Do not waste your time and money!! Two weeks ago I went to Jan's Boutique for my first bridal gown appointment. I paid for a VIP bridal appointment and there was nothing VIP about it. First of all, as soon as you walk into the boutique it is extremely chaotic. I arrived 25 minutes early to be appointment. The woman at the front desk was very rude and asked us to wait in the car. Once we went back into the building, our appointment started 10 minutes late as there was no staff available at the time. Once we were helped, our sales representative was rushed the entire time. I had to ask multiple times to see different dresses. Everything seemed like an inconvenience. She also stated she didn't know where all of the dresses were as she claimed they were "missing". With the VIP appointment, the website states we would be offered refreshments. This did not happen and my party eventually just asked for water. I found a dress at Jan's that I absolutely loved but due to the staff being unfriendly and feeling rushed the entire appointment, I was not going to purchase from the boutique. I arrived to the appointment with all intentions of purchasing a wedding dress and had 3/5 guests fly out in from other states for this experience. I also drove over an hour to visit this shop. Due to the service I received, I went to another bridal shop after my appointment and purchased another dress. I spoke to Lacey about my experience and was told I would hear back. It's now been 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything. It's very disappointing to expect and pay for a VIP experience and this is what I got. I definitely would not recommend this boutique. read more

I went to Jan's on a whim . it happened to be a day when a vendor was having a trunk show (verde v). I fell in love with a dress, which I ordered but came in far too large. With no time to exchange, Jan's gave me their wonderful seamstress Brenda, who proceeded to take this gown apart and remake it to fit me. The alterations were extensive. But it came out beautiful and I couldn't be happier. Her temperament and personality, knowledge of the fabric and her design skills were just beyond. Let me start as we walked in very happy with my daughter and husband. Jackie was amazing amazing amazing. She made my daughter feel so comfortable tried on all these dresses. She fell in love with a dress which was $$3700. We were OK with that because it was the dress she fell in love with. Until Judy came up to do her measurements. The dress my daughter had on was Big and we thought to get her a size down due to alteration reasons cause I know they cost a fortune. Judy, who was very ignorant, rude, not pleasant told us my daughter needed the dress that she had on that was too big and then neck size under was too small. Perceived it tell her that the holidays are coming and she might gain a few pounds during that time and you wanna address the Fit. I stepped in and said to my daughter and Judy so these alterations are gonna cost over $1000 if she gets this dress and doesn't get the size under she promised me that that would not happen. Paid for the dress in full my daughter made her appointment. My daughter called after her appointment for alterations $1200 later. I called spoke to Judy. she took no accountability blamed my daughter. Yes, I understand. She made the decision to buy that size, but she persuade her with the way she spoke to her, to buy that size that was too big. I was so angry when I called Judy I was in disbelief, frustration, and felt it was totally wrong. What happened that evening. Judy said she talked to the seamstress and said the seamstress sets her own prices. Meanwhile, my daughter said that this boutique sets the prices not the same stress. Judy pushes the blame on everyone takes no accountability and paying $3700 for a dress than $1200 for alterations is purely insanity. But they have her dress and my hands are tied and it needs to be altered. I also understand sales people and they need to make a sale but not rip people off and lie about what the next steps are. Their dresses are beautiful, but do not deal with Judy and have her measure because she is not correct in what she says. read more

Involved in a wedding, came in to try a few things on. The service here wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I feel the pricing was a bit excessive. The alterations were just as expensive. I booked an appointment. I loved their professionalism and the private one on one assistance you receive at Jan's. Lynore helped me find the right dress for me. Everyone was so kind and friendly. I was very disappointed in my visit. The first lady to help me pick out dresses was absolutely wonderful. She took time to help me pick out the best dresses for me. My entire experience changed once a second woman was helping me in the dressing room. She belittled me in not knowing my correct size then told me "Sorry, we have nothing for you ". I would have happily looked at dresses in a larger size as that it what you do when one does not fit. I was not afforded the opportunity to continue to shop. I walked out of the shop in tears. Never has anyone made me feel so horrible. I truly hope that someone in the company can help train this woman in proper etiquette in sales. I believe her name was Linda -- incredibly pushy, didn't listen when she asked what I liked or didn't like, just handed me dresses and didn't help me into them at all, got frustrated when I didn't like the first 4 and LITERALLY said "I don't think we have much more here that fits what you want", started talking to another client that someone else from the store brought upstairs during out appointment (how is that appropriate or allowed?) for over 10 minutes instead of helping me. I had to actually interrupt their conversation to tell her that after only 25 minutes we were leaving. She simply said "Ok, good luck Eva!" 10/10 do not go here. I made an appointment, for 50 minutes, on 6/8/2025, to buy a mother of the bride dress. I live a little more than an hour away, but I went to Jan's because I had been there many years ago, and found that they were very helpful. I was assigned a sales lady, probably in her mid eighties, and not of any help at all. I explained that it was an August wedding, and it would be extremely hot, therefore, I wanted a light dress, with short sleeves ,and if possible, a high low style., I'm a plus size, and wanted something classic. I was not allowed to look alone, but shown many "heavy satin dresses", and she kept pushing dresses that she thought were beautiful, but they were certainly not like the type of dress I wanted, or color. She kept showing me heavy dresses, in dark colors, and certainly not something I could wear for an August wedding. After 14 minutes, with no help in finding an appropriate dress, in a material that I could possibly wear in August, I left the store terribly disappointed. read more

I just bought my dress here for my second sons wedding. The selection is great. Even in larger sizes. I bought a park 108 dress. It looks Beautiful on and I am large in the bust. This is our 2nd trip to Jan's for a special occasion dress and it was worth the hour drive. Their dress selection is great and even though it is a packed house it doesnt feel chaotic. A lot of dresses to choose from, however, we scheduled our $20 40 minute appointment for a Saturday. It was packed. So many people in there trying on dresses, and parents waiting outside the dressing rooms, there was literally nowhere to move. One person even had a huge stroller in there with her. I'm actually suprised fire code allows them to fill that many people in the small space. I had to continue to ask my daughter what she was looking for, since the sales girl just pointed to a small section of dresses and said "look here in this area," as my daughter is going to her junior prom and didn't want a sequin or beaded gown. One dress my daughter wanted to try was being sold as a floor model dress, so she was unable to try it on, nor did they know if they would be getting another one in stock to try out. They do not do a prom dress registry, so girls may end up purchasing the same dress for the same prom. The signs hanging on the mirrors to tip the sales people are cringy- they literally did nothing apart from show her the section and stand outside the dressing room. Maybe our girl was new, but we tried on 3 dresses and left. Way too packed to even want to stay there or look at gowns, as you had to wait in line to view dresses, wait in line to stand in front of the mirrors, and wait in line to enter and exit the dressing room. Maybe going on a Saturday was a bad idea, but with a required appointment, I would have assumed it wouldn't have been so crowded. The girl said they have 17 appointments scheduled every 40 minutes. So imagine 17 girls, 17+ parents, 17 sales associates walking back and forth in the small prom section. Absurd! While we would have liked to look at more dresses, the crown and time limit really reduced the experience. Gowns are easily $600+, I would have like to get a better look at what I was going to purchase! Large selection of gowns, but the schedule and chaos really prevents you from seeing them! read more

I have been to a number of stores in the central nj area and I just wanted a little more . Jan's has an unbelievable selection of stunning dresses. Ok, I wanted to love this place and I did enjoy *most* of our time here, but I wasn't thrilled with some of what went on after the gown was picked. Selection: 5 stars. Great. They have so much going on and you can find almost anything you could possibly want in this place. They have a great selection of the current styles for every age range. We were there to look for a Sweet 16 dress and the stylist, Roxanne, was able to narrow down choices for my daughter right away. They don't have everything that's on the website (no store does) but if you have your heart set on something that's pictured on the website, they can order it (unless it's been discontinued, which is what happened with my daughter's first choice). Roxanne knew what she was doing and was able to work with my daughter's busty figure to find her the most flattering dress, so that was a definite plus. Upsell: This is where it gets icky. They want you to get the whole package. They try to sell you jewelry, tiaras, shoes, and alterations all at the same time. The jewelry selection is just ok at best. You're better off going to Nordstrom Rack or Macy's and going through their displays. I wasn't thrilled with the tiaras. I own better tiaras I've bought directly from the Chinese websites so we weren't looking for that. They offered us the services of their seamstress for the alterations but never discussed price. I almost fell out of my shoes at the end when they told me that the alterations were $420! Seriously? I was watching. They weren't hemming the skirt, only the inner slip, and the top needed to be nipped in a little bit. Nothing major. I worked in the bridal business years ago and I know about gowns, I know about alterations, I know that shops can make money on them - but this was unconscionable. When I questioned it I was told it was because of the variable hem but as I said we weren't hemming the dress, only the slip. Hell, I had a Jovani dress altered from a 22 to a 16 in Bayonne for only 80. I can't imagine how anything that needed to be done could have been more than 100 at the most. Besides the charge for the alterations, they also had a jewelry set on the bill. I said "we never said we were taking any jewelry" because my daughter really didn't like anything that she was shown. We'd already made the decision to look elsewhere. If my daughter hadn't been so sold on the dress I would have canceled the transaction. We paid 440, the dress was out on Long Island for 299, and a simple google search revealed other places where it was available. However, knowing Terani has canceled a lot of styles, I didn't want to take the chance that we wouldn't find the 14 elsewhere, so I bought her the dress and the shoes. The first half of our experience was a 5, the second really made me reconsider and second-guess our choice. Ah well, live and learn. My daughter is happy with the dress and I am looking forward to seeing her happy at her Sweet 16. The dress is Terani 1911P8019, if you like it. read more
