Burger menu and others things.

Once again, I ate at Jay's but today I did not have the chili cheese dog. I had the ham and club sandwich with fries and it was delicious. Didn't need the fries, but I wanted the fries and they were good. The service is always excellent there and the ambience is like a diner type vibe. It's not too bad and I always sit at the counter and usually somebody starts up a conversation and I enjoy going there for lunch. I took some pictures of the menu and my sandwich. I didn't forget this time so try it sometime it's really good. That ham club is delicious.

Long standing pillar in the Greensboro community. Great option at reasonable prices. Very much an old school diner. Pros Central location with plenty of parking in Friendly Shopping Center Affordable Variety of food options Booth and 4 topper seating options Friendly staff that treat you like family Quick service Good food Cons They are working on the roof

I really enjoyed this visit. The food was really good this time. I love this deli, but this visit just stood out of my recent visits. I was glad they changed the zucchini fries back to sticks. They were so good! The chicken salad platter was really good. This is my favorite dish here and I just loved the quality. My daughter's chicken wings looked so good. She devoured them. Can't wait to go back.

6" Vegetarian Sub

Been passing by this place for years and only now trying it out. It is an amazing place. The subs are great. Had a few to try and it is good. It seems oily but its really because of the vinegar dressing and it was sitting for abit before eating. The place reminds me of an old 80s diner with fast service and friendly staff. Recommend this place if you're looking for something fast and good.

Great local deli that puts out delicious meal after meal. The space has old diner style booths that line the walls and tables in the center. Staff are very friendly and always checking in on you. I got the chicken salad sandwich and cup of their soup of the day. Hit the spot!

Reuben Dog with hot chips

We came here looking for a sandwich and this place delivered on a solid sandwich. My little girl got a make-your-own sandwich and she loved it. The hot chips are great also. I got the Rueben dog (debatable if a sandwich) it was very good. I also got the hot chips and I liked their ranch. It seems made fresh in house. Definitely a top spot for a sandwich.

Kraut Dog - nice version, kraut is excellent

Jay's has been in Friendly Shopping Center since 1958, and while the ownership has changed, they moved locations in the center, and very little of a true deli still exists, the food is still good and the menu offers something for everyone in the sandwich, soup, and salad mold. Over the years I have tried a great deal of the menu - a variety of their rotating house made soups, Carolina Burger, Cheeseburger Club (a real favorite), Chili Dog, Kraut Dog, Deli Club, Patty Melt, Club Salad, various Salad Combo Plates, Pasta Salad and probably a few more items. In general, the food is pretty good and pretty consistent in quality and freshness, and this is true also the entire menu. The service has suffered since Covid, especially in the kitchen where they seem to struggle retaining experienced, reliable help. The times for orders to get to the table have noticeably lengthened, and from time to time there can be a quality problem compared to the past. I'll still drop in from time to time - not the go to place it once was!

I had not been to Jays in years! The service was fantastic - a very friendly staff who recognized regulars by name and were cognizant of older folks needing a little help. The menu is standard deli fare but they have specials, such as taco salad, etc. Their potato salad is made in-house and was a very good mustard style. Seating is at tables and booths or at the bar. Food was ready in a very reasonable amount of time. I won't wait as long before visiting again.

Grilled cheese with bacon and homemade chips.

Jay's has been a great place to grab lunch for the last 69 years in Friendly Shopping Center. I spent many hours at the counter in high school waiting for my best friend to get off work. They usually have a decent crowd for lunch with plenty of seating. They have all the deli staples: soups, sandwiches, subs, salads, and desserts. You can't go wrong with a grilled cheese with bacon and a side of homemade chips. Remember to pay with cash to save 3% in your tab.

Jay's Deli is a Greensboro staple. This little spot has been around for years and years in Friendly Center and is extremely popular. Their food is always delicious, fresh, and affordable. A wide array of options from omelettes and bagels to club sandwiches and Italian subs, I've never had a bad thing! Due to its popularity, you can expect to wait during busy times (especially on weekends at lunch), but the line generally moves quickly. There is also a lunch counter option with seating. I was surprised to see less positive reviews as I've never had a bad experience here. Depending on how busy they are, the staff may or may not be overly chatty or friendly (if that's a factor for some) but I've never had a poor interaction with one. One time, the water in the women's bathroom wouldn't turn off and we notified a waitress who kind of scoffed at or brushed us off, but it was probably due to how busy she was. I won't hold it against them! Their turkey club/Jay's Deli Club is probably my favorite in town and I LOVE the Italian sub! It's a little small in my opinion, but still really tasty. Certain sandwiches come with a side, while others like the club you pay a little extra to get one, but you can still get a great and filling lunch here for under $12. Definitely take a quick break from shopping at Friendly and stop in at Jay's! You won't be disappointed.

This place is the best. All their sandwiches are so good and on Fridays they have chicken and wild rice soup that is amazing.

My husband and I were in downtown Greensboro on a Saturday afternoon and decided to hit this place up for lunch. When they called the place The Bodega, they really mean it's a bodega. It's decked out like a small convenience store from the second you walk in. We ordered our food at the cash register to eat at one of their tables outside. The cashier brought our sandwiches out about 10 minutes after ordering. I ordered the Turkey Caesar. It had turkey, shaved parmesan, marinated cherry tomato, house-made Caesar dressing, onion, and romaine lettuce in an 8" sandwich roll. It was a little pricey at $15, but it was worth the splurge. The dressing and parmesan cheese were unbelievable! Since this is in downtown Greensboro, there is no dedicated parking lot but we easily found street parking nearby. The place has a few tables outside for customers to enjoy their food. If you're looking for a good sandwich, I highly recommend checking The Bodega out.

Added my toppings and dressing and sat down to eat. Very pleased with my meal and the chocolate mousse was excellent. Went for round two and was dismayed to see they had not properly cleaned the tray and had left food particles on it. Not a huge deal because I was putting my food on the plates, but it's the little things. No complaints on food for round 2. Got more mousse and was able to get lettuce this time. An employee had been working on stocking the salad bar while I ate my first plate and continued during my second. While I ate my second serving someone I assume may have been a manager of sorts came out and was giving the employee stocking feedback. I then watched the manager start filling containers by ADDING THE REFILL ON TOP - no rotating, no changing containers, just adding on top. Not acceptable. Seating is and always has been cramped in here. I had to weave around tables to get to my seat. We also saw someone have their sunglasses knocked off their head by someone exiting to the patio because their table was that close to the door. The gentleman picking up trays and plates was smiling and quick. It was nice to see!

The good news? It's worth it. I had the Reuben, which was excellent, along with a pasta salad that was surprisingly good. I also sampled the artichoke crab dip, and it was easily appetizer-worthy. The burgers looked great too. The menu has enough interesting options that I could see myself coming back several times if I lived nearby. Definitely worth the wait for a great sandwich.

Today I stopped in for a to go order, but next time I plan on enjoying the patio with my pup Ziggy and try one of their burgers. I ordered the Madison Avenue which is a croissant smeared with honey walnut cream cheese, smoked turkey, and granny smith apples. My side was slaw and I also ordered fries with a side of ranch. Upon walking in the place appeared clean, the customer service, not the best. But maybe someone was having a bad day, I get it. I'm so glad I did check my bag before I left because they did not give me ranch or plasticware, man I would have missed out on some amazing ranch. The young man gave me three ranches which I'm so disappointed I only grabbed one. Unfortunately I didn't get the best pictures but the food tasted great. The fries were thick cut (probably frozen) and let me tell you, I would just come back for the ranch! They have my favorite restaurant ranch. The slaw was really tasty - good ole southern sweet mayonnaise slaw, not too vinegary. The sandwich, not bad, good combo of toppings, they paired well together. I' ll be back. Anyone want to go for a patio lunch? Ciao for now
