Took this home, and it was absolutely Amazing. BBQ sauce was great,with just a hint of spice. we had the Sadie, which was a loaded stuff, baked potato, and I had the Texan. Whole Lotta food that was the best BBQ that I have had in a very long time especially in take home and not badly priced very fair and reasonable. Highly recommend. Spoke with the manager they have the BEST barbecue I've ever had in 30 to 40 years. Nice large portions extremely delicious flavor. I can't say enough about this. I was totally blown away. Humongous spilling over the sides meaty tender and super tasty brisket potato!!!! I can't remember a better one I've ever had! It could feed 2 normal people, and it stuffed me full as a tick! I had the Sadie baked potato, burnt ends, and tried a bacon wrapped jalapeno. The burnt ends were too tender, I like mine more crispy. I would skip the bacon jalapeno, but that potato was fabulous! I came because of the photos and it was spot on!! Bonus was it tasted as good as it looked! I would definitely return and try the huge sandwich next! The cashier was super friendly and also said the Arlington location is not affiliated with this location, and this location was much preferred by their customers. This is the best Jambo. The "sandwich" is basically all the meats and 2 slices of bread. We got 2 and it probably weighed 6 pounds. The service is quick and friendly. The place is clean. It's a little place, things are broke, seats are ripped, it just adds to the character of being in someone's kitchen. read more

Arrived at 4:53pm on Saturday. We were immediately informed that they were supposed to be closed. We quickly ordered and paid for a 3 meat plate - $22. Again, we were informed they were supposed to be closed and they would have our food out shortly. The food was prepared, we were rushed out the door, and the employee locked it right behind us. Another lady walked up to the door (it was only 4:57) and was unhappy it was closed before the posted time of 5:00pm. We opened our food to find we had only been given 2 meats instead of the 3 we paid for. Ribs didn't have any smoke flavor, jalapeño sausage was mushy and no spice from the jalapeño. Okra was good. We won't be returning based on the food alone. Additionally, we didn't get what we paid for. read more

Ate there on Friday ... the 2-bone pork chop was Excellent. It was big, tender and very flavorful. I also got the Texas Corn and will again. It's a country diner (wooden bench tables and plastic ware), not a fancy restaurant, which means it's comfortable and friendly. The service was excellent also, everything was done with a smile and an attitude that said "we are glad you're here and we would like you to come back". We will come back to this diner and we'll bring friends with us. You need to try it!!! read more

This is by far the best barbecue I've had since I've lived in Texas. I've been searching for a little over a year now. I stumbled upon this place while I was out running errands and the aroma coming from the building instantly caught my attention so I had to stop. I'm so glad I did. Jerry and Jambos Original BBQ Shack did such an amazing job catering our crew lunch for 75 hungry construction workers a couple weeks ago! The food was incredible, plentiful, and prepared with love! One of our guys said the peach cobbler was the best he's had since his grandmothers many years ago he said he's been on the hunt to find a comparable peach cobbler and was so happy to have the opportunity to enjoy Jambos peach cobbler Everything else was delicious as well! Would give it 10 stars if I could for good. This is hands down the best BBQ around in my humble opinion but hey it's Texas so everyone has a favorite spot. I dream of those bacon jalapeños. Excellent BBQ all around from the Ribs, chicken and brisket. Sausage is just so so. Sides are all excellent and they even have some rocking pickles for free on a mini garnish bar. The location is rustic for sure with limited seating so don't expect anything fancy but sometimes the least fancy places are the places to be. I often love to stop in for a to-go to bring home and always friendly staff and food. Recommend you give it a try! read more

Stopped by Jambo's to pick up dinner after visiting a friend in the area.. The restaurant was small from the outside, but once you walk into the door, there are actually two dining areas with lots of tables. It's a bit odd, as you have to walk through both dining areas until you get to a small window where you place your order. The girl who took my order was nice and patient, as it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to order. The guy fixing the orders was friendly and fast. I ordered 2 sliced brisket sandwiches, a side of baked beans, and a side of cowboy corn. My sandwich was good, not amazing, but good. The bbq sauce was okay, but not as thick as we prefer. My husband said the beans were okay, but he didn't care for the corn. Overall, it was a decent sandwich, full of brisket, and although the sauce had a decent flavor, it was a bit too watery. We may try them again when in the area, but order different sides. read more

What can I say this place is a small hidden gem! There are a couple of these over the metroplex and definitely a good little barbecue shack to stop at! I think they're more exclusive item is the Sadie baked potato loaded with everything. And when I say everything I mean everything from brisket beans a little bit of sausage everything you can imagine and the thing is like almost the size of a freaking football so definitely try that out they do fill up quickly and run out of stuff so we need to get there early most of the time but lately with the Covid I'm not sure what is going on but still don't risk it just show up early read more

This place has changed hands and style a few times and the last time I went I was not as pleased as I was before. I ended up leaving most of my brisket on the plate, gave most of my ribs to other people at my table and the sausage was okay at best and the poppers seemed old or over cooked. This Jambo's location is great. We eat to-go from here about once a month. The brisket and ribs are always delicious. The fried okra is usually good (once it was burnt, but usually very good). The potato salad is only okay. Last night it tasted a little weird (maybe too much vinegar??). I would definitely recommend trying this Jambo's! read more

The staff was friendly and the serving sizes are pretty good . I had rib plate and my friend 3 meat plate with sliced beef , chicken, and chopped beef . I had beans and jalapeño poppers for my sides and he had fries and beans . We shared everything so we could compare . The good first, the poppers were tasty ! A bit spicier than I prefer but that's a personal preference. The ribs were kind of tough, dry or I would have given more stars. Sliced beef and chicken were not dry like the ribs but had no seasoning . Fries were tasty and hot, but it was irritating having to open 10 packs of ketchup. A squeeze bottle would have been nice for those who choose to sit inside . Prices are a bit high but the portions size helps . Didn't care for the baked beans . The last thing worth mentioning was the amount of sauce provided per plate is not enough . You only get one little mini serving I had to go back up to the register and buy more to have enough. Every time I come here the food and service is always exceptional! I remember the first time I convinced my husband to try them out because he is a hard one to please and being a Dallas native he was sure any place in Fort Worth could not deliver quality bbq even though Texas is the bbq capital despite what others may believe. My husband proclaimed this to be the best bbq he had ever tasted and now he won't eat anywhere else. I am so glad I convinced him because my late grandmother made the best bbq and even when I try to mimic him what she taught me, it doesn't have quite the same taste as hers. This was my second visit to Jambo's in I guess four years. I thought I reviewed that visit but apparently not. As I had just dropped a Ben Franklin on a two gallon Japanese maple up the road a piece at Fire Dragon Metro Maples, I was feeling a little cash conscious so instead of my usual BBQ sampling of brisket (fatty end), ribs and sausage I opted for the sliced brisket (fatty end) sandwich...the same thing I ordered last visit several years ago. As I like a little sauce when I have a brisket sandwich it was hard for me to judge the overall quality of their brisket but the brisket was perfectly rendered and tasty. I'm just not detecting a lot of smoke flavor. I'd be interested in knowing how they are cooking here. It looks and tastes to me like they are probably using gas or electric assist smokers. But that's a guess. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. It is BYOB which always suits me just fine. Knowing this I wagged along a Dale's Pale Ale, which I assume Oskar Blues Brewery named after me. They serve on the condiment table tasty pickled japs and sliced pickles along with freshly cut half rings of red onion. If I can find out whether they are cooking on straight wood fired, offset or similar smokers I will visit again and try my usual sampler. If not, even though the meat is tasty, I'm not interested. It is just that my interest lies in pure wood fired smoking. I do not think you will be disappointed by the offerings here. read more

Preface: This is my 600th review on Yelp!, and I'm very pleased for it to be a place like this. Here's to the next 600, and may they be of places this good! Myself and a band of about 10 friends descended on Jambo's on their first weekend of operation as part of a three joint swing for lunch in Ft. Worth. Arriving at the site, we observed an Ole Hickory pit in an outbuilding, and while there was some wood there, it seemed to be getting fed a pretty good diet of gas as well. Perhaps the ratio of wood to gas will change for the better as time goes on. Outside, there are two tables for dining al fresco, and there are 4 or 5 more inside, but make no mistake: this is a small place, and may find themselves doing much more of a take-out business than dine-in. The food (specifically, the meat) was what we were after, though. Our "leader" placed an order for the group and brought it outside where we had taken over those two tables. The haul netted sausage, brisket and pork ribs, all looking very good to the eye. I dove into the brisket first; my measures of good brisket involve (primarily) three aspects: texture, moisture and smoke level. Right away, it was clear that Jambo's had delivered on the first two. The texture was great, with a little "tooth" but nothing even approaching tough or chewy. Very, very few places serve brisket with this texture. Moisture, too, was spot on - this was not dry at all, and it coated the tongue and palette with a wonderful juiciness. The only things lacking were smoke and seasoning; since the texture was so perfect, I can only surmise that the culprit on the smoke was the wood to gas ratio. The seasoning issue, I'm sure, will be even easier to fix; just add more salt and pepper. Again, though, this was very good brisket, more so than the vast majority in the Metroplex, and this within the first week of operation. Moving on to the other meats, the ribs were even better than the brisket. The rub was a little on the sweet side, and the meat was cooked to perfection such that, when a bite was taken, it came cleanly off the bone, but did not FALL off of the bone, which is a sign of overdoneness. The meat was delicious and moist, with a decent smoke flavor, and the seasoning was much closer to perfect here. These were some seriously good ribs. The sausage, on the other hand, did not impress (mostly an Eckrich texture and too light on smoke), but I've heard that the owner is looking to have a custom grind at some point. Finally, in a surprise move, the owner provided a pork chop for our "dessert". This morsel solidified the 4 star review from this reviewer. I don't know if I've ever had a better one. It was almost two inches thick, bone-in and incredibly juicy, yielding to the cut of a plastic knife, yet remaining a perfect medium to medium well inside, and just a tiny bit shy on seasoning on the outside. The meat had a great taste and chew, and it had all of our diners just oohing and aahing. A fantastic topper to an already very good meal. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the sauce; although none of us partook of it with the meat (as is our style), it was a dark brown and sweet affair, likely containing some brown sugar, but not quite Kansas City style. It was quite tasty, but frankly, none of the meats we tried (save perhaps the sausage) would have benefited; the meats were just too good by themselves. Bottom line: This place is out of the way for the vast majority of people, but if you're even close to here, it's worth the trip. If they can get the smoke level up on the meats, they're going to be a serious contender in the high end BBQ business in the Metroplex. read more

Hasn't been open long. Heard about it through the grapevine kinda, went down early right about 11:30, just in case the word was spreading quick and I wanted to avoid not having somewhere to sit. However, smaller than I thought it was, three tables inside, couple outside, wasn't real busy when I went in, one table was open inside, but I sat outside to eat because I was slightly embarrassed to have people watch me pig out on what I would call their signature item, and the reason I went...The Jambo Texan. The Jambo is a good way to try EVERYTHING out. It's sliced brisket, chopped beef, sausage, pulled pork, bologna, and a couple ribs, between two slices of texas toast. It's yuuuge I tell ya, and it's a mere $12 bucks, which in itself is a great deal. I sat down and took it apart, and sampled everything a little at a time. I would say at first that this is, to me, good no nonsense basic Q. I don't believe myself to be a good describer of smoke rings, fat separation, or national smoke rating percentage to high altitude buoyancy factoring or what ever the hell it is, all I know is what I like. It didn't appear to me they use a lot of heavy rubs or spices. The BBQ was all good, it tasted very good on it's own, but I'm a sauce guy and they have two kinds, a sweet and a regular, the sweet was too sweet for me, the regular was just right. I noticed they left a good bit of the brisket char in the mix, which was nice. Big slab of bologna was good, the sausage was good and one of my favorites, although I'm more of a spicier sausage fan. Ribs were good, on that day they weren't fall of the bone, which may be the norm, but still tender and with a little sweet (hickory?) to them. Anyway, the Jambo Texas is enough for two people easily. The bottom piece of texas toast, which basically turns into a sponge, was even good, like soppin' up the gravy darlin'. I think I heard myself oinking while I was eating it. Anyway, still couldn't eat it all. It was good, and I already have several friends who are dying to try it out. I hear they run out of meat almost everyday, so might get there early if you can. This is one of those places I make my day off lunch destination. Also, not open on Sunday or Monday, I got lucky and went on Tuesday without knowing open days.
