There's plenty of parking and the restaurant is part of a small plaza. We went during lunch time on a Thursday and it wasn't busy yet. The seared tuna and squid were delicious, cold appetizers. The shrimp shumai were bigger than usual shumai sizes but we do not think it was worth $8 for 4 pieces. I forgot what the long sushi was called but it's topped with oranges and had white fish inside. That roll wasn't that good and I thought the oranges ontop was a weird additions. But the volcano roll was the STAR. It looked and tasted soo good definitely highlight of lunch. We had a reservation for dinner at this restaurant. When making a reservation there is no option to pick hibachi. We arrived 15 minutes early with two hungry little boys and the owner was telling me that I made a reservation for the main floor and not the hibachi. She clearly knew that there is no option when making a reservation and tried to squeeze us in, but unfortunately they were packed. The food was good but I had to wait 20 minutes for just a regular table when I made the reservation ahead of time and I showed up 15 minutes early. This review is very specifically for Ramen. I haven't had sushi or anything else here but the Ramen is so bad that I couldn't not write a review about it. This Ramen has no taste. It's essentially Miso soup with noodles in it. The only other ingredients were the driest pork I've ever had, what seemed to be yesterday's lettuce and half a HARD boiled egg. If I could give zero stars I would, the service was great the chef was amazing my issue with this hibachi is we came here for my daughters birthday and the waitress literally badgered us for a $60 tip on top of the $20 tip that she got in cash so she left with $80 in tips for no reason, I had smaller children so we didn't argue but we will never ever go to this place for hibachi ever again and I would never recommend anyone to go there if they ask about it!! The crab Rangoon was utterly disgusting, it was takeout and they forgot to give me ANY soy sauce, no silverware and honestly the steak and chicken combo was below average. We recently moved across town and Thyme is located across the street. We decided to get takeout to give it a try - sushi, Chicken Pad Thai, Vegetable Tempura and a variety of other appetizers. We haven't dined in the restaurant, though when I've gone to pick up my dinner there I've noticed the inside of the restaurant is clean and looks like it has some great seating options. My sushi is always fresh and tastes great. I've had their Unari, Maguro, and California Rolls. The Pad Thai has a great flavor to it and is light and delicious. We've also enjoyed the tempura, crab rangoon and dumplings. Each appetizer is always cooked well and you receive a generous portion. We loved everything we've ordered so far. This is a typical suburban Japanese restaurant with your typical fusion-Japanese-American menu - sushi, hibachi, bentos and some noodles. They actually have a few traditional style appetizers(ie. takosu, sunomono) which I was surprised about! I got a pick-up order for the first time here today: 1x Lunch Makisushi Roll set (tuna roll, yellow tail roll, spicy tuna roll) 1x Pizzasimi Let's talk about the Pizzasimi first! 3 stars on the review comes mainly for the Pizzasimi. I wasn't expecting much but it was surprisingly good! Scallion pancake topped with tuna, salmon, white fish, avo, crab meat, lobster. I'm not sure that the crab + lobster were real...? They may have been imitation versions but there's actually hardly any (which I was happy about), it's really mostly covered with the sashimi and avocado. There was this "special sauce" drizzled on top and all together tasted pretty good. If I were to go there again I would order this. Two cons though. the first being that the "pizza" didn't come as a whole round piece. I appreciate them slicing it into 1/6 like a regular pizza, but I'd also like it to be delivered to me as 1 round pizza, like a regular pizza, instead of getting it split in 2 different boxes. That's just aesthetic though and it's not too big of a deal. My second point actually would affect whether I order again - the scallion pancake was cold. Yes, the raw fish could go bad if it sat on a hot scallion pancake then got boxed up - but I'm wondering if that's the same way it's served in the restaurant? I would hope that in a dine-in scenario the pancake will be hot and the sashimi cold. For take out, it would actually be cool if they packed it as a "make your own Pizzashimi" and just put the ingredients in separate boxes (like how Pho gets packed up), so the customer can heat the pancake. Lunch maki sushi set was ...well nothing to write home about. Rolls of tuna/spicy tuna and yellow tail, each cut up in to 6 pieces. Just FYI, the size of the roll is not like the "special rolls" like the Spider Roll or the Rainbow Roll, in case you expected them to be bigger. You can see in the image that it's a normal skinny roll. As for the quality, typical suburban level sushi place quality. I can't say the fish was fresh. There's a pretty clear difference between super fresh fish and something that's still safe and edible, and I would say it was the latter. Sushi gourmands might be rolling their eyes saying were you expecting NYC omakase level? No, of course not. But, although only a handful of times, I have had very fresh fish in the suburbian restaurants before and this place doesn't have that quality. BUT what they lacked in freshness was made up for in their eco + smart packaging!! I really appreciated their soy sauce packaging. Usually take-out sushi comes with soy sauce in a non-recyclable packet, and you have to use the cover of the sushi tray as a giant soy sauce tray - but not here! They put them in small containers so you actually get a small dipping cup to mix with wasabi, AND it's recyclable! Last comment on service - I decided to try this place out because of the many good reviews and comments on great service but that's not really what I got. Maybe the wait staff, sushi chef, and the hibachi chefs are friendly, so maybe I need to dine in sometime to really appreciate their service? At least from my interaction with the 2 ladies at the front counter, that's not what I got. Being a hostess could be boring, could be hard - especially now it's a stressful time for everyone. But...I got not a single smile in my ~5min interaction. I've worked at a restaurant before and I've hosted and I've waited - not every day is a great day, but being in the service industry I took pride in welcoming customers with a smile. Both of them just kind of looked at me blankly when I needed my order, and their expression didn't change at all throughout the entire transaction. Maybe they haven't been on the job for long, maybe they were nervous, I'm not sure. Then another girl comes in after me to dine-in, and she's confused because there's no "Welcome, what can we do for you?" or anything, so with their blank eyes on her she blurts "ummm are you open for dining in?" and one of them says "yes" and takes her to a table. I'm not sure that's how I'd like to be greeted at a restaurant. Again, I don't know all of their staff so maybe everyone else is very friendly and makes for a nice place to dine. Personally, I don't think I'll be going back but like others have mentioned, it is a clean and spacious place, and there really aren't any other Japanese restaurants near by so it's a good option if you're really craving something. read more

I'm perplexed as to why a Japanese restaurant is called Thyme. As far as I know thyme isn't used in Japanese cuisine, but I digress. This is a great place to get sushi. I really like the atmosphere as it feels intimate even when it's busy. There's plenty of seating options other than the hibachi area, which include a sushi bar, an alcohol bar, and your standard restaurant tables. I like to sit in front of the sushi bar and watch the chefs prepare my food. The quality of the sushi is well worth the price. The ingredients used in the rolls are fresh and flavorful. I ordered the Sunshine roll and a side of salmon sashimi during my last visit. The Sunshine roll was a delicious blend of flavors and textures. The sweetness of the fresh orange was a nice compliment to the spice from the jalapeno inside the roll along with white tuna. The salmon sashimi was superb. So soft and buttery I could cut through the fish with chopsticks with little effort. Service was sufficient although the restaurant does seem a bit understaffed. There was no one at the front when I entered the restaurant, nor as there anyone when I left. I hate listening to people talk about nonsene and I prefer peace. interior: bright, modern, small bar in the middle and they have two huge hibachi tables in the back closer to the restrooms. I ordered the filet mignon teriyaki sliced thin, with onions and served really hot on a skillet. presentation was superb and the meat was succulent and went great with white rice that also came with the entree. shrimp mango: grilled shrimp on a skewer, I liked this alot it had that char on it which packed the flavor nicely and seasoned well with mango sauce. lobster Rangoon: this was ok not as crunchy as i thought it would be also didn't really taste much lobster either but oh well, I still ate them all service was good, no long wait for food or drinks. read more

I have very mixed feelings about this place. I came in with some coworkers pretty late, about one hour before closing. We were all really tired after a super long day at work. We sat down at one of the teppan tables (it says hibachi on the store and menu but it's really teppan) in the back room. We order drinks and our food and wait for the show to start. The waitresses weren't very friendly. They didn't smile at all and seemed very cold. The chef we had was interesting because threw pieces of raw zucchini into the air for us to catch in our mouths. He then had us open our mouth and squirted cooking wine into our mouths from the bottle. I'm still trying to decide if that was awesome or weird. By the time we left, it was still a few minutes before closing but all the lights were off in the front room and the chairs were put away. Overall, I would probably not recommend this place. Oh yeah, about the food, it was ok. I ordered the combo meal which had lobster, steak, shrimp, and scallops. The lobster and shrimp were a bit over cooked and chewy. The steak and scallops were pretty good. The veggies tasted odd I think because there was so much beat sprout in it. And the salad looked like it was sloppily put together. read more

Very disappointed with my experience today. Often order from here but today I received a lunch order with what seems to be less than half a breast of chicken, meal mostly consisted of rice. I called to avoid this but they kept insisting it's a lunch portion and only $13 and the chef said so. Tried to explain I've ordered many times before and never had so little in a meal. $13 is outrageous for ingredients that cost less than $3. They would not offer any remedy to the situation. Apparently, hibachi is hella popular here. *GREAT FOR BIG GROUPS, esp birthday parties and such* Note: if you have a friend who is gluten free/ vegetarian, you might need to think twice. The food is cooking on the same grill so if you have a gluten free friend, everyone's food cannot be cooked in soy sauce. If your friend is vegetarian, everyone needs to eat vegetables so that meat does not touch the cooking surface. Just sayin. We were seated at a cooking station, which we shared with a few others. They have ok cocktails here. The chefs put on a fantastic show, throwing knives in the air, throwing egg shells into their hats. I wonder how they practice these skills! The chef also enjoyed spraying sake into people's mouths. You can have seafood, chicken beef etc. And either fried rice or fried noodles. The portion sizes are huge, so come hungry. The food didn't taste that "Japanese", it was more like fake Chinese/ Japanese where they put a ton of butter in your noodles or some sweet sweet teriyaki sauce in your meat... Went for the first time this past weekend. It was good. The sushi is very overpriced in comparison to other places in the area. Most single rolls are close to 20/each. I had the udon ramen which was ok. The tempura shrimp/veggies came out much later than everybody else's meals. They also don't really go with the soup. However they were good! It was crappyyy! It was just plain old crap for 10.95. Meso soup I preferred instead of salad and it wasnt that tasty. I could have may be had a little vinegar water! So the bento box had four compartments and one had 3 dumplings, plain white rice, 5 pieces of sushi and deep fried shrimp and potato may be! Out of these four things the deep friend stuff and rice was crap! What am I supposed to have plain old white rice with? Soy sauce? really? the dumplings were ok and sushi was ok too. I really like this place. Whenever I visit my parents we always find ourselves here. It's close to the house and never disappoints. The place is huge so we've never had a wait. Food wise we always get the vegetarian soba noddles and a few rolls. I've never ordered a bad roll here so can't go wrong. The noodle dishes comes with miso soup and salad. Portions are perfect for sharing. They have a lunch special but I've never actually been there for lunch. Just dinner. Staff are all super friendly. They also have a bar if you're looking for that scene. I believe you can order food at the bar too. It's one of the better sushi places in the area.
