I took a gamble by trying Blue Mountain instead of my usual spot but unfortunately the gamble did not pay off. I ordered a beer patty with cheese, a small stewed chicken with white rice and veggies and a large jerk chicken with rice and peas and veggies. Beef Patty: no cheese, which was really disappointing since i paid $1.00 more for said cheese ($4.50) Chicken: I made the mistake of putting the jerk chicken and the stewed chicken on the same plate because i swear it was impossible to taste which was which. And there were so...many...BONES that it was like eating fish!! They were tiny bones, round bones (vertebrae?)slivers, scapulas, etc...hardly any meat. Blue Mountain was awesome. I was in Boston for my daughters graduation, so where I live in San Francisco we don't have great Caribbean food options. If you are not a fan of heat, this is the place for you. This place appears to use a liquid marinade instead of a dry rub. It was relatively mild in terms of heat, and flavor. I suppose spiciness makes it more in your face, and generally seems bolder. Maybe not ideal for someone like me, but definitely makes it more approachable for those who like their taste buds cool like the sunglasses emoji. I'd also like to add, that the flavors seemed very similar to a "Caribbean Jerk" sauce/marinade I got at Stop and Shop. Don't take this as a bad thing, that sauce is pretty tasty. The oxtail were okay but the beans and rice left an after taste in my mouth, I think it is an acquired taste. It may have been the cloves which I do not like. They are also stingy with the oxtails and added dumplings to the oxtail. It makes you think you have a decent portion of meat when there are actually dumplings hiding under.. First off, being a part of the Boston community for 27 years I have never been to a Jamaican restaurant that had such great customer service !!!! I was able to quickly order my oxtails, curry chicken, beef patties, and more. Each part of my order was met with an "of course" and a pleasant smile which automatically made me know I would be back in the near future ( tomorrow). However, what really hooked me was the actual flavor and decadence of the food. The alluring smell does not do this establishment the justice it deserves. All the food, piping hot but not scalding enough to have to toss in your mouth. Oxtails fresh off the bone as if you woke up to your West Indian mother's Sunday best. Rice and peas that carry love in each grain. And provisions touched by the hands of God himself. From the patty to the Mac and cheese I do not ever think that my stomach has had such pleasantries when it comes to Jamaican food in this city and now both my stomach and my mind have no shadow of a doubt when we search for a quench of hunger. Called ahead and was greeted by a cheerful man who told me, no problem come on down and they'll get an order ready for me. When I entered the shop I was immediately greeted by the owner. She was so kind and warm and got my food ready, piling on a crazy amount of rice and peas, jerk chicken, veggies, and an added side of plantains. The beef patty was nostalgic as heck and tasted perfect, with a yellow, flaky crust. The jerk chicken was the star. Not too hot, but wonderfully spiced. There was just so much flavor.
