This South-Central NJ rest stop, located on the Northbound side of the NJT, is well-equipped and very convenient. The ladies' restroom stood out to me--it has 24 stalls, which is far more than most other rest stops I've been to across the U.S. Definitely helpful when it's busy. (And yes, I said restroom--not bathroom. So many Americans say the word "bathroom" when there isn't a bathtub in sight!) Food choices are solid, with Burger King, Popeye's, Auntie Anne's, and Starbucks all on site. There's also an Applegreen convenience store that sells snacks, drinks, postcards, New Jersey T-shirts and sweatshirts, and a variety of souvenirs. The seating area has around 25 tables, so there's plenty of space to sit down and enjoy your food. Lastly, the Sunoco gas station makes it easy to fill up before getting back on the road, which adds to the convenience of stopping here. read more

Popeyes was incredibly slow and the staff got 6 orders wrong while we were waiting including ours. If you asked me how many people work there I would guess about a third of them maybe less. read more

The last time I stopped at the Last of the Mohican's Rest Stop on the Turnpike was before the renovation. Recently I drove into the service area to gas up the car on drive back home from D.C. to North Jersey. The difference is night and day - it's clean and modern-looking now, and still feels new. So we decided to have Popeyes first all you can not get reward point for your purchase, second hubby had a 2 piece dark the biscuit was hard and I had the 6 piece combo (garlic parmesarm) the chicken was hard like it was over cooked. I only visit here as a rest stop when going to NYC, and it's usually at 4am. I can say this much though, the women's bathroom is very clean. There's always an attendant available. Burger King and other restaurants are closed, except for the convenient store. Cashier super friendly, and works in a timely matter. read more

Went here on Saturday September 28th 2024, we just went to the truck rest area and parked our trailer and car so that we can sleep for a few hours, and we did. for about an hour. Easy in and out, and to get back on the NJ turnpike. read more

Starbucks. The worst ever. They were too busy yapping to service the customers. Then left my warm loaf on the side to get cold to look for butter. Young lady with tattoo on her right hand was touching food with no gloves. Occasionally used thongs. Barista was great. Drink was good loaf cold dry and nasty. Maybe if I sit it in the window the bread will heat up and the butter will melt. Smh read more

This is the first service station upon entering New Jersey on the turnpike coming from the south. It was so busy that you kind of had to push through the crowds. I needed to use the restroom but the line was so long, it was going into one of the shops. While I was waiting in line, women started making another line next to me and it made me look as if I was cutting in line. I decided to turn around and get back on the road, it just wasn't worth it. The service station was a bit gross. I'm kind of glad I didn't use the bathroom there. The whole feel was gritty. read more

I have stopped here numerous times in my life. I am not sure why but this rest stop always seem to be the closest when I am hungry, tired, thirsty, or need to use the restroom. I believe it is also the last rest stop in Jersey going south and obviously, the first rest stop when entering Jersey from Delaware. The stop is usually pretty busy so be prepared. There was one time we were heading to my parents in Queens and there were probably about 50 cars lined up to enter this rest stop-there is a Popeyes here and this is when everyone was going ape shit for a chicken sandwich so I believe that is why it was insane. I have stopped at this Starbucks countless amounts of times. The last time I attempted to get some coffee, there were about 15 people on line and I did not think it was worth it. The last time I stopped here, almost everything was closed here. It was a Wednesday afternoon so I'm assuming rest stops do not provide accessibility to customers if it is not the weekend. Even the market was closed. Not that this place is super dirty but it is not the cleanest rest stop I have been to. There is a line to use the restroom almost every time I have been here. They have a lotto vending machine to use if the market is closed. Burger King has been open many times I have stopped. Starbucks is hit or miss. read more

Honestly, I'm not too familiar with other rest stops on the turnpike, in the past few years I have been to maybe 2 or 3 when I am traveling here. My mom and I stopped here and we both thought the restrooms and interior of the stop were super clean. All of the tables to eat at were clean as well. There is a Starbucks, Burger King, Popeyes, applegrow, an Auntie Annes, and a Carlos bake shop vending machine! I had Popeyes while I was here. This will be posted on both the Service Area's review page and the Service Area's Sunoco review page due to this being from an employee, not a customer: I've worked at four different service area's on the NJ Turnpike over a six year span. I was transferred here from another plaza in mid-September 2023 due to my station getting remodeled. I would have to take the miserable 45-minute drive up to this place trying to figure out what was gonna happen today and little over an hour long drive back to my house trying to figure out why this station is bad as it is, even on my days off, my mind was back at this very plaza to the point where it was not fitting with my everyday mental health. Hell, I even had to get counseling because of how bad it was here. If I was to rate my experience with this very plaza on a scale of 1-10, it's most likely be somewhere in the negatives due to how ungodly bad this place is set up by management. You'd be astounded by the stories you'd hear about how management and a couple of the other employees treated us, I hated my time here cause of how unfairly I was treated. Even the guy's from my station would even agree cause they treated the same way I was, we were treated like we were outcast. Then, when I came back from my vacation, I felt like I worn out my welcome. There was very few people I got along with at this station and it's because most of these employee's are lazy or how poorly trained these guy's are cause of people who are just borderline lazy or due to the plaza constantly being short handed. So, you wind up stopping at this plaza whether it's for your vehicle or food service, please DO NOT take your life frustration's out on them. I'll never show my face there due to the fact that I'll go off like a loose cannon on everyone that did me wrong. read more

This was the second rest stop hubby and I came to on our 15 hour trip to Maine. It was pretty decent. The facility was clean. There were many parking spaces with a large gas station. Hubby and I DID get gas but felt dumb we didn't know the protocol of paying when someone else has to pump it for you. ‍ Anyway, inside there were plenty of food choices such as Burger King, Cinnabon, Popeyes, & Auntie Anne's. They also had a convenience area to purchase small gifts and impulse items. The bathrooms were clean. They also had a picnic area out front to sit and eat in a nice day. There's way better rest stops just a few miles in either direction. This one is in dire need of a facelift. Compared to the others on the route, it's small, and the bathroom follows suit. If you use the women's restroom you know how painful the wait can be, and given that there aren't many stalls it's probably often the case here. The food selection was meh. Absolutely a mess. Bathrooms were okay that's why they get one star. The Starbucks location had about 15 people working. Perhaps it's new- don't open until your staff is ready because the behaviors that were witnessed were a nightmare. These employees working behind the counter.... Touching hair, touching faces, picking in theirs ears, drinking personal beverages, wiping hands on aprons, chewing gum... everything you don't do in food and beverage service was done- nothing short of spitting in someone's drink was done. Then the nerve to argue with the two people in front of me, then myself and the person behind me. Admit you don't know what you're doing and move on. Seriously its a rest stop not a five star hotel. Food selections are OK however severely over priced, Starbucks, Cinnabon , Aunt Annie's, Popeyes Fried Chicken, and Burger King. My son bought a Whopper for $5.39, no fries, no drink, over priced, no combos...priced ala carte. Rest rooms were moderately clean, attendants were on deck. This location did have a store that sold fresh fruit, lottery numbers, yogurt, and juice, that was a surprise. The food court was also clean. This location is filthy and needs a lot of help! Stopped to use the restroom and grab a drink. Over half of the urinals had a big plastic garbage bag over them, the rest of them were disgusting. Disgusting! Can I say that? First rest stop when we entered NJ on our way home (we live in NJ btw). The ladies bathroom was filthy! I was afraid to touch anything. Even the soap dispenser was dirty. Looked like mold to me. The bathroom stalls had no place to hang one's coat or purse. Next we tried to get gas...We pulled up to a pump and it took 5 minutes for someone to come to our car to tell us the pump we were pulled up to wasn't working. Onto another pump and the guy over there said that one wasn't working either. Are you kidding me? This is where our outrageous gas prices are going? I know I am a dork. I am reviewing rest stops. But I can't help it. The rest stops along NJ Turnpike are all named after famous American people (so I am assuming). But, I am not sure if this place is named after James Fenimore Cooper or another James Cooper. They need to clarify this point. If it is named after JFC, then very cool. He wrote the Last of the Mohicans and well, that book is in my top classic 100. This rest stop is blah like the rest of them. Yes, they have toilets so you can relieve yourself, and yes, they have all the disgusting fast food you could ever imagine, but I guess it serves its purpose. We stopped in here close to 9pm, hungry and tired. The food was barely edible (gasp only BK and Popeyes). I asked for them to make me a salad without cheese and I got blank stares. No cheese? Yes, no cheese. Well, that only leaves iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. Like really? WTF. Well its no wonder we have an obesity epidemic. In any case, an order of lettuce and tomato and a coffee and some fries costs $10. Really, this is highway robbery. We need to really rethink our rest stops, because this is just pathetic. These kinds of places just fuel more obesity and unhealthy living. Totally blows. The only redeeming value? I actually like to look up the names of the famous people. Yes this is just a rest stop, however compared to other rest stops we have been to across the country this one is a dump. It's old, it's dirty, it's packed and the food sucks. Luckily we were in our RV so I didn't have to venture into the bathroom or hang out there ver long. Even the Burger King we had there sucked. I'm not sure if this is normal thing up here, but instead of you order and they make your food, they just have all the burgers and fries and what not already wrapped and sitting there cafeteria style. Needless to say our burgers were soggy and fries stale and cost us almost $20. Probably won't be stopping again until we are out of New Jersey. read more

Not the best selection of food - very very little if you don't eat meat or want something even slightly on the healthy side. Even the starbucks seems to be lacking in their normal salad options. The best service area named James Fenimore on the Jersey turnpike. Otherwise pretty typical of the turnpike gas is cheaper than New York and someone will pump your gas for you. Not a great deal but better than northern states. What else is there. Well overpriced Burger King, Popeyes and a Starbucks. All taste like a feast from a Michelin restaurant if you have had nothing else to eat. I do like the Popeyes option which is better than the Roy rogers at other Service areas. Would prefer Dunkin' Donuts over Starbucks but that is a personnel choice. The service areas in the middle of the pike tend to be less crowded. The Vince Lombardi is overcrowded usually so recommendation is to get gas earlier and skip the madness of the later service areas. read more

They have some options for food, coffee, market BUT NOP they are not good at all, bathrooms are very old and not clean at all. First off, the Popeyes did not have the classic chicken sandwich which has never happened to me in all these times that I have ever ordered from a Popeyes.
