Asked to have a mower desk installed & they quoted me 400-500 if all the parts are there & correct, tractor was there a month not 1 call, I called every week for a update, was told it needed a install kit @ a cost of $1000 , plus extra time to install the kit, so probably about $2,000 with the kit, ok so I go in to pay the bill but they didn't need the kit after all but the bill was still $2300 ? They put on new blades & 2 filters & removed the $1000 kit & added $1000 for additional labor, $1,900 in labor ! Never again & suggest everyone stay away. By the way they didn't tell me that they didn't need ekit until after I paid the bill, then tried to tell me they had 60 hrs into installing a mower deck & then removing & installing again with the 2 correct brackets. I also said to please put my brackets that were wrong & put them in my bucket & surprise it was delivered with my parts ! Horrible customer service read more

It looks like these guys have seen some bad press here. Let me provide another perspective. My John Deere lawn tractor lost its steering. It's a known issue on this model. I've replaced it before by myself but opted to let someone else take a run at it. James River out of Fishersville came and picked it up. They had it in the shop longer than I would have liked...but it's Spring. We ALL want our equipment repaired. They brought it back with a very reasonable repair bill. The steering failed again before I finished my yard! Stay with me. It gets better. I texted the service department that Friday evening, had a response first thing Saturday. Being a holiday weekend, they came to get it the next business day. Bright and early the following day it was back in my driveway, completely repaired. Here's the thing. Communications? A+ Cost of service? A+ Will I use them again? Absolutely! Everybody's human. These guys work hard to earn and keep your business. read more

Not sure what is worse...John Deere equipment or its Dealer network. Can I get through on the phone? Seldom! Can I speak to anyone with knowledge in Service? Nope! Called between 11a and 1pm ... same answer "Oh every body is on lunch break." What idiot manages a service dept that is not providing service during business hours? Asked to be called back. Nobody returns calls!!! The sad part is I have 5 pieces of this green crap. They act like its the best, it isnt! And hasn't been for a long while,if ever. Mega dealers like James River don't care about their customers after the sale. Service is terrible. Parts prices are ridiculous. Equipment is cheap! SO MUCH PLASTIC! I am DONE WITH JOHN DEERE. This very well started as a bad review based on a short delay and poor communication from their service manager at the Mt. Airy, NC dealership, however the Store Manager, Mark Hyatt (sp?) and Parts Manager, Michael, were excellent to work with and resolved all issues. My mower deck was fixed promptly and with a quality job. Additional parts were ordered, delivered, and installed within one day in order to keep a new customer happy. They really went out of their way for their customer. Then upon picking up some mower blades, the lady behind the counter was extremely knowledgeable and helped me find the right blades for my older mower as another John Deere dealer sold me a wrong set of blades. I was extremely impressed with the service, knowledge and friendliness from all three of these employees. I would highly recommend JRE in Mt. Airy. read more

Unethical in their dealings. Do not practice fair business practices. They had a used tractor on their lot that I really wanted to buy. Talked to a salesman early Tuesday morning after Labor Day. Indicated my interest and that I lived 4 hours away and was ready to leave right away to come get it and even indicated I would purchase immediately. He said that was not necessary to that he would ship it to a location near me and I could decide on it then. When it did not come by the promised time, I talked to the sales manager he said it was sold later that day by another location. They apparently did not put it in their system that it was unavailable. They had my name and number but did not contact me. The sales manager did apologize but seemed to have the attitude that that's just the way things go and get over it. This is not the way to treat customers and advise others to avoid this business. read more
