The young lady on the register gave us great customer service. She was friendly and welcoming, and super helpful. The owner was in the building. He was greeting customers coming out to the front checking on us great hospitality. But the food... They were busy and we still got our food with within 15 minutes. I ordered a couple of sandwiches for carry out. The jerked salmon sub was very good but too salty. However, the regular salmon was just right. Also, the fries very good but overly salted. Ordering online was very easy and the customer service at pick up was great. The inside seemed cool with a couple of seats but this would be a carry out only place for most because of limited space. The prices are a little higher than other carry outs, but the quality is higher, so no complaint. I need to order other items and update this review. Bowie had their first restaurant week recently, and I took that as an opportunity to try somewhere new. I'm trying to remember what used to be in this space... It's right next to Blvck Cow that used to be Mi Hacienda, a spot my friends and I frequented almost too much haha. There was a sign outside with all of the selections. When I stepped inside, the lady behind the counter treated me, and I happily sang along to the MJB that was playing. I saw that they had a few seats and a fridge full of jugs of juice. I knew I wanted the turkey leg, but I had to know what the best sides were. I decided on the collards and mac & cheese with my turkey leg. It took about 15 minutes and I was on my way. When I got home, I really enjoyed the food I got. Loved the seasoned turkey legs, and the flavor of the collards was nice. Many places make it too salty and that wasn't the case here, so that was a delight. Mac and cheese was good, but probably the lowest part of the meal... as I said, still good. There's plenty more on the menu to try, so I'll have to return. They've been on my radar, but I'm glad Restaurant Week motivated me to finally go. read more

I ordered through Uber Eats for myself and a friend, and basically everything I got was overcooked. * The hush puppies were dry and tough. * The wing flats with the boss sauce had good flavor, but they were dried out. * The fried whiting was dry as well. * The cabbage was completely inedible. * The French fries tasted stale. By the time I went through my order, I had to scrap the whole thing and order a completely different meal that evening. The only thing I didn't try were the collard greens--but given the rest, I didn't have high hopes. To be fair, the food did arrive quickly, but I can only assume it was already cooked earlier and left sitting under a heat lamp all day. I visited B.B.U Kitchen in Bowie, MD on a Friday night and had an absolutely terrible experience from start to finish. I ordered the 10-piece party wings, greens, and mac & cheese. When my food finally came out (after a long wait), I noticed immediately that my wings were all drums -- no flats at all. I went back to the counter because this is not standard and has never been an issue at any other restaurant. The cashier told me to wait and went to get a "superior." When he came out, he never introduced himself, never said hello, and never acknowledged me as a customer. He just stood there with his hands in his pockets staring at me. I explained calmly that I received all drums instead of the usual half-and-half that comes with a 10-piece order everywhere else. His response was, "What do you want me to do about it?" I told him I wanted the flats that were supposed to come with my order and that he could take the drums back. He then told me they "don't have any flats" and that "that's how the store sold it to him, so that's how I was going to have to take it." He flat-out refused a refund and instead offered me a discount to order something else. Why would I spend more money when I already paid for a meal I was unhappy with? He then pointed out that he was the owner and said he "was not about to lose money on this order." That statement alone says everything you need to know about how this business treats its customers. Between the extremely long wait time, the incorrect order, the rude and dismissive attitude, and the refusal to make things right, this was one of the worst customer service experiences I've had. I've been hearing about this place, so I took a chance and ordered. I did order delivery, and I must say the food still arrived hot and fresh. I ordered smothered pork chops with yams and cabbage. The pork chops, although cooked and seasoned well, were absolutely not smothered. If you look at the pics, the gravy was very thin, and barely any on there. I am used to a thicker gravy and for them to be...SMOTHERED. So for that, i'd have to give the chops a 8/10. The yams were my favorite! 10/10 great texture, and sweet like i like. The cabbage wasn't too bad. A little on the blander side, but nothing some hot sauce didn't fix. 7/10. And lastly the mac&cheese....there are many different styles of mac and I wasn't mad at this one. If you're looking for creamy, with a cheese pull, this one isn't for you. We ordered smothered chicken that had been smothered with beef gravy because it was dark brown and Mac and cheese where the cheese was only on top and drier than a Sahara dessert. I had chicken wings with feathers all over it, meaning they were not thoroughly cleaned. The greens and cabbage were the only thing appetizing. Came to this unexpected but I'm glad that I came. I had the whole wings (w/mambo sauce) meal with Mac/Cheese and Candied Yams. The meal was so good and it was worth the price. The place was a welcoming environment. It's definitely a place that I'll be coming back to in the near future. read more

I wasn't headed to BBU Kitchen, but because Texas Roadhouse doesn't open until 3, I quickly pivoted. My godson and I were meeting up for lunch and we decided to check it out. So, the ambiance isn't anything particularly special. It's a small establishment with about 4-5 tabletops of two seats per table, but I appreciated the backdrop where the menu was posted on the wall. Essentially, the menu was giving southern style cooking - a lot of it. There was a plethora of appetizers including salmon nuggets, multiple types of chicken, and shrimp, hushpuppies and fries. The menu was chicken, fish and I think I even saw pork chops. We landed on the fried chicken wings appetizers. The wings were fried to perfection! Crispy on the outside, seasoned well, and juicy on the inside. The boss sauce was just meh. I got the fried whiting dinner with cabbage and potato salad. Godson got the fried catfish with greens and mac and cheese. My fish and his were fried to perfection. I think BBU has the fried aspect on lock. My whiting had quite a few bones, and his had none. Still, I really enjoyed it and we each had one piece left to bring home. The sides were overall good. The mac and cheese, greens and potato salad were especially tasty. The cabbage paled in comparison. It was Godson's birthday, so I asked him to pick a dessert. He went for the apple pie, which he compared to an amped up version of a McDonald's apple pie. Then, the owner came over and gifted him a slice of the double chocolate cake. (Can't write about that because we were so full, he opted to save it for later.) My nitpicky self would recommend providing a larger napkin - eating fried food with cocktail napkins can really get messy. My issue is that if I am paying three additional dollars for all flats, I expect all flats, not three drums. So, that's my first issue. My issue is that I ordered online. And the online photo for mashed potatoes, the potatoes have gravy on them. So, after I noticed that my potatoes did not have gravy, I re-entered the store, explained that i based the decision to purchase the potatoes off of the picture, and just asked for a side. They gave me aside, but not before explaining that I didn't order the potatoes with gravy. Whatever. Not a big deal. Let's get into the food itself: MASHED POTATOES AND GRAVY: the star of the show actually ended up being the mashed potatoes and gravy. I'm not going to hold you, they are very good in a different kind of way. The combination really works, and I really think that they are the perfect combination of smooth and lumpy. Mac & Cheese: I try not to go too crazy when judging macaroni and cheese, because everybody makes it so differently. I don't think I would order this again, but it wasn't terrible. It just wasn't how I like it. It definitely tastes like it's made with Velveeta. For those who that matters to. Lol. Greens: I liked the greens, but I wish they had meat in them. They are definitely definitely on the more bitter side, but I like mine a little bit bitter. Honey cornbread: I think this cornbread made me like honey less. It just tasted like a piece of cornbread that had been heavily brushed with a honey glaze. It wasn't soggy, but it also wasn't memorable and wasn't very good. Wings: SIGHHHHHHHH. They were fine. What a pleasant surprise! Close by and hungry on a Sunday night I see this new spot that I was unaware of popup on my Doordash. Familiar with their other location clear across town, I ordered on faith from this new one. Mmm mmm good! The Salmon Sub is my new favorite. Execution of fried foods need to be done while being mindful of NOT overcooking. Golden brown is ideal! The unrecognizable burned/overcooked meats/seafoods is undesirable, and so unpalatable. Today's Fried Shrimp (batter fried) were cooked to the point of the batter taking on an entity of its own, making it difficult to determine shrimp from hardened batter chunks. While the Fried Pork Chops were also dipped in a covering, they must have browned way before the chops were done, and this created a burned (charred) appearance, quite salty, and not a good taste at all. Six chops were trashed! It is quite possible that seated service is better than what goes over the curb. Delivery was timely but needs to match those foods advertised online. The wings were a bit tough and not as tender as I'd hoped--definitely not the melt-in-your-mouth experience I was expecting. As for the mac & cheese, it just didn't have the creamy, flavorful richness that I associate with a good soul food dish. It felt like the "soul" was missing from this soul food. That said, I can see why others enjoy it--perhaps it was just an off day. I really wanted to like this place. I went based upon the review. Influences must be paid to provide positive feedback. This place is absolutely horrible. We ordered the chicken wing combo with macaroni and cheese, collard green and yams. We also ordered a whitening and chicken combo with green beans and cabbage. Every piece of chicken was covered in feathers. How lazy must the cook be leave the chicken fully covered in feathers. Not just one or two but covered in the long bristles. Secondly the chicken was soggy not from condensation but because it was cooked long enough. Lastly the seasoning left a lot to be desired. The cabbage had the strangest taste. I can't even guess what that was. It was absolutely disgusting. The macaroni and cheese was extra cheesy but had absolutely no flavor. The sweet potatoes were some of the worst I have ever tasted. The were semi hard and the only thing I could taste was cinnamon. This food is not prepared with care, love or by someone who really knows soulfood. The strings beans had the same odd taste as the green beans. They only thing that was just okay were the collard greens. They weren't good but just okay. Let me first say that I've been a returning customer to BBU Kitchen almost every weekend since they have opened in Bowie. On May 17, 2025, I ordered 2 catfish sandwiches and 1 grilled catfish dinner. We get the catfish ALL THE TIME! This time, the catfish (fried & grilled) was awful. The texture was really off, and tasted spoiled. In addition, the coating was coming off the fish, and the fish had no taste. I called to the manager to let them know of my experience and was told "I've been cooking it for a 1/2 hr and I don't see any difference." I stated you may have been cooking it, but have you tried tasting it. Long story short, he told me that I could come either next week or the following week to get a replacement. I decided to take him up on this today. I called and again spoke with the manager. I reminded him of our conversation and asked could I get the replacement today; he said yes. When I went to tell him which replacement dinner I was choosing, he told me "Oh no, we can replace the protein, but not the sides." I told him when I dumped the meals, I also trashed the sides (mac & cheese & greens). He said that I didn't mention the sides. If I don't trust the meat, why would I eat the sides?! He again stated that I would have to pay for the sides; to which I replied "I'm not going to go back & forth with you about 2 sides. If that's the kind of customer service that you provide, I'd rather not eat here at all", and I hung up. How much could the business have lost with providing a weekly customer 2 sides to make up for the $40+ order that was bad?! He lost an every weekend customer for $9.98; I hope it was worth it, because I will not be returning to BBU Kitchen. read more

Well kinda I've been searching & craving and when this place showed up because the only place I knew of was Ruby's southern kitchen & I've had them before! & NOT all soul food tastes the same so I waited and waited lol. Today I was determined I found them on UberEats!! My Carrier was nice and the Food was FLAVORFUL !!! ... whatever batter & seasonings they use is perfect don't change NOTHING!!!.. I got the Fried Pork Chops (comes with 2 thick thick chops bone-in with the extra Meat on it !! Yummmz ), Cabbage & Mac & Cheese!!...back to the FLAVORFUL description lol, the pork chops were cooked perfect it was seasoned and the outside was crunchy and crispy STILL after a 35 minute ride and no reheating or sogginess!! I was crushing the chop it was soo good , the Mac and cheese was good and fresh!! It wasn't overpowering with cheese it had a great balance and the crispy edges were hidden at the bottom it tastes like grandma or auntie made it! And the cabbage had kick and wasn't light skinned so somebody cooked it in beef broth or something!! It was flavorful. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS DOWN TO THE BONE. I'd DEFINITELY COME BACK!!
