I don't know the company described by a couple of the existing reviewers. I have dealt with JD over quite a few years, and have always found their service to be exceptional. Their tech reps are as good as it gets: courteous, knowledgeable and honest in that if they are not certain about an answer they tell you so. And you usually get the Rhode Island accent whether you want it or not. The nature of paint and varnish do make it difficult to follow a policy of generous returns. Never done this before. Been a JD customer for 40+ years. Bought hardware that was falsely advertised (1/2" hanger bolts actually were 7/16" with rolled threads on both ends ??!!?? traditionally for lead keel or deadwood application in boats. Watertight integrity? Are you fucking kidding me?) It took me calling them for weeks and weeks and filing my complaint on line several times. And then a lot of atrocious attempts to have me fix their problem electronically or use the AI 'helper' (welcome to the modern world). No person ever called me back or apologized for this or was the least bit embarrassed by advertising and offering this item. I was under the impression that they would reimburse me but I think I may have store credit which I did not want. Insult to injury I then got 2 gallons of paint that were so poorly (and cheaply) packaged one can was dented so bad it leaked paint. I see from comments that this happens regularly. I still have boxes from the old days that were strong enough for paint gallons but guess they want to save money. Doesn't work for me. So, absolutely HORRID Customer Service, Big Goose Egg ZERO for quality control and accountability, lousy and unprofessional follow up and another zero for inadequate, non existent management. I will now make efforts to buy my supplies and products from another business whenever possible. read more

I will never purchase from them again due to their non existent return policy. If you buy any paint, varnish or anything that is deemed hazardous they are happy to take your money and ship it to you but refuses to take it back for any reason. You can not even drive over to the warehouse and just drop it off. Nowhere on the site where you purchase are you told that you can not return these items once you purchase. You only learn about it when you actually do need to return something. Very disrespectful and poor business model. From now on I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

I've worked in the marine industry for 38 years. Jamestown has always been a stellar retailer. They sell good quality gear, boatbuilder grade structural materials, and a good range of finishes. The help on the phone is personal and professional. I had a problem once where they sent the wrong catalyst for some fairing compound. They sent me a replacement kit next day mail- totally stand up. I try to shop local so I ordered several hundreds of dollars worth of supplies from a local shop in New Orleans. That went horribly so I cancelled that order, I'm against a timeline now. I called Jamestown from my truck, did not have my supply list, etc. etc. The guy on the phone had extraordinary patients working with me and basically being my secretary looking up part numbers, etc. After waiting 2 weeks for my material from a local shop, one 10 minute phone call to JD and my stuff is on a truck headed this way. They are not the cheapest but a 2 week wait from the local guys has now cost me more. read more

They offer good technical advice but AVOID ordering anything from them online. They just don't know how to run an online business. I placed an order for several products, some of which included free shipping for their house brand items. I also had a free shipping code for other items that I received in an email. I also ordered some balsa core that was large in size when flat. long story short... I was charged $80 shipping! the order was split into 3 boxes, none of which were shipped free. The balsa was rolled and fit into a normal sized box, but I was still charged as if it was flat packed. the epoxy was received with NO cushioning packing material and the harder leaked over the producing in that box. THey knocked a few buck off the shipping after I called them, but still, WAY too expensive and they don't give a *care about properly packing the stuff they ship. I ordered some marine paint from Jamestown Distributors. What arrived was a leaking box....so now I have paint all over my concrete driveway. My driveway is pretty damaged. Of course Jamestown pointed the finger at UPS, but it looks to me like the paint was poorly packaged. Why not be stand up and take responsibility for it? Don't buy from these guys. I'll be posting this all over social media if this isn't properly resolved. read more

Atlantic Boat Supply is the name Jamestown uses when you order from them through Amazon. I'm not sure why. My shipment took 15 days. Paint was leaking inside and outside the box. Was delivered by FedEx and they delivered the box on it's side, and with the Arrows that indicate to place up, were pointing sideways on both ends of the box. So guess what - PAINT WAS LEAKING FROM THE GALLON CAN OF PAINT ON TO THE TOP OF THE BOX, THE CAN, AND INSIDE THE SHIPPING BOX. IT WAS FRESH, WET, AND JUST HAPPENED WHEN DELIVERED, about one hour before I got home and seen it. So I immediately called FedEx to file a claim and was told they cannot take a claim from me because Jamestown Distributors - Not Atlantic Boat Supply, is whom I must contact to report the problem. I did call them this morning and was told they will handle to issue with FedEx. I will update as to how they resolve this and exchange my leaking gallon of paint. read more
