Been a long time since I visited Jams, but recently grabbed lunch with a friend who works close by. I'd forgotten how good it was. They offer a great variety of sandwiches, both hot and cold, as well as hamburgers, hot dogs, and salads. All items come with chips, fries, pasta salad, potato salad or baked beans. I went with their steak and cheese, with fries and it hit just right! The sandwich was a good size, but the fries is where they get real generous! The steak and cheese was great, as was the mountain of fries, nice crunch on the outside, and soft inside. Their fries are definitely noteworthy, I've never had this style anywhere else before, they're an odd hybrid between a potato chip and a French fry, but I really enjoyed them. Prices were very fair, they charge a little bit more for credit card use, but not much at all. The cashier was friendly, we placed our orders at the counter, and they'll call out your name when it's ready. For lunch on a Friday, I was impressed how quickly they were turning orders out. The interior is very spacious, providing plenty of seating, though a bit dated with it's checkerboard floor, it's got a bit of a nostalgic 50's diner feel. Overall, it was a great visit, and somewhere i'll surely be going back to again soon!! One other noteworthy thing, this is one of the few places I've been to in a long time that doesn't try to pressure you into a tip for your order, which I appreciated! This is my second time going to Jams Deli and I enjoyed it! The first time I got their Buffalo chicken sandwich and it was messy but pretty good, not the best I ever had but no real complaints other than it being very messy. I REALLY like their fries here. I think having them plain is best, I got the chili cheese fries today and the ratio of chili and cheese was off so it was more like chili fries. Today I also had the Zanwhich, which is pepperoni, pastrami, provolone and mustard on rye. They grilled it so it was like an Italian grilled cheese. I really liked it!!! The employees were kind and got the food out within a reasonable time. The interior has that classic diner feel with the colorful chairs and checkered floor. If you are in the New Garden area I recommend trying it! read more

You can park on the side and enter through the front, but they also have an entrance in the rear of the building. We walked up to the counter to order. They have plenty of seats and booths. The menus are located there and on the wall to the left. Customer service was great. We were greeted right away. The menu was explained well and she was very patient as this was the first time I've visited in several years. They have a great selection of burgers, sandwiches and hot dogs. I ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, cheese, tomato, onion and pickles. Yum yum yum. I devoured that burger. The curly fries are unique and delicious. Cutlery, soda, condiments were located in the back. Desserts are located at the counter. Some are made in house and some are from another business. I enjoyed the atmosphere. The music aligned with decor. There were TVs to entertain. They have a couple game machines near the front entrance. Can't wait to stop by again! read more

Jams has been around longer than I've been alive and they are still thriving! The deli has a cute retro vibe to it and the staff are always friendly. My go to is the steak and cheese and on this trip I got it with pasta salad. My boyfriend was with me and ordered the buffalo chickam sandwich with hot chips. This is one of those few oddball places that has been around Greensboro longer than I have, but yet, I had somehow never stopped in until recently. It wasn't our original destination, the place we tried to go was not open on Mondays, but Jam's was right there and I said let's give it a shot. While it seems from other reviews they may have some consistency issues, our visit was great! I was in the mood for hot dogs, and not having any idea how theirs were, I went for a pair all the way with hot chips. The price was very reasonable, and when the basket came out, it was stuffed with two loaded dogs and overflowing with crispy chips. Good sign for sure. The hot dogs themselves were a couple of the most plump franks I have seen, and they had a nice flavor to them. The chili was meaty, maybe too much so for many, but I felt it balanced really well with the slaw, onions, and mustard. The only way these could have been better would be a buttered and grilled bun, overall, I was quite happy. My chips were hot and crispy top to bottom, and the ranch was great. Hard for me to complain at all. The inside of this place is definitely retro. Clean just dated, but honestly, it's totally fine with the vibe they are going for, and I'm sure a renovation would require raising prices. I say keep it how it is, and continue to provide solid food. I'll be curious to see how it is going forward, but on a first visit, I was very happy and will return! read more

I love Jam's! It's such a staple in Greensboro and the food is consistently delicious. They have SO many options, something for everyone! I've never had a bad meal here. It's counter style ordering and then they call your name to pick up: easy, fast and the food is always fresh and hot. Prices are pretty good, of course they have risen with the rise of everything else, but still reasonable and good portions. The atmosphere has remained the same for years with vintage decor and tables. I miss the Martinsville Road location as it was much closer to my house, but this one is worth the special trip! I stopped in on a Saturday around lunch. It was pretty dead in there which makes me nervous, I hope it doesn't close down! Maybe it was the weather or due to college football. I imagine weekdays are busier. I had the Italian Sub, hot, with pasta salad. Very good! Perfect sandwich. My mom ordered the Grilled Chicken Pita, my usual order. It's always fresh and chock full of perfectly seasoned chicken/veggies. Their curly fries are also the best in town. We ate here for the first time 5 years and I've been singing it praises ever since. We finally got a chance to return this past weekend, as we don't live in the area. We were really looking forward to having another great meal, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. My spouse had a club sandwich that was basically tasteless. How is that even possible? I had the Traffic Jam which is rare roast beef, turkey breast, swiss, lettuce, tomato and russian dressing that I choose to get on a hoagie roll instead of a brioche roll. I didn't realize it would be served warm or would have gotten something else or told them not to heat it up. It didn't have a lot of flavor either. I swear there was nothing wrong with either of our taste buds. In fact, we both got the potato salad and neither of us liked it. It seemed to have a strange flavor about it that tasted like lime juice to me. I'm not opposed to trying something different, but for me that as a flavoring didn't work. I missed the album rock that they played last time in lieu of easy listening of the 50-early 60's, but oh well, guess everything has changed here except the decor. read more

It's been years since I ate here. It was delicious back then. I was looking forward to eating another good meal but I was sadly disappointed. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich with a side of potato salad. The chicken tasted rubbery like it came from a package stating it was already pre-cooked. The potato salad...well I can't hardly describe it except it had a very sour taste and it tasted nothing like any potato salad I've ever had. I did not eat it all and I do not like to waste food. Walking into this place was like taking a brief step back in time. The music was a wonderful mix of 70s and 80s akin to my yacht rock station on Sirius. Decor was mid-century diner like and the staff was pleasant and service driven. Having looked at the menu at home, I was clear about my order-club sandwich with a side of potato salad. Since the next day was Sunday I decided to get a pound of potato salad to go as a complement to the ribs and asparagus I was planning to cook the next day. Everything was indeed fresh. Made in house was obviously true as well once I tasted the potato salad and the brownie I purchased. In the cold case display slice upon slice of cheesecake was beckoning my name but I exercised a small amount of restraint while noticing how the recently baked cheesecakes waiting for decoration were sitting in the bottom of the case too. I wasn't super excited to revisit Jams but a friend wanted to meet for lunch so I said yes. The interior has been spruced up and appeared cleaner and brighter than the last time I visited. Order at the counter and the guy at said counter calls your name when your food is ready. He called our names quite quickly and with a funny accent on Janice and Karen, cute! Still love the fried chicken and grilled ham sandwich which is one of their most popular items, the CHICKAM. The hot chips with homemade ranch are always a favorite too. My husband has been going to this location for 30 years, which is almost as long as they've been open! I've only been a handful of times but I really love it! It isn't much to look at from the outside, but keep going, they have a Health Score of 97. We were immediately greeted with shouts of welcome and smiles. Rodney ordered his favorite, The Sicilian Jam with extra pepperoni and fries. I ordered my go to, steak and cheese with fries. The food was made to order and was steaming hot! The french fries were super crispy and I ate half of them before I started the sandwich. The bread was perfectly grilled which means it had some crunch on the inside but a nice steamy soft exterior, It had plenty of well seasoned steak with chopped onions, enough provolone to give it a nice pull and it had great flavor! The tomato was a nice deep red, the iceberg was shredded and very fresh and crunchy. I'm a big believer in shredded iceberg, I think it pushes a great sandwich into fantastic territory. I didn't need to add salt, pepper or extra mayo. It was perfect and I ate every bite, including the bits that fell out. The Sicilian Jam has baked ham, grilled pepperoni, provolone, house oil and vinegar, lettuce, tomato and mayo and Rodney requested extra pepperoni. I tasted his sandwich and the fact that they grill the meats first, really, really amps up the flavor! He ate every bite too and started eyeballing my fries but he knows better than to reach without warning. LOL. The music is a great variety of 50's and 60's so you can't help but dance in place while you eat. It is self service but that's ok with me and the food was so good we went back to the counter to sing their praises and to add to the tip jar. On our way out, I saw a woman eating a cheeseburger. She was about 3 bites in and it must've been good because she kept holding it while she ate some fries. I'll be getting that next time. On Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022 they are donating part of their proceeds to the Greensboro Urban Ministry's support of the Potter's House. I ordered a hot dog with meat sauce, mustard, slaw, chili, relish and onion; with hot chips as the side. My coworker went to pick up our order, and brought it back to my work for our lunch. The hot dog had barely any of the condiments. The hot chips were cold, limp, and very soggy - not crisp at all. All in all, a very disappointing lunch. We have dined at Jam's Deli for years. We probably will not eat at or order from again. We ordered our old standby, the fish sandwich and were very disappointed. The fish was very over done and the curly fries were no longer curly or tasty.. Our sandwich was practically inedible because it was so tough and overdone. I've stayed away from here for awhile after a particularly bad experience with a train wreck sandwich, but came back recently because I really find the majority of their homemade salads to be excellent. As I've done before, I ordered their Chef Salad with the excellent house made Thousand Island Dressing, and their Club Sandwich with no mayo or dressing. I deconstruct the sandwich, jettison the bread, and add the ham, bacon, turkey, & veggies to the Chef Salad - now you have a 2 meal Chef Salad on steroids! I added a Tune Salad Plate with a side of Pasta Salad, and a Chicken Salad Plate with a side of Potato Salad. And though I am far beyond my "Salad Days", I sometimes create my own salad days this way - set for at least 3, maybe 4 days of nice salads - a nice, comfortable feeling! Went to this place for dinner with my family. The employees proceeded to yell profanities and argue loudly back and forth with each other behind the counter. Quotes included "cheating", "friends with benefits", and "I can f____ whoever I wanna f___!" at full volume in front of a family with two elementary school-aged kids and another guy just trying to eat. They also managed to already have chairs stacked on tables at 6:50pm. Hard to enjoy a dinner when the employees are acting like they're having a domestic dispute in front of the whole restaurant. Jams Deli is a root in Greensboro. If you are new to the area, I can't say that you'll see them on the Food Network, but they are a good old hole in the wall deli. I grew up going there, it is nothing over the top, but they just do the trick. It's kind of a "keep it simple stupid", don't overthink it kind of food, just do it tasty and affordable. You do line up and order, if you're like me, I have to step to the side and browse menu so I don't hold up others. Lunch hour tends to get busy. Nostalgic decor; photos and collectibles on the walls and a diner feel. Hate that their second location I was so impressed opened has been recently closed. I give four stars only because they are not necessarily flashy and over the top about servicing the dining area and accoutrements if you will, but if you want a yummy and fairly priced Sammy, fountain drink, beer, dessert, or trip down old school Quaker Village Greensboro lane, run over to them. read more

My family loves Jam's deli! They have a great selection of sandwiches and their side selections are delicious. I'm a particular fan of their meaty baked beans. My daughter loves their cheeseburgers. A new favorite of mine is the chicken portabelle pita, so good! The service for take-out is fast and friendly. Jams does a few things, and does them all well. They are consistent in every dish. Their portions are very generous. Their prices are excellent. I visited Jam's late in the afternoon on a Saturday and found it basically empty. A gentleman (a cook, if I had to guess) figured out the register to take my order. I assume someone more familiar with the register wasn't around. I appreciated his willingness to help. I ordered a hot dog with chili, slaw, and mustard with curly fries. The dog was good but I wish it had more slaw and mustard and a bit less chili. I didn't love the chili taste. The fries were good and well seasoned but weren't crisp. I dig the ambiance and I bet it gets busy during the week. I'd return and try some of their sandwich choices. read more

My husband and I used to go to the Jam's Deli near Pisgah Ch Rd and Lawndale and loved it - the people were always so nice, appreciative of our business and the place was spotlessly clean. We were greeted with huge smiles the moment we walked in and were thanked for coming in upon leaving. The food was always terrific. Not so with this one on West Friendly. I had some out of town guests and we thought we would try this place since I liked the other one so well. I ended up apologizing to them for my awful choice. Upon entering, we waited approximately 5-10 minutes before anyone greeted us. No one else was waiting in line but a younger woman (white woman about 30 yrs old) was at the counter putting together an order. I felt she could have just looked up to acknowledge us/greet us and say something along the lines of "Hi folks, I'll be right with you, OK?" Seems reasonable. Then another girl 'ambled' over (white woman, 20's, dark hair, possibly with some pink dyed in it, heavy set) and asked us what we wanted. Again, how about a greeting and a smile first? We finished ordering and paid. The food was excellent. Everyone loved the taste of what was ordered. A nice busboy (younger, african american) came to our table 2x to clear things. He greeted us and asked us how everything was. Very nice. A+ When we were ready to leave, I needed to throw a napkin in the trash so I went over near the drink station looking for a trash bin. Thinking it might be located inside a base cabinet, I opened the one just under the drink machine. It is absolutely filthy, disgustingly dirty. I opened another cabinet door to find the same. Certainly there are creatures living in there. As we left, this is the image I was left with. I was wondering how you pass the public health inspections. Matter of fact, I think I will give them a call tomorrow to alert them! Bottom line: customer service - D+ needs a lot of work, training or re-training. (Is there any training going on here?)
