I called and booked an appointment to have my wedding dress altered. I moved to Colorado and since all my family is in NJ, the wedding will be held there. I explained my situation to the seamstress on the phone, that I was willing to travel and she scheduled me in smoothly. However, as I stayed on the line to schedule my appointment in my phone I could CLEARLY overhear her GOSSIPPING to one of her customers about me. She rudely said, "OH my GOD... she's out of state and trying to get it done here??? Why doesn't she just do it over there??? She's in Colorado and her wedding is here." I called back and cancelled my appointment and told her that I could overhear their conversation about me and that it was extremely unprofessional. She blamed it on her wearing a mask, saying that I didn't hear her. I told her I am not completely asinine and I could hear clearly. I don't care how good her services are, if she is unprofessional, rude, and treats customers like crap then I will go ANYWHERE else. I am not a dramatic person by any means... this is just unacceptable. Who knows what this lady is saying about you behind your back when you're giving her your money? Yeon at Fashion Stitch was recommended to me by a bridal shop I've been frequenting. I mentioned I was desperate to find a good place for alterations since the place where I got my gown wanted to charge me $2,000. I read all the reviews online and decided it was worth a shot. I was nervous because I have a totally custom, beaded lace Justin Alexander gown and it was ordered when I was in my best shape. Then I had a baby. With my *destination wedding* only 3 weeks away and needing all kinds of changes made to my gown, it was a tall order. I made an appointment, Yeon pinned me and made note of all my requests (including having a piece of my mother's gown sewn into the lining of mine, and adding a custom embroidered monogram dress label) - a complicated alteration since it needed to be delicately treated in order to not disturb the pattern of the lace and beading - and still make it fit like a glove. I left that appointment feeling sad about the way my dress looked and unsure that Yeon would be able to make it look good on me again. When I went for my fitting just a couple days ago, I was floored. All the things I thought would be too difficult to do, were done to perfection. The dress and patterns didn't look the least bit disturbed - everything laid flat against my body with no drooping, sagging, or tenting, and she gave me a waistline and a curvy silhouette. She also added a 9-hook French bustle that is absolutely perfect. She is quick, pleasant, expertly skilled, AND very reasonably priced - all in all I spent just over 10% of what the dress boutique wanted to charge me! This small, family-owned business does awesome work for low prices. I had several bridesmaid dresses altered here for a fraction of what it would cost at bridal shops (and with better craftsmanship). My friend had a new neckline put on her wedding dress along with many alterations, a train bustle, etc. for well under $200. Her bustle was very easy to do at the wedding, which has been the opposite of my experiences with David's Bridal bustles. The owner is absolutely amazing- friendly, professional, and a genius when it comes to her craft. I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough. Now that it is my turn for my wedding, I am going there with my dress and suggesting that my bridesmaids do the same. I don't think there could be a higher endorsement. I had a somewhat difficult alteration to a dress that needed to be done and Yeon did such an amazing job! I was so happy with the result and how friendly Yeon was. I quite simply can't speak highly enough of this wonderful shop! I bought my wedding dress at David's Bridal, and had a really good experience buying the dress there. When it came time for alterations, I just assumed I would go there, and booked a reservation for my August fitting in February. I showed up in August and the alterations they were quoting me ended up being more than I had paid for the dress-- $300 for a bustle (!!!), $200 to hem, $150 to buy a strap, $150 to attach the strap, $75 to PERMANENTLY attach the strap. At that point they hadn't even covered the alterations I needed (like taking parts if the bust in) and I was a panicked mess. I was texting my MOH in the dressing room and she suggested calling Yeon, as she had heard good things. In 10 minutes I had an appointment set for three days later. Yeon is incredibly professional and efficient. In that first appointment she had everything pinned and ready to go, and her quote was INCREDIBLY reasonable. So much better than David's and another seamstress I had been to in the past. We set up another 2 appointments for the dress, and at the second appointment she took in a few more spots, but it was really perfect. She offered advice that went a long way (the David's Bridal I went to put me in a corset that was 2 sizes too small. She helped me with alternatives so everything wasn't all squeezed in!) and was just a fun person to be in the room with. Another thing that Yeon did that I am so appreciative of is that she kept my dress with her until the day before the wedding, when she pressed it. That meant I could bring it right to my hotel room and keep it out of a garment bag as much as possible, so I didn't have to worry about steaming it day-of. My mom was actually begging Yeon to be a guest at the wedding! She is just simply the best person in the area for alterations. I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Because of some... shall we say... ISSUES I had with David's Bridal, I decided to take my wedding gown elsewhere to be altered. I called Fashion Stitch on the recommendation of my cousin, and was able to make an appointment for a fitting that worked with my schedule. Had it not been for the all-knowing powers of Garmin, I would have passed right by the place. Fashion stitch is a tiny house on a busy road with a little sign. They must get their business by word of mouth (and now word of Yelp) recommendations, because I doubt anyone would just notice it was there and stop in. I entered the small, crowded front room and was immediately directed to a back room. There were many dresses hanging along one wall, a mirror on another wall, and a wedding gown draped for steaming in front of the window. It was a little awkward because there was no designated "changing room," but the owner did close the door to the room, so I had privacy while donning my gown. My dress didn't need many alterations, but the ones it did need weren't cake. The original design included straps that I chose not to use, and they were attached in between the top layer of the dress and the lining. Since I bought the floor sample, the dress also needed a new zipper (someone or several someones obviously too large for this dress tried it on at some point and the zipper was pulled away from the fabric), a hem, and of course a bustle. The seamstress (I feel bad- I really wish I knew her name) quickly went to work on pinning the hem and the bustle and noted on my charge slip the other alterations to be made. At this point, I said goodbye to my gown and hoped for the best. When I went back for my second fitting, I was completely pleased with how my dress had turned out. In addition to replacing the zipper completely, the seamstress had added several hooks and loops so that the outer decorative buttons would lay flat to conceal it. The straps were removed with such precision that you couldn't even tell they were there to start with. Of course, the hem was even, and she used buttons that matched those already on my dress to create the bustle. In addition to alterations, Fashion Stitch also creates garments from scratch. I will definitely go back here if I am ever in need of either service again. read more

Young is AMAZING. I had to get my bridesmaids dress altered in the worst possible way. The dress itself was gorgeous but it wasn't flattering on me at all. It was too big and way too long. On top of that, the dress has a train and if I cut it off, I'll be on my sister-in-law's you know what list. I was so nervous about the train that I literally had knots in my stomach. I must've repeated myself numerous times about the darn train... but even with the repetition I was STILL nervous. Helllllooo worry wart! Due to it being wedding season and all, Young was backed up with appointments. I had to wait 3 weeks to see the fate of my train. Oh the worry! Oh the stomach knots! With sweaty hands and a pounding heart, I arrive at Fashion Stitch. Filled with anticipation, I put on the dress.. It was GORGEOUS and the dress fits like a glove. The train is stunning and she even bustled it. She used leftover fabric and sewed a button to match. Absolute perfection! Young's pricing is BEYOND reasonable. I thoroughly encourage anyone needing alterations (simple or complicated) to bring them to Young. I agree with Michelle W. - she's an Alterations Surgeon! read more

Yeon is such a darling. She is professional, adorable, and the sweetest little lady. I called her up one day in March with only a few weeks till my April wedding. She saw me the same day and said it would not be a problem getting the dress ready before my wedding. I went in for 2 consecutive weeks for fittings and it was perfect. I actually had a pretty horrible encounter with my bridal shop seamstress who tried to cut of the laces on my dress. Yeon knew the right way to alter a dress. She took the laces off and reapplied them afterwards. I got to keep the lace on the dress I fell in love with and even got to save a couple bucks over the bridal shop. Drove all the way to New Jersey to come and get my wedding dress altered here and I am glad that I did. I got my wedding dress for a steal, but it was huge on me, so I needed a lot of work done to it. I also had bought straps I wanted added to it as well. I paid around $350 for my alterations which seems like a lot, but I would have paid way more than that at a dress shop. At my first fitting, I was expecting for her to need to alter it again with how much material needed to be taken in. To my surprise, it fit like a glove!! The bustle she added was also beautifully done. I couldn't be happier with my dress and I wouldn't hesitate to trust them with any alterations. Highly reccomend. read more

I'm really surprised at all of the 5-star reviews that Young has gotten, because my experience with her was pretty terrible. I brought in my strapless, tea-length wedding dress to be altered. I needed a handful of alterations: 1. Padding in the breast area removed 2. The dress taken in around the bust 3. The dress shortened a few inches with the tulle lining peeking out an inch or two like a petticoat The first time I came in, Young measured and pinned my dress. I tried it on with the bra I'd bought but she said that I wouldn't need the bra once she altered the dress, because it would support me enough. Okay, fine. A few weeks later, I returned to pick up the dress. She'd taken in the bust but only removed the padding from one side of the breast area. Also, she shortened the dress but didn't leave the tulle peeking out. Luckily, I still had two more weeks before the wedding, so I didn't freak out yet. I just asked her to fix it and she said that it would be ready when I came back the following week. The following week, a week before my wedding, I returned. The tulle was peeking out of the bottom of the dress but it was HORRIBLY uneven. And she still hadn't taken the padding out of the dress. She fixed the tulle and padding as I waited and when I put on the dress, I noticed three things: there a horrible crease across my breasts, and a giant smudge on the torso. Also, it was incredibly wrinkled. She told me that the crease would go away when I put on a bra, but she'd told me that I didn't need a bra! I tried it on with the bra I bought, but it showed through. She was able to remove the smudge but said that the wrinkles were just how the fabric was (silk cotton blend? I don't think so). She said that there was nothing more that she could do, so I spent the next week frantically searching for a bra that worked with the dress, since she'd altered it so that my original bra didn't work. Yon is, by far the BEST person I know for alterations. I've been to many places, and none of which can even come close to Fashion Stitch. I've taken my engagement dress, wedding dress, bridesmaids dresses, and many other things to Yon. She's fast, she's good, and she knows what she's doing! She is by appointment only which is good because the place is a bit small, but it gets the job done. Each time I take something to Yon, she's gets it done in less than a week. I feel very comfortable that my merchandise is in Yon's hands! Her motto should be like Allstate's because when you go to Yon, "Your in good hands" lol :) Pricing is very reasonable. Young (the owner) is like a world class heart surgeon of dresses, a true master of her craft. She is a total perfectionist and will not leave your dress looking anything less than perfect. I have been going to her for 5 years with prom gowns and bridesmaids dresses, some that needed extensive work, and have never been dissapointed. I have recommened many brides and friends to her and all were very satisfied. She also does tailoring. She charges reasonible prices too. I didn't want to get specific because honestly I felt intimidated by her. She didn't listen to what I wanted. I went here because everyone said she was the best. After my initial fitting I should have trusted my gut and left. She made me feel very uncomfortable when she insisted I buy a plunge bra. I told her they don't make them in my size and we needed to sew in some fabric to hide the lowest bra I could find. She just kept saying "buy plunge bra". I was almost in tears. Instead of trying someone else I came back to a dress I hated that made me look extremely frumpy and was too long. I bought a second dress that needed a very simple alteration and she charged the same price with $25 off since I hated the first dress. I don't understand the pricing since one was very complex and the other seriously easy. I took both home and decided to wear the first one after I took some tulle out of the petticoat. It was so long because she insisted I have a train even though I said no. I told her I wanted it short because I was switching from a 3" wedge to a flat for dancing. She ignored that and hemmed it way too long. I called and decided to be stern to get what I wanted. When I told her to hem the 4 extra inches off the dress she said only if I paid again. So I wore 4" heels the whole wedding, tripped all night, had one awkward dance and hated my dress. Made my night really shitty and cost me over $300 for a $600 dress that needed fabric added then another $275 for a very simple fix on a $600 dress. I could have fixed the hem myself at home but I ran out of time since I got it back right before the wedding it was so simple. I just don't understand how I'm the only person that had such a bad experience. And It would have been cheaper at David's Bridal. Just be safe and shop around. Make sure she listens to what you want and if she says no get out of there. read more

I had a terrible experience here involving the alteration of my wedding dress. I initially brought my dress in in September of 2019, and was already stressed because I was in the unusual situation of the dress being too small and needing to be let out (in addition to normal issues, like a hem, bustle, etc). We discussed a price that felt fair, but when I came back for the second fitting the dress would still barely close. Although the bustle and hem turned out ok, I could not breathe and the bodice of the dress still looked terrible. I gave her another try at it, but when I came back for the third fitting, she had over shot and the entire top of the (strapless) dress was now so large that every time I raised my arms, the entire thing slid down. I think my favorite part of this visit was she asked me in a non-joking manner why I would need to raise my arms at my wedding anyway?! Moreover, she would not listen to me on how I had wanted the cups altered, and told me I should use a set of double cup inserts instead (as you can imagine, this looked ridiculous). By the time of this third trip into the store, I only had a couple of weeks until my wedding and the dress was literally unwearable. At this point I was told that "it looked fine and there was nothing else that she could do." The stress of this situation for a bride is unimaginable - I couldn't take two steps in the dress without it falling down and I was being told that this was as good as it would get. At this point, I was in tears. My mother had come to the appointment with me and emergently started calling other tailors in the area - we found someone willing to work on it, but I am from out of state and had to bring the dress in that day. As we got ready to leave, I WAS ASKED FOR FULL PAYMENT AND CHARGED THE FULL PRICE FOR THE DRESS BEFORE I WAS ALLOWED TO LEAVE WITH IT. The dress was unfinished, unwearable, still had pins in it, and wasn't even steamed and yet I WAS CHARGED FOR FULL ALTERATIONS. At the time, I indescribably upset and was focused on just getting the dress to someone who could fix it, but to this day I regret paying Fashion Stitch and wish I had fought them back. So. All in all I paid several hundred dollars for incomplete alterations, and then had to take my dress to a second tailor to pay a few more hundred dollars to fix the Fashion Stitch chop job. If your wedding dress needs more than a straightforward hem - stay away. read more

I have a huge Cinderella ball gown from Oleg Cassini and it needed a lotttt of work, needed to be taken in 6 inches,bustled, hemmed (which wasn't an easy task with this gown) and everything came out absolutely perfect. My dress fits me like a glove and I feel and look amazing in it! All this work probably would've cost around $700 at David's bridal but she only charged me $300! Like many do these days, I ordered my dress online and it was way too big, must ave been because I did not properly measure myself. The Fashion Stitch did an amazing job and the price was on par with other local seamstresses I've been too. When I went to pick up the dress, she had me try it on one last time.
