Kids had fun! Nice and clean facility. Well laid out. My friends had birthday parties there too and they did a great job.

We started a class with Miss Mandy, who is very good at being cheerful and encouraging without being too overwhelming.

Saltbox catered our wedding in rural Vermont a few weeks ago, and my husband and I (as well as our…read moreguests) couldn't be happier! My husband and I are both vegetarian and good food obsessed, so when we first started planning our wedding, we knew good food was a top priority. It was important to us to have a vegetarian wedding that was delicious and vegetable-focused (and not just boring pastas or tofu steaks). We also knew that lots of our guests were meat-eaters and we wanted to make sure everyone walked away excited about the food. Well, Saltbox completely pulled it off. They worked patiently with us at every step. We gave them the adjective "Ottolenghi-esque" at the beginning and a few other notes about our taste, and they ran with it from there, delivering a draft menu that was amazing and then revising it according to our feedback. Throughout, they were easy to work with and extremely professional, and they pulled off of the details on the day beautifully, with everyone leaving happily stuffed and thrilled. (They even accommodated our gluten-free and dairy-free guests with delicious alternatives.) The waitstaff was also fantastic and helped ensure that my husband and I got enough to eat amidst all the busy-ness and dancing. Now, just a few weeks later, we are constantly hearing from friends and family about how great the food was (the best they've ever had by some accounts), asking for Saltbox's name, and remarking about how they completely forgot that they were eating vegetarian for the night because every dish was so delicious. I have been to lots of weddings and frankly, most of the food is not memorable. Saltbox's food absolutely was.

Went with my husband and 10month old to pick some asian pears and honeycrisps. There was organized and ample parking. The main paths have large gravel rocks that were loose and uneven and a grass strip in the middle. It was a bit hard to push through even with our stroller with large wheels. The tractors that occasioned through blew the dust up around the paths too. There were plenty of porta potties and I also liked they have a hand washing station too. We didn't try any of the food trucks but appreciated the option. Farm stand was small, there were some picnic tables but could have been more (potentially near the food trucks) There were some chicks, bunnies, a goat, and donkey? to look at. The kids play area has a 2-5 & 5-12 play structures and water play but they were very close together, not much room to run around between the structures.

From what I could tell, there are larger orchards in the area but Shelburne seemed to have everything you need - a food truck (with an excellent burger and pulled pork sandwich), a hard cider place, the aforementioned apple cider donuts, and a little general store selling jams and whatnot. At first glance, there didn't appear to be a ton of seating but if you walk a bit further up the hill, past the grassy patch, there's a good amount of benches and tables. Apple cider donuts review: 4/5? Not as fresh or as warm as I've sampled at other orchards but these had a healthy dusting of cinnamon sugar and a great chew. Downing two of these bad boys was not a great decision for the ride back (plus I had a cheeseburger). Cheeseburger: 4.5/5. Just a bun, patty, cheese, ketchup but listen, this was one of the best cheeseburgers I've had in a while. The bun was perfectly buttered and toasted and there was just the right ratio of meat to bread to condiments. I felt really, really food-drugged after eating this and the donuts. All the burger needed was some pickles. The only thing I didn't love about the layout is the area with the food truck had only three or four tables (no chairs) and faced the row of Porta Potties but I get that space is at a premium. There was also a sizable hill to get from the food truck to the area with tables/benches/donuts, which made walking in cycling shoes an enormous pain, though that's a me-problem.

(The rooms were not just brisk; they were frigid. It's a very old building) from the 1700s or 1600s and the birthday was in the Fall.) I gave my space heater to my mother who was in her late 80's to keep her room warm. In the meantime I was just trying to get the edge off the freeze in my room so I turned on the iron and placed it on a porcelean sink over a tile floor. It worked a little. My sister came by and I mistakenly bragged about how I was staying warm by keeping an iron on. She flipped out. I don't know why? (She never wants to see me problem solving, and self reliant or happy? she was stressed and unhappy?) and she went to management and claimed I was going to "burn the place down". Management came to the door. and asked me to turn off the iron. But unfortunately they didn't have any more room space heaters. So, the next day I decided I was not having much fun with family and birthday parties and decided to leave. The direct sneer at me on one of the manager's faces is what I remember as I left. Yeah. I think they could use some updating and insulation so the rooms aren't 50 degrees without a space heater. And it would be nice if they had enough space heaters for every room. Snobbery can only get you so far in terms of being a decent service.
