Antney's is less than 10 minutes away from my apartment, and yet I almost never get ice cream here. Why? Because they're popular - TOO popular. And to be fair, they deserve to be popular. Still, waiting in a long line outside in the summer heat...it's no fun. BUT if I'm driving by and the line is short for a change, I'll take a detour and get myself a sweet treat. So, why's Antney's so popular? Because we all love a family-run ice cream shop. They serve homemade cones and a nice mix of (also homemade) ice cream scoops, milkshakes, sundaes, and even frozen yogurts and sorbets. Parts of the menu rotate regularly too (specifically, I've read that some flavors change daily). So while you can always expect to find the classics here, you never know what else awaits you. Case in point: I stopped by last week and to my delight, Nutella Cookie ice cream was on the menu! I ordered a milkshake version and let me tell you, it was the best milkshake I've had in quite a while. Absolutely delicious flavor, and full of cookie pieces to boot - it hit the spot on a hot summer afternoon. It's probably for the best that I don't want to regularly wait in a long line in a hot parking lot to get ice cream from Antney's. Well, it's good for my wallet and waistline at least - it's disappointing for my tastebuds. Hopefully though, I'll get lucky again before they close for the winter, and will once again drive by while the line is on the shorter side! read more

I first learned of Antney's a few years ago, and have visited a couple of times since then. It is a small, seasonal, local ice cream shop located near Green Tree. It is in a standalone building, but within a complex so there is a decent amount of parking. It is a true ice cream stand, with no indoor area and ordering at the windows. Very much appreciate that their ice cream is homemade. It seems like they rotate flavors daily, and are constantly coming up with new and unique combinations. Several times I have gone and they are switching flavors mid-day, so there is really always something new and different to try all the time. My most recent visit was on a very busy Sunday, and it took about an hour to be waited on from start to finish. The girl who waited on me was nice, let me sample some flavors, and gave recommendations when I asked for them. On this particular visit, I got a Golden Oreo Cookies and Cream Milkshake. Additionally, I ordered a two scoop dish with Citrus Rosemary and Peanut Butter & Cookie Dough. Additionally, ordered a Strawberry Pretzel Cheesecake Milkshake and a Pup Cup to-go. The items I personally had were good, and I liked trying the unique flavor of the Citrus Rosemary, though I did not get a lot of rosemary flavor in the scoop. My total for all this was around $26. Just a note, milkshakes cost more if they are a flavor that is not Vanilla Bean, Chocolate, or Strawberry. I previously worked in management of a homemade ice cream shop, and given my industry knowledge I do believe the prices here are high. Other points of critique I have for this place include the lack of seating (no outdoor seating at all), and speed of service. My primary critique, however, is that their hours are so limited. I likely would visit here on a more regular basis if they were open for longer than four hours a day (this includes weekends!). I also wonder if the pricing could lower if they were open longer, and therefore able to move more product. There probably is reasoning, but I am curious why college-aged workers could not staff the store during the afternoon in the summer months, and especially on the weekends. I would recommend giving this place a try - there is not a ton of ice cream shops in this area specifically, and it is locally owned. The ice cream is made fresh, and the variety and uniqueness of the flavors is noteworthy. Just make note of my points above, especially the hours. read more

Wow. I was looking for ice cream options around 20 minutes from my house to see what else was out there. Antney's came up, so I looked at their menu and reviews. After looking at both I decided to take a shot. We arrived around 6:30 on a Sunday. We waited less than 10 minutes to place our order. I had two scoops of Cookie Monster in a bowl, my wife had lady lock ice cream on a cone, my oldest son got a waffle cone and my youngest got their iteration of a blizzard. Their ice cream is some of the best I've ever had! There is no interior to sit. Prices were reasonable. I highly recommend stopping if you want a sweet treat. read more

Found this gem while out in Pittsburgh and so glad I found it. Lots of fun flavors and ice cream was so good. This place sits in a strip center and only has limited outdoor seating and no indoor seating option. You walk up to a window to place and receive your order. They were busy while we were there, but it moved pretty quickly. There were a couple of dogs there as well enjoying their pup cups! Definitely will be coming back here! read more

I can't imagine anyone whoever had this spot doesn't think it''s the best in the area. Every single flavor on the menu that day was an absolute knockout. Make sure you keep up with their instagram because they rotate flavors HEAVY which I love. Will make the experience even better. Cameryn and I both got a scoop of the Dirty Banana. It was a banana base with Oreos and fudge brownie. Not overpowering in artificial banana at all and great ration of inclusions. The strawberry pretzel had a strawberries and cream base with pretzels and strawberry jam swirls for inclusions. Strawberry pretzel salad I never heard of until moving out here. This is actually my first every version of it and I fucking love it now Cameryn's other scoop was party time. It was a cake batter base that isn't like your typical artificial birthday cake flavoring. It tasted like you dipped your finger in actual cake batter. It had icing inclusion that taste like the blue icing on ice cream cakes, rainbow jimmies and piece of cake every other sample we had was all outstanding. Nothing missed. I'm so glad I finally had the chance to try out the famous Antney's on a sunny afternoon after work. The menu was pretty extensive and contained a good variety of innovative homemade ice cream flavors. They have some of the usual suspects, as well! I was headed to dinner so I opted for just a single scoop of the Easter rice krispie limited edition flavor, though the 3-scoop taster option was calling my name. It was tough to decide on a flavor to try because everything sounded delicious, but I wasn't disappointed with my choice. The ice cream had a vanilla base with caramel swirls and rice krispie pieces. The textures worked together well! The staff were friendly and prompt. They got through the small, but constant line very quickly. There isn't any searing available, you order at a window, and the parking is located in the same lot. There were several parking spots available, but it would be nice to have a couple picnic tables or something for the patrons. I can't believe it took me this long to get to Antney's! They have such a variety of flavors - I tried Snickers, Strawberry Pretzel, Lemon Cheesecake - all were delicious! I had to stick with my soft serve twist with Jimmies, sooo good. The soft serve is similar to custard, which I love! I will say, the line is crazy long & that took about 20 min & when it was our turn, we were at the window for 15 minutes between 3 samples, 1 soft serve twist & 1 BBT. I am very glad we found an excuse to visit Antney's! They are only open 5-9 so plan accordingly. I appreciate that they have a shared parking lot so there is ample parking. The line moves slow but it is a sign they are busy! The flavors are a mix of traditional and unique. I appreciate that they have multiple options from traditional to frozen yogurt, no fat/no sugar to sorbet, and additional dairy free offerings. I tried the lemon coconut angel food cake and loved it! Antney's is back for another summer season! This is like a hidden gem down by Noblestown Road in the Greentree area. Hands down it may be the best homemade ice cream in the area. I tried their blueberry cheesecake ice cream tonight that had such a good flavor and my husband got the BBT Oreo which is their version of the blizzard. Here in Western PA we have the privilege of occasionally experiencing unseasonably hot (and cold) weather through the month of October. A couple weeks ago, we had a stretch of hot days that were perfect days for ice cream. I'm a year round ice cream eater, but when it's hot there's no better treat than a big, delicious waffle cone. My boyfriend and I live in rather close proximity to Antney's and have driven past it saying, "We have to stop there!" more times than I can count. Finally the day came, and it was so good that I'm upset we waited so long. My favorite flavor of ice cream changes with the wind, but the strawberry eclair flavor with cake pieces was really what I was into during this particular visit. It was the perfect combo of strawberry and vanilla and had a ton of big cake pieces and real strawberries in it. Yum! My boyfriend opted for the birthday cake with golden Oreos in it in a waffle bowl, and his was equally tasty. You can't make a bad choice here, and they do let you test samples if there's a flavor you're curious about. I'm not sure when Antney's closes for the season, but I wish it was open year round. If they aren't already closed, I certainly wouldn't be upset at stopping by for another cone before next season comes! read more

They didn't have flavors I really wanted, but I picked up some coconut cream pie with jimmies (some people call them sprinkles) and the girl gave me a spoon and a Styrofoam bowl with a ton of napkins. My first time so I didn't realize why I would need them. But I did need them because the bottom of the bowl was filled with more jimmies so I could dip and scoop as much as I wanted until I was almost out of ice cream. And I did need all the napkins, Price is reasonable for what you get. Will definitely go back even though it's not even near around the corner, but will call ahead to find out if they've got something mocha or chocolate with nuts and coconut or maybe even something more exotic. I come from Boston where there are tons of great ice cream shops with all kinds of crazy good flavors. So I'm always looking for something new and unique. The ice cream scoops are generous and flavorful and everyone was lined up respectfully, despite its length the line moved quickly and service was prompt!!
