I had a great experience, I was looking for Bridal gowns. It's not easy to shop for a bridal and I have had multiple experiences where the shops were snooty and the people working there all felt like they were entitled. working with Linda here was a breath of fresh air. I told her what I wanted, she let me browse the selections and really spent time with me and I ended up picking a dress that she picked out for me! She let my 2 guests browse as well so they felt like they were involved and had nothing but nice comments- unlike other bridal shops who I feel like they rush you or act like your wasting their time. I am surprised at the comments regarding the customer service because I felt the most comfortable here! I would absolutely make an appointment with Linda. As for the only 4 stars, I did have a budget and when I called they said oh yes we have a bunch of dresses under $1000 however they did not. Maybe for like a size 8-10 have more options but anything higher then that your slim pickings, and bridal gowns run a lot smaller then normal dress sizes! They also stated on their website they have over 1000 of dresses but they don't, they still need to order so it's not that much of a selection if your limited on time and size but do give Linda a try because she was extremely helpful and made our experience amazing! read more

My overall experience at Jans Boutique - Bridal was not a good one. I am only giving one star because the seamstress really seems to empathize and feel bad for me. After having a challenge with some other locations I decided to reach out via text to confirm that the boutique had a variety of what I was looking for. I was ensured that they did have what I was looking for in the appropriate sizes for the samples only for me to arrive and they do not! Not one dress was what I requested in the text messages. Overall the energy was just not welcoming and after reaching out to confirm the trip was a waste. Alyssa (our salesperson) was perfect. She was down to earth but professional. We had been to a million dress stores beforehand and we agreed she was our favorite salesperson we had encountered. We said "yes" to the dress for my daughters high school dance. It's stunning. The owner or Manager is also very nice. It was such a special experience made even better by our delightful sales person, Sharon Basck! Jan's is the worst place ever!They are nice to you if everything is good, but if you have a problem they are awful! I bought my gown there for my sons wedding, worst mistake ever! Brenda was my seamstress she is the worst seamstress! I was told she was the best and had worked on the gown I had. First she cut my train off and my gown was to short. Brenda told me she could fit it ( once the fabric is cut you can't fit it)! Well she stretched out my gown now it's to big. She ruined my dress! When I said I think it's needs to be taken in she was charging me more money! The manager came over who is rude! When I told her Brenda stretched the material she told me I must of lost weight well I didn't. Material stretches. I was charged $450 for alterations! Jan's would not give me my money back for the dress or get me a new one. This was two weeks before my sons wedding! There was no way in hell was I wearing that gown! I called Marlene's in Collingswood told them my situation. Gina from Marlene contacted her sales rep and ordered me the same dress, I had it in five days. Plus It was $75 cheaper. Gina contacted her seamstress told her my situation . When I picked up my gown took to the seamstress, now it's one week before wedding. The seamstress was excellent my gown looked beautiful. She was way cheaper then Jans. I picked it up two days before the wedding. A good seamstress gets it done right the first time not like Jans seamstress. Jan's has been our go-to for the past few years for prom dresses and formal wear for my girls. They do have a huge selection of gowns. This particular visit was okay. The young girl who helped us - I think her name was Taylor - was polite, although not particularly helpful. Both of my girls are plus size, and while Jan's does have the largest selection of plus size gowns, they are most definitely more mother of the bride friendly - they are older, matronly looking for the most part. They had no short dresses for my one daughter (size 16), which we needed for a semi-formal dance; and both girls definitely ended up with gowns that looked way more mature than we wanted. You can order, which we were told several times, but it's so hard to invest upwards of $600 on a gown and not know what it will look like on. Alterations for my one daughter's gown added nearly $300 to the price of the dress. They were expertly - and quickly - done, but that was a big hit on top of a $500 dress! Overall, they have a big selection, but there's definitely nothing warm and fuzzy here - it's a good place to go and know you'll find SOMETHING - it just may not be what you had in mind. read more

Brenda has the sewing talent of the Godmother in Cinderella! I am an Ovarian Cancer Survivor and when Ivy helped me find a beautiful teal gown to wear when my daughter gets married, the magic began. The sample dress was a size 16. When Charon ordered my size 10 dress, the dress company did not have enough teal. Did I tell you that teal is the color that symbolizes ovarian cancer awareness? And I went shopping for the dress only 2 months before my daughters wedding... Charon called me and gave me the chance to order another color, and also offered to have Brenda take the sample dress down to my size. I trusted everyone at the shop, and now, two weeks before the wedding, I have a custom fitted teal gown and a beautiful silk/fur wrap to wear! Let me start off by saying how much I love Jan's and have always gotten all of my homecoming and prom dresses from them. Although I adore their dresses, the staff is not always the most welcoming and can be very judgy at times. When I was shopping for a prom dress, staff member Janet made me feel very uncomfortable and like I was being watched in a negative way. I am a size 000-00 in their dresses and was trying on a dress that was a size 0. I went to sit down to make sure the dress was comfortable to sit in throughout the time I would be at prom and she immediately shouted at me from across the room when a different stylist was already helping me. She told me to sit down extremely slowly and carefully so I do not burst the dress open. As I understand these dresses are expensive and they do not want them ruined, I had already decided I was purchasing the dress and she made it out to seem like I was too big to fit into it. She then watched my every move as I had the dress on and kept telling me to be careful, making me feel very uncomfortable and like I was too fat to be wearing the dress, which I very well am not. This is not the first time I have felt uncomfortable here, however it is the first time I have been shouted at causing everyone in the place to stare and look at me like I was doing something wrong, even though I was very well just trying on a dress the way it should be tried on and in a polite manner. My stylist laughed uncomfortably and even looked distraught at the fact she would say something in such a condescending way. She also informed me that this was not the first time she has made harsh comments to the young girls who come here as well. Very disappointing as someone who is small to be treated as if they are 100 pounds more than they are. All girls and women of all sizes should feel comfortable especially when trying on dresses for such special moments. I am just happy I did not let it affect the way I felt about my appearance in any way, but not all girls are like this and therefore it should not be happening. read more

My only complaint is that the people on the phone or the cash register aren't very nice or professional. The person at the cash register ( i think the owner or maybe a family member) didn't congratulate me or thank me for the purchase. It's not that i need the attention, it's just that it's a good business practice to thank those who support your business. In any case, your not done with the sale at the cash register. I bought my dress on 2/7/2024 and called today, 3/15/24, as I was told that the dress would arrive in 3 weeks. The man on the phone, said in the most obnoxious way possible that they had sent me a text on 3/7. I went to Jan's looking for a dress for my daughter's upcoming wedding. I have to say at the time I made the appointment I wasn't thrilled about the $15 non-refundable fee that was due just to shop. Jans Boutique is the McDonalds of dress stores. I was treated poorly. This store is a JOKE. No sense in picking dresses out online as they suggested, because they wont have them in stock. The staff will consume 30 of your 45 minute appointment wandering around trying to locate things that might look like the dresses you really wanted. I'm giving this store a one star review because this place is just atrocious. First of all, when trying on dresses, you are required to wear gloves (which isn't that bad, but it gets worse). You aren't allowed to zip up your own dress and the sales people would randomly pop their head in the dressing room uninvited to make sure you aren't harming their dresses. I also noticed that there are timers near every dressing room with a set time of 45 minutes and in my experience, once that timer goes off, they urge you to make a decision right away or come back another day. Not to mention, there are so many signs around the dressing room telling you not to take pictures of the dress. Just a heads up, when you ask them for the style number of a dress, they don't give you the real style number because they don't want you to go somewhere else and buy that same dress. The style number they give you is unique to this boutique. *rolls eyes* Oh and did I mention the crap costume jewelry they charge your eyeballs out for??? They have regular fake diamond earrings you can find at the weave store for $1 tops for about $25. This place is such an overpriced rip off. They also claim to have the most plus size dresses in Jersey, but in reality they only have like 10 plus size dresses in the store. Also, don't ask them if they have a particular dress in stock because they will lie to you and tell you that it's in stock just to get you to come to the store. The staff is rude and they discriminate a lot. If you come dressed down, they will assume that you don't have money and they will take you to the cheap dresses on the sales rack upstairs. They are so nice, and Lenora & Linda are the best!!!! Ask for one of them if you go- you won't regret it. They helped with every single one of our appointments! I am writing this review on behalf of my wife and daughter who went to Jan's yesterday. My ladies went to Jan's to find a prom dress and they raved about their experience. They had a 9:45 a.m. appointment and was enthusiastically met by Rox who was their salesperson (don't know title) during their visit. Rox got to know my wife and daughter, had an idea of what my daughter might like and tried on several dresses while my wife waited in the lounge for my daughter to model dresses. They text me several pics of different dress and I could tell they truly enjoyed their experience. I read the other reviews about Jan's - maybe the early appointment made the difference. They have some very nice dresses. I just don't like the hounding. I had a family emergency and the owner (I assume) was very condescending as he drilled me about coming to pick up the dress that I need a month from now. Then they charged me an additional $25 to layaway the dress. Thank God this is my daughter's senior prom and I'm done with these activities. I regret going here and certainly won't recommend anyone else. I should have followed my first mind and had her dress made. The one good thing about this experience was our salesperson Juliana. It was time to buy my daughter's first homecoming dance dress, and I had no idea what to get for her. I was dreading shopping, and was counting on a long, stressful experience. I decided to give Jan's a try first, and boy was I glad I did! When my daughter and I walked in the door, we were immediately greeted by a store associate who inquired as to our needs. When we told her, she escorted us directly to two racks of appropriate dresses, and told us that a sales associate would be with us shortly. It was only a minute or two before we were greeted by Maddy. She was the perfect associate for us - a senior in high school who knew exactly what would be right for homecoming. (For those who would be concerned by her age, rest assured that there were sales associates of various ages, and I bet the store could have matched just about anyone with an associate to meet their needs.) Maddy had a sweet personality, and was very helpful without being overly-opinionated or pushy in any way. After my daughter had tried on a number of dresses, Maddy quietly whispered her opinion to me as to which one she thought was best, and I agreed. Thankfully my daughter agreed as well! The dress is strapless and I was concerned about my daughter being chilly; Maddy was able to suggest a perfect shawl to compliment the dress. I went to the store expecting to spend $300-$400, and while that certainly could have been spent, the beautiful cocktail dress and shawl combined were only $140!!!! Only giving three stars because our stylist was amazing. Went shopping for daughters Junior prom dress. Found the dress in the color she loved but it was obviously damaged. Missing beading and had a small hole right in the front. The owner had the nerve to claim nothing is wrong with the dress. Her reasoning? Because it's made in China. So it's ok for a dress to be damaged if it's made in China? Said that it couldn't be repaired and I can buy it or she'll just put it out for someone else to buy. When asked if I could get another she said you could but if it comes in same way it's your dress. Absolutely horrible customer service and rude. I ended up getting my daughter a dress from there but I regret spending any of my money there and will plan better for senior prom and go somewhere else. She left in tears! We have gone to other dress shops trying on prom dresses and at each shop my daughter who is a slim athletic built tall girl fit perfectly into a size 4 but at Jan's somehow she was a size 8 and still being told she was just too big for their dresses! How can they possibly treat young girls this way? An absolute waste of time! Paid a $15 booking fee (that doesn't go towards a purchase of a dress, nor refundable if you don't find a dress you like). Zoey our consult wasn't too helpful, lacked ambition, and rushed us through the entire appointment. It's merely impossible to try on dresses for a milestone time in your life, when you're feeling rushed. None of the dresses my daughter saw online were available in the store, even though they said they were in stock when she looked online. Same style dresses in different colors were what they had to offer. Then, one of the ladies behind the counter recommended ordering the dress my daughter wanted to try on but warned her that if they order the dress, it's hers no matter what. I was looking for a dress for my friends bat mitzvah and we had an appointment and they were really helpful.

I have bought numerous prom gowns from Jan's over the past four years. The sales girls are wonderful from the moment you walk in- Personable, knowledgeable and understanding. This past month, we purchased my niece's senior prom gown from Jan's, as usual. While we were still home taking pictures, the sharp plastic boning in both sides of the gown began poking out, scratching her sides raw. We tried everything- Duct tape, bandaids, etc. We even tried cutting the sharp tips off, but it only pushed more of the boning up. The poor kid couldn't dance or even lift her arms up the entire night. I called Jan's. They asked for me to send photos. I did. They called me back and said that their rule is that when the gowns leave "in pristine condition" they are our responsibility. They did NOT offer me a penny back, BUT said that, if I can come back in and buy ANOTHER gown (mind you, this was her last prom), they would give me 10% off. I went to Jans with my mother to buy a dress for my mom for her grandson's wedding. This should have been so happy. My mother found a dress she loved and I purchased the dress for her. It was not cheap. But my mom was so happy and I was thrilled to do this for her. But then just a few weeks later as we were about to get dress altered so my mother could wear it, my mom suffered a major stroke, her brain was bleeding uncontrollably, and tragically she passed away just a day later. The dress had never been altered. After her funeral I was just too distraught to deal with Jans so I had a friend bring the dress back to Jans to return it and getting a refund. But the Jans manager and owner REFUSED to take it back. They REFUSED TO GIVE ME A REFUND. They did not care the dress had never been worn or that my mother had died. That is unbelievably insensitive and just plain bad customer service. My mother clearly never wore the dress IT HAD NEVER BEEN ALTERED TO FIT HER AND SHE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO WEAR IT. Now I want this story known far and wide so that everyone knows how Jans dealt with me in my time of grief. I regret not taking my mom to Nordstroms to buy the dress, they would have handled this with care and dignity and I would have had a refund in under a minute. (I could write another review just on Jans crazy rules for trying on dresses, but I wanted this one focused on their bad conduct). Avoid Jans like the plague. read more

The service upon selecting my gown was good. My concern was that this was February and my son's wedding was in October as I planned on losing a little weight before the wedding and my gown was beaded. They said not to worry that their seamstress were very good so that would not be an issue. The gown cost me $848. I decided it was safer to have Jan's do my alterations being they were very promising on the workmanship of their staff. I was called when the dress came in and was told to pick it up as they cannot store it so I had to go pick it up and keep until my first scheduled fitting. I should note that the store is an hour and a half drive from my house. When I came for my first fitting, I had lost weight and the seamstress made all the alterations and said I would have to come in two more times. I agreed. I have to say I was taken back my the cost of the alterations as it was more that half of what my gown cost -- $485! I went for my fittings and when I came to what was suppose to be my final fitting the gown did not fit right. She put these lips in under the cups that pointed out of the gown like daggers which she promptly removed. Next, the seamstress pulled the shoulders of my gown too high causing the cups of the gown to go half way up my breasts so I looked like I had two sets. Plus the gown was a little shorter in length than I preferred. She told me to take the gown home and work on what would work best under the gown to fix the issue of the cups -- meaning to use boob tape or a bra that would push me up higher. I literally started to cry as my son's wedding was two weeks away and the gown did not look right at all. I said to her I paid $485 for alterations and I am not happy. The seamstress said that she would try to fix the issue and that I could come back a week later which I did. The gown still looked wrong when I came in for my fourth fitting and it was one week away from my son's wedding - no time was left for me to correct the situation short of just buying a new gown. I was devastated. Sadly, I did not feel like I should have the day of the wedding as I was self-conscious about the gown and my daughter in law had to keep letting me know throughout the day if I had two sets of boobs to adjust my dress. My suggestion is -- use your own seamstress -- the cost of the alterations was a total rip off. read more

They brought me three dresses and none of them even came close to what I was looking for color or price. The sales women barely helped me and kept calling me the wrong name.
