Firstly, the food is hittin and holding. The catfish dinner is great. The fries were good. Next time I'll ask for the crack seasoning. I think I had a little bit on the fries. The fish was fresh and well prepared. The service was good. the food was made to order which took a few minutes but not too long. They are new to Bowie. I am glad they are here. This is a Hala spot. I saw this place on Instagram and I decided to check them out. I love fried fish so I made the drive from DC. First impression is this is Hip Hop Fish and Chick under the name Jammin. This place was packed. Tons of people waiting and the tables were full as well. I ordered the 4 piece whiting which came with fries, a side of candid yams, collard greens hush puppies and mac and cheese. I also ordered the strawberry shortcake as well as the banana pudding and two sweet teas. The food took about 15 minutes to make and was piping hot. Now onto the food review. Hip hop for sure. Sugar on almost everything fried. French fries, sugar on top. Fried fish, sugar on top. So much sugar it's practically on the container. I wish people would tone this down. The fish was hot but lacked seasoning. The fries were good but I wish there was less sugar. Add the tarter sauce with the fish and it made it better. 3.5 out of 5. Seasoned fish would have been GREAT. The hush puppies were a 10/10. Talk about delicious. Limited pieces of corn inside and a really good size. The collard greens were piping but not cooked enough. Tasted perfect fresh out the can with peppers inside. U can keep them. 1/5. The Mac and cheese seemed store bought. Kraft or KFC style for sure. 2/5. Candid yams were good. I'd get those again for sure.5 5/5. The sweet tea, 10/5. Extremely delicious and a large size. The desserts were trash. Don't waste your time. Banana pudding is disgusting. They shouldn't sell that. The strawberry shortcake wasn't cake and moreso parfait so we got the cheese cake instead. That was ok. Overall I'd give them a 3 out of 5. There are some things that are good and some that leave a lot to be desired. The fish is ok. Tarter sauce made it better. I don't see many of these types of places in Bowie so I guess it is good for the area as this place was definitely jumping. Worth a shot for sure. This place reminds me of hip-hop fish and chicken but better. I do really like their whiting fish, their wings and their catfish nuggets (not pictured because I ate them all lol). I highly recommend this place. The parking is easy and the staff is friendly. It is more like a carryout service and not a full sitdown restaurant but they do have a few tables and it's a great option if you want some good food that's not too pricey. read more

Walked in, it's their grand opening week. Good foot traffic, people in the store are hustling. As soon as there is a slight mess, they're cleaning. All the staff was making sure my order was right. My wife and I had carry out of Whiting, Trout and Cat Fish filet, with sides of Collards and Fried Mushrooms. The fish was excellent. Hot and fresh out of the fryer. Quality filets, too, and well breaded with out over-doing it. The Mushrooms were excellent as well. Well breaded and not at all slimy. The collards needed a little vinegar, and while I understand the store is Halal, some smoked turkey would go nice with it. My wife found the greens too spicy, but I did not Asked for hot sauce. Got a decent little dish of what tasted like either Texas Pete or Crystal (my two favorites). The Jammin' Sauce is honey mustard based, and perfect for those who don't care for spicy (my wife). Over-all a solid restaurant. If the collards were better, my review would have been 5 stars. If I could, I'd make it 4.5, as the collards weren't bad, just not as tasty as I am used to getting. The customer service was great. The food is good. It is like very similar to hip-hop chicken and fish. But hip-hop has a lot more flavor. The place was clean and inviting. There's a basketball court at the register and they give you a soft basketball that you can shoot while you wait for your food. We had a catfish with potato salad and greens. We also had the chicken tenders and the hush puppies, and jumbo shrimp and fries. The greens had a kick to it but there was zero flavor. The Mac and cheese didn't look good so we didn't go with that. It was late and our food was hot and fresh. I got the frozen fruit punch. It was good, I haven't had kool-aid in years but I know kool-aid when I taste it...and that was kool-aid in slushy form. A so-so experience. Ordering was okay, but it was very smoky inside. They need better exhaust system. The woman who took our order was very helpful and answered all our questions. The food was actually okay. There was a white powder on both the fish and chicken we ordered, which was something that was a bit sweet. The fries were crispy and tasty. The fish was fried hard as we ordered and the portions were very generous. The chicken wings and the chicken legs were crispy and juicy. I stumbled across this carryout after a long day of moving, and of course I was starving. Sidenote, after finding this place I went back a few days later for a 2nd go round. The first time, I ordered from the Family Meals, chicken wings with fries with 2 different flavors. They honey garlic and just fried. Let me tell you, that Honey Garlic is BOMB! Definitely get it, sweet with a hint of spice. The original fried, was a little dry but after some ranch, it did the trick. The fries are basic but fine. The 2nd time I went I got the fish nuggets and whiting. The fish nuggets were def a no go, couldn't really taste the fish. The whiting was good though. I got the collard greens on the side and they were just okay. Outside=basic carryout Inside- very cute basketball theme with an arcade game in the corner. Tried them out. I wish the fish was fatter cuz I HATE the thin parts. I don't know if it's a matter of using a different fish or just heavier ones. Seasoning in the fish was tasty not salty at all. Fries are fries, not much to comment on them. Customer service was meh. One of the girls behind the counter seemed highly irritated which wasn't a warm fuzzy. I don't under the restaurant's schtick with the basketball and what it has to do with food but we saw them dribbling and shooting hoops behind the counter which is not sanitary and just plain weird. They should eliminate that and put that energy towards welcoming each customer to the restaurant esp during this grand opening. It goes a long way. I really wish we could get healthier options in our neighborhood. Much of this food was inedible because of the excess salt. The buffalo wings (which we had to return to the store for) tasted more like salt than buffalo flavor, and the greens were bland. The banana pudding tasted like Jello brand banana flavored pudding. I wanted to support this place, but if I'm going to eat unhealthy food, it should at least taste great. Nice to have a new chicken and fish place right on Crain Hwy. service was good, 10 minutes wait. food was very hot. Chicken wings were good. They seemed to be seasoned with similar "crack" seasoning like Hip-Hops ( not complaining). Fries were also well seasoned. Catfish was hot and crispy. Boneless buffalo wings were fine but I wouldn't stop here just for those. Mac and cheese was meh. Wasn't the southern baked Mac like I usually prefer. My boyfriend decided to try this place yesterday and it was AWFUL. He got the catfish, buffalo wings, and mozzarella sticks. I wasn't too hungry so I asked for the mozzarella sticks as a snack. The catfish was fried super soft and fell apart while eating it. The fish also didn't taste like it had much seasoning on it. The wings were extremely flavorless and did not taste like buffalo at all. The mozzarella sticks had the white crack sauce sprinkled all over (they didn't provide marinara). After eating was my stomach was upset. We will never eat here again, do better! read more

The only things worth the order were the fried mushrooms, hush puppies, and the chicken wings, they were seasoned well and fried nicely. The fish was hard and lacked seasoning, the fries were dry, the collards were bland yet spicy, the cake was ok, and so was the drink. The mac and cheese and the banana pudding were not good. My bro who normally eats anything threw them away. The BP was especially egregious, banana flavored pudding with four soggy Nilla wafers. I would not go back. read more

I had been anticipating a new restaurant in the Pointer Ridge. My anticipation was not in vain. Upon entering the establishment, it was a little crowded. The atmosphere was very relaxed.The line moved quickly and the staff were friendly. Their food is reasonably priced and fries are included with almost every entree except the chicken singles. After ordering there was a short wait, approximately 10-15 minutes. We ordered catfish, whiting, fried mushrooms, mac&cheese and their half and half. The fish was hot, fresh and delicious. The mushrooms were lightly breaded and delicious. The fries were seasoned and so good. The mac&cheese was a little disappointing, tasted like it came from a box. The half and half was top tier!
