Dr Mahooti and staff are great! I had not been to the dentist in a long time. Recently, after eating I noticed what I thought was a hole in my back molar. Thinking that a filling had fallen out i went in. 1st i had my teeth cleaned. The hygienist was friendly and her work was smooth and fast. I was then taken to the other room they have. Dr M. Explained that my tooth had actually broken and that i would need a crown. I know what a "grill" is but had no clue about a crown. The Doc explained everything to me and reassured me it would be an easy procedure. The whole deal took about 1hr. I appreciate that the Dr. Explained everything to me and that he is very gentile and good at what he does. Even the shot i had to have to numb things up was no bad at all. Over all a good experience from A to Z. Oh and for a guy without dental insurance the cost was fair and bearable. read more

A dentist friend of mine (who was not working at Dr. Mahooti office) recommended me to go to his office for my dental needs. So I have been a patient since them (at least 5 years now). Lucky me, I don't have work to be done (just do my 2 yearly cleaning with the wonderful, beautiful and super professional dental hygienist, Julie) but every now and then Dr, Mahooti stop to say hi when I finish the cleaning and check if everything is ok with my dental health. He has a lot of extra services to offer that are not usually covered by the insurance companies, but there is no pressure to have anything done there (as opposite to so many other dental offices). I don't feel I am ripped off and asked to have X-rays done gratuitously. Everybody is very friendly, the service is very professional, office is very modern and nice location close to Qualcomm (even if it is kind of far from me, I keep going again and again, don't feel tempted to change). And, very important for me, the ladies at the office keep calling me the day before to remind me of my appointment! read more

----4/3/09--- Don't come here. Claire, the office manager has left. I made an appointment online one month ahead via the internet. I showed up for my appt and was informed that my appt was cancelled because I didn't call to confirm the confirmation. How ridiculous is that?? What is the purpose of making an appt if you have to call again to confirm??? It's an inefficient technique that's uncommon in the business realm. am not aware of any company where clients must confirm a confirmation. It's time-wasting for both parties. When Claire, the office manager was still employed there, I would receive a reminder call and IF I wanted to make any changes, I can call the office back. That's how an appt should be. I agree with Teddie's review. Dr. Mahooti is rude. He tried to pressure me into doing a lot of cosmetic work. When I refused, he insulted me with, "you're a healthcare professional, you should know better." I WILL NEVER COME BACK HERE NOR WOULD RECOMMEND ANYONE HERE. read more

My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Mahooti for more than 13 years and I'm so surprised about some of the reviews people have left. I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed as well as my husband. I have been in several clinics for just a routine cleaning and none of them work with the efficiency as well as the quality of this clinic. All those other dentist invented that I needed some costly treatments from crowns to braces. I have recommended Dr. Mahooti to several of my friends and family and we all agree that this is one of the best Dr. in San Diego. read more

I've been a long time patient with Dr. Mahooti and I really like the fact that he stays current with the new technology. I'm lowering my rating because I think the customer service has gone downhill in the last 6 months or so. Also I've been trying to call in to pay a bill that I owe and I haven't been able to get through during normal business hours the last 3 times I've called. Then I saw they charged me a $1 finance charge after 30days. What is that about? I guess its supposed to be a slap on the wrist. I still think it is good that Dr. Mahooti is on top of the technology. _________________________________________________ This is the best dentists' office I've ever been to. The staff is friendly and professional. The location is super convenient especially if you work in Sorrento Valley. They also have good magazines in the waiting room, even for guys- about stuff like cars, sports, adventure travel and other manly past times. Unfortunately I never have time to read the magazines because as soon as I sit down they call me in. The main reason I give Dr. Mahooti 5 stars is because he always has the latest technology. One time I came in to get a cavity filled and it turned out I needed an on lay, which is like a crown. Usually you'd have to have 2 appointments - one to get a temporary and one to have the real one put in once it is made a week later. I had mine done all in one visit. There was a computer where Dr. Mahooti designed the tooth. This was hooked up to a machine that made the tooth right in front of me. It had some sort of water cooled precision drills or maybe even lasers, I don't know, but it was impressive and also very manly. Start to finish the whole appointment took less than 2 hours. read more

Stay away. I needed a filling and they tried selling me on the most expensive option. I finally decided on one of the lower cost options. I went in for the treatment and they performed the more expensive option anyways. I can accept that mistakes and wasn't too upset that they got their internal communications wrong. What really upset me is that they insisted on charging me the higher price even though they were at fault. They threatened to take me to collections if I didn't pay. Rather than trying to take them to court and have my credit destroyed in the mean time, I just paid what they wanted and went elsewhere for future treatment. There are plenty of options out there for dental procedures. There's no reason to take a chance somewhere with such questionable ethics. read more

I really despise going to the dentist because I can not stand having metal scrapped against my teeth or my gums poked. Luckily I receive limited scrapping because I religiously brush, floss, etc. With that said, I go to Dr. Mahooti every six months or so to prevent cavities, root canals, etc. The equipment they use is high tech and the latest and greatest available. Because of this equipment, it makes the visit less painful than it should be. Dr. Mahooti is one of those dentist that constantly seeks to improve how he does things around his office from the x-rays to their website. Even though I hate going to the dentist, I would definitely recommend Dr. Mahooti to anyone seeking a dentist. read more

I have been long time customer of Dr.Mahooti and his team. I did not realize the importance of having a good dentist until I chipped my front tooth one summer. Dr. Mahooti specializes in these kinds of cosmetic repairs. He was able to save the core of my tooth and did a fantastic job in creating the onlay/crown. I am an IT professional with aging fillings that broke my teeth. I have lived in NY, LA, SF, DC, Denver and San Diego to name a few cities where I have had dental work done. Dr. Mahooti is team and patient experience is as good as it gets. Dr. Mahooti operates a first rate sophisticated medical experience at a great location one block from the 805 in Sorrento Valley, with a clean and spacious office and very skilled staff. Yeah, I spent a lot of $ there. Had several broken teeth crowned, many fillings replaced and spent more than 10 hours in a chair with various drugs in me and many instruments in and out of my mouth. All of it was easy and virtually painless. I now have all white fillings and whole teeth that are strong enough to chew rocks. Dr. Mahooti also uses the latest online customer relationship management tools to ensure your appt is solid and that you are satisfied with their work from any of their staff. I have never had a problem with their process to ensure that I know about my appointment weeks in advance with reminders several days ahead. Anyone saying otherwise is clueless. Dr. Mahooti has replaced all of the old fillings of my wife's and mine are almost done as well. He repaired the front two previously capped teeth of my son from an earlier bike accident, that had been bothering him from another dentists work. I have been in and out of dentists and orthodontists as most of us. The attention to detail and the no pain we have experienced with our recent dental work is uncommon and to be honest I haven't experience it with anywhere else. I had a cleaning done and for the first time in a real long time (I love coffee) my teeth were really white. Just a couple more silver fillings left for me, but this review can't wait. read more

Dr. James Mahooti, DDS has been my dentist since 1995. My husband and I both go to him. My children, ages 11, 9 and 7 go to him as well. Dr. Mahooti's dental practice is the best and I have recommended him to several friends and co-workers. We get our dental cleanings from Julie who is really efficient and so pleasant. Dr. Mahooti was recommended to me by a client. The office is very warm and friendly. My childhood experiences with dentists has always left me quite apprehensive. I was put at ease and almost pampered. At my first visit, I was informed what the price would be to take care of my dental needs. It was double what anyone else had projected .
