Short story: I was very happy with Jansen Optical and highly recommend them. Dr. Prevost, who I saw was great, and their staff is extremely helpful. Overall, excellent customer service and quick turn around time for contacts (same day) and eyeglasses (one week). Long story: - It was easy to get an appointment - I called and got an appointment the next day. - They verified my insurance and explained how my benefits would be applied given different scenarios BEFORE my appointment (e.g., because I'm a contact lens wearer, some contacts are and are not covered by my plan, so this affects how much you will owe out-of-pocket). Given past experiences at other eye doctors *cough B Vo Vision,* this is unheard of for staff to clearly communicate how they bill insurance and how that will affect what I pay out-of-pocket, so there were no surprises. I feel like I should add that this detailed explanation was unprompted. Many stars for this. -I saw Dr. Prevost and while the appointment was quick, I felt like she was very thorough. She took time to explain differences between contact lens solutions and the importance of changing contacts as recommended. -Also, if you are a high-index contact lens wearer, Jansen Opticial is awesome because they have contacts in stock for you... so, they don't have to order them and you don't have to make multiple visits back to the office for follow-ups. Very convenient. I wear a -9.50 and they had them in-stock. Uhmazing. -I also got glasses at Jansen Optical. Tracie is amazeballs... that woman knows her stuff. She was patient, kind and helped me find and choose the right glasses for me. She adjusted them perfectly and it only took one week for my eyeglass to arrive. Also, they offer free adjustments anytime if you need them. -The staff, namely Tracie, was also willing to sit down with me and figure out which was the most cost efficient way to apply my insurance... either to my glasses or contacts. She was very patient and didn't seem to mind one bit and even stated that she knew it was a big investment when buying new glasses. Clearly, Jansen optical's customer service is above par (unlike other subpar eye doctors *cough B Vo Vision*). -They also gave me a discount (they met Walgreen's prices on contacts and another eyeglass store's price on my eyeglass frames).... Lots of stars for this. Needless to say, I found the right eye clinic for me! So happy I found them! read more

I've seen Dr. Jansen for years and love her, but what motivated me to write the review was Dr. Hamissou as our children's doctor. She's so incredibly nice and they love her! I think they would chat with her for hours if they could. This is their 3rd year visiting her and my 10 year old's first time trying out contact lenses. She made it easy and fun for him and he had a huge smile on his face for the rest of the day. I have absolutely terrible vision with astigmatism and Dr. Jansen always corrects my vision just right with contacts. I've had people over correct with my contact prescription and my eyes get strained and tired, but she seems to understand the issue and sets me up perfectly. read more

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I love Dr. Hamissou and I am sad that I will need to find a new doctor since this office is a complete disaster. When I ordered my glasses and contacts I gave them my new address. My contacts did not show up so I called and found out that they were sent to my old address and they asked if I knew anyone there to go get them from. Uh no I live an hour away from that address now. Then when my glasses didn't show up I had to call. I think they never placed the order because I was told they will put and rush on it and I should get them in a week. They showed up in the wrong size. I called again and was told they would order me another pair. I showed them my current size was 54 and the new glasses were 45. Hoping they wouldn't make the same mistake again. Now the second pair they sent is a 50, still too small. I give up and won't give them another penny. read more

Jansen Optical has surely fine tuned their business over the years. I had the pleasure of Dr Sally Hamissou's expertise. She explained every procedure she was performing ahead of time. Dr Hamissou is very knowledgeable and efficient. Caye assisted in helping me pick out frames keeping in mind my insurance coverage(which ends on April 1st)with much pleasant patience. The team got me in for an exam before my insurance expires and even put a rush on my new glasses so they would be covered. I love Jansen Optical. Thank you Dr Hamissou and Caye. I came in as a walk in right when they opened. The 2 nice young ladies up front greeted me with a smile and made sure they got everything they needed professionally and diligently. The optometrists assistant was very kind and made sure she knew everything that we were going to do and always made sure I was ready. The doctor was very informational and made sure to go to the next step when I was ready. She answered all my questions and made sure to go out of her way to explain things that I didnt ask about but that were very important to know and also symptoms that I should look out for as the doctor tells everyone so they are in the know. I liked Dr. Jansen a lot. She is so sweet and very professional. I loved her. I would see her again and recommend her. The office staff was nice, too. Annoying, however, that as part of an eye exam, they don't take a PD measurement. I kind of need that information in order to order a pair of glasses. I called and was told I'd have to come in for a separate appointment and pay a separate co-pay in order to get that information as it was not "part of a normal eye exam". Really??? That's ridiculous, and that's a waste of my time. I don't see why one extra measurement should require an entirely separate appointment...especially when it's something that I can try to do at home...you're going to charge me for an extra appointment? The glasses I got there is GREAT! It was just what I was looking for although it is a bit expensive even with discount and insurance. Unfortunately my contacts experience there was one of the worst. They gave me the wrong contacts (opposite power) and I had to wait there for 30 minutes wearing that lens. After 30 minutes was when they realized that they gave me the wrong contacts! But worse of all.... the contacts they charge are the MOST EXPENSIVE I have ever seen. Beware their over charge! read more

Very horrible experience my mom went in showed her broken pair of glasses the lady that attended her by the name of Cassidy is just horribly rude and messed up my moms order mind you she looked at the pair of broken glasses and submitted the wrong thing ordered lenses but no frame while she was over there giggling and making fun of my mom with her coworker about how she broke her glasses. My mom was uncomfortable at that point they said there where going to get her a replacement and now it's been 2 months and my mom has yet not received a replacement. We went in today apparently someone messed up the description of and ordered lenses instead of the frame and lenses mind you she was the same lady that attended her the first time and said she did not know who it was and that she wasn't the only one waiting for something. She handled everything very poorly and was very rude and told us we had to just wait again for the 3rd time!!!! read more

In short: scheduled appointment, arrived 15 mins early, was told they were quiet that day (great, I thought), 1 hour 15 mins later I was seen- good grief! Was rushed through the checkup and told my eyes were great- one is not (the close up world is blurry) and not being a glasses wearer I borrow my wifes reading glasses, so I needed a checkup to get my own prescription. Got fitted for contacts and glasses yesterday by Dr. Hamissou and it was the most professional and comprehensive eye exam I ever had. Even when we had to switch between 3/4 different pair of contacts and find the best quote with my insurance. She was very patient and thorough with all the tests. BUT BEWARE!! While I LOVED the appt. with the doctor (had Dr Cheryl Hamissou) and give her personally 5 stars, there was a disappointing occurrence with the insurance which I would rate as 1 star. They were aware of my insurance and even told me what I would get towards the contacts. They sent me home with a pair of contacts just to make sure that they indeed 'worked'. When I called a week later to order the contacts, I was told because I did not order contacts on the day of my service, my insurance would only pay HALF of what they told me they would cover when I was in the office!!!! I absolutely would have ordered them on the day of service had I known. As mentioned before, I REALLY like Dr. Hamissou. She took time with me to find the best solution for me. If you have insurance make sure you understand ALL the details of it before going into their office and do not rely on them to tell you. read more

Still love the frames they have here, but they often don't tell you if the same frame comes in another color that can be ordered. You have to ask. Also, they have a "no return" policy on frames. I got home and realized the frames weren't exactly what I wanted (I think I was getting hungry and light headed since I had been looking for an hour) but was told there were no returns. read more

I went in knowing I hate wearing glasses but would probably just come out with a stronger prescription and an admonishment to take them off their resting place on the top of my head and wear them for more than just reading and driving! That wasn't the case at all but rather, Dr. H gave me 4 options, including contacts or surgery. I felt heard and supported! I decided to try contacts and get new glasses. The person who helped me choose my new frames was very, very patient and helpful! I took forever! Then, the sweet person who helped me with my contacts was probably wishing she had a different job because I was so uncoordinated,, but instead, she was patient and helpful, too! Embarrassingly, I had to go back the next day because I could not get one of my contacts out. Dr. H saw me and realized I'd never actually gotten that one in! No wonder my new contacts weren't helping me read better! She sent me off with another contact to replace the one I didn't realize I'd lost in my bathroom. She also gave me orders to rest my poor poked on eye for a couple of days. The entire office staff was so nice and kind that I won't feel the need to slink back in there when I return for my one week check for my contacts. read more

*** FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT EMPLOYMENT WITH THEM*** Sure, staff is nice for customer service reasons. Let me fill you on the work environment. They hire in the promise of teaching you along the way. Great. Awesome. But once you're in you notice that the manager has a short fuse and is patronizing. Albeit not very patient with you as you're learning. This person gives off a, "Are you f**** serious," vibe when questions are asked. At first, I thought, "Hey, maybe they're having a bad day." Not the case. It got to the point where every little thing was nitpicked at. When I made a mistake I was confronted in front of other staff members and even in front of patients. I.E there was a time when had forgotten to put in codes and while with a patient in front of them, they yelled, "Are you serious, (my name) ?!" I was afraid to show up to work because I had the mindset that everything I did was wrong or wasn't going to be done right on their terms. You can definitely tell that there is favoritism within the staff. There were days when I heard two of the most senior staff members talking down on new staff members or when someone made a mistake they would chit chat/gossip. The owner is nice to patients but lo' and behold don't piss her off. IMO terrible communication skills to be a boss. If you're a boss, I feel like you should NEVER bring into light your staffs' faults in front of other staff members. Its embarrassing and belittling. Time offs had to be approved by the owner but there was one staff member who could leave for basically anything and leave early. Again, the favoritism but they called it seniority? Don't get me wrong, the practice itself is a great place in general if you're a patient. The patients are all very sweet and patient. I loved every person I had the opportunity to care for. But as for employment... Think twice. read more

I have been extremely satisfied with Jansen Optical. Their staff is so courteous and pleasant to be around. I had 2 visits with them in a short span of 6 months and both times were very pleasant. I had accidentally thrown out a pair of RGP lenses that take usually 7-10 days to receive and needed them for this weekend. I called them moday told them my dilemma and asked if there was anything they can do to rush it? I was late for my appointment by almost 15 minutes but that was no big deal. Waited less than 10 minutes to be seen once I filled out the usual paperwork. They have new technology that takes the place of dilating the pupils that is quick and painless! Costs 39.00 extra but well worth it if you've ever had your eyes dilated. Doctor was very quick professional and polite. I was in and out with contacts in hand in less than an hour. read more

I have utilized reviews from many different websites including yelp, but this is the first I have ever been so impressed to write about my experience. First and foremost the customer service that I have received from Jansen Optical has been wonderful all around. After going to the same optometrist for 10 years I switch to Jansen Optical and very happy with the decision. The staff is all about making their clients happy with their purchases and visits. After explaining that I was not satisfied with my first pair of prescription sunglasses due to headaches they were giving me they told me to come in so they could help. Needless to say they were happy to switch out my glasses to a flatter lens since the originals were curved. It really meant a lot that they took to the time to make me happy with my first pair of RX sunglasses. I appreciate this kind of customer service. If you are looking for a new optometry office I highly recommend Jansen Optical, both Dr. Jansen & Dr. Prevost are great as well as Tracie the Optician/ Office Manager. My husband and I went here to get our eyes checked and new glasses. One of the main reasons was because they excepted both of the insurances we are on. I can't begin to tell you how delightful everyone there was. It starts with the heartfelt answering of the call to place the appointment, the smile when you walk in the door and the genuine smiles as you leave. I called them on a Monday and was able to get two appointments for the following Saturday. The appointments were about 2 hours apart. We arrived a few minutes early to fill in paperwork. About the time I was finished filling mine in, i was called back for the first stage of the appointment. The young woman who did the initial testing explained to me step by step what was being done. When I was done, they were able to go ahead and get my husband's first part done as well. I was called back to see the doctor as he came out. When I went back to see the doctor, she was charming and explained everything to me while reviewing the images that had been taken a few minutes before. It wasn't long and she had the figured out what I think is going to be the perfect prescription for me. While we waited for my husband's turn, we began to look at frames. I had found a pair that I like the shape of, but wasn't sure about the frame itself. A lovely young lady came over and asked if she could help me find anything. I showed her the frames I had picked up (out of several hundred) and explained what I liked about them, but that I wasn't sure about the frames. She smiled and walked over to pick up a set of frames for me to try. I really liked them on, but was determined to make dang sure they would be the pair I wanted to wear for the next couple of years. After looking through EVERY pair of frames they had, my husband and I both agreed that they were the best fit and look for me. It wasn't' long and we had picked out a pair for him as well. My husband I both sat down to get fitted for our frames and lenses. By the time we were done, it was his turn to go see the doctor. By the time he came out of the back office, we had finished ordering my glasses and only had to finish up on the lenses for his. Everything went wonderfully there and we were treated like they actually cared that we were there. We were told that my husbands glasses would take 7-10 business days and they actually came in on the 6th business day. We both love them! Mine will be a bit longer because I order transition lenses. I just can't wait to get them! Parking can be a bit of a pain if you are trying to park right in front of the strip. I suggest you park down a bit closer to Firestone. It isn't like you are having to park at the mall and a few extra feet doesn't hurt any of us. Well worth the walk! :o) We have found our home for eye care! read more

Called last Friday morning to replace my 13 year old's glasses she dropped in town lake. Asked to pull the 6 month old order and see if I could re-order. I was told they would call me back. I called back that afternoon and was told they hadn't had time to do it yet and they would call me back. 7 days later, still no call. School starts in two weeks. I have made other arrangements. I recently went on the City of Austin insurance and my previous eye care was not a listed Provider. I visited several authorized Providers and chose Jansen Optical based on their large selection of frames. My eye appointment seemed to go well and they had much newer exam equipment. Although my prescription had not changed much from my old glasses, I went ahead with an order of new frames and their "highest quality" lenses since I had learned previously that lens quality is especially important for progressive trifocals. Unfortunately I have never been able to wear the glasses because the distortion in the lens is terrible, which tells me that their lab services are less than desirable. I phoned to discuss, but the receptionist said "you just need to wait and adjust to them." It's been 1 1/2 years and I've never been able to wear the glasses, nor have I ever received any follow up from them (phone, email, or text) to see how happy I was with their services or my glasses or to schedule another appointment. read more

The doctor is absolutely nice have nothing to say BUT the staff was horrible. Just bc of them I will never ever came back their again even if I'm 100% satisfied with my doctor. They are unprofessional and angry that I can't even imagine coming back again to this place. Please get some scrubs that fit! I honestly cannot commend Dr. Jansen and her team enough. I generally greatly dislike visiting optometrists' offices (just as many people fear going to the dentist, I fear going to the eye doctor) but my experience at Dr. Jansen's practice was nothing if not pleasant. She and her staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and sincerely take their time to make sure all your questions are answered and all your needs are met.
