5 stars all around! My friends and I (a party of 10) are visiting Chicago. We came to Jam 'n Honey for brunch and we were all amazed. First off, the service was quick. We called 20 minutes in advance and were able to be seated as soon as we arrived. Our waitress, Grace was amazing shout out to her. Great customer service, all of our orders arrived correctly and promptly. She was able to accommodate us with all our requests from extra silverware to straws. Note: Jam 'n Honey is currently cash only! Onto our regularly scheduled programming. I ain't mad. Right on the corner of Sheffield and Webster, Jam 'n Honey is a sleeper you can bet on. I passed by a few times before eating here, and I could already tell that the owners knew what they were doing by placing jars of Nutella on each table in plain view, with spoons resting on top of them. Spoons. Their methods are exactly the same as when girls post pictures of themselves on Facebook in their underwear. C'mon now. We both know what's going on here. I was attracted to those jars of hazelnut goodness like a bug to a blue light, but the "cash only" sign had deterred me because my cash is usually on reserve to make it rain in the club. One fine day, I finally found myself in the area with an hour to kill, an empty stomach and cash in my pocket. Time to Jam. It's a small, minimalistic space but very cute, and I love that they open up the doors to make it feel like al fresco dining if you sit at one of the tables on the border of the restaurant (I'm assuming when the weather is nice). The menu is pretty simple. Breakfast items include eggs, omelets (with a make your own option), pancakes/french toast/waffles (chicken & waffles too, whattup!), burritos and chilaquiles. Lunch items are burgers, sammies, wraps and salads. I went with the Mexican omelet which has chorizo, onions, cilantro, jalapenos, pepper jack and pico. It came out lightning fast - I think I waited like five minutes. And it was simply scrumptious. The eggs were light and fluffy. I wish there was a tiny bit more chorizo, but I dug the freshness of the ingredients, the sweetness of the tomatoes, the gooeyness of the cheese and the spiciness of the peppers. It came with a side of potatoes and peppers, which were made the way that I wish my potatoes came out when I make them at home. Perfectly crisp on the outside. Yeah, this is a lengthy description for an omelet with taters, but it was pretty darn good. Of course I helped myself to plenty of Nutella on my toast. I'm sure I had some all up in my teeth when my server came to give my the bill. But hey, if I'm giving you money I expect you to smile back at me when I smile at you with Nutella-stained teeth. From the day this place has opened, it has had a steady stream of diners, but after two visits here - I'm a bit stymied. My first visit was shortly after Jam N Honey opened and didn't leave much of an impression on me or my dining companion. About the only thing I recall was his response to my comment on the bland decor - "what decor?" When me and two of my favorite gal pals decided to meet for brunch, I was ready to give JnH another shot and hopefully glean what all of the other diners seem to love about the place. Sadly, I did not. The place was unsurprisingly busy when we arrived; there's not much space to wait inside, so we were ushered to a side little hallway while we waited for a table. After a short wait, we were seated in back. If you are offered the back space and are not dining with small children, wait for table up front. This is the crappiest of the dining options here. We were next to the beverage, dirty dishes and the silverware prepping station. It was awkward feeling to say the least and the table full of children next to us made me feel like we were wrongly punished for a crime we didn't commit. Our server was nice, patient while we struggled over what to order. My friends ended up getting the omelet and chicken & waffles, while I got the loaded waffle - at our server's recommendation - and a side of potatoes. JnH gets an A for presentation, my waffle with bananas, whipped cream, and berries looked quite nice and the breakfast potatoes too. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the taste. As my friend said - the waffle tasted like nothing special and seemed a bit steep at $11. Even if it had been teeming with fruit, $11 for a waffle with no side seems too high. A friend who went to DePaul for college recommended this spot when we were in Chicago for a weekend staycation. I tried the chorizo potato hash with scrambled eggs and devoured every last bite. Stopped by Jam 'n honey for lunch last weekend. As with all brunch places in Chicago, seemingly the determining factor on where you go is how long the wait will be. The wait at Jam 'n Honey was great, like 5 minutes. They move those tables really quickly and make the most of their sidewalk space. I got a breakfast burrito with scrambled eggs, chorizo, guac, black beans, salsa. It was quite good I have to say. I would get it again. They definitely didn't skimp on the eggs which meant that the burrito was really filling so I got two meals out of it. Good deal for a brunch. Also, love the massive jars of Nutella on each table. I went here with some friends and typically absolutely love it. However this time, I left upset. My friends ordered the south of the border burrito. They ordered the food and there was no toast. The server then came to tell us the toast was not included in the meal even though it clearly shows toast under the section that sells the south of the border burrito. Jam 'N Honey is a popular brunch/ Lunch spot in the heart of Lincoln park on the intersection of Webster and Sheffield. Helpful things to know before you arrive: 1.This spot is CASH ONLY, they do have an ATM on site, but it charges a $3 fee 2. They will not seat incomplete parties, and there is ZERO place to sit/ stand to wait for your name to be called so you pretty much have to wait outside, not great on the colder days. 3. It is BYOB, but for whatever reason they still charge a $5 corkage fee, I was not aware a restaurant could charge a corkage if they did not serve alcohol, but they do. 4. On the weekends, you are only allowed to sit at your table for 90 minutes, accordingly to a sign on every table. Now that we're past all of the rules for eating brunch...this place wasn't bad!
