Decent place but nothing dazzling. I got the pork belly hash which I liked that they put a lot of porkbelly in and it was pretty flavorful. My friend got the Benedict which she said was ok. Uncertain how I feel what they're communicating by having a bottle of Nutella at every table. The cash only rule is a bit inconvenient considering you have to drive to find an ATM for a major bank. If they have the doors open for plein air dining, be advised the sunlight won't shine on you (or warm you up) near lunch time. Lunch was served promptly, no long waits, the food arrived not steaming hot so it was ready to be enjoyed. Breakfast sandwich is large enough to compete with an 8-inch sub, tea selection was enough to meet your green & black cravings. Breakfast burrito is Chipotle sized and the pancakes were just fine. I love the food. I order the traditional eggs benedict every weekend. However, my order doesn't consistently go right. I've had burnt english muffins, I typically ask for an extra sauce and half of the time this is right. One time I even called because my order seemed to be lagging behind. The woman on the phone was frantic and rude and hung up on me eventually. So overall I would give the food a good review but the service could be improved. read more

Despite it's great location, and cute look along with a fully function/receptive staff. However, they do not have a public restroom nor do they make it known that their establishment is cash only until you get your check. During my departure I looked for anything that indicated that they were "Cash only" and there is not. Once you find out they don't take card you will also learn that they don't have an ATM. If I could give less I would! I went to have a nice breakfast with my family and cut into my omelet to find hair!!!! Not mine, mind you. When I shared with the waitress her reaction was not apologetic and neither was the managers. It was flippant as if I should of assumed I should be served a body part. If you enjoy bodily parts and hair this restaurant is definitely for you. If you prefer friendliness, cleanliness, and sanitary conditions I recommend going to one of the many other establishments in the neighborhood. Also my husbands drink left something to be desired. Meh. I was expecting something a bit better than what I had. The large tub of Nutella at each table actually grossed me out thinking of the endless people who have taken their own knifes to dip into the jar. Or the open jars of jam and marmalade they bring the table. Yuck yuck yuck. The menu seemed so generic and boring and offered too many things. I ended up playing safe and getting eggs, toast, bacon, and their house potatoes. Asked for the bacon basically burnt it was still flimsy. Bread wasn't even warm or toasted. And the potatoes had orange peppers in it which was odd to me. They only accept cash but when I later asked if they would take my card because I only had $20 for a $22+tip bill, they took my card. Also, odd. Service suckedddddd. The wait staff was sitting around with 2 people in the entire place and we never got refills. Had to get up, walk over to the sitting staff, to ask for a side of ranch, and also had to approach them for our bill. Won't be back. Too many other cool places in the area. This place is just ok. Bottom line is: don't use more than one of your dining out opportunities at Jam & Honey. The neon sign is super cute and will try to lure you in again and again, but don't do it! The restaurant is steps (literally) from DePaul University. The average age of your typical diner here is 19-25. Every table has a giant tub of Nutella on it (ie "welcome back from your semester in Europe"). My food tasted bland and my coffee was bleh. It took our server about 5 minutes to greet us and 5 more to bring our drinks. Cash only. Crowded. Tiny tables. If you do visit Jam & Honey get the breakfast burrito (it's good) and snag a nice table outside. There's an ATM catty corner from restaurant. Chicken, bacon, tomato and 2 poached eggs on an English muffin served with house potatoes. They sat us right away which was lovely but from there service was a little slow. My mom ordered the regular waffle and I ordered the stuffed french toast. I ordered the french toast intrigued by the description of a creamy berry filling and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. Sadly, my stuffed french toast was about as thick as half a loaf of bread and therefore dry as a desert inside. The berry filling was pretty mediocre, a lot like if I had tried to make a berry filling on my own by mixing smuckers and cream cheese, and the "drizzle" of balsamic was more like a dousing. No good. No good at all. The place was nice and busy with young couples with children and I could see how it would be good for them. Enough space that your kids can be loud and enough bland food options that you can find something for you kid to eat. Yet another brunch review- I can't help it! Who doesn't love not only an opportunity to eat omelets at 2 p.m. but an excuse for sleeping away half of your Sunday?! Visited Jam 'n Honey (around 11:30 a.m.) on a Saturday and only had to wait about 10 minutes- score! The selections are what immediately caught my attentions- plenty of options for both breakfast & lunch which is always good for a group who can't make up their mind. I also loved that each menu option contained a lot of ingredients. Ordered a salad here today (trying to be healthy) and was pleasantly surprised at how fresh everything was. The staff was great and accommodated my very picky friend on all of her "special" requests (although they did upcharge her for every little thing she ordered)- lame. Also- did I mention there are Nutella jars on the table along with the ketchup & S&P?! Don't worry, when my friend was in the bathroom I stole her toast, slathered on the nutella and stuffed it in my mouth before she came back. Score! What I liked most about this tiny place is that the host accurately quoted the wait times. Note that at 11:15am on a Saturday, it's 15 minutes. By 11:30, it's 25. The second most likable thing is the giant jar of Nutella that's on each table, alongside the jams. Nutella is god's gift to toast, as we all know. The only thing that's a little "sketch" is anyone who may have double dipped in the jar before you. I had the 3 egg make-your-own omelette which comes with potatoes and toast. I thought the eggs were done nicely and the potatoes were crispy and tasty, not mushy and greasy. My friend had the oatmeal pancakes with blueberry/lemon compote. I had a bite and they were amazing. Here's the thing: Jam 'n Honey is NOT better than Toast, located on Webster only a few blocks east. That would be fine IF it offered a cheaper fare but it really doesn't. I just had breakfast here with a group of friends and before tip our bill came to about $16 a person. I didn't even get anything that outrageous--just a stack of blueberry pancakes. The BYOB option sounds good, but they charge a $5 corkage fee, and you can't bring your own orange juice. Their carafe of OJ is a whopping $14. Basically it boils down to this: if you want a unique brunch experience, go to Toast. If you want a diner-style experience you are better off with Melrose Cafe (bigger portions, better price!). Jam 'n Honey is too expensive to be a diner deal and too average to be worth the price. read more

Months before they finally opened, my friend and I were very excited about a place that would be called 'Jam 'n Honey'. We envisioned pots of both on the tables that you dug into with bear claws, nom nom. Well the sanitary restrictions on reusable bear claws might not be all worked out yet but the the food at Jam 'n Honey sure is! Stopped in for a brunch/lunch where my friend and I did an eggs Benedict share getting the Italian and Lump Crab. The Italian was served on a cheddar risotto cake and topped with spinach and an amazing tomato jam. The lump crab benedict was loaded with a ton of crab and hollandaise sauce. The crab was a tinge too salty but still tasty. At the table another friend ordered a dish of banana with whipped cream which was a perfect pairing with the huge jar of nutella that is on every table. Throw some nutella in your coffee while you're at it too! There were also several kinds of jam on each table, a berry and an orange marmalade. It would have been nice if our meals came with toast as well so we could have tried them. It is cash only for now but hopefully that will be worked out soon. This is a review of dinner only. I came for the Gilt city promotion which included a salad and entree. The food is decent. I didn't think anything was spectacular but it's more of a diner with basic food so I wasn't expecting anything out of this world. I had a mixed green salad and pork tenderloin with chipotle bbq sauce and mashed potatoes. If you are looking for a home cooked meal kinda taste, this would be a good place to come. Three hangry girls went looking for brunch post-NYE and found this yummy spot. Jam n Honey is always packed and now I know why. Its fantastic! Make sure you get extra toast to sample the nutella and jams on the table. All three of us ordered very different dishes and loved them. I've had a BLAST before at another lunch spot, but Jam N Honey's BLAST was dynamite. The thick bread and bacon Jam n Honey uses is clearly is the way to go. The mixed greens side paired well with the sandwich. My friend's burger was mouthwatering. The homemade tomato Jam looked amazing, perhaps like a sweet salsa. The fries were deliciously thick and salty. My friend's Crab eggs benedict was decadently rich, but not overwhelming. The crab was very fresh and generously portioned. She suggested that the home fries could be crispier. I was sorely disappointed with Jam n' Honey. I wanted to it to be a neighborhood greasy spoon with delicious food but instead the service was rushed and the food mediocre. I was seated at three different outdoor tables as I was asked to move by the host that many times to accommodate large parties. I understand that this happens but it was a little ridiculous. Our server was very sweet but was not attentive, our coffees and water kept running empty. The food was lackluster and not great quality at all. The one redeeming factor at Jam n' Honey is the gorgeous outdoor patio, which made the whole experience much more enjoyable. I still don't understand why there is an hour wait on the weekends for this place but maybe I just caught them on a bad day. I will say this-the jam was delicious! Three friends met for brunch one day. Thankfully all of them had brought cash with which to pay And so they laughed and ate. While discussing...stuff. I'm no poet. But Jam n' Honey was indeed a perfect place for a low key brunch. You could definitely tell we were in a college neighborhood, as most of the other tables were filled with students. Service was good, and the atmosphere was cozy. I loved the little pots of jam and marmalade on the table, both of which turned out to be absolutely delicious, although I must give a special shout out to the marmalade. Marmalade you awesome! Also appreciated the massive jar of Nutella on the table, although I didn't end up using any as I was too overcome with marmalade love. Seriously, I ate both pieces of my toast, despte trying to watch my holiday figure, just so I could consume more marmalade. Toast was balanced out with an egg white Italian omelette which I chose because it sounded slightly different from what one typically sees on the menu. It was indeed tasty, although not enough to merit eating the whole thing. I did love how all the ingredients combined and certainly enjoyed every bite I did eat. The potatoes, which were done with (I believe) yellow peppers, were equally tasty. I love when a restaurant does something a little different with a side like that. The waffle with fruit and whipped cream, as well as the oatmeal pancakes were both on par with the rest of the food. I'd definitely order either if I were in a rare mood for something sweet. That said though, neither were out of this world amazing or unique in any way. Just good, solid brunch items. Overall I enjoyed my meal, although I do think it was a little pricey for what was, essentially, a basic brunch. I feel that if everything had been a dollar or so cheaper, it would be a better match. Used a $20 groupon and had quite a meal here alone on a chilly night. I ordered the iced tea as a drink, and it was good- I normally never drink such things but I needed to pad the bill so I could use the groupon. I then ordered the chicken and waffles and the shortstack as a side (more so a dessert). Why don't we eat chicken and waffles everyday? Seriously. I love salty and sweet together. I love brunch. This needs to be an every meal staple. The waffle filled my plate and it was thick and light and delicious. On top were two enormous, perfectly breaded and fried chicken strips. Beneath them somewhere was this delicious vanilla honey butter. I was in heaven. The same butter appeared on my shortstack made up of two pancakes. They were a little on the sour side for me, but I quickly hid that aftertaste with two spoonfuls of Nutella, which is ingeniously present on every table. Like I said, more dessert than side. How was I able to eat all of this? I have a limitless stomach, that's how. I also did an hour of Jillian Michaels afterwards. Ok, it was only a half hour, but I was so full, it felt like an hour. Anyway, place is small and cute and service is super friendly. Been there for brunch and dinner and the food was decent for both. The real reason it gets 2 stars is because of the service. The first time we went there it was still cash only. The waitress didn't give us all our change. She kept the coins for herself and rounded to the nearest dollar so we only got some singles back to leave for tip. Kind of unusual but whatever. The second time we went there we used a Gilt City voucher which already included tax. The waitress charged us again for tax. Gilt City salvaged the situation by giving us $10 credit. Also just be aware that if you are using a Gilt City voucher, you don't get the regular menu. The waitress gave us the regular dinner menu at first and then took it away and gave us the "Gilt menu" which was more limited (only the cheap items were available). While the rest of the service was okay, these two incidents left a bad taste in our mouth and made us feel like Jam 'n Honey tries to take advantage of the customer in small ways that they hope the customer won't notice. read more

It is never a good sign when one decides to finally open a Yelp account just to write a review. I just ordered an egg white omelette, which was a little smelly and undercooked (runny egg whites are not pleasant). I sent it back and I was REALLY nice about it. I got back an even less cooked omelette. I spoke to the manager and was not offered to not pay for the omelette. WOW!!! Came in with the boyfriend around 10:30 AM on a Sunday and waited about 10 minutes for a table, which happened to be outside, prime real estate on a summer day.
