The sandwich is served hot. It is sublime! I went at a time that wasn't busy around 2:30-3. If you go at peak lunch time be prepared to wait and it is very loud and chaotic. But the wait is worth it. They offer a great variety of sandwiches, both hot and cold, as well as hamburgers, hot dogs, and salads. All items come with chips, fries, pasta salad, potato salad or baked beans. I went with their steak and cheese, with fries and it hit just right! The sandwich was a good size, but the fries is where they get real generous! The steak and cheese was great, as was the mountain of fries, nice crunch on the outside, and soft inside. Their fries are definitely noteworthy, I've never had this style anywhere else before, they're an odd hybrid between a potato chip and a French fry, but I really enjoyed them. Prices were very fair, they charge a little bit more for credit card use, but not much at all. The cashier was friendly, we placed our orders at the counter, and they'll call out your name when it's ready. For lunch on a Friday, I was impressed how quickly they were turning orders out. The interior is very spacious, providing plenty of seating, though a bit dated with it's checkerboard floor, it's got a bit of a nostalgic 50's diner feel. Overall, it was a great visit, and somewhere i'll surely be going back to again soon!! One other noteworthy thing, this is one of the few places I've been to in a long time that doesn't try to pressure you into a tip for your order, which I appreciated! The folks here are friendly, and my sandwich was ready for pickup after only a few minutes. I'd be lying if I said this was one of the better Italian sandwiches I've had - the bread and the cheese were pretty pedestrian - but it was well-dressed, tasty, and filling. At $10 for an eight-inch sub, it was also priced right. Approach it as a sandwich shop with some Mediterranean/Middle Eastern offerings, however, and it acquits itself much better. The menu features hot and cold sandwiches, burgers, salads, plus souvlakis, gyros, kababs, and falafel. I was craving a cheesesteak, and the steak and cheese combo with fries fit the bill nicely. Even after adding mushrooms (an upcharge), it still came out under $15 pre-tax. I took it to go and found it satisfying. The sandwich offered a decent amount of meat and plenty of flavor. The fries were OK - not as crisp as they could be but not underdone or undersalted - though I would probably skip them on a future visit. One small thing--I remember the bread being toasted the first time I came, and it didn't seem like it was this time. Not a big deal, but something I'll probably double-check on my next visit. Overall, Jay's Daily is a dependable spot for a quick, easy lunch. Definitely one of those places you can count on when you just want something good without the fuss. I chose the stromboli with sausage, ham and beef. Our server stopped by to refill our drinks and commented the stromboli's usually take a little longer. We did did not notice how long it took, so, it could not have been too bad. When our meals arrived, we were very impressed. We both thought the presentation was perfect. My stromboli was huge! My wife enjoyed her burger and the waffle fries were nice and crunchy served with a side of ranch. The prices are very reasonable as well. Great experience!
