The reason I give it 3 stars is because: We picked up our wedding bands 2 white gold bands in April . Didn't start wearing them till May (when we were married). My husbands band turned gold in 1 month of wearing it ( the rhodium had complete worn off after a month). I wrote to them expressing my concern and they told me not to worry and come in to get it rhodium platted again. Before going I called to make sure they would be able to do this service and that it would be complimentary since I was driving from over an hour away. I was assured to come in and that it would be complementary. After an hour and a half of driving I get there to be told that it would have to pay. First time Yelp reviewer here. My experience with Jangmi was absolutely amazing. Like most people starting their search for an engagement ring, it was terrifying (aside from whole being with one person for the rest of your life thing but that's a different story). I had done some research online and considered actually making my purchase online. But I definitely wasn't confident enough to know what I was buying to actually make a purchase via virtual world. I went to a physical store to check out a few options but my gut told me to keep shopping around. A friend of mine who works at GIA recommended that I check out Jangmi. Located in the heart of of the Diamond District, it is inside larger commercial space that hosts a lot of different diamond / jewelry storefronts. When I walked in it was immediately apparent which one was Jangmi as it was by far more busy and crowded than any other shop--and this was a Wednesday. I was already feeling a lot more comfortable. While there was a substantial crowd shopping at Jangmi, I was helped almost immediately as they had 5-6 people actively working and helping customers. I told them what I was roughly looking for (pricing, size, ring type, etc.) and was quickly presented with a range of options. Outside of the basic knowledge that I picked up via interweb, they provided some additional education to help me make the right choice. The exceptional service and expertise minimized the scariness of making such a big purchase, and equipped me with the confidence to pull the trigger. I ended up spending less than 30 minutes before I was out the door and extremely happy about my selection. And not once did I feel rushed or pressured. The custom ring came early and, to my surprise, she said yes! The ring was too big (my mistake) but Jamgmi was able to adjust the size for me free of charge. We had family in town to celebrate and they even expedited the resizing so that my fiance could wear it at our engagement party. Especially as you walk down this "diamond row" with everyone asking you if you're "buying or selling" and high-pressure salesman encouraging you to get the biggest and baddest rock they offer, you begin to see how HUMBLE and GENUINE Mr. and Mrs. Kim are. FYI, they are located in a shop that has many other individually owned shops. As you walk in, they are on the RIGHT-HAND SIDE. I believe they are the only Asian couple in that store. Also note, you will not see "Jangmi Jewelry" anywhere on the outside. Just verify the address and walk on in to their smiling faces. We visited them one day and they both were assisting customers, with one standing behind them. Since it was our first time ring shopping, we didn't want to take up their valuable time if they could be helping others who were actually there to give them business. So, after a few friendly gestures to Mr. Kim, we left. The day after, we decided to make another trip. This time, we walked in and Mr. and Mrs. Kim welcomed us with warm-embraces. They said "WELCOME BACK! So sorry we were busy last time you came." Wow, how in the world did they remember us with all the clients they probably see on a daily basis? We talked with both Mr. and Mrs. Kim about the fact that we never done this before -- it was our first time, and we were just "browsing." Granted, before we stopped by here, we already visited and "browsed" about 5 other shops on diamond row -- what we found was "just browsing" meant "these guys aren't buying anything, so we'll leave them alone." With Mr. and Mrs. Kim, as soon as we said we were "just browsing," she immediately pulled out a chart of Diamond 3-C's, and started to teach us what each meant -- and taught us what SHE recommends that we look for...anything i+, fluorescence NONE, and the grade we would be looking for. Remember, this being our first time, we really did not even know our budget we were looking at. She continued to give us information -- the budget is strictly for the diamond. She also gave us a realistic price range for what we should expect with a particular diamond size in HIGH quality. That's it, the settings are cheap in the grander scheme of things. AWESOME. At this point, we felt like we were diamond EXPERTS (Thank you Mrs. Kim). Now, at this point, Mr. and Mrs. Kim have already earned their 5 stars, EACH, 10 stars total. However, Mrs. Kim proceeds to take out a few classic style rings that, in her professional opinion, would look nice on a petite bride-to-be. Additionally, she took out a few diamonds of varying sizes and grades to show us the difference in "sparkle" as she mentioned. She even let us try the rings on to see it for ourselves. OK, at this point, I just wanted to take out my wallet, cash, subway week pass, and just give it to them. I didn't even want anything in return, I just wanted to give them all my business and everything I had. It was an AWESOME experience to deal with, and be in the presence of Mr. and Mrs. Kim. Genuine PEOPLE who care about the reason you are in their store. In the middle of educating us, a well-dressed gentleman came in to pick up his engagement ring. It was well packaged, and the ring looked spectacular. He felt the same way and we could tell that he was excited to use the ring for its true intent. I found Jangmi Jewelry on Yelp, and I was really excited to come here and experience the 5-star reviews myself and I was sorely disappointed. My experience began with a warm greeting from Mr. Kim and I could see where people could have a great impression. Unfortunately, these good vibes ended quite abruptly when Mrs. Kim started to help me and I told her I was looking for a simple, diamond eternity wedding band to complement my engagement ring. She saw that I had gotten my engagement ring elsewhere and to my complete horror she said (verbatim) "To be honest with you, I'm sorry to say it, but the diamonds in your engagement ring are not comparable in the quality of diamonds that we have so any ring you try on here is not going to match because the diamonds in your ring are terrible quality." I couldn't believe it. I mean, A) I already have the engagement ring so what's purchased and done is done and B) even if you do you think that, how could you insult and put down a potential customer's ring in such an offensive way and C) ward off any possibility of finding something that I could possibly like because it just "wouldn't match" because of a subjective "different quality"? In shock, I thanked her politely for her time and I left the store with the most sour, bad taste in my mouth. This review has taken me months to write. I should've done it a while ago, but the engagement was to be a surprise. I actually live in Atlanta and I traveled all the way from there to seek out some quality stones at reasonable prices. Sometimes when you enter these stores it can be intimidating especially if you didn't do any research beforehand. I came pretty well prepared about what I wanted and how much my limit was. My biggest motivation from buying here was that Mr. and Mrs. Kim own their diamonds outright. This gives them great flexibility in negotiating prices with you. They weren't pressuring me one way or another either. I liked that...They just showed me what they had and even steered me towards less pricey alternatives with little to no drop in quality. It was a funny scene because I'm standing there with 3 different diamonds in front me trying to decide what to purchase. My friend was next to me laughing his ass off since he recently went through the stress of spending a lot of money on a ring. He was about one step away from getting popcorn and taking a picture of my agony. Why do I keep friends like this?!? I had to keep the diamonds in their safe for a couple of months since I wasn't ready to pop the question that early. They were very generous and understanding. (I took 4 trips to the diamond district and visited a minimum 20 different shops) Young Soo Kim is the most honest and knowledgeable person (32 years in the business) I dealt with in the diamond district. Let me explain to you my experience of buying an engagement ring and dealing with the diamond district. My friend is going to ask his long time gf to marry him so he decided to ask me to go with him to the diamond district to meet with a supposed "hookup". We met this with hookup and we quickly learned with diamonds there is no true hookup. Diamonds have a value and it is nearly impossible to get a significant discount. So this hookup took us to several places and I noticed that a lot of these places were trying to hard sell EGL certified diamonds. I had no idea why until i went home and realize EGL certifications are basically worthless (they certify diamonds about 2 grade higher then GIA) compared to GIA certified diamonds. If you are trying to by a diamond always go with GIA! During the first day, we visited 4 places with the "hookup" and 3 places by ourselves. Not only did most merchants try to hard sell us and sell us inferior diamonds they tried to steer us to their "friends" to do the band. My friend almost pulled the trigger on a diamond, however I had to persuade him to visit other places. After the second day he realized he would have made a big mistake if he had purchased that diamond and was glad i stopped him. After 3 trips and visiting over 20 places our friend told us about YSK. We visited YSK and Mrs. kim took great care of us. She was warm and gave us her honest opinion. There was no hard sell and she was pushing quality diamonds. She educated us on everything from the table, color, and the hearts and arrows of the diamond. - Trust me if your buying a ring become educated. The one thing I love about YSK is they held the originals to the GIA certifications, which meant they actually owned the diamonds. (Always a good sign) This is why there prices are so competitive. I dont know what everyone has been raving about to be honest. First of all, prior to going there I had called them to see if they had a specific ring that I saw on their website. They said they did and told me to stop by. I didnt want to make the trip into the diamond district, if I didn't need to, esp on a weekday. As soon as I got there I showed them the picture and asked if they had that ring. Mr. Kim said yes we do and brushed me off and told his wife to help me. When I asked her, she started taking out different settings, ones that I didn't care for. After 15 minutes, and asking the third time, she said she didnt have it, but could make it if I wanted it. The whole purpose and drive to the city was to see the ring in person and try it on. After realizing that I wasnt going to purchase the ring on "the spot" they went to other new customers that came by. She told me that I had to do my "homework" on diamonds before coming back to the store. I thought they would have given me some more information after reading all the wonderul reviews about how good they were on teaching you about diamonds.
