    Ica roll
    Nie N.

First time visit, I tried this Ica Roll and realized they used imitation crab instead of King Crab as the description. I did bring this to our waitress attention and she first argued with me that it's supposed to be imitation crab not the real crab. I explained to her the reason why I ordered this dish in the first place was because I wanted to eat King Crab not imitation crab. The description was misleading and it should be fixed. Then, she apologized and walked away from us. Besides, they automatically added 18% gratuity to my bill for 2 guests. Overall disappointed.

    Lunch take out

Recently got some lunch take out from Japu as it is walking distance from work. I got the chicken yakisoba noodles which was ready in under 10 minutes. Decent sized portion. The thin yellow noodles with red and green bell peppers, pieces of chicken thigh, in a salty soy yaki sauce. It tasted good, a bit heavy on the salt but was fresh and satifiying.

Sapporo roll pictured was disappointing even though server mentioned it was a very popular and most delicious roll. I wouldn't visit again.

    Chicken Causa

My best friend and I visited last night at 7:30 and had a great time. There is designated Japú parking in front of the building so we didn't have to search for a spot. Our server was sweet and spoke both English and Spanish. There weren't many people but it was a Wednesday so I wasn't surprised. My friend ordered the maracuya sour cocktail and ceviche, I had the lomo saltado and the strawberry/ginger lemon juice, and we shared the chicken causa. We loved everything!! Both drinks were so delicious - the sour was strong and sweet, and the lemon juice was refreshing (pricey but worth it). I didn't try the ceviche (my friend raved) but I loved the lomo saltado. Big portions so I had leftovers, the fries were perfectly crisp and salty, the rice was well-seasoned, and the steak was awesome! Juicy and the sauce was yummy. The chicken causa was different than something I'd normally try but I was pleasantly surprised by how well the flavors went together. Definitely branch out with your choices here, you will not be disappointed!

Found some green strings in my fries.

Thought this would be a good fusion place to try out. Food was pretty good, if it wasn't for the service I would give it a four star. Found some extra string or fiber material in my fries (clearly it was some cleaning cloth from their kitchen) and the waitress said it's seasoning. I know what's seasoning and what doesn't belong in my food especially I found it in the kids meal. If they apologize rather then coming back with some lame excuse I would definitely go back. However rather then admitting their fault but with some lame excuse then no thank you I'll take my business some where else. I ordered the meal for my kids and I hope they would not make this mistake for another kids meal. There is limited choice for sushi and all you will find is maybe 5-6 special sushi rolls. So don't expect a full sushi bar.

EBY Maduro Tempura- sooooo yummmmyyyy, order this!

Japu is a legit go to place to get Peruvian food. I have really not had Peruvian food like this outside of peru, (maybe some places in Queens NY). The place is very casual, but still with nice enough ambiance that you could go there on a date. Prices are very good and portions are out of this world. Food and drinks are very tasty and everything tasted natural, no weird mixers or fake seasonings. We had the passion fruit pisco, virgen piña colada and pineapple ginger mint juice, everything was yummy and tasted natural. I would prefer to have the pisco drink in a glass on the rocks instead, it was STRONG. For food we had a fish ceviche, maduro tempura, chaufa with chicken, and sushi. The Sushi i could pass on, it wasn't awesome, but the rest of it all was magnificent. I can't wait to be back to try more things!

It was about a 10 minute wait for a table to clear, we got lucky. It was our first time having Peruvian food so we got a bit of everything. Mar y Tierra which is basically the lomo salteado served with pasta in a cheesy sauce instead of fries and rice and topped with shrimp, super tasty, well seasoned and tender meat. The trio Marino; fried fish was fresh and super tasty, especially topped with the citrusy red thin sliced onions; ceviche was light, refreshing, the corn gave it nice crunch and pop; arroz chaufa de mariscos had a good amount of shrimp, squid, and topped with a scallop, very tasty. We also tried the fried cuy , there's the option to order a quarter, half or full cuy. I'm glad I tried it, it tasted like a cross between chicken and pork. Lastly, we had the weekend special, seco de cordero, which is stewed lamb shank. It was falling of the bone and tasty, served with a hearty portion on white rice and white beans. I really appreciate that they have an "American" section on the menu for picky kids like mine who like to have chicken and fries no matter where they go. 4 out of 5 stars because although the servers were very friendly, service was lacking. We didn't get napkins or utensils until we asked and after getting the food. Food is made to order which is great but it all comes out at different times, it was fine for us because we were eating as a family, everyone trying each dish but it would not have worked well for a group each wanting their own meal. Shoutout to the owner who is cooking in the kitchen and also came out to check on all the tables. Overall it was a great meal and experience, you can feel the love and pride they have for their food. I would absolutely recommend and come back!

The menu is quite similar but there are definitely some items that are unique to La Royal. My husband and I both got a drink, I had the maracuya sour and he got a pisco sour which we both enjoyed. The pastel de choclo was a good appetizer before we got our lomo saltado and arroz con pato. The lomo saltado was nice, though we weren't sure if it was supposed to be so soup-y! We didn't mind since we liked the soup though it did get a bit salty after a while. For the arroz con pato - the duck itself was fine. I appreciated that it wasn't dry but it wasn't my favorite. I LOVED the rice paired with the salsa - my personal favorite of the night.

I visited around the holidays and was pleasantly surprised by the live music, which really elevated the whole experience. Parking on the street was a bit of a challenge--I had to loop around a few times--but honestly, it was worth it for the meal and atmosphere. Definitely a spot I'd come back to!

This place is popping! Even though it was later in the evening, the restaurant was still really full. However we didn't have to wait too long to get seated. I loved the decor in here, such neat details and even a column with a dragon on it! So cool. It's a dark restaurant so it was hard to read the menu, but otherwise, it's a very cool vibe here and feels very lounge-y. Our server was awesome, he was friendly and explained the restaurant style to us - it's like tapas, you order a few items to share and recommended 2 - 3 items per person would be sufficient. It was only 2 of us and we shared 3 items total, and that was more than enough. We apparently arrived so late that our server informed us that we only had a short time before the kitchen was closing for the night. But he said that he would return before the kitchen closed in case we wanted to order additional menu items. We were intrigued by the Japanese/Peruvian fusion menu and tried a few things: Kuromitsu Brussel Sprouts Spicy Salmon Fritas Bo Bo Chicken I was most excited about the Bo Bo Chicken a it had a sichuan chili oil and I love spicy, but it was not spicy at all (to me). But the flavor was really good. My favorite was the Brussels sprouts. I loved the char on them and the ginger black honey on it was so good. I don't eat salmon, but my friend said the Salmon Fritas was great and really enjoyed them. I would say this was the best meal we had on our trip!
