I had the most wonderful experience today shopping at Jan's. I initially went for my Mother of the Groom's dress but walked out with an entire wardrobe of high quality casual clothing. I truthfully have not looked this good and put together in a decade, actually two decades! And everything is comfortable and interchangable. I am a difficult person to fit and please. I am an 18W, 62 years old and retired. I want quality items, appropriately proportioned, classic styling and honestly I do not want to break the bank. I got all of that and and more! Convenience! A personal shopper! Marie, the sales associate, with the consultation of the owner, Jan, knew what size and cut would look good on me then brought it to my dressing room! I did not have to exhaust myself running from store to store praying I could find coordinating pieces in my size or order on line only to spend a fortune on returns. Plus, unlike the department stores, I had choice, not one item on a rack in the far back of the store with missing sequines or a clerk apologizing because they have nothing in my size. I felt like Jan and her staff valued me as a customer, listened to what I wanted and had the expertise to deliver! I left the store feeling absolutely beautiful and confident in my selections. First, my Mother of the Groom dress. I thought I died and went to heaven. Marie, met me at the door, with a nice smile, asked me my time frame and price point. Within 15 minutes she found the perfect dress; she knew my style and what could be altered to look good on me. I didn't hear one word about my size and was not shown one gown that was not beautiful, well made and appropriate for my body type. I had searched every department store, several bridal stores and there was nothing for a woman of my size and shape unless i wanted sleeveless, strapless or a cap sleeve. My arms are flabby, not what I or many women my age and size want to emphasize. I waited until the last minute but Marie knew her product as well as the best seamstress for the alterations I will need and the time needed to complete them. This dress is perfect and if I shorten it after the wedding I will have a high quality cocktail dress that I can wear for years! Second, the sports/casual clothing (like you wear for dinner). OMG! Wonderful! Every fashion show, magazine and book advises that you purchase key "foundation" pieces that you can build a wardrobe around by mixing and matching tops, jackets, etc. Well good luck finding that if you are a heavy. Marie brought me in three neutral base pieces! Each is a slimming shell and slacks in matching fabric. You can wear them alone, with a jacket, under a sweater or sheer top or separate them. Plus they are year round weight and easy to pack. Then she brought in light weight tops and sweaters that mixed and matched, all in the longer length that I like because it slims me when properly fitted. I am still in shock! This is not a store for Plus size women but the selection was beautiful and everything looked great! It was proportioned properly and the fabrics were forgiving. AND a lot of it was on sale! The basic pieces are so perfect that the nice sweaters and jackets sitting unused in my home closet and even a sequined top and jacket from another wedding now look great and put together. I no longer have to search for the right black, brown or white to tie things together! Probably best of all, I did not buy one thing that "will look great when I lose 10 pounds." They fit now and look great! If you are serious about getting a beautiful cocktail dress or evening wear for a special event this is the place even if you do not have the perfect body! Listen to your sales consultant and work with them, be open to suggestions because they really know their mechandise and how things will look! If you are last minute and buying off the floor(like me) the dresses are in perfect condition. The sales person helps you with the dress so there is no chance of defective zippers and they are not pulled over. The gloves mentiokeep the dresses stain free and pristine! The casual wear is wonderful! And not just for heavy women. My friend, a petite size small was with me and also walked out with several gorgeous pieces that she can wear year round to anything. They are just great quality, perfectly coordinated pieces that do not break the bank and you are not going to see yourself coming and going-these are not in the department stores or on line. Honestly, I am not going to bother shopping anywhere else. I would rather have a fewer pieces I can actually wear and feel young, stylish and fabulous in then a closet full of pieces that do not quite match or are a little snug in the waist or across the back. Most of all, I felt valued! Marie, Jan and the rest of the staff wanted me to look great and feel great! And you know what? I left there feeling GORGEOUS! Words cannot describe the disappointment and utter disgust I have for this poorly run, unprofessional boutique. It is absolutely terrible. To start out, I would like to say that 1.) If I could give this "business" a -10 out of 100, I would. 2.) I would rather not go to prom at all than EVER give Jan (the owner) a penny of my hard-earned money. To start out, I have a disability/hormonal problem where I have large breasts that will not stop growing. I have back issues because of it, and they don't fit in most of my clothes, making me often times humiliated and upset. Needless to say, I need a bigger dress size to accomodate my large bust. Already being extremely embarrassed and ashamed about my issue, you could most certainly count on Jan, the owner, to make me feel even worse. I found the dress of my dreams there with the help of an EXTREMELY friendly (but pushy) salesgirl. The bust didn't fit, and I would need 2 sizes bigger. I kept trying on gowns and I found a gown that I tried on 2 weeks prior in a different shop in the same size. The zipper got caught (not my fault, it was like that) and it was a HUGE deal because it would not come off (the dress was poor quality). My salesgirl couldn't get it off so started grabbing more people to aid her, and even though she meant no harm, I soon had several salesgirls staring at me more exposed than I feel comfortable in the dressing room all concerned about what to do. Needless to say, I was already feeling pretty disgusted about myself. I was humiliated. So, they all made a big deal and said they needed to get Jan (*dun dun dun DUN*) so here she comes. She is rude and in a bad mood, not even saying hello but rather just busting into my room (what if I wasn't fully clothed?) which bothers me because I am VERY modest which is a value Jan clearly does not respect, based on how she presents herself. I should have expected this because she was rude the second I walked into the shop. She was loud and noisy and it seemed to me she wanted an audience to embarrass me about my size, and with my mother in the room, I kindly asked her to quiet down because I am conservative and shy and don't want the whole store knowing about my embarrassing issue. Jan got very defensive and angered at this and told me (in a stern voice that was condescending, rude, and harsh) that the whole store "CANNOT" hear her and that "they could care less quite honestly". I told her that I just didn't appreciate my problem being an issue the whole store knows about again, because it is embarrassing to me, and that I don't think Jan understands. She told she "SHE DOES" understand, in a stern voice, yelling. She got the zipper off with a razor, and the dress dropped, leaving me exposed, and Jan quickly ran out of the room without saying anything. I believe she was angry she wasn't getting the sale as well - it was CLEAR that's all she cared about - money! Certainly not customer service. My mother and I were livid and dumbfounded at the insanity of this lady. I told my mother she could go in the car since she was pretty mad and I went to go talk to Jan after I got the style numbers written down of the dresses. I am not going to lie and say I was nice to Jan because when she saw me approaching she was clearly angry and I asked to speak in private. She said yes and stood there in the middle of the store, so I suggested a place where there weren't a lot of people (Jan likes an audience). This is when I got rude in our own room almost in tears telling her how much she embarrassed me and hurt my feelings. She could not care AT ALL, and kept interrupting me, getting in my face almost and raising her voice, saying "LET ME TALK". I told her that she does not remember what it is like to have insecurities. I began crying and I told her about my breast issue. She got mad, had no sympathy for her actions, and STERNLY told me to leave the store after I told her that I thought this was a very unprofessional business. DO NOT TAKE ANYONE HERE. I am beyond upset and hurt still at her actions and words towards me when I was about to spend $410 on a dress at her shop (which I could have gotten $40 cheaper online). Jan is unprofessional, nasty, and needs an awakening. Don't waste your time getting an overpriced gown here when you can get it cheaper at a place where the money wont go to a rude saleswoman. I understand a bad day, but there is never a reason to talk to a teen girl with insecurities like this, let alone ANY customer in general. **ALSO, I called the store and complained. The person just kept giving excuses for Jan, saying "they will talk to someone about it" which I know wasn't the truth because Jan is the owner. They were kind though (everyone but Jan) and I could feel he/she may have been sorry. read more

Sometimes, just because a store is close to you doesn't mean that it's the place to go. I live in Williamstown NJ and decided to take my daughter shopping for her prom dress in Washington Township to as store called the Red carpet, there selection was minimal to say the least. I knew when we walked in that it wasn't the store that my daughter was going to find the perfect dress in, we thanked the sales women and left and headed to our next store a little farther away but still close called Ideal fashion, we found a few dresses that she liked and we decided to go with one of them seeing as our options were running low. We paid for the dress and got measurments for alterations. A week and a half later when we went to pick up her dress and try it on it was completlely destroyed, originally the dress was to big for her NOW it's to small and the arm was to tight. It was a nightmare that I couldn't wake up from. They apologized kindly and explained how this had never happened before and said they would fix it for us and we could come back in a few days and try it on again, so we did. When we went back to try the dress on and pick it up we were informed that they can not find my daughters dress. You have to be joking me, how do you lose a dress in a dress shop that has had alterations and been paid for. My daughter was hysterical and with only two weeks left until prom we could not take any more chances with this retailer so we had our money refunded and left. We went home and searched online for other places to try and we came across two within 40 minutes of us, Jay west and Jans boutique, the next day we traveld out to look through both places, we first went to Jan's and the selection was impressive, they even had walls of jewelry to match all the dresses but yet we still did not want to put all of our eggs in one basket because Ideal was a very nice store as well so we left and went to Jay west. There selection was decent and the dresses were beautiful but the service was not up to standard, we even heard by a sales person no less that a woman a few weeks before was suing there store for lying about ordering a dress and paying more when they had the dress there the whole time, i'm not sure if it's gossip but still that was enough for me after what we've been through. We went back to Jans later the same day and looked around and found the same dress we'd bought at Ideal but with a few differences that we liked more. We purchased the dress and they began alterations that day, I told them of my horror story and they assured me that wouldn't happen here, we came back a few days later to try the dress on with our fingers crossed and the alterations were perfect. I went to Jan's Boutique a week and a half ago to look for my wedding dress at a Thursday evening appointment. My mom, my MOH, and I met with Charon, the store manager, who brought us upstairs to their bridal section. Not sure if it was because of COVID or the time of my appointment (5PM on a Thursday) but we had the whole bridal area to ourselves, which was great. Charon truly made this a wonderful experience. She was hospitable, attentive, and not pushy at all. She allowed me and my guests to browse through the dresses and point out which ones I wanted to try on (which is a refreshing change from when consultants pick out dresses for you). It was my second time trying on wedding dresses and she had all the patience in the world! Most of the sample dresses were too big, which isn't unusual, but Charon was very attentive when "clipping" me in and gave me a great idea of what the dress would look like in my size. She even re-clipped me in the front of certain dresses I really liked so I could see what the back would look like. Ultimately, I found a dress that I love but wanted to hold off since I have other bridal appointments already scheduled. Charon completely understood and gave me her contact info so I could follow up if I wanted to return. At no point did we feel like she was trying to rush me out of the salon at the end of my appointment. She also took the time to reach out a few days later to politely thank us for coming in and reiterate that I can contact her if I want to come again (or if I decide to get a dress elsewhere!). I thought they had a decent selection of dresses available to try on and I believe I tried on at least eight dresses. Charon was also considerate of our budget. I had pointed out a dress out of our price range initially and she politely requested to put the dress back before I tried it on so I wouldn't fall in love with a dress that was too expensive for us. Since this appointment, I've been to two other appointments and it truly does matter how the consultant and other employees treat you/help you during the appointment. I had an unpleasant experience elsewhere due to being rushed by the consultant and being constantly distracted by other employees who kept brushing past me multiple times as I tried to get a good look at myself in the dress. I realize everyone's experience is different and I can't speak to Jan's sales/alterations as I didn't purchase a dress there at this time but I truly enjoyed my bridal appointment at Jan's. read more

I dreaded senior prom dress shopping. I had flashbacks of junior prom shopping and just wanted to cry. Junior prom shopping was awful and I think we must have gone to 25+ stores. We finally had found a dress we liked but didn't have my daughters size, we had to special order it and pay upfront not knowing if the dress would even fit. Then in the end we found out that another girl, one of my daughters fairly close friends had the same dress. It was just an all-around awful experience but my daughter made the best of it by taking pics with her friend and captioning it "Twinsies"! I said to myself at that time when it was time for senior prom I would give someone else my debit card and have them take her. A friend told us about Jan's in Cherry Hill New Jersey, she said that they had such a great experience and they had such a huge selection of dresses so I vowed that we would make the trek come senior prom. Fast forward to this year - the dreaded senior prom dress shopping. Money has been tight so I opted not to make the two hour drive to Jan's and go to some local dress shops in our area. We had no luck whatsoever. We even went to a dress shop that claimed to be the biggest and had hundreds of dresses. There were hundreds of dresses, but sadly only one rack in my daughter's size (16). My daughter was devastated and in tears and I was close to crying too. So we decided to take a road trip to Cherry Hill New Jersey. We drove the two hours on a Sunday morning from Pasadena, MD. We were greeted by the entire staff when walking in and then went with Lindsey for one on one help. She went right to work on measuring my daughter and then took her to her size racks, yes racks not just one like the other stores. The store was crowded due to it being prom season but she made us feel like we were there alone. She made my daughter feel comfortable and at put her mind at ease. My daughter was able to find many dresses in her size and ultimately found the perfect dress. She even helped us find jewelry. Coming to Jan's was by far the best decision and best experience we have had in prom dress shopping. We will definitely recommend them to everyone and anyone. Jan's has a huge selection of dresses in every price range and every size. The staff is very friendly and helpful. No store that we visited this prom season or last has even come close to the selection of Jan's. read more

Dear Jan's Boutique, After unsuccessfully searching through 3 different states for the perfect gown for a very special function, I took the plunge and drove to New Jersey, to Jan's Boutique. The name of this dress store kept popping up in other dress shopper's suggestions. I was greeted right at the door with a smiling associate, Christine. She helped me look through the rooms full of dresses, and she explained the setup of the store, from the sale racks to the styling areas. When it was time to try on dresses she fitted me with fancy gloves to help keep me from damaging the beautiful gowns and then helped me zip each dress, personally. As I came out of the dressing room, in each selection, other associates came running over to talk about the dresses, what they liked, and what they thought looked best on me. I had a great experience trying on gowns and my mom was relieved not to have to fiddle with all of the hooks and zippers, and she could take the time to truly look at the gowns, and discuss them with me. During this process I found my "perfect choice" gown and Christine, my mother, and the other associates agreed. I was very happy to have found my "perfect gown", as well as some others to put on my "wish list". While we were checking out we were offered some nice coupons to local shops for other services, as well as a free gift. We also noticed a few beads missing from the bodice of the dress and the staff immediately pinned the spots and gave us a time to pick up the dress after the beading was fixed, at no charge. All in all, we had a great day, and I got a great gown. The checkout process was simple and elegant. The immaculate ladies room at Jan's Boutique makes you feel like a queen! There were plenty of comfy sofas to lounge on while we discussed the many beautiful gowns. We had a great shopping experience, a wonderful day, and I found my perfect gown. I would like to thank Christine and all of the staff for their time and great suggestions. "I finally found my dream, beautiful, prom dress at Jan's Boutique in Cherry Hill, New Jersey for my senior prom. If you knew me you'd know that I am a very picky, indecisive person. So searching for this dress was so hard. I honestly did not want to go to Jan's Boutique because I heard that everyone was going there for their dresses so I wanted to be different. So me and my mom went looking around at other places. The first place we went to was very nice but I wanted to keep looking. The following weekend we looked and I was still so unsure about everything. There was a dress shop that was so beautiful and elegant and they had nice dresses too but it still didn't feel right. I even considered ordering online but my mom didn't want to risk it. So Sunday came and me, my mom, and my boyfriend traveled far and still we couldn't find anything that I loved. At this point I was getting frustrated so I decided lets look in Jan's Boutique. When I walked in I loved it. It was beautiful and elegant as well and my favorite part was that everything was very well organized. The dresses were organized by sizes and colors. I loved it! They also gave you an assistant to help you. My assistant's name was Maddie. So I tried on a few dresses and I liked them all but I really loved the first one but I had to order it a smaller size because it was a little big. I was a little unsure about it so Maddie wrote down the dress number and color for me and gave me a magazine and me and my mom were going to come back tomorrow. So we came back on Monday and I looked again just to be sure. My new assistant was Julianna. I tried on a couple and liked them and Julianna found me my beautiful dress. I tried it on and fell in love with it. I felt so releaved that I finally found the one. I am so happy with it. I began searching for a Mother-of -the Groom gown back in February 2014 for my son's wedding on June 13th, 2014. I live in the area and visited mostly all of the local wedding & bridal shops. I was not "WOWED" by their selections as they all had basically the same gowns, plus they carried small sizes. I finally visited Jan's Boutique, first I was greeted by a lovely & friendly person at the front desk who asked me a few questions and in seconds a consultant appeared. She introduced herself as Judy, then, "WOW"! Wall to wall dresses and gowns in all different sizes & colors. I was extremely impressed. Judy allowed me to select a few dresses on my own then she chimed in as well. Judy was with me the entire time, never once left me to wait on another customer (it was prom season, very busy time). I tried on many gowns, selected a few, but prior to purchasing I had to have a few family member opinions. Judy was very patient and did not rush me into making this very important decision. I finally selected the most stunning gown ever! I was so thrilled & excited! I would like to commend Judy for her knowledge & professionalism, she knew exactly what style gown would flatter my figure, I can't thank her enough! Also, I cannot forget to mention the seamstress who altered my gown to fit me perfectly, her name is Michele. There was a lot of detail on the gown and Michele made it look so easy, nothing was a problem, yes let me repeat "there was never a problem" from beginning to end. I had the most happy and wonderful experience at Jan's. By the way, I was complemented by many, sometimes twice, on how stunning my gown was. Also, I want to mention how impressed I was with Jan herself as always being present in the boutique, mingling with her customers & commenting on dress choices. In my opinion, Jan & her team are the best in the business!! OH! one more thing-my daughter will be getting married in the next year or two, and I do not have to think twice about returning to Jan's Boutique for my Mother-of -the Bride gown! Ok here is the truth about Jan's. I had known about Jan's and wanted to go there first to look for a Mother of the Bride dress however my friend's sister-in-law suggested to try a dress shop called Sterling's in New Hope. She said I would love it there better Jan's so I made a trip up to New Hope with my two friends. I couldn't wait to get there ...I knew I was going to find the most amazing dress! Well, I was NEVER so disappointed in a dress shop EVER! First of all it seemed the sales team was "bothered" by customers and secondly there was no inventory to speak of. So, not wanting to waste a trip I thought I would try something on...ANYTHING .... Well, here comes the fun part. I reluctantly chose 2 dresses to try on. Their samples are only for skinny people so I could not get them past my legs. I am not fat but not a size 2! So here is the most amazing thing I was told by the salesperson...just hold it up in front of you and if you like it we could order it in your size!!! LOL I still CAN NOT believe anyone would say that! Okay so we promptly left, and I just wanted to go home! But , luckily for me my 2 friends insisted we go to Jan's! I told them to not say I was looking for anything...let's just go in and browse. We walk in and were greeted by a store full of pleasant, smiling professional people! What a breath of fresh air.... Here is the more amazing part...the very FIRST dress I tried on was the ONE! They have so many dresses and sizes to choose from that it was almost unimaginable that the first one would be it!! I just went for my last fitting and was sad for this wonderful experience to be over! I have my daughter's wedding in 4 weeks and can not wait to wear my beautiful dress! Last year on April 13th my daughter and I walked into Marlene's Dress Shop in Collingswood, NJ to find a prom dress. They were very accomodating to my daughter's needs/wants and they helped find the perfect dress. Fast forward to February 2014, my second daughter's prom is around the corner and so we decided to go back to Marlene's Dress Shop. This second experience, however, was not as pleasant as the first. My daughter and I were treated in a way that put a sour taste in my mouth and a pain in my stomach. I asked to speak with the owner, Marlene, and when I had asked what happened to the dress my daughter had first seen, Marlene rudely interrupted me in saying, "The dress was sold! You're daughter should've purchased the dress the first time she was here!". At that time, I was fed up with Marlene's, so my daughter and I decided to go elsewhere. We googled "prom dresses in New Jersey" and found Jan's Boutique. We had never heard of them before, but my daughter was in need of a dress and we figured that we would give Jan's Boutique a shot. When we arrived at Jan's Boutique we were instantly greeted with open arms and we felt like we were being treated as royalty and family. I'm a Hatian-American single mother and I felt no racial judgements from any one at Jan's Boutique, whatsoever. The store was very nicely laid out and clean. They even make you wear black gloves when trying on the dresses so that none of the oil or dirt from your fingers diminish the value and cleanliness of the dresses, which I thought was outstanding! Marlene's Dress Shop in Collingswood, NJ did not offer the protective gloves. I also want to give many kudos to the girl who was at the font desk at Jan's Boutique. I had a wonderful experience shopping for my "mother of the groom" dress at Jan's. Upon arriving, I was greeted by my salesperson, Doddie. After brief introductions, we got down to business. I had a pretty good idea on the style of gown I was looking for because I prepared for my visit by following the instructions provided on-line. I researched the many dresses on-line, narrowed them down by preferred style, and interactively communicated on-line with reps from the store to make sure the dresses I wanted to try on were available in the shop. I also knew the colors the dresses came in. When I arrived for my appointment, I had in hand printed copies of the dresses I was interested in seeing and trying on. This gave Doddie a good idea of the style I was looking for. I thought this was extremely important since Jan's has thousands of dresses in stock, and it might get overwhelming for the buyer if you don't narrow down the selection ahead of your visit. Doddie was completely attentive to my every need. She completely understood the style of dress I was looking for, and was able to quickly pull the dresses I had printed out and also added a few selections of her own based on the style of dresses I expressed interest in. In less than an hour, I walked out of Jan's having purchased the perfect dress (and might I add, in a color I never thought I would have considered)! Never once did I feel rushed or pressured into making a decision, thanks to the expertise of a great salesperson, Doddie. I would strongly recommend Jan's Boutique to anyone looking for a pleasant experience in what could be a very stressful situation. read more

I walked into Jan's Boutique last summer with my daughter just to look around for a mother of the bride gown. I was greeted by Leslie who informed me very kindly that I needed an appointment especially because of Covid. After a few seconds she said, wait a minute, let me see what I can do. So I waited, thinking this will never happen and all of a sudden, she came back and escorted us to the gown area. She looked at me and said very confidently, I have the dress for you. I tried it on and tried on a few more just because I wanted to be sure but she was on target from the start. Leslie knows her stuff! I ended up buying the dress she suggested as there were no others that looked as beautiful as this one on me. I had to visit the store several more times and during each visit, Charon would always greet me by name. She handles the ordering at the desk and a myriad of other tasks. She was always so friendly and welcoming making sure that I was comfortable. We had the greatest chats while I was waiting. I felt more like a friend than just a customer. Brenda, the designer and seamstress, is the ultimate professional! Not only is she an expert with alterations, but she also advised me on appropriate jewelry, hair styles and whatever else would compliment the gown. The gown had a very long train and, not wanting to bustle it, Brenda came up with the perfect solution. She suggested using the material that would otherwise have been discarded to create a wrap. The wrap is lined and exquisitely crafted. She solved every issue with grace, charm and expertise. From beginning to end, my experience at Jan's Boutique was exceptional. read more

This was my first experience at Jan's Boutique and I drove over an hour for a certain prom dress I've been dreaming of for over a year! The second I walked in I was welcomed by four women who complimented me very nicely! In the past, I've visited over five stores, but not any of them compare to Jan's! Not only were the staff so friendly and made sure I found the dress I was in search for, they did not rush me the way I've felt in previous stores. Many times in other stores I am placed into dresses way over my budget and not the size or color I was in hopes for, but I can truthfully say those who come to Jan's will never have that experience! From beginning to end you have the opportunity to pick the dresses you try on: the whole experience is centered around you! My sales associate, Keily was truly a huge help by making sure I felt truly confident in my dress before purchasing it. I was able to get the dress of my dreams in under thirty minutes feeling more than satisfied with my decision! Aside from this, I loved the idea of allowing me to be apart of their Instagram page with other girls who purchased dresses as well! The page is full of positive comments allowing everyone to feel beautiful in their dresses! I can truthfully say Jan's Boutique is worth any drive and ill definitely be back for my senior prom with all my friends and family!!
