He tiled my primary shower without hardy board or any waterproofing and left the shower valve leaking behind the wall. Chris Campbell of Hill Country was very helpful at first. He revealed to me how poor the other contractors work was and showed me mold infested walls surrounding my shower. At that point, I released the other contractor and engaged Chris to complete the work. Chris/Hill Country started out fast and furious, but quickly turned to weeks with no action at my house. He was also quick to demand payments, but never sent workers. The workers that did show up all complained that Chris does not pay them fairly nor on time. Hearing that started to explain why it was so hard to get workers out to my house to finish the job. There were no fewer than three different subs sent out to cut one arch in a wall between my kitchen and dining room. The last sub was of such poor quality that he redid the arch twice, and it still looks like a kindergartener did it. I had ordered some cabinets for this same space, which Chris said were ready weeks ago. But once the arch was "completed" he said there was an issue with some of the doors and that they would be delivered the following week. A week later, the cabinets never showed up. I still have never seen these cabinets. The more I pressed Chris and asked for explanations and schedules, the more he ignored me. He does not respond, he will not answer his phone, he does not come out and check the work of subcontractors. He talks a really good game but does not deliver. Do not use Chris Campbell of Hill Country Flooring . You will regret it.

We began working with Hill Country Flooring earlier this year to help us remove carpet in our…read moredining room and replace it with laminate flooring. When we first reached out to them, they were very responsive and polite. Shaine gave us a quick estimate. He was very good at helping us choose flooring. There were a few delays in scheduling our service, but nothing that was a red flag. On the day of install, the worker showed up before Shaine and unfortunately spoke no English. While not a problem, we do not speak Spanish and had trouble communicating right off the bat. When Shaine arrived we hoped he'd be able to communicate with this worker. But Shaine spoke about as much Spanish as we did. Which was our first red flag. After pulling up the carpet, the worker only used a small amount of leveler which was our second red flag. When the worker finished placing all the panels and left, we immediately noticed the majority of the floorboards were loose (third flag). We messaged Shaine and didn't hear back for several days (all the red flags). Finally he returned our calls and sent the worker back to our house. The worker returned, pulled up all the floor boards, and added more leveler. This still didn't help. I'll give the worker credit, he stayed at our house until 8pm trying to fix it the best way he could. But clearly he was out of his element with this material. We texted Shaine and asked him specifically to come back and look at the issue and see what could be done. That is when he stopped responding. Both my husband and I called, texted, and reached out with every form of communication for weeks with no response. Finally, we called three other contractors we trust to come look at the issue. They all were appalled by what they saw. The type of laminate we ordered required a pad to go underneath that was not mentioned to us at all. They also did not pull up the baseboards to allow the floors to go all the way to the wall, leaving gaps on the edges of our flooring. All three contractors told us that Hill Country Flooring screwed up this job and they recommended we contest the charges for materials on our credit card. Which we did. While we waited on their response we discovered lawsuits that have been filed against Chris the owner. We've discovered that in the past two years they have screwed over multiple contractors and customers. It looks like Chris is attempting to open an media consulting firm now that is also getting called out for being a scam. I looked at all the reviews and I saw they had overall a good rating. I wish I had looked at the most recent reviews. I would have clearly seen how far this company has fallen.

Several inch thick solid ice around the trim of every single window in our house. We reached out to them immediately because we were still under warranty. It took them until the end of May to even come and look at it, keep in mind the GC lives one street over, absolutely no excuse. First the owner told us "he's never seen this issue in any house he's ever built" then he said in an email "That's why you don't put aluminum windows in a barndominium". Why is this their standard window you put in your houses then? I wouldn't even put these crappy windows in a barn, we also would've spent more money on better windows had they told us we can never redo windows in a barndominium! We have reached out MANY times only to be ignored and ghosted by the builders. They were trying to avoid us as much as possible until our warranty was out so they didn't have to fix their mistake. After the May visit to our house they wanted us to purchase a $3,000 dehumidifier to prevent the windows from doing this. Prior to the $3,000 dehumidifier we were told after arguing with them about why should we have to pay for their wrong doing they did agree they would cover this for us. Also the Wayne's air owner called me telling me that they didn't even believe the AC was the problem, at that they agreed it was a window installation issue. Then Mike the owner told me "they never said that" yes they did! The problem has not helped AT ALL. Also when he FINALLY came to look at our windows and AC in May he said we just need to keep our AC at 60 degrees to avoid higher humidity, really? Are you going to pay for my AC bill every month? Last week the first day of the temperatures dropping we are left with solid ice once again around every window of our house. We have reached out to builder yet again, he responds once or twice to make you think you are going to get help then ghosts you. These windows are a piece of crap and not worth the money we spent building this house. This was supposed to be our forever home and this is a continuing issue, not to mention the amount of mold we have around every single window and has ruined our dry wall. We would not recommend this builder to anyone and we will be taking legal action.

Hubby called and we drove straight there. Greeted by Matthew & Katy and let me just say, we were blown away by all the information we received in the hour we were there. They showed us around and answered all of our questions, and we had a ton! We learned so much and feel very comfortable about moving forward with the building process. They have a plans guy they work with and also a local banker that specializes in barndo loans... it's almost a one stop shop in this little community. Matthew is super knowledgeable about EVERYTHING! Very authentic and not pushy. My husband and I both automatically had a great feeling about them. These days you can hardly get a call back or friendly service anywhere. This company has it all. We will definitely be back and would recommend them to anyone. So many options for building and they do it all from land clearing, driveways... Great business all around! Hopefully next time the dogs will be there. :)

Unprofessional Conduct by Lonestar Contracting - Abandoned project before completion…read more Lonestar Contracting based in Lago Vista/Leander, Texas, is owned by Mike Nichols. Mr. Nichols' company was contracted for several projects at my house in August 2020. The comments below are about the painting and staining of most of the exterior wood and metal surfaces and some interior wood surfaces of the house. On 9/28/20, Mr. Nichols notified the me by text message that he would not complete the painting and staining work on my house due to an issue with the new paint on the steel beams. He would not answer phone calls to discuss the issues and possible options or his reasoning for quitting the project. He would only respond by text and email. Paint issues with the steel beams: The house has steel beams supporting the deck that have been previously painted without issue. The existing paint had been in place for 10+ years. Overall, the paint was in good condition for its age. It did have some spots on the metal that needed sanding where the paint had flaked off. After Mr. Nichols' company painted the beams, the new paint could be scraped away in places using a fingernail with very light pressure. Mr. Nichols was notified by text and with a picture on 9/10/20 that the paint was coming off the beams in places. He came onsite the week of 9/14/20 and directly observed the issue. On 9/24/20 Mr. Nichols was onsite and talking with his sub-contractor about the issue. He communicated that he was trying to determine a solution. He did say that the only attempt to resolve the issue at that point was light sanding in spots. There had been no other attempts to test possible solutions to the paint peeling. Abandoned job because it was more cost effective for Lonestar Contracting: On 9/28/20 Mr. Nichols communicated by text that he could not determine a solution for the paint peeling and that "It's more cost effective to let you have the work, labor and materials we've already completed and not bill you." While he did not bill me for the work completed, he left the interior and exterior painting and staining of the wood surfaces incomplete. He did not provide any cost estimates of potential solutions for the steel beams before abandoning the job. He offered no resources for people that may be able to help with the steel beams. He ran into a difficulty on the project and then abandoned the job because "It's more cost effective" for him. He chose himself rather than helping his customer resolve the issue. He left the job partially done. He could have at least had an in-person conversation with me about the beam issues. He could have completed the painting and staining of the wood surfaces and been paid for that portion of the project. Instead he chose to abandon the job by text because it made sense for him. He also removed the new paint on 9/24/20 from the location so now I do not have the paint formula codes needed to match the paint that was used. It was requested that he provide a picture of the paint formula codes and he has not responded to that request. Mr. Nichols communicated that because he was not going to bill me for the incomplete work, he was absolved of any further responsibility. That is true, he is not billing or seeking to collect money for that part of the job. I am not seeking any sort of remedy or performance from him. I am sharing this information with the community because it is important to know how he handled this situation.
