I think this Salon has a good vibe and decent hair artist. They have coffee, tea, and wine. I would have enjoyed a little more wine during my three hour hair service but none was offered. I think the prices are the same as everywhere else you go if you choose a well reputable established hair salon. The wash tubs were the most comfortable I have ever experienced. So much of the hair salon experience is within the single hair stylist you are paired with and mine was friendly and adequate but just did not blow my socks off. She did not do anything wrong I just kind of feel meh and that it was a standard service for the money I invested. The balayage could have been done with a little more dimension and finer strands and closer to the scalp. Not much was done for the cut or style. It is always awkward when you really like a salon but perhaps want a different stylist. I will go back again as I do think the Salon is good but I will have to let some time pass and make sure I get a different hair artist. read more

Visiting Minnesota again from a very warm Orange County California when I noticed my rather bland auburn locks were dragging me down with the unseasonable April snow. Feeling like I looked liked the slush tossed off by a snow plow, I was in great need of a pick me up. I rushed into Japa Salon and booked the earliest availability with the owner Stephanie. First I was greeted by Ellen. She took my coat and then asked if I would like something to drink. A glass of red wine? Why of course. I then sat down with Stephanie. "What are we doing today?" asked Steph. "I want bright! Deep copper with bright orange at the bottom." I stated. "Well, how about we brighten up your base and do balayage on your ends incorporating your already auburn locks?" she suggested. i declared,"Sold!". Away she went... Time seemed to fly. After sitting under a dryer she brought me back into their relaxing shampoo room. Which is shut off from the rest of the salon by dark curtains, soft lighting and soothing music. She gave me a cozy blanket as I was scrubbed with decadent Kerastase products and my neck massaged. I got the best shampoo ever! No joke. A nice light cut to add some pizaz to my new shade and... voila! My mane had been transformed into a cascade of sunset colored hair. Bright and beautiful. I left the salon feeling as though my hair would not only brighten my mood, but maybe impart some sunshine on those around me. read more

My hair was an absolute disaster before I came into the salon. As I came into the salon, I was greeted by the owner and she offered coffee, tea, wine, or water. My stylist (Jordan) was so kind and reassured me that everything would turn out and it absolutely did. The owner of the salon helped come up with a plan for my hair and I have never been more happy with how my hair has turned out. Everyone there is so polite and friendly. This is my go-to place. I've been a salon hopper for years and finally found my home 6 years ago. The team is amazing and well trained. I have seen many stylists here and l have had amazing service every time. They pride themselves on accommodating your needs - whether it's being social or letting you get some work done while you're processing. They focus on running on time and planning their books accordingly - truly appreciate that it's run like a professional business. Lastly, I've always walked out with a fresh look - color, cut, blowout - the stylists work together with each other and their guest to ensure the end result is excellent. Rachel is the manager of this salon and is fabulous! She corrected a color job gone wrong the preivous day at the salon by a different stylist. Rachel knew exactly what to do and did it perfectly. No wonder she is the manager. The salon is huge on customer service and tending to your every need. I will make the 3 plus hour drive to have Rachel do my hair from now on. I wish I had a before and after picture to post, she would win an award! I moved to WI from CA 6 months ago, and was going to fly back to Santa Barbara to get my hair done. I'm glad to say that I will not need to fly there for my hair, just for the beach!!! read more

I have only been in here three times total, but love it. The first 2 times I went in was for a consult. They were super friendly just discussing ideas I had for my hair. Plus they offer, hot tea, wine, etc and it's a very "posh" setting. elegant and classy. I ended up getting tape- in hair extensions from Rachel. I have never had extensions and was a bit nervous as my hair is fine/ fragile, but she was very informative and knowledgeable about the best way to go with my hair. I trust her! I started with just 5 pieces to get used to it and so far I love them! You'd think they would un-stick or that you can't wash your hair, but I can do everything I normally would and can't believe I waited this long to try them! It's like a miracle. I think it all comes down to the professional stylist who puts them in and Rachel seriously knows what she's doing. Now I have the longer fuller looking hair I have been trying to achieve for over 20 years and it literally took her under and hour and I didn't even feel like they were in, that's how light they are and how perfectly she applied them. Completely invisible and completely beautiful. Love this place :) read more
