This place isn't located in a location you'd think of when seeing what their whole vibe is all about. For as comfy & homelike the feeling is inside it's located in a very commercial boxy building and we almost didn't find it because our maps took us to the backside where you can't see the place at all. The ambiance is welcoming right when you walk through the doors. Clean, warm colors , the aroma of fresh baked goods and friendly service. The French toast is just like grandma would make with fresh bread too. The sausage links were so flavorful and tender with a nice snap of the skin , I could of eaten a whole plate of them. All meat omelet was generous in its portion and tasty. Restrooms were super clean along with the entire establishment. They do a great job of keeping the place tidy. We grabbed a box of sugar cookies to bring to family and they were soft and buttery good. We most certainly will come back when we are in the area next. Highly recommend. read more

I've tried to give this restaurant some grace but they just stand around and DO NOT SERVE YOU. I just was seated once again and sat for 10 minutes while 5-6 women chatted behind the counter and several of them passed my table and no one took my order. This is a chronic issue at the Merced store. Someone needs to Supervise and observe what's going on. My impression is that you just don't care about my business. I don't have all day to wait on your staff to get in the mood to do their jobs. I need to get in there, eat and get back to my business. THIS IS NO WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS, FOLKS! Good food and service is always nice whenever I go. Their food is a little pricey for the portion they give especially with the avocado toast but it is still tasty. I think their pumpkin spice flavoring could be better for the latter but I usually go for the white mocha and it's always great! read more

The food tasted like it was a white person in the back with no seasoning being used. I thought this would be like any other cafe but I was wrong. You can tell when you walk in. Food is above and beyond. We did not have to wait for our food for more than 5 minutes. They were so fast! Server was so attentive and checked up on us constantly. The decorations are so cute and rustic. Simple look inside and not overwhelming with decor like at other places. Forgot to leave an updated review a few months ago. Came in here to order a salad to go, again the food is good but for the price the staff needs to do better. The entrance doesn't really tell you where to make a to go so I stood where the hostess counter is. The waitress (and older woman, ignored me standing there and seated someone else who was standing at the please wait to be seated sign), so I stood over there, and when she asked how many to be seated and I then asked her about placing a to go order and she rudely directed me to the counter where the pies were for to go orders as if I wasted her time standing there. So I went over there, gave them my order, they were nice and helpful at that counter but the original waitress was just so rude about it all. I haven't been back since. read more

I've been to both Jantz locations, the one in Merced and the one in Atwater. I was less than satisfied during both separate occasions. Starting with the Merced location. I went with 2 of my good friends right before I was going to move away. It was supposed to be a nice breakfast with good memories. We didn't even stay. To start, it took forever to be seated, but we were in no rush. I originally wanted the hot toasted turkey sandwich, but when I ordered it, they informed me that they were out of the turkey. So, I decided I wanted a scone, but when I went to order one, they also didn't have any. They informed me that they had muffins, so I ordered the blueberry muffin. Our waitress said she had to go check once again if they had that. They didn't. Their menu is already small. You can't customize anything (which was the issue I experienced at the Atwater location) and even after picking multiple items off the menu, they still didn't even have any of it. So, I decided it wasn't worth staying since they didn't have anything and had horrible service. And when I informed them that we decided not to stay, they all stood around acting confused. Cinnamon French Toast is their star on the menu so we had to try it. It was good, but I don't think it needed the powdered sugar on top. Service was quick. They were short staffed so weren't serving outside, so got food to go and ate outside anyway. Well decorated inside with lots of unique items available. More tables than you think when you first enter. About 20 tables that roll around the corner. Join the rewards club and get a free pie just for joining. I love jantz brunch food so I thought I'd stop by and get some desserts to go. One of the desserts I got was a chocolate cupcake with Strawberry frosting. It was literally the worst cupcake I've had in my life and I had to spit it out. The cake part tasted like straight oil. It was very strange and not edible. Disappointed. Been wanting to check out the Merced location for a while. Been to the Atwater Jantz several times. The food and service were great. Everyone seemed friendly. Have unfortunately met less than friendly workers in the Atwater bakery section. Never had a problem in their restaurant section. But this review is for Merced. One thing in particular that I like in both locations is the server coming over often to check if I need anything. Also my server here asked if I was in the rewards program. At the other location, except for the first time I was there, I'm always having to bring it up. The last lady I dealt with at the Atwater bakery section seemed to have no idea what I was talking about. The Merced staff seems more up to speed on things. Bought two full pies after my lunch. I love their pies. This location of course has all the bakery items available that the Atwater location has. Parking lots are large and there's more outdoor seating here than Atwater. Staff here seems friendlier than Atwater. Might start coming to this one instead. read more

First and foremost, my wife and I love Jantz, and the food has always been absolutely delicious. However, earlier this week at lunch time we had an unusual experience. We were seated on the patio by the hostess, and then waited over 20 minutes before the waitress noticed that we were on the patio to take our lunch order. We also noticed that other patrons were being seated and that their orders were being taken before ours, which we mentioned to the waitress once she finally did arrive to take our order. We were nearly tempted to call in our lunch order to have it "to go," as we waited for the waitress, though waited patiently until she was able to take our order in person. Fast forward to the meal. The food was as expected, quite delicious. We even used one of the mailers today to treat ourselves to one of your amazing smoothies. We marked this experience up to a one off, as normally the staff are prompt, so we chalked this up to perhaps a lack of communication from the hostess after we were seated, to her not letting the waitress know that we were on the patio. We are hopeful for a better experience on our next visit. Thank you for the opportunity for us to discuss our concern.
