    "Large" Oxtail. Never again.
    Yelp R.

So ordered a "large" oxtail and you can see what I got. Now listen... I'm overweight. So I appreciate the thoughtfulness of the staff in giving me such a small portion. That said, in this economic crisis, calories are an important commodity, so I'm looking for as many CPD (calories per dollar) as possible. This way of I lose my job I'll be able to make it through the summer with minimum sustenance. So please.. I implore you the owners of this restaurant, for the love of compassion, the hungry are coming to your store to fill their belly. Please, please don't treat your starving patrons like this again. Iean come on. I paid 16.50 for this. If your large was 12 bucks it wouldn't be that bad. That said the patty was the BOMB DOT COM! So you've saved yourself from a negative review. EDIT: Sorry people but I noticed that another reviewer got 3 dumplings in their oxtail dosh (was it even a large?) and I only got 1 dumpling, so I got salty and took away a star. To see an example of a real *large* oxtail meal check my review on Flames on Blue Hill Hill Ave!

Top: Oxtail w/beans and rice and vegetables Bottom: sweet and spicy chicken

Excellent! Ordered pick up from Grubhub and it was ready in less than 10 minutes. The portions were generous and the food was AMAZING. Oxtail was tender and flavorful. Medium sized portion (shown below) was more than enough!Sweet and spicy chicken was incredibly tender and fell off the bone. Beef patties were also great. Highly recommended!

Food has been outside for hours and nobody called to say delivery was here. Who the hell did this?
    Jay J.

Waited 2hrs for a delivery of curry shrimp and white rice with salmon and veggies. We live about 10 minutes from the place so thats already an issue. On top of that, they claimed to have "delivered" the meal to my address, but we did not receive a phone call telling us delivery was here. So they gave our food to some dickhead i assume. And this is the second time ive ordered from here just to not receive any food. I'm not fucking with this place, that honestly turned me off but if you do be careful with your card. I would rate it a 0 if i could. Update hours later: the delivery driver left the food on the porch so i had 2 cold ass plates of food sitting in 30 degree weather. Fuck these people, honestly.

    Large cabbage plate

Was excited to order oxtail since it's one of my favorite Jamaican dishes but when I got the order and opened my plate I saw that my oxtail plate was 3/4 of cabbage with about 4 pieces of oxtail meat. Tried to call and tell them what happened and was rudely scolded by the owner telling me what she put when in the picture below you can see what I got. Shouldn't have been called oxtail plate should be called large cabbage plate with small oxtail. Never ordering from them again. Disappointed at its finest.

    Fried Dumpling

So... I just ordered here for the first time off of Uber Eats. I ordered the Saltfish and Ackee with boiled banana and a side of fried dumpling. The plate size was good for the amount, unfortunately I didnt take a photo before I started eating it. Didn't think I was going to be writing a review. Thank goodness I decided to get two fried dumplings instead of one because they were baby sized. Anywho... on to taste. Hands down one of the worse saltfish and ackee I have ever had. I think they saute celery with it or some unusual seasoning. There was something really off about the taste. I attached a photo of the plate for reference. It is about all I could eat with the help of my one year old. Overall I give this place 2 stars on flavor alone. Food came hot, adequate portion size , and well packaged. However, I will not be ordering from them again.

    Medium jerk chicken
    Truth R.

Clean place. I sat inside to eat. I like that it's not just a takeout place. I ordered a medium jerk chicken. The rice and peas was delicious. The chicken was good, but it came straight out the oven and didn't have time to rest. I think it will be better next time. Price was very reasonable.

Ackee & saltfish was watery. Barely any saltfish. No provisions that went with it. Just not good period.

Some highlights: Garlic shrimp - these were huge and juicy with the perfect amount of garlic flavor. Having this on the rice and beans was heaven on a place and I had several helpings of this! Chicken - this was a little spicy for me, but that's just a personal preference. I could tell that this was well seasoned and people more tolerant to spice would love this - the chicken was still juicy and saucy. This also pairs well with the rice and beans! Plantains - nothing over the top but a nice sweeter bite to balance out the plate. Yummy! Mac n cheese - this was one I wasn't super crazy about - I think a bit more cheese would have been nice here but it wasn't a bad bite. All in all, 4/5 as there were some dishes that didn't blow me away, but the garlic shrimp with the rice and beans is to die for. Would happily have this again or go to the food truck location to order it!

Service was quick, seeing as you order from the counter. We ordered the jerk chicken plate with plantains and mac & cheese, and the oxtail plate with curry vegetable stew and rice & beans! The jerk chicken was tender and cooked nicely but wasn't the jerk flavor I was used to. It was a wet sauce instead of a dry rub and kinda tasted like teriyaki...? The plantains were normal, nothing crazy. Mac and cheese was lowkey yum, not too thick. Oxtail was better than the jerk chicken flavor-wise but the meat wasn't cooked as well. The meat didn't fall off the bone like other oxtail does :( The sauce was also a bit thin so it didn't coat the meat as well. The rice & beans were solid, had flavor to it and was even better with the sauce from oxtail. The veggie stew was good too but again, nothing crazy. Overall, I was very satisfied with my meal but unsure if I would go again. There are so many other places in/near JP that I would try first. Still, if you're looking for fast casual Jamaican food, check this place out!!

It's a small, family-owned restaurant that's half Filipino and half Jamaican, run by a Filipino Tita and her Jamaican husband. She learned how to cook Jamaican food to remind him of home, which honestly makes the whole place feel even more meaningful. The Filipino dishes I tried were authentic and tasted homemade -- the kind of food that feels like it came straight out of your auntie's kitchen. The Jamaican food was also delicious (I can't personally vouch for authenticity there), but everything we had was flavorful and satisfying. It's a great, casual, order at the counter spot -- and it's right next to a Filipino market, which makes the experience even better. I love supporting small businesses, especially ones that represent my culture. Bright Light is the kind of place that deserves the love.

I appreciated how much this place leans into both cultures from decor showcases both cultures to their balanced menu featuring dishes from both. There is ample seating at this place and dont let the construction outside deter you because they are open. We ordered the cheese manakish to start, and this might have been my favorite dish. Balanced with two types of cheese with a light airy texture to it kept it from feeling too dense. The pita its on is crunchy and thin, and theres a drizzle of sauce, likely some form of pesto, that cuts the flavor making it a truly enjoyable dish. We also ordered the chicken kebabs and roasted jerk chicken. The kebabs were a great portion with tender chicken, some greens, and grains. I personally could have used more tzakai, but thats a personal preference. Overall though, the meal did not feel heavy and I left feeling full but not overtly stuffed which I was happy with. My husband's jerk chicken was a sizable dish. The chicken was tender and fell right off the bone, and the pilaf had a nice flavor to it. Overall we really enjoyed our meals. The service can take some time, but its a super small staff so just be patient.
