Super excited to try this place as there are very few Jamaican places. If you make Jerk at home like we do or enjoy the flavors of a complex Jerk sauce...then the Jamaican Kitchen is just average. It's a take-out place with plenty of tables and offers variety. Service was fine, I simply ordered and sat down. Check it out to sample their jerk sauce and satisfy a tiny craving, but you need to set the bar low for flavor. Its not spicy and first I thought I ordered the wrong level. My meal consisted of the plantains (not very ripe), jerk wings and jerk pork.

Nobody greeted me. Nobody brain thought to say atleast a "hi" to a paying customer first and last. These people look white, who are they very uncultured they don't know how to service black customers without a greeting, maybe if im white I get a hey welcome to Jamaican kitchen what can we do for you. Good mediocre it's Vernon a wyte town what do anyone even a puppy expect. Large jerk chicken meal $15.88. First and last for some things! This taste like white people no offense I love my white folk use the cookbook to make this no Jamaican in history use cookbook pass down from family. This taste like fake commercial Jamaican food l I didn't see a Jamaican insight.

First time trying them, and was disappointed and we ordered through Door Dash which isn't cheap. This is the only pic I took of the fried chicken we were given.. Dry, hard couldn't even try to eat it

It was a surprise found while in town for a tournament. I had to come back for lunch the next day! I had the brown stew chicken for dinner and it was delicious! My friend had the curry goat and it was great as well. We were so impressed we told other people we were travelling with to come! We haven't been able to find jamaican food comparable down in fairfield county for sure! Came back for lunch the next day for curry chicken and rum cake. Will def stop here again next time i am in the area! Abt people complaining that it's only 4 pcs of chicken... it's 4 large pcs of chicken on the bone. It's not 4 tiny bite size pcs. Food is not free :) i also ate a large portion over 3 meals. i might have expected lower prices since it's upstate, but it was well worth it!

Be warned- pure and unadulterated ripoff @ Rocky Hill location The "large" stew chicken for $13.99 has 4 pieces of meat which were mostly bone and 1 piece of chicken skin(see pic). The "chicken" on the left and right side of my plate are literally just the leg bones lmao- you can't make this stuff up! (see other pic) The "large steak" for $14.59 has 8 pieces of bite sized meat which tasted suspiciously like beef and nothing like steak. There's profit and then there's price gouging. Never again

Came in on a Saturday morning because I wanted a beef patty for breakfast. The place was empty (obviously because most people would resort to pancakes but I digress). The lady at the register was very tentative and eager to answer any questions we had. We placed our orders to go and was told it'd be a six minute wait which was nothing too crazy. When the food came out it was nice and hot and ready to devour. The contents were still warm when we got home so that was great. The beef patty had to be sandwiched between the thick coco bread and boy did that fill me up until dinner time. The beef patty had a nice spicy to it and was pretty flavorful. The sweet plantains were incredibly ripe and so so so delicious. The mac and cheese seemed to be prebaked and simply reheated when ordered, but had good flavor. All in all, for a quick breakfast stop, great experience. I would come back during normal eating hours to try more of their menu... and order those plantains again!

Stopped in quick on the way home to try some beef patties and boy was I impressed. The second we walked in, we received such a warm welcome from every single staff member. The place is absolutely spotless and super adorable. We ordered our beef patties, I got mild and my boyfriend got spicy. The girl helping us out offered us some coco bread which we had never heard of before. She gave us each a huge piece and it was absolutely delicious with our beef patties. We took a look at the menu along with some other reviews online and it sounds like we REALLY need to come back for dinner! Can't wait to come back and support this great little place! read more

Couldn't wait for this restaurant to open and when I finally went for lunch I will say that the food was good. I got jerk chicken with the rice and peas and it was good but what really made the meal was the sauce. That sauce was delicious with the right amount of heat and spices. The only downfall is the price for what you get in a single plate. Other restaurants I've gone to give you rice, your choice of meat and 1 or 2 side items for a flat price. I found Jamaican Kitchen to be a little pricey for an order of only rice and chicken. read more

This is one of my more favorite lunch spots not to far from work. I enjoy the food and the service. I tend to meet up with work friends or even an army buddy and just relax. Usually quite busy but worth the minor wait. read more

When construction just began, I was very excited that Vernon would be getting some " seasoning". However, I found the food to be lacking in flavor. Typically JA food is spicy and full of flavor, this was not the case. I believe the food is lacking flavor to service those who cannot handle spice. I wish I had better things to say :/ read more

Perhaps the worst excuse for "Jamaican food" I've ever had. I love to give credit where credit is due, however the best thing about this restaurant is the ambience and customer service. The food is not up to par with what should be considered real Jamaican food. I ordered the wings (which were about room temperature) and the sauce used on it tasted like burnt pot scrapings. The poor excuse for jerk chicken (doused in a bland mystery sauce) also had no flavor, no spice, and tasted like a microwave dinner. To be honest the only reason they managed 2 Stars was their beef patty and the aforementioned customer service. I hope their food continues to improve, they seem like very nice people, however I cannot see myself eating there again. read more

Friendly, knowledgeable staff in a restaurant with a laid-back vibe! Chicken stew and jerk chicken were amazing, falling off the bone and full of flavor. Rice and spicy beef patty were on point. Dumplings were perfection. The chef asked us to try his homemade spicy sauce which we loved, spicy and sweet. This place will be on our regular rotation of favorite restaurants! read more

I'm just finishing my dinner here and I cannot complain one bit! The tastes are fresh, and exhilarating, and for those who like the extra kick, the crushed red pepper sauce they offer definitely spices up your dinner! The rice and beans with cabbage were delicious. Rice was cooked perfectly. The oxtail was good, but as always, you wish the oxtail could be meatier because the way it retains the flavor is AMAZING! I also had jerk chicken and it was delicious, moist, and flavorful. I suspect that they are holding back on being full-force with their spices to appeal to a broader customer base, but regardless, it is good, fresh, incredibly tasty food. This place has definitely created a buzz in Vernon. People are constantly coming in and their reactions to the sight and smell of the food is all great! read more

I can not believe how unauthentic this food taste. I ordered 2beef patties which tasted uncooked and like flour no crisp to it at all ; so gross, oxtail wasn't tender threw out before I could even finish, jerk chicken only tasted like smoke no flavor and last but not least I really enjoyed the stew chicken not the Best But very decent. Overall I will never go back very disappointed read more

My husband and I have been here several times and each time it's a wonderful experience. The people working their magic behind the counter are great and very friendly. Still wonderful and consistently yummy. The staff/owner/chef are SO nice, always put a smile on my face. Cocoa bread and beef patty both delicious! So good! Perfect experience. Service was amazing, restaurant was clean, food was out of this world. We were there last night for my birthday and had the oxtail, curried goat, jerk chicken, wings, curried chickpeas, coco bread, a beef patty, rum cake, and a sample of festival. All I can say is wow. The pulled pork sandwich is amazing. The pork was tender and full of flavor. The coleslaw was fresh and the roll was soft. The portion was large and I can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu. Vernon is lucky to have this gem of a restaurant in town. read more

Driving on 84 on a long journey. It's time for lunch. Yelp directs us here. Hooray! Super tasty goat curry with just a little heat. Tasty chickpea curry. And don't miss the meat patties. Stopped there for lunch yesterday. Had the beef patty and cocoa bread and an order of wings with a little jerk sauce. Must say they were some of the best wings I ever had. Bravo! Smokey taste and great spice. They would have been great without the sauce. The bread was very fresh and very good. I opted for the non spicy patty. I was expecting a little spiciness to it I mean its Jamaican food however it was exactly that, non spicy. Very good lunch all around. Thought the wings were just a little pricey for the amount they gave you. That is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. Next week I will try the Jerk pork or goat read more

A great new addition to the Vernon area. I've been here several times and the food was really good every time. The jerk chicken, curry chicken and stew chicken are all excellent. The rice and beans are also very good and the cabbage is delicious. The Jamaican beef patty was the only mediocre item. It was pretty doughy and not as flavorful as I'd hoped. The restaurant is very clean and has several tables, although it's mostly a take out place. The staff is also great- very friendly and helpful. For our first drink. We are having a French Martini made with Grey Goose vodka, Chambord and a splash of pineapple juice. This taste great! They don't use garnishes here and I don't really care. It's well balanced! For our first item, we're having the House Salad. This is made with iceberg lettuce snd a little tomato. This ginger dressing is the best! I love this stuff! For out next item, we ate having an "Oki salad." A traditional Samurai Salad is a Japanese-inspired dish featuring grilled firm tofu, mixed greens, and a pungent ginger dressing. Key ingredients include firm tofu, soy sauce, white wine vinegar, grated fresh ginger, sesame seeds, green onions, and tomato slices. It is often garnished with toasted sesame seeds and served with a soy-ginger vinaigrette. Well, whatever it is! It's quite good! Wow! For our next item, we are having the miso soup. Miso soup is a traditional Japanese staple, combining savory, umami-rich miso paste with a dashi (fish or kelp) broth, typically featuring tofu, seaweed (wakame), and green onions. It is simple to make in under 20 minutes, offering a nutritious, comforting side dish known for aiding digestion, high protein, and mineral content. This is nice and hot! Huge bowl too! For our next item, we are having edamame. Edamame is an East Asian dish prepared with immature soybeans in their pods, which are boiled or steamed, and may be served with salt or other condiments. Red caviar, also known as salmon roe or ikura caviar, is a popular seafood delicacy that comes from salmon and trout roe. It's known for its bright orange color, medium-sized eggs, and thin shells. Different types of salmon roe have unique tastes, colors, textures, and sizes. A "taste of the ocean." What's better than that! For our next item, I'm having the Spicy Eel and Shrimp Hand Roll. For our last drink, we are having the Caribbean Joy. This is made with Bacardi rum, pineapple and lemon juice. This is good! It's the rum version of the last drink! It's quite good! For our entree, we are having the Volcano Roll made with peppery salmon, gently fried, spicy tuna and red/hot sauce. Look at the presentation! OMG! For dessert, I have no idea what's coming out! Since covid restrictions lifted, we've resumed dining out but somehow forgot about Utsav. We remembered yesterday and last night we finally returned. I am very pleased to report that Utsav is still as great as ever! The food is still exceptionally good and the service is still excellent. We were the last couple left in the restaurant and rather than try to hurry us out, one of the owners and chef, Thankachan Joseph a/k/a Joe, came out of the kitchen and joined us in engaging conversation about Indian cuisine and his restaurant. It truly was a most enjoyable dining experience! If you haven't dined at Utsav or if you just haven't gone recently, you owe it to yourself to go and enjoy delicious Indian cuisine, in delightfully colorful surroundings with excellent service. No mention of it on the menu, by the server, or posted anywhere in the restaurant. Not huge differences - 6 to 15% increases, but I feel a bit ripped off to be shown one price and charged another. I know the restaurant reserves the right to change prices at any time without notice. I reserve the right to go somewhere else.

I've gone to many Jamaican restaurants and this one, by far is one of the best. Good size portions, reasonably priced and the staff is extremely friendly. If you want to try something, they can give you a sampling as well. One thing not mentioned on their add, is that the dishes come with steamed cabbage as well as rice, with or without beans and they are excellent! My very favorite is the Jerk Pork. I took a beef patty to go, which are from NY and that was excellent as well. Their food won't disappoint you! read more

My wife and I just visited and WOW! I got the large combo of Jerk Chicken and Curry Goat... it was delicious!!! My wife got the brown chicken stew and Oxtail which she loved as well. What a great new spot in Vernon, if you have not been here yet... what are you waiting for? We also got some beef patties which are excellent! Jamaican kitchen is an excellent Caribbean restaurant with food flavored to the bone. My family comes from the islands and to see that people think there are better places than Jamaican Kitchen in the area probably have never been to the islands, and tasted authentic west Indian food.
