I think covid lives here. It was beyond words how much fear was in the atmosphere. From the customers to the employees to the restaurant set-up. A lady yelled at me that My child ran into her 6 feet bubble. I came in with my mask (as we all know it doesn't work) and they had chairs lined up from the counter where to order. I couldn't hear the girl, they didn't hear me. I couldn't ask questions as I was a mile away. GIVING BAD SERVICE TO PEOPPE and calling it "because Corona" is such BS. Food was not authentic. Just overly disappointed. Giving a 2 stars cuz I did eat the food. It wasn't horrible. But they need to calm down with politics aka Corona. The business has sold and neqnowners in place for several months now. The last rime i was there I noticed that the portion size of their burritos has significantly less. I discussed this with my friend, whose family ate there 2-3 times per month. They aren't going there anymore since they have noticed the same thing. The food is decent, I've definitely had better. The service is hit and miss. Sometimes it's great service with a smile, other times it seems that you are inconveniencing them by coming in. Then if you try to place a to go order, good luck, they don't answer the phone. Last time I tried to order I called about 8 times and they still wouldn't answer. Don't be deceived by the clean and cool interior of the restaurant. This place should be called Tacos Del Infierno (Tacos from Hell). First, they ran out of chicken right around dinner time so I was forced to get a steak burrito. I couldn't tell if the steak was actually from a cow. The consistency resembled the rubber from the bottom of the pink haired worker's shoe. Every ingredient from the pico to the beans to the lettuce tasted like they were sitting outside all day fermenting in the Helena heat. The concept of "fresh" ingredients was clearly not a priority. What was a priority was trying to poison their customers. After finishing the burrito, both my insides and my mind were wishing that I had simply not set foot in that restaurant. The red hot sauce was tomato paste. The guacamole was maybe a tsp worth smeard across like butter, can't taste it, there was maybe five shreds of cheese, maybe two tsp of meat, mostly just unseasoned white rice. I also asked for onions and cilantro. How do you manage to make raw onion flavorless? Don't bother paying for a "14 tortilla thinking you're getting an upgrade : you get the same amount of ingredients as a "12 tortilla, you just get more of that pasty steamed tortilla wadded up. Typical Montana food- made to please the sad bland pallets of those who have never left the state boarders and have grown up eating white bread, Mac n cheese, and boiled potatoes. It's one thing to serve tasteless sad food, but it is quite another to charge these prices and act like it's something out of this world special. Their "fish tacos" are technically "fish tacos," but are the worst version I've ever seen or tried. They are breaded fish sticks stuffed into a taco. Disgusting. No effort. Their carne asada was horrible. Lack of flavor and is suspected of causing a mild case of food poisoning as it was the only thing that was different that one person in our party ate than the rest of us that week. Save yourself the time and trouble. Taco Bell, which we refer to as Toxic Hell, is better than this place...and that is just sad. read more

We wandered down to Last Chance Gulch for dinner on our only night in Helena, and the first night of our two-week road trip. We were tired after a long day of driving so something quick appealed to us. The high ceilings and tall windows make the space seem even bigger than it is. The decor was cute and the place was clean. I ordered a fish taco with a hard shell and a chicken taco with a soft shell. My husband ordered a burrito and we topped it off with two JALEPENO PINEAPPLE MARGARITAS! All said the total was only $17.80 which is a fricking bargain to me. The food was much tastier than Mexican fast food where I come from. The salsas were delicious. My only complaint would be that the hard shell taco seemed a little stale. All the meat and toppings tasted good, though. Those margs were delicious and were only $3 each for 16oz. We interacted with three staff members. Two people who took our orders/made our food, and one at the till. They were all super friendly and really polite. I was really struck by it. The locally owned "fresh Mex" place. Menu consists of mission burritos with fish, chicken, pork, beef, or carne asada, and black, refried, or pinto beans, tacos, and a few other related items. Vegan friendly options as well. Menu options range from around $2 for a taco, to $5 for 14" burritos. Very bright, colorful decor in a restaurant that's in the basement of one of the buildings on the Walking Mall in town - you get a true feel for the mining town that Helena used to be when you go to the bathroom, and you walk past the walk-in vault with the big wheel on the font of it. More character is added to the place as people's various foil creations (animals, vehicles, etc) are on the counter . . . I Best fish burrito ever! read more

I've eaten here for years. Fresh good food at a great price. The service has been consistently friendly over the years and I haven't ever had a bad experience here. The fish tacos are good. Since they make your food while your standing there you can ask for less or none of any ingredient and get what you expect. I also appreciate how hard they try to get things you make suggestions for, like beer!! Something else I admire about Taco del Sol is the level of involvement and commitment they have put into the community. They really appreciate their customers and give back in many ways. read more

My girlfriend got food poisoning from this place yesterday. Non-stop throwing up for 8 hours. She ordered the burrito supreme with carne asada. Bad idea. She said it tasted funny from the start.
