The only compliant I have ever had is the service which can be extremely slow. Yesterday a friend and I went for lunch and had the great surprise of having Sal for our waiter. He gave the best service I have ever had at either location!!!! We wanted or waited for nothing!!! We even got back to work on time which almost never happens when we try to have lunch there. Every sandwich I've had here has been delicious however today I ordered the tuna melt which was also delicious with a side of macaroni salad. I must say it was not very good at all it's very bland doesn't have anything in it but some cucumber which I've never heard of putting cucumbers in macaroni salad.I think it needs some onions or something to make it just a little more flavorful just a little bit of constructive criticism your deserts are delicious and like I said all the sandwiches are superb read more

My parents, Glenn and Merly, are regulars here for years (including the Atwater location). Whenever I come to visit my folks we always come to Jantz, and we are never disappointed as the food always has quality ingredients. The service is very friendly as well, and during busy times it's normal to have a little wait for good food. The potato salad is top notch, chili on Fridays is delicious, the sandwiches cold (chicken salad) and hot (tuna melt) satisfy more than enough, the biscuits and gravy for breakfast hits home, and breakfast burrito leaves you very full. The baked goods are simply amazing from the sweet potato muffins to the cookies and pies. I also love, love, love the butterhorns. We love the Merced Jantz. Our family was just here from Missouri and we took them out for breakfast twice here. The first time they tried the biscuits and gravy and loved it. I have only been to Jantz a couple of times but I would not reccomend it for the service, I was on my way to an appointment which I had at 5 and went to Jantz at 4 and thought I would get a quick bite. I was wrong for thinking it would be quick. I had a very simple order which was a veggie sandwich and I asked if they could make it grilled , they said yes and I waited for my sandwich. Not only did it take and hour to make , but the cafe was almost empty and when my sandwich came out I didn't have time to check on it because I was running late for my appointment and when I saw my sandwich it wasn't even grilled. I am so happy JANTZ moved to Merced. I have had lunch there twice and I am so ready to go back. I love this place. I had the vegetarian sandwich (once with gluten free bread, yummy!) and iced raspberry tea. The food was excellent and the service was even better. Only go here for PIE days ( Wednesday's) that's the highlight of my visit each time we come here. I had their chicken salad sandwich which lacked the basic salt and pepper. Just because you're in a professional office complex, doesn't mean the food is good. I had the french dip (needs more meat). The au jus was so watered down, it ruined the taste of what meat came with sandwich. The clam chowder was tasteless as well. Supposed to be a bakery, had a carrot cupcake that tasted like it came out of a package. Hostess went through the motions, seemed overwhelmed by lunch service. The main reason I'm giving this place 5 stars is because their pies are AMAZING! I love the chocolate peanut butter creme pie, but you really can't go wrong with either of them. The food is good, a little pricey, but definitely worth the trip. TERRIBLE SERVICE I have to give this place a low score, because Ive never successfully had a meal there. First trip to Jantz, I stood at the front for at least 10 min and waited for someone to help me or even acknowledge my existence, and it never happened, so I walked out. They don't care about customers and I always have a long waiting time, not sure why. This is the worst experience I have ever had with service in a restaurant. I went there with a friend, the staff didn't come for order. We reminded them once. We waited for a long time, they still didn't get to order. Then we went to cashier to order in front, they said no, we have to sit and wait. So we left for Starbucks. I've been to both Jantz restaurants in Atwater and Merced. Both are excellent. Food is fresh and delicious great coffee, ( has regular and flavor coffee, your choice) and you can even take a cup of coffee to go, (no extra charge). Service is friendly and restaurant and restrooms are very clean. Bake goods are baked fresh and I ordered breakfast and the scrambled eggs were fluffy and the sausage looked like it came from a meat company and not the skinny little things that you get from most restaurants. My husband order the ham and got a decent thick slice of ham and a big fluffy omelette. Will come back and try their lunch next time. It appears to be run by German Baptist (Dunker) people. Love the atmosphere, especially in Merced, great lighting and homey feel !! Must try !! read more

I was recommended this restaurant by a friend that is a local. Quite simply the food was delicious and don't even get me started on the pie!! I had one of their grilled chicken wraps with a side of fresh fruit. Finished off my meal with a slice of banana cream pie and a blended coffee drink.
