Quality work and beat all the quotes. Have no idea why there's bad reviews. I highly highly recommend working with James. He has American made products and he's a veteran.. I'd rather support a small local business who's been around for decades than a big conglomerate that doesn't care about us. He does quality work and beat every quote we had gotten (and we got many!) we got some shutters and automated coverings. The shutters are gorgeous and locally made which we appreciated. The automated coverings we got are amazing, he explained everything to detail and set realistic expectations of when we could have everything done. He's definitely a decorator and suggested certain colors and matching the flooring to the coverings. We wanted different colors and he did explain why they wouldn't work but we wanted them anyway. Of course he agreed that we could get whatever we wanted and made suggestions based on his expertise. He's very direct, old school no nonsense veteran which I'm sure that's why many people can't handle him. That was ok with us, we could handle it we did research on his work and all we saw was quality and honesty which is exactly what we got. We did get more quotes afterwards for the same coverings that he was offering and they were subpar materials and more expensive, when we asked if there would be other charges they were avoiding answering our questions and lots of bait and switch on their reviews. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have a blunt honest no BS seller than someone who's gonna BS us and end up paying more in money and time just because they were trying to sell us. Very unprofessional, felt rushed in everything. He was showing us features we didn't want and ignoring what we wanted. He also mentioned that he can't bring products in and out, so he asked us to meet him on the street. His arm was in a sling, which I understand. But seeing product out of his truck on the street was just too much. I asked him to slow down and show us what we want, and he started giving me attitude. HIGHLY RECOMMEND I can't say enough good things about working with James Michael. We used his services in our home for plantation shutters, window casings, built ins, and a roller shade for our pano door. We also had him do the epoxy in our garage. From start to finish, everything was great. James is easy to work with, and helped guide us with decisions that we were unsure about. He helped steer us away from design decisions that would not be good in the long run, and provided us with top notch quality products. We were very pleased to be able to get custom, solid wood, made in the USA plantation shutters through him. We had another designer try to tell us that foreign made would be a superior product, but I don't see how that would be possible. Plus, we take pride in supporting our local businesses. We had minor issues with the installation of the plantation shutters and roller shades, and James had someone back out to fix them very quickly. The quality of the craftsmanship in our window casings and built ins is amazing. We have referred a few friends, and they were all very pleased with the results. The carpenter that James uses is friendly and kind, and most importantly - he takes great pride in his work. I am a perfectionist when it comes to things like this. There were some very minor flaws in his work (things most people would not even notice), and I was concerned that I would get some push back when I asked him to correct them. Quite the contrary, he was glad to go back and rework things or refine small imperfections. He insisted that he wanted me to be happy with the end result. Im honesty a little shocked about these negative reviews and question the validity behind them. If you look at their Yelp Rating Distribution you can clearly see that the negative reviewers are inherently impossible to please or just difficult individuals. I have been a repeat customer of JMI for over 10 years now and could not be happier with the work, ideas, and quality of the products I have purchased. James (the owner) has great design ideas and really takes the time and energy to make sure I am getting what I want and truly feel comfortable with my purchase. Over the years, I have purchased wood shutters, wood blinds, black-out shades, sheer verticals, drapes, wood floors, and even reupholstered my favorite couch. Buyer Beware! Job 1 (Spring 2015) - Window Coverings. Great job, most of the coverings were done to perfection. The only issue is one set of drapes was measured 1/2" too long and the owner/designer, James Becker, asked if we could just keep them as-is so he doesn't have to redo them. We agreed. Window sheers for french doors are the best. Reasonable pricing. Job 2 (Spring 2015) - Custom Interior Door Installation - Great job. Door created beautifully and project done on time. Reasonable pricing. Job 3 (Spring 2015) - Interior Painting & Crown Moulding - Mediocre work performed by angry contractors who did not complete the work on-time and also damaged some appliances. Paint crew arrived and immediately balked at the size of the job because James Becker told them the job was half the size it actually was. My husband indicated to the Lead it was an issue he needs to discuss with James. The paint selected by the owner/designer James was god awful. It was the only paint he selected in our entire home and it was terrible. To have a 400-square foot room painted the shade of pale Santa Fe peach circa 1988 was atrocious. After some haggling with James, the room was repainted at no cost to me. A bathroom was painted and the painter did not remove any of the hardware so there was paint all over the base of the towel rack mounts, on the toilet paper holder, etc. The painter didn't even remove the paper blinds in the windows and painted the window sills with the blinds in and there was paint all over the paper blinds and some paint missing on the sills. Also, the painter painted our laundry room and decided to stand on our appliances and the top of our 1-year old $1500 dryer is covered in pock marks. James said he would purchase us a replacement panel if we sent him the model and part information. We sent it to him, followed-up and still no replacement part. Regarding the crown moulding, there were issues in dealing with the installation crew. Besides the fact they peed allover our bathroom floor. There were gaps in crown moulding that were finally addressed after my husband took a lot of time walking through the home to inspect and then had to explain to the crew that the gaps are not supposed to be there and had to prove his engineering experience before they relented to add a few more nails and caulking to address the gaps. Had we not pushed, we would be dissatisfied with the crown moulding like our neighbors are, who used the same crew. Job 4 (Fall 2015) - Custom Cabinetry - TERRIBLE. A 2-day job ended up taking approximately 1-month to complete. We allocated 3-days just in case and were assured that the job would not take longer than 3-days. The cabinetry installed represented the conversion of a standard closet into a built-in cabinet with drawers, open shelves and shelves with cabinet doors. The crew arrived late every day of the initial 3-day installation and on days 1 & 2 left early. On the third day, the crew spray painted all of the wood for the cabinet "inside" the room where the cabinet was being installed. I realized the painting was going on when lacquer fumes were being pumped through the entire house as the ceiling vent in the casita was not sealed properly. We had five cats when this issue occurred. Two were kittens recently rescued and they had some medical issues. Three are seniors and one had cancer and some other serious medical issues. This work was being done during a week of an Indian summer and it was very hot. I had nowhere to take the cats and ended up opening all of the windows to try to air the house out. The Lead carpenter tried to reseal the vent but it didn't last. When I questioned why there was spray painting going on in the casita (a furnished room with brand new wood floors), he told me that he had been so busy that he forgot to prep all of the wood at his shop so he figured he would just do it on-site. Later on that night we had to purchase a number of fans from Target to get the air to circulate through the house with the AC on. The Lead left us one floor fan to put in the casita to help with the smell and told me the smell would be gone by the next day. I had a masseuse renting the casita two days a week and she had clients the next morning. Needlesstosay, the fumes were not gone by the next morning. I lost my rental income from the masseuse as she had to cancel all of her clients for the remainder of the week. We also had to rush our cat with cancer to see his internist because he was behaving differently after the paint fumes and took him in for 3-unscheduled visits the following 2-weeks. James did not want compensate us for any of the issues related to this job. The only thing he agreed to was paying for the fans we had to purchase which cost less than $100. He wouldn't even discount the remainder of the invoice and, instead, threatened not to finish the job if we did not agree to pay the final balance. read more

First issue I had with James Michael Interiors is: I purchased my blinds on June 12, 2019 and didn't get my blinds installed until the early hours of July 4, 2019. I will say, as far as the numbers go, James did talk a good game to get us to go with his company. However, did not deliver a quality product. I specifically went with his company due to providing electric blinds because other blind companies did not offer them. When the blinds FINALLY got installed, the motor on the electric blind did NOT work. The installer tried several ways to remedy the problem and nothing worked. So, it took another week and a half to get the motor replaced. Once installed, I was told, within a few months, depending on my usage, I would have to replace the batteries. Towards the end of August my motor went out. I replaced the batteries and installed lithium batteries and the blinds would NOT open. I then called James several times, and no answer. Since August, he has not returned my calls nor text messages. I have left several voicemails and still no returned calls. This is bad business in my opinion. At a minimum, you should respond to your customer. I should have some type of warranty left on that blind for replacement, yet I cannot get in contact with anyone to honor that. My husband has also tried getting in contact with him and still no response. Do not go with James Michael Interiors if you predict you may have an issue with blinds. Because they will not return your calls, therefore, you will lose your money. read more

My family first hired JMI in 1994 when we needed draperies and shades for our new home. Of all the vendors, James stayed within our budget and gave us great creative ideas. In fact, our friends still call our draperies "timeless and beautiful". That is why we contacted James when it came time to update our kitchen. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY with this guy unless you like poor customer service and an unprofessional attitude! I'm in business to consumer sales too and I would NEVER treat my customers the way he does....I had a very similar awful experience as others have on yelp as well as others in my community. This guy has a VERY bad reputation in my community (I wish I would have asked around first before going with him - my bad!!!). He starts off like your typical cheesy, used car sales guy, really nice but it's ALL fake. As soon as he gets the sale, he could care less about you. ZERO customer service and ZERO professionalism and is flat out rude with a temper. The only thing he had going for him was his installer, but even he quit working with this guy. His installer was great but no longer works with him either. I even told him I had a big referral for him if all goes well and he had the nerve to treat me like crap and STILL ask for the referral. This guy doesn't get it! Please look elsewhere! There are so many other great companies out there with honest and professional sales people with comparable prices (my neighbors used budget blinds - worked with Linda Allen, she's fantastic!!)!! He'll probably say something like "there's 2 sides to every sale/story" but all terrible, sales people say that, they have too.... Update: Wow! The used car salesman responded to my review. With continued unprofessionalism and lies. At least he's consistent. I love the that he quoted me and said my 4 year old broke a blind, come out here and fix it! I never said ANYTHING REMOTELY CLOSE TO THAT! YOU ARE A LIAR!! I HAVE THE TEXTS I SENT YOU, IDIOT. You can't dispute proof. I have had century blinds out here 4 times to fix malfunctioning blinds, call Victor from Century blinds. But that's ok because Victor is nice, courteous and helpful. Hmmmm, and you wonder why you didn't get my sisters job? Ha! Why would I ever recommend you or your service after the terrible experience I had. And all those extra's you gave me, you offered on your own!! I told you what I wanted done and you insisted to do little windows on the stairs. I did not care about those windows. I still don't. My roller shades, Roman shades and shutters were just installed today. This is the 2nd time I purchased from James Michael Interiors and the 2nd time they did a fantastic job. From the beginning, James arrived at our appointment on time with several great choices of window coverings. He saw my vision for the patio door and was able to come up with a perfect solution. I am so pleased with the way the shutters look too. They gave my master bath such a great finished look. The Roman shades were perfect for my master bedroom, just as James suggested they would. James' work ethic has been very professional and every thing was completed just as he had promised. I was really glad to see Will, the installer, still working with the company. James Michael interiors was a pleasure to work with and I was very pleased with the work. I needed full shutters for new house and also ended getting a lot of crown moulding. James was very knowledgeable, on time, and more than willing work on pricing with me. A few of my kitchen windows were only going to be regular blinds due to the window seal only being three sided and flush with a counter top. After the appointment James called me back and said they would be able to install shutters on only a three sided window seal. He allowed me to keep the original cheaper quote for only the blinds which was the initial estimate. The crown moulding was started two days later and came out looking like the builder installed it. When telling James my thoughts for moulding around some pass thru's I asked about a particular difficult looking pass thru that is drywall and is curved at the top he said it could be done but not worth the cost of what I would have to pay. The shutters look excellent and are made of a durable Poly Resin that will still be there long after I'm gone. The shutters are also America made which was a high selling point for me. Anytime I can buy American over Chinese I take it. James was able to tell me the exact price down to the cent on the initial visit of the cost which was refreshing as I didn't have to wait for him to get back to me in a few days. James is a play me straight up or don't play me at all type of guy and I will absolutely call him again for anything I need in the future. Highly recommended read more
